The Colombian Chefs Revitalizing the Country's Food Scene | Condé Nast Traveler

"In Medellín’s Comuna 13, this restaurant and women’s collective—whose name translates roughly as Brave Women—offers plates of grilled tilapia and seafood rice served on banana leaves in a lively setting where a man in a sequinned suit might be crooning Mexican ballads. Led by Paola Andrea Rivas, who appears in an orange kaftan delivering dishes, the project is explicitly framed around the idea that its women “cook for dignity,” transforming what was once one of Medellín’s most dangerous, unplanned hillside slums into a destination where people now come to eat Pacific-style food amid street murals sponsored by Amazon." - Stephanie Rafanelli

In the middle of Comuna 13, crossing over a somewhat scary stair/bridge, you'll find this place. An open kitchen show how clean they keep the place albeit the ultra small lavatory/sink. You'll be welcomed with 'empanadas de papa y guacamole'. Their menu is solid and the flavors are there. Uniformed staff and excellent service makes this place really good. The cat was there and sat next to my companion the entire meal which is not great but not a huge deal. I'd go back!

I gotta say the vibes of this restaurant totally complements Comuna 13 and Colombia 🇨🇴. The staff friendly, food great and speed of service on point! The views of Comuna 13 unforgettable. Glad we had a person who could speak Spanish because non of us could but even with that staff really made us feel at home. Being from New York, we are use to tipping and gave our waitress a good tip she ran out to thank me and was about to cry. Totally recovered and will be back for sure!

This place is run by the strong women of C13 and give back to the community. Great local food, even better view!

A nice little restaurant in the middle of comuna 13. It’s a little bit off the Main Street which makes it a bit less noisy than other places around. The views are amazing. We only came to have a drink and some empanadas but got a complimentary fruit punch along with it. Lovely and very attentive staff.

We got the best reception at Berracas. The coconut rice was very rich, the robalo was cooked to perfection and their rice with seafood tasted amazing. Some of the best food we had in Colombia. And the staff was very friendly and attentive. I could not recommend more.
