Ah, Bert's...what can I say that will do this little eccentric, eclectic, down-to-earth, friendly, cool little jack of all trades beach shop justice? To be honest, I will give you some highlights, but you really have to experience Bert's yourself to soak in all its glory!
We wondered into Bert's after a night at the nearby Taco Boy, as we needed some more booze and apparently cookies for the house. What we left with was the needed beer and cookies, along with a koozie, some cheese, a scoop of ice cream, sunscreen, a hamburger and a variety of chips. We paid the premium for all these things and we would happily do it again!
Bert's isn't your average little market/store, I meant they do carry all the essentials one would need on a beach trip, but they also have a few things that make them different such as a cook to order spot called the Wooden Spoon right beside the register where you can get a variety of things from sandwiches to wraps to burritos, as well as a wide selection of artisan cheeses along with an olive bar, and you can get freshly scooped ice cream and desserts! This place has it all, even individually sold Solo cups.
Overall, Bert's was a cool spot, one that has a real Folly vibe to it! While there are no grocery stores on the island, Bert's is a stand out for what you need unless you really want to trek it over the bridge to Harris Teeter. Again, be prepared to pay a little more for the convenience of Bert's, but don't get them confused as a convenience store...because that they are not!
