Taylor Swift Music, Banned at a Chicago Bar, Is Embraced With a Drag Brunch at Another - Eater Chicago

"In Chinatown, one cocktail bar is taking the opposite approach. A sign on the door at Best Bar, 2233 S. Wentworth Avenue, makes its position clear: 'Shake it off: No Taylor Swift music is allowed here.'" - Naomi Waxman

Super Cool vibe here! They play great music! Lighting's great the music is at the perfect level to enjoy it but not be overwhelmed by it. Bartenders Rock! We were there for about 40 minutes and it went from four people to about 30 people very quickly. We will be back!

Google
I defenetly recommend this place. I usually only come for the food in this area. This was the first time that I came Bar hopping (I didn't know you could go Bar hopping in Chinatown). I am so glad that I walked in here. I will definitely be returning. Our bartender/Mykala is the best and she makes some of thee best drinks. She puts magic into them. (No exaggeration). So if you are around come in and experience for yourself.

Google
I love this bar. it’s the epitome of a chicago experience. great cocktails, amazing bartenders — shoutout to Chris and William!! a variety of nights and emotions driven by the people in the establishment. Teknoir on sundays for industry night does an incredible job, great line ups and vibes. I don’t know the owners but Uriahs and Sam did great hiring amazing people.

Google
Great late night bar in Chinatown. Nice atmosphere, drinks are good, just make sure to use the printed menu not the website as they changed their drink lineup recently

It was very chill, drinks are great. The music isn’t too loud or cringe. The waiters treat you well and I had a good time with my friends at this place Would come again :)

I’ve been coming here since January and was really glad I found the one bar in Chinatown and it happens to be totally my vibe. Since I live close by it’s nice to have somewhere I can go to unwind and also party down on the weekend. Sunday is my favorite day to go because they have a late industry night that is hosted by some really friendly (namely Samantha/Pat/Pano/Mel/Adonis) and fun people who bump some funky and groovy tunes. The Bar staff has been very helpful too not just in service but also safety and ensuring that everyone is satisfied but also having a good time. So far I’ve brought half a dozen friends from out of town or even just neighbors who don’t get out much. Haven’t had any trouble parking because the main night I go the neighborhood is pretty quiet and the streets are empty, which is also nice for going outside to smoke and chat because there’s rarely anyone walking around to bother. All in all I’d say the only thing lacking is some screens (tv/movies) or for visuals to add another layer of entertainment on top of the music! Regardless I’ll be back again Sunday to dance!

Spent the other night at this place with a close friend. It’s a great place to stop, enjoy the drinks and have a meaningful conversation. Greatly appreciate the hosts we had by the bar, as they served us the most delicious margaritas and spirit free cocktails! Saved and hope to be back soon!

Yelp
I was at Best Bar on a Sunday a few months ago I was with a friend that got what was supposed to be cocaine from the manager Uriah Kersey and it actually was ketamine and I didn't realize it and I was drugged out of my mind for awhile until it wore off and there were men groping me while I was in this state of confusion and induced drugging. I have yet to go to the police but I am bringing this to the attention of the owners of this establishment and others that attend this bar.

Yelp
One of my favorite Chinatown bars: always has some good drinks to pass the time. The sound system def got better & ambiance is still beautiful as always. Visited with my friends (a few years ago for a birthday) and last night to chat. Bartender was super patient & kind when taking my order for the Breakfast in Japan cocktail (I ask so many questions) and even when we split a little bit of my cocktail, he was kind enough to refill the missing amount. One downfall is that when we sat near the DJ system, there was an overwhelming stink of body odor even though there was no one at the DJ station or seated near us.

Yelp
I left a review a few months ago but I recently went back, and unfortunately my opinions have changed. Everything was perfect as far as the bartender, the drinks, and ambiance. However, while we were sitting at the bar, a roach emerged from behind the bar. This completely soured our experience, which sucks because this was my favorite bar in Chinatown. It just seems like the standards of cleanliness are not there.

Yelp
Went here last night for a drink. Super cute bar! It wasn't crowded thankfully, I love a lowkey bar. (Not sure of the usual crowd, but it was raining and a Tuesday night lol so ‍) Bartenders were quick and attentive. I got the Litty lychee and the tequila daga night. They were both so good, the tequila drink was definitely felt, so no skipping out on the liquor. Definitely adding this bar on my list of must revisits. Also, the ceiling!!!! I thought it was so cool, I kept watching the little shooting stars, loved my time here for sure.

Yelp
If you find yourself in Chinatown and are looking for a simple drink, then bar would be an easy place to stop in. The back bar is beautiful with an arching, light wood shelving filled with a member of respectable spirits. The bar staff is friendly and will certainly chat all evening with you about anything from pop culture to personal matters. While the service was excellent, the cocktail menu shows promise for improvement. All that being said, if you are sweating from a hot day outside, a cold TsingTao can't go wrong. Dragon's Milk: 3/5 while it was recommended as the most popular drink on the menu, I found its flavors, a little muted. The strawberry didn't shine and even though it came with a milk blend base, the mouthfeel wasn't representative A Hot Mez: 3/5 again, some muted flavors. Mezcal is such a beautiful drink that I didn't feel received enough attention. While I appreciate the use of superlime in drinks, it wasn't enough to make up for me

Yelp
Nice spot for a drink while you're waiting for a table at a nearby restaurant or as a night cap! Very comfortable vibe, almost like you're at your friends house sitting on the couch. The lychee martini wasn't really lycee forward, moreso tasted like a pink lemonade which was kind of disappointing but the other drinks were good!

