Yelp
We really wanted to like this place. The hype was everywhere for a while during COVID but after giving them 3-4 tries, not so good.
First time we tried ordering was by phone. They didn't answer for 30 minutes of trying to get through. Then when they did they said hold on and we got put on hold for 10 minutes. They came back on and took our order and said give us 30-45 minutes. We came in to pick it up after 45 minutes and told it still wasn't ready, give them another few minutes. After 20 minutes we checked and they said it was next. We saw 2-3 more people pick up orders and it asked what happened, they said sorry, we gave your order to someone else. And they'd remake it. We said never mind and left.
Second time, we went in for a late lunch hoping to beat any crowd and it didn't fare well either. Waited 30 minutes for 2 chicken sandwiches and tots. Got the food and the chicken was hard as a hockey puck.
Third time was months later. Ordered ahead again. Went in to pick it up and guess what, it wasn't ready yet. Even after an hour after placing the order. The said sorry it's been real busy, like they do every time we've gone in. But that can't be your excuse after being in business for a couple years now. How do you not have this together yet? Finally got the order, brought it home and found food missing from the order we placed.
Last time, still no change except the chicken this time was waaaaaay smaller and barely fit on the bun. What happened to those oversize breast!
In short, this place can't get it together. Wait times insane. Food orders never right. Quality of food hit or mis, but mostly a mis.
We also don't get the owner or main chef guy that does all their ads. Why so angry? And why are you never in the kitchen when we go there?
Also, why are they still advertising the old sausage stand business everywhere? Nothing about the chicken joint they are today. All the signs and displays are sun faded. They all talk about Big Guys Sausage. You might want to change that up as you are not the sausage stand anymore and haven't been in years. If it's the same owner cool, but your not the same food or name. It's kind of misleading. They make you think it's all big marketing and accolades from all over, but it's not about the chicken business.
Then there's the cost. They like to shout saying things like, "look at the size of this thing!" and where else you gonna get a chicken sandwich this big for this price. That would be fine if the food was actually really good. But this is just oversized portions for the sake of it. No concentration on quality at all.
In short, if you're going to order from here, be prepared for a long wait and double check your order before you leave the building.
We do like the Svengoolie references though! Maybe you could have him come out for a special event and cross promotions
Notes to the business / management / owner:
- Get your staff trained up! Not enough staff or they don't know what they're doing.
- Update your decor to match what business you are. Are you Berwyn Chicken or Big Guys Sausage?
- Work on quality over quantity. Yeah, you've got a big ass sandwich. Ok, but is it any good?
- Get that time down! There is no reason you can't get those food orders under 30 minutes or at least on time to what you tell people. It's chicken and fries all of which are on timers.
- Stop with all the excuses. It's ALWAYS something. Someone called in. You got real busy. The fryer was down. You ran out of chicken. If it's the staff, hire the right people.
- What's with the attitude? You're not as hip and cool as you think. You gotta earn it. Otherwise, you're just an Ed Debevic's serving bad chicken.
