First time here. We tried both types of the chicken sandwiches offered, with a mix of the French fries and tater tots, the wings combo with the mac and cheese, and the chicken Pierre strips combo with the mashed potatoes and gravy. The food was very good, made fresh to order, and the sandwiches were very large in size, and the portions of everything else were of good size and plenty to share. The only thing I wasn't a big fan of was the coleslaw, and I wish I could have tried the other sauces, but they charge extra for each one and it is a bit on the pricey side but worth the trip. Would recommend. Parking is hard to find.

Been wanting to try this place for a HOT minute and it was worth the wait. Chicken sandwiches are so big they come in a cake box! 🤯 Berwyn Hot sandwich has amazing seasoning on it but surprisingly no heat. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Oak Park Cool sandwich was a great classic chicken sandwich. Having a mix of tots & fries was dope too. Plus, that punk sauce was fire! My friend said the fish & chips were just as good as when he had it back in Scotland and London. 😱 Definitely gotta go back but gotta find the right time since it took like 40 minutes to get our food. I like that it had a little parking lot, but the place is small with some window seats so I might not be able to bring my kid.

Best chicken sandwich I’ve ever had. Homemade lemonade is fire. Does take awhile to make chicken, so maybe order ahead. Sandwich was only available at lunch. Took us about 20 min from when we ordered. Staff are polite. Highly recommend the tots. The seasoning they put in the fries is something special. Some parking in the back & nearby. Inside is a counter stand set up with about 10 spots. No bathroom. Clean inside. Somewhat accessible.

I tried this place after seeing it on TikTok a couple of times. I was tired of eating at the usual local spots that I knew, so I made the 30 minute drive to try them out after all of the great reviews. The gentleman who took my order on the phone was polite, helpful, even said having my food ready when I got there would be no problem. He said 15 minutes, I had read the wait is usually a lot longer. And with it being lunchtime I expected as such. Window seating only, and they were all open. Parking was good for this day’s lunchtime. Food was ready when I got there. The POS asked for a tip even though all they did was hand it through a window. But being that they did have my food ready when I got there I tipped. I did not find anything that I liked to drink there. But they had some interesting choices. I ordered the Berwyn Hot Sandwich with the Punk sauce on the side, fries and tots, two Italian Beef Egg rolls, they are what I would call normal size, and a small mashed potatoes. In the bag was just the food, no napkins, no utensils, no ketchup. I opened the box, and as mentioned in another review, the sandwich is greasy. The bottom bun was soaked and kept leaking on my fingers as I ate the sandwich. I put layers of paper towels, my own, as none were included, under the box so the grease did not leak onto my pants or my truck console. It is an orange grease so you are warned! I tried the egg rolls first, so so, I thought they lacked any real taste. Good crunch though. I did eat both of them. Fortunately I had plasticware in my truck and was able to try the mashed potatoes. Again, IMO, no flavor at all. Maybe if they had included salt and pepper packets I could have saved them. There was a bite or two of coleslaw in the box, it was tasteless as well IMO. The sandwich patty is big, had a good flavor, slightly sweet, although that may have been the bun, and a good crunch. I did run into a part of it that was a thin layer of tough, stringy, almost fibrous pieces that I could not bite through. I ran into that about a two thirds of the way of the sandwich in a couple of places and just stopped eating. I tried to show that in the pictures. The highlights were the tots and fries. They were both good! The Punk sauce is very good as well. If I had known I had to provide my own plasticware, napkins, and ketchup from where I bought my drink, I would not have tipped.

Google
I have been seeing this restaurant all over TikTok and had to stop in and try it. I went in and got the Berwyn chicken sandwich with tater tots and a large passion fruit lemonade. I was surprised by how much food I had I was able to make at least three meals out of it. Everything was delicious juicy chicken with crispy tater tots in a refreshing lemonade you can't beat it. I will definitely be making another trip to this location for some great food.

Passed by this spot on our way to downtown to get something to fuel up with. Chicken was perfectly fried and crispy. The flavor was nice. They offered a variety of sauces, all were great. Overall it was a nice surprise. Would go back again. Bussin!

