London’s New Restaurant Openings

"Bern’s And The Beans’ menu reads like a pick ‘n’ mix of things we crave when we’re hungover—crispy buttermilk fried chicken thighs, salt beef bagels, and beef chilli nachos. There’ll also be coffee during the day at this Walthamstow spot, and pints and cocktails later on." - sinead cranna, rianne shlebak

The most amazing staff, food and booze, Mikey Juinior is an incredible host, the pub is in a great location and the vibe is incredible. Will be coming back for the roast. If you’re in the area I recommend a long visit and a long drink.

This is a wonderful place! We had breakfast and they opened the kitchen early for us. We had the Berns English Breakfast. It was a culinary experience masterpiece. You receive a breadboard with delicious fresh sourdough and beans with fresh butter. On the plate is a large, well presented breakfast. The streaky bacon perfectly cooked and not over salted pairs perfectly with a sweet tomato. The black pudding isn’t as intense as shop bought with more layers of flavour. The sausage was of brilliant flavour with a hint of chorizo. Topped with pea shoots. Overall fantastic, will come again. This may be one of the best meals we have ever eaten and well worth the price! (Maybe even under priced!)

Had the full English. FYI Swapped my beans for extra mushroom. Sourdough toast came with soft salted butter and a drizzle of olive oil.sausages were immaculate. Bacon was crispy salty and complemented the meal, eggs were fluffy and buttery, mushrooms were meaty, with a grilled char, perfect. They ran out of brown sauce and were thoughtful enough to run next door and get me some 🤣 so can't complain. Owners are from the east end also! So as walthamstow welcomes global commercial companies lets also support local!

We had these guys round to cater for my wife's birthday party. I cannot recommend them highly enough. The food was simply excellent and everyone commented on it, saying it was the best food they'd ever had at a house party. The team who arrived were prompt, very professional, and a pleasure to have around.

What can I say!!! I took the misses there for a quick bite and the food was amazing, the atmosphere was great and the staff couldn’t have made me feel more at home. The whole set up is pucker. Clean tidy and homely environment. Well done to the owners. We need to see more cafes like this set up.

The food is fine, the fries in particular are good. But the recipes are pretty safe. Gone are the indulgence and creativity of the toastie recipes of the previous tenants. I haven’t tried the brunch, which looked promising. However… Service takes a long time. The staff seems a little overwhelmed, to be fair it’s very hot inside and space is limited. However there is a lack of attention to detail. They ask for your name when you order but then mispronounce it. They ask for your table but then the waitress asks for your name at every table until she finds you. The tables are not cleaned between every customer. The cutlery in the (grotty looking) tins is missing or not washed well. They still charge £9.50 plus service (the card machine suggests to pay up to 30% for service BEFORE you have been served) for a jacket potato. You’d sure hope they accept AMEX, but no! Frankly annoying at that price point.

I arrived and ordered my food and drink at the counter - I sat outside and the waitress brought my drink first. I had my dog with me and I didn’t want to leave her so I asked her for sugar - she simply said it was inside I asked if she wouldn’t mind bringing me one - she didn’t really respond and it wasn’t brought. I would normally be happy to get my own however I was in a dilemma as I didn’t want to leave the dog as she was then settled or my drink as we were outside. I would have totally understood if the cafe was full - I was the only customer! - I am sure it wouldn’t have hurt to be kind in the moment and serve the sugar not much to ask I don’t think ! The coffee was cold and the jacket potato only adequate- will not be visiting again !

I had such a lovely experience at Berns and The Beans in Walthamstow. The food was excellent — fresh, full of flavour, and beautifully presented. The staff were warm, friendly, and attentive, striking the perfect balance between being welcoming and efficient. Service was prompt without ever feeling rushed, which made the visit all the more enjoyable. The café itself is spotless and well looked after, with a relaxed, inviting atmosphere that makes it a great spot for anything from a quick coffee to a leisurely meal. It’s clear that a lot of care goes into both the food and the overall experience. All of this and the coffee is served with a smile Highly recommend if you’re in the area — I’ll definitely be coming back!