Google
Had the Berwyn hot with the fries. The chicken is definitely huge, it’ll definitely fill anyone up. However, there’s not much flavor to the chicken sandwich and it’s very greasy. The wait was pretty bad. We only order two Berwyn hot but waited around 30 minutes to get our food. I would come back if the wait time was less and there was more flavor to the sandwhich and less grease.

Google
The fries here are some of the best I've had. Their crunch survived the drive home. The chicken strips were also quite good. I specifically went for the fish and chips. The fish was a massive portion, it didn't fit flat in the giant cake box. The fish was so flaky and really good. My only slight gripe is both times I've ordered the food has been delayed and I've had to wait 10-15 minutes past the pick up time. I understand it's busy but maybe the pick up suggestions need to be padded a bit more

Greg

Yelp
Aside from having to take a massive sh*t afterwards, (I think it was the cocktail sauce), the shrimp was delicious and beautifully breaded. The cocktail sauce was amazing, and the tots were on point, a little burnt but other then that my only complaint! Service was amazing!!! Def returning.

Yelp
We really wanted to like this place. The hype was everywhere for a while during COVID but after giving them 3-4 tries, not so good. First time we tried ordering was by phone. They didn't answer for 30 minutes of trying to get through. Then when they did they said hold on and we got put on hold for 10 minutes. They came back on and took our order and said give us 30-45 minutes. We came in to pick it up after 45 minutes and told it still wasn't ready, give them another few minutes. After 20 minutes we checked and they said it was next. We saw 2-3 more people pick up orders and it asked what happened, they said sorry, we gave your order to someone else. And they'd remake it. We said never mind and left. Second time, we went in for a late lunch hoping to beat any crowd and it didn't fare well either. Waited 30 minutes for 2 chicken sandwiches and tots. Got the food and the chicken was hard as a hockey puck. Third time was months later. Ordered ahead again. Went in to pick it up and guess what, it wasn't ready yet. Even after an hour after placing the order. The said sorry it's been real busy, like they do every time we've gone in. But that can't be your excuse after being in business for a couple years now. How do you not have this together yet? Finally got the order, brought it home and found food missing from the order we placed. Last time, still no change except the chicken this time was waaaaaay smaller and barely fit on the bun. What happened to those oversize breast! In short, this place can't get it together. Wait times insane. Food orders never right. Quality of food hit or mis, but mostly a mis. We also don't get the owner or main chef guy that does all their ads. Why so angry? And why are you never in the kitchen when we go there? Also, why are they still advertising the old sausage stand business everywhere? Nothing about the chicken joint they are today. All the signs and displays are sun faded. They all talk about Big Guys Sausage. You might want to change that up as you are not the sausage stand anymore and haven't been in years. If it's the same owner cool, but your not the same food or name. It's kind of misleading. They make you think it's all big marketing and accolades from all over, but it's not about the chicken business. Then there's the cost. They like to shout saying things like, "look at the size of this thing!" and where else you gonna get a chicken sandwich this big for this price. That would be fine if the food was actually really good. But this is just oversized portions for the sake of it. No concentration on quality at all. In short, if you're going to order from here, be prepared for a long wait and double check your order before you leave the building. We do like the Svengoolie references though! Maybe you could have him come out for a special event and cross promotions Notes to the business / management / owner: - Get your staff trained up! Not enough staff or they don't know what they're doing. - Update your decor to match what business you are. Are you Berwyn Chicken or Big Guys Sausage? - Work on quality over quantity. Yeah, you've got a big ass sandwich. Ok, but is it any good? - Get that time down! There is no reason you can't get those food orders under 30 minutes or at least on time to what you tell people. It's chicken and fries all of which are on timers. - Stop with all the excuses. It's ALWAYS something. Someone called in. You got real busy. The fryer was down. You ran out of chicken. If it's the staff, hire the right people. - What's with the attitude? You're not as hip and cool as you think. You gotta earn it. Otherwise, you're just an Ed Debevic's serving bad chicken.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place and was so excited to try it with my fiancé after seeing it all over social media. I'm all about my personal honest reviews so here it goes. We walked into the place and it was crowded on a Saturday afternoon. The employee was kind and took our order. I got the "Oak Park" and my fiancé got the hot chicken sandwich. They both came in lined bakery boxes that had our chicken sandwiches, packed pickles, slaw, sauce and we opted for the tater tots. After we got our food we picked a nice park to eat it at. Visibly the chicken cutlet was huge and it exceeded the bun in size. It was like a pounded chicken cutlet that was battered and fried. We did not enjoy the sandwich at all and thought it was too salty and the coating didn't stick onto the chicken. The tater tots were hard fried and extremely hard and crunchy. We like crunchy tots but they over fried these to the point where it wasn't enjoyable at all. I didn't want to leave this kind of review because I really was hyped about this place but unfortunately to each their own and at least it was an experience we got to have.

Yelp
I'm not sure where to even begin... First of all, I feel sick to my stomach. I just wasted $32 on a chicken sandwich and a couple of "Italian beef" egg rolls. We ordered the Berwyn Hot chicken sandwich and 2 Italian beef egg rolls with 2 DCs. First, let me start with the cokes were not cold. Ok, fine. NBD. Second, the lady who came in after us and ordered a chicken sandwich as well, got her food before us. I'm positive those egg rolls do not take longer than the chicken sandwich. Third, the egg rolls seem like they are premade. There is hardly any filling and they don't come with any au just for dipping. At $4 a pop, definitely not worth it. Go down the road to Lavergne's. I promise you won't be disappointed. The chicken sandwich comes with sauce, coleslaw and pickles. We received three tiny pickles that could be consumed in a single bite. I was still excited to taste the chicken sandwich at this point. Well, it was way overcooked and for some reason - SWEET. Why is my "hot" chicken sandwich sweet? Apparently, they put some honey stuff on there. There was nothing hot about that sandwich whatsoever. Also, the sandwich make look big, but the chicken inside of all that breading is barely there. Really, the only think I could taste was overcooked breading and that sauce. Since we were eating there, I went to the counter and let the guy know that I didn't like any of my food. He told me that he couldn't give me my money back, but he could remake the egg rolls if I wanted. I was floored. Working in the restaurant business for as many years as I have, you KNOW this is NEVER the right answer. A bad review goes a lot further than a good one. Also, I'm not one for wasting food, but this just wasn't edible. So now, I'm down $32 and still haven't had any dinner. I supported them before they closed and was super excited to go try the new concept. Never again. I'm just absolutely sick over this. The worst part about it was that even though I told the guy my sandwich was overcooked and tasted bad, he never offered to remake that. BUYER BEWARE

Yelp
Most bland unseasoned and uncrispy chicken I have ever eaten. The service and ambience are serviceable. Based solely off of the food I will not be coming back.

Yelp
I don't know if this is the best chicken sandwich on earth, but it certainly is the best one I have ever had. The Berwyn hot has a nice spice to it without a lot of heat. I can handle an absurd amount of heat, so this was pretty mild but with excellent flavor. It's completely unnatural and I wouldn't be surprised if years down the road we find out these were eagle breasts. Friendly service as always we were customers when they were Big Guys, but this is the first time we have been out since the change . It's tiny inside though so be prepared to eat in your car or take it home during peak hours .

Ivan S.

Yelp
Never again, highly disappointed. This was my 2nd time back , and they just lost a customer. Not that it matters but to wait 1.5 hours on an online order for (1) reg sized chicken sandwich is ridiculous.. don't waste your time. However, The food is super good but having to wait at the establishment for an extra 1 hour without acknowledgment is non sense. The 1st time I was there , I was a walk in and got my food 40min later and that was still a long time to wait. I asked about my order twice, and by the 3rd time i was fuming.. if you value your time, you can get better service elsewhere. FTP

Yelp
The chicken is FIRE !!! Service was quick and easy nothing bad to say about that. As far as the restaurant, I wish the space was bigger and had better seating for people to eat. Besides that it's some good take out.
google avatar

Daniel F.

Yelp
Came in here on a snowy day and did not regret my decision. I had heard the portions were generous and my expectations were definitely met. The patty was bigger than my face and perfectly fried. I'm a big tater tot person so I'm glad we were able to pick an additional option. I will say the hot sandwich has a sweet and spicy consistency which I generally opt out of but it still tasted great. You can definitely share this sandwich but I hope to come back and try more on the menu
google avatar

Edward M.

Yelp
I tried the chicken sandwich for the first time and it was not that bad and I felt like two people can eat from one sandwich that's how big it was And don't be shy and give them a try

Yelp
Chicken sandwich excellent, 3milk cake Excellent fries excellent will definitely be back again. Whatever this place is doing keep doing it.!!!..... just change the name of the special sauce.......PAUSE..

Yelp
Quick service and delicious sandwich! I had the berwyn hot chicken sandwich with tater tots. The chicken was the size of my face and well seasoned. Pairs great with the tots and punk sauce. Give this place a try if you haven't yet. Coming back soon.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food, hot chicken sandwich is more sweet and spicy than spicy. Service is friendly. Tight quarters with lots of momentos and memorabilia.
google avatar

Yelp
Surprisingly, this place was pretty good. My expectations weren't too high walking in and I see that as the entrance (picture attached). At first, I thought they were closed, they boxes weren't even neatly stacked up. BUT other than that, the food was one of the better chicken places in Berwyn. I've been wanting to try this place since it opened, not too long ago, and I finally gave it a go & even convinced my family to try it after my good food experience. It's a nice local spot that I plan on going to in the future as well. The service was ehh, nothing crazy nor not bad service either. Especially try the freshly squeezed lemonade! Very sugary but very high quality too, great mixer haha if you're in the area, this place wouldn't hurt to give a try! I would recommend at least once. Personal Review: 7.9/10
google avatar

Aly R.

Yelp
Was the chicken good? Yes. Will I return? NEVER. never ever ever. I had to pull up 3 different times because they could not give me what I ordered. (Missing items multiple times) On top of waiting 30 more minutes from when I was told my food would be ready on my confirmation email, by time I was home the fries & chicken were cold and stale. The mashed potatoes were warm because that was the last thing I had to turn back around for because they didn't bother checking that all my items were in the bag. I was so close to leaving the food and asking for a refund but after 50 min of waiting I took the L and took it home. If you're okay with the service being that horrid, definitely check them out.
google avatar

Pito S.

Yelp
So I've been wanting to try this place out after seeing it in so many food reviews on social media. I ordered the hot chicken and we'll there wasn't any spicy to it. But it definitely was a nice size and a good tasting bird just wished it was spicy... The other downfall was my tater tots were over cooked and had to toss them out. Anyone reading this review go try them for yourself, I feel it was an off day for them.
google avatar

Anthony G.

Yelp
The chicken sandwich was huge and delicious, we ordered the spicy one, but it wasn't spicy. It was a good taste. I wasn't impressed and the shrimp were huge. If you're in the area stop and pick one up. If you're smart, call ahead and have your order ready for you.
google avatar

Alyssa S.

Yelp
Love this place! I've had the chicken wing dinner with a side of mac and cheese. I've also had the fried shrimp and the chips. The chicken was very tasty. I wasn't a huge fan of the mac and cheese. My favorite item is the fried shrimp and the freshly made chips. The shrimp are HUGE! They are perfectly fried and well seasoned and come with your choice of sauce but they are so well seasoned you really don't need sauce. The chips are nice and thin cut and light and crispy. Although it's called Berwyn Chicken, I'm totally hooked on the shrimp!

Yelp
Well I just came from showering and exercising and introducing a roommate for to the house I grew up in. Originally I was about to go to White fence farm but I wanted to find out about this my first visit to this chicken place in Berwyn and was curious. A neighbor mentioned about this place and originally we were supposed to make this a bucket list but he didn't want to go here he wanted Lou malnati's pizza. I should have came earlier but I had to introduce this place and clean up my house and was quite busy. Anyways ambience is kind of like a hole in the wall but that's not a bad thing since it's a smaller place almost like a tasty freeze or Jean and Jude's. I guess when you come late there are lines and so the service is going to take longer. It took longer since I ordered the quarter chicken dinner and they even gave me an extra breast although it took them 40 more minutes the reason that's the three stars but then again I should have came earlier. Food was good but I didn't like being kicked out to eat I wanted to eat over here
google avatar

Nachristta K.

Yelp
I watched my sandwich being made and dipped in some sauce and thought it would be soggy but when I bite into it it was nice a crispy

Yelp
Place is decent! First time trying it out. The staff that took our order was okay - felt a bit off with him. I had the fried chicken wings and fried shrimp with side of tator tots. It was good. My husband had something similar but asked for mashed potatoes. Ours was a take out order, so when we got home he was upset that there were no mashed potatoes after he ordered it. We were already home and did not want to drive 15 min back to ask for mashed potatoes. We wouldve given 4 stars had not the mashed potatoes was not missed. This place has a small indoor eating area where you order and an outside patio.

Stanley C.

Yelp
I received a comment months later today from the owner. He apparently thinks being rude to a customer is ok. Now because of this I will be posting on every site possible his message. If you're employees are ignorant and rude it comes from the top as the response proves this. I did not mention that I called 1 hour before they closed. Here is my original call. I called to order and I was polite and was rudly told we are not taking phone orders as too busy. I will never ever go there and will be telling all about this. What a joke for a place that boasts about being the best.
google avatar

Yelp
I was so exited to try this place out just moving in within 2blocks got the hot chicken yes it's large but it's dry and burnt and very greasy you can taste the butter Very disappointed Had to press it with napkins once I got home Spent a lot too Ordered quart of lemonade very sweet had to add water Fries were good Coleslaw is very watery threw out Shrimp and strips were good Will not be going back unless someone pays for me
google avatar

Marjulia F.

Yelp
They have the chicken that tastes like you made it at home. It was seasoned & fried very well.

Caleb A.

Yelp
Very good chicken sandwich. They're massive but delicious. We had the fried shrimp as well. Those were very good. Overall, great.
google avatar

Matt J.

Yelp
Avoid this place! Ordered at 5:00, it's now 6:50, the order never arrived, they're not answering their phone. Voice mail is full. Scam artists!!! So much for trying to give a local business a shot - lost my business forever.
google avatar

Dominick V.

Yelp
The chicken sandwich is ENORMOUS! Very tasty. The fries that come with the sandwich are THE BEST EVER!! I was delighted with everything!
google avatar

Kristine R.

Yelp
This place did not disappoint!!! Your meal will have more than enough for later as well!!! And the sauce ohmygod so good!!!
google avatar

Victoria J.

Yelp
Walked into this place very excited to try after seeing them on social media. Walked in, the cashier looked up at us and immediately looked back down to his phone without a greeting. There were no other customers inside for your reference. My mother then spoke saying "Hello, is there a menu?" Once again, the cashier looked up from his phone, said nothing and looked back down. We walked out. Customer service is so important and so is word of mouth. I would think they would be more welcoming especially with NO customers. Also, for this to be a place specializing in fried chicken. It didn't smell like anything.
google avatar

Lupini P.

Yelp
The chicken is outstanding crispy and tender the shrimp are ok there pounded flat nothing special about the fries there seasoned the bread roll is excellent!! I would go just for a he chicken only!!
google avatar

Victoria M.

Yelp
This place is great! The food was soooo tasty and for such reasonable prices you get a lot. We actually spoke with the owner and he talked about how they try hard to keep it affordable for everyone. It's so important to support local small businesses and this fried chicken is so worth the support. Staff was super nice and the place is small but lots of outdoor seating. Will def be back!
google avatar

Tara K.

Yelp
I'm the biggest fan of this place! The food is outstanding- and the value- all from scratch made with love.. the chicken sandwich is my favorite- kids love the Mac and cheese- and mashed potatoes better than grandma makes! - and if there are sweet treats on tee menu- grab one for later treat yourself!!!
google avatar

Nektaria R.

Yelp
Yummy! Of course I miss the old place but this new joint is worth your time and money!!! I had the 3 piece of wings (bbq) and pbj churros. Oh boy. Too much food but very fresh, tasty, delicious, and crispy. Folks are nice and quick to serve but order ahead if you are in a hurry. Thinking next time I'm calling my order in. Parking in the rear. Some seating. Check them out.

Mike R.

Yelp
After being really disappointed, we tried it again. We got the whole chicken dinner and a box of onion rings. Really greasy- even for fried chicken. Didn't get our sauces or the coleslaw. The place is a mess and dirty. Waited over 30 minutes for the order - at around 3pm on a weekday not going back.
google avatar

Kathy M.

Yelp
We ordered take out while in Oak Park visiting and thought the chicken was really good. The tater tots were on the small side, but tasted ok. The macaroni salad wasn't a favorite of our group, but that really just comes down to personal preferences. We received a free chocolate crème dessert which was very nice, but also not our favorite, the texture wasn't right for us. More gritty than creamy. We somehow didn't get our rolls, so can't share an opinion on those. We also tried the fried shrimp and thought it was ok. It's what you would expect for fried shrimp at a fried chicken place. Overall, we really liked the fried chicken and definitely will order from them again.

Yelp
Never again. 227 dlls for dry turkey no seasonings lol poor turkey had no color the mash potatoes had mozzarella shredded cheese on top. The baked mac cheese also had had shredded mozzarella cheese. Wasted money disappointed buyer

Yelp
Really delicious fried chicken from this hole in the wall in Berwyn/Oak Park. Leftovers were even really good 2 days later after being refrigerated, which was a bonus. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Best chicken sandwich I've had outside of Nashville. Tots & mashed potatoes are decadent. Insanely good chicken strips. Had a mix up with the third party delivery service & the owner called and text me & made it right. Important: no, the food isn't cheap. But folks--the portions are insane & the quality unmatched. One $100 meal fed my family of four, including two teenage boys, for two nights. So the value is fantastic & that's all that should matter!

Liisa J.

Yelp
SAVE YOURSELF TIME. We ordered our food and it was never delivered. I tried to reach out to the business directly to gauge an ETA . No one answered. I reached out to the delivery service and was promised that the order was complete, the driver was there, and that it would get delivered. Two hours after we ordered, it was finally canceled and refunded. No apologies. I will not give this place another try. Ignore the hype.

Yelp
Chicken sandwich was fresh, hot and tasty! Mac & cheese were excellent, plus they sell Filbert's bottled sodas! The place was packed, but the owner was super friendly and so was the line cook. Definitely going back! Love how all the food is made from scratch. You can tell it's all high quality ingredients.

Yelp
The chicken was good and tasty, the only problem was the wings were as big as my hand, I never saw a wing that big before, I didn't want to eat it.

Yelp
Food was served quickly. Went with 2 thighs, onion rings, (enough to share) collard greens (for a limited time) and a Filbert's root beer. $24.21 Onion rings have very heavy breading but where full of flavor. Fried chicken was mighty tasty. I had to finally make it here for the collard greens, which were here for a limited time, they were killer. Follow them on Facebook for the latest special side.

Yelp
Had a delicious fairly priced chicken dinner. The chicken had a good flavor and texture. The options for sauces were amazing! The favorites for us were the Mango one and the mild sauce. The collard greens were delicious as they were a special side. The rolls were also soft and tasty. I highly recommend. Staff were friendly. It is a small area with limited seating inside it does have picnic tables outside.

Yelp
Delicious and HUGE chicken sandwich!! Large and thick pieces of chicken that were very juicy. Great gumbo special too :)

Yelp
I have never, ever had chicken so disgusting. Along with the customer service and wait times that were excessive and unbearable. the batter on the chicken was still uncooked, and tasted soaked up with all the frying oil. not to mention how incredibly unseasoned it turned out to be as well. the taste of the sauces were disgusting, bland, un creative. The workers here had absolutely no sense of urgency when taking orders when making the food, i got no utensils nor napkins which is bare minimum considering i basically ate oil soup. Extremely overpriced for the quality, it was cramped and when i came back within their suggest 25 estimated wait time they told me to wait yet another 20 minutes which in total was 45 minutes for disgusting undercooked and over oiled chicken. Their tiny shop had around 15 people standing in an no climate controlled waiting area, the waiter there kept telling everyone they had to wait an estimated 25 minutes so i asked around and everyone in there averaged 35 minutes on wait time. i don't understand how they can advertise themselves on social media and not be able to handle the clientele that comes in

Yelp
Walking into the venue I was welcome by a bunch of boxes and containers. It was not a welcoming ambiance. The service was good. We went on a Saturday night and they weren't busy. I got friend chicken and my friend got the shrimp. The food made up for the lack of scenery. The fries and mild sauce was crazy good. The rolls gave me the itis and the wings remind me of the uncle Remus recipe. At that price point I will be back.