Yelp
Me and my absolute fucking boys had a great time at best bar. Ambience is great conversation was spectacular. Drinks are out of this world. Highly recommend to anyone visiting the china town area

Yelp
Over priced drinks, there is always a poop smell in the air and I'm pretty sure the bartender put the same straw back in my drink he used to taste the drink.. i don't write reviews normally but this is just my experience the 3 times i was there

Yelp
i think its super cute that chinatown has a bar now. or two or three.. cant keep track... but I came here actually after a visit to the chinese herbal doctor and had some frustration with my prescription. they had a happy hour deal till 6 pm and i ordered this super delicious lychee drink that was smooth and strong! I think the name was dragon potion or something.. or dragon elixir. only downside was that there was only one bartender... again and it took a while to get to my order. but all good it was pouring outside and the drink tasted amazing! strong and potent

Yelp
I stumbled upon this bar passing by after dinner. It reminded me of a cocktail bar I used to visit frequently in Chinatown in NYC, so I doubled back and went inside. They manage to capture the essence of a Chinatown bar; that feeling of intimacy and hospitality, with a lean toward dramatic decor that is understated with more casual furniture, and it all balances out to create a perfect place to sit down for a drink or two or three. The bartender, Tristan, gives excellent recommendations, sees everything happening in the bar like the eye of Sauron, and instantly made me feel welcome. It was a freezing night in Chicago and I was in the mood for something with heat, and he recommended their "...we have a problem" cocktail and it was the perfect amount of sweet with a cinnamon kick that makes this cocktail extremely drinkable. It was so drinkable that I was surprised at how fast I drank it, and although I meant to only stop in for one drink, I was eager to order another one. I ordered two more cocktails, each equally as excellent as the last in their own unique way. If it wasn't a Monday night and I didn't have work the next morning I would have stayed for more. The spirits they are using are quality and many of them local. The ingredients they use are unique but familiar, like river salt on the rim of the "Super Nice" cocktail. The craft in the cocktails is obvious, and the best part is that they're not pretentious about it. The bartender, Tristan, walks the fine line of bringing the guests at the bar together while also letting people breathe in the way only the best bartenders can do. He reads the room and reads the crowd (hence why I said he's like the eye of Sauron) and he also makes excellent cocktails the whole time. I have had great cocktails in many places, but my favorite place to have great cocktails is a place just like this.

Yelp
Ambiance is great. This is a good bar for a date night - music is very chill until late. Dark lighting. Pretty light fixtures and seating. Small and lowkey. Not sure if they have food or not. If you love whiskey this is a must. They have a million whiskey cocktails which isn't very common. I'll be back!

Yelp
vibes were vibin' and the music was bumpin' all while I got drunk drinking a delicious cocktail and told my entire life story, in all its naursty detail, to my coworker. we then walked to the Chiu Quon next door but they were out of most things cuz it was 9:30, then we went to miniso and I bought a cute watermelon duck plushie, then we went to Mango Mango and got Durian dessert and tried going to Ping Tom park to eat it but got kicked out by the scummy park police (ACAB). anyways, bar was great, 10/10

Yelp
Wound up here by accident was trying to go to 9 bar but they were closed and the person working at the take out counter recommended we try best bar. I am glad she did!!! The drinks here are phenomenal thoughtful complex flavors that are perfectly balanced. The playlist was also really good and not too loud. I got a chance to talk to the new owner Javi and he told me they will be doing some renovations and changing the name to Cozy Garden. Excited to come back and see the new layout

Yelp
Lowkey and non pretentious spot. Great drinks and super friendly and fun bartenders! The Litty Lyche was delicious

Yelp
What a great find in Chinatown!! Such amazing decor and concept. I think the whole bar is themed for galaxy/Star Wars based on the decor and drinks. One drink is called "Obi Wan"! I thought the drinks all sounded super interesting on paper, but the taste and presentations were a bit of a let down, especially the espresso martini, no foam, no layers of taste. This would be a solid 4 star bar for me, but unfortunately, the service we received that day was below average. Only one bartender was there on Sunday afternoon, and there were roughly 9 people at the bar. The bartender didn't acknowledge us when we entered, didn't offer water, or bother to take our orders. We had to hunt him down while he's busy chatting with a few female patrons at the bar.

Sabrina C.

Yelp
I think that this place is a great addition to the Chinatown area. Even though there are a few kinks that are still being worked out, there is no denying the craftsmanship that goes into the creation of the drinks. Wow they make standard drinks exceptionally well, their specialty cocktails really knocked it out of the park and there is something for everyone! They also have liquor to go - which is a definite plus.

Yelp
Stopped in after getting food at Lowcountry the other night and had a really nice time. We ordered the Un"pear"ably Good, The Sputnik, Barry Manilojito, and the Pretty Nice. All of the drinks were made perfectly, but my favorites were the Un"pear"ably Good and The Sputnik. Overall, I can't wait to come back here since the bar atmosphere was class and not too loud, and the bartender was already nice to chat with!
google avatar

Becca L.

Yelp
Street parking Friendly bartender and servers Chil vibes. Music not too loud to have a conversation. Velvet lounge seats. Cool place to chill and chat. Had the lunar love - a deep sweet drink. Un"pear"ably good - strong ginger flavor, min pear.

Yelp
As I continue my quest to find the best old fashioned in Chicago, I was recommended to visit this cocktail bar in Chinatown. Judging by the reviews, this is a fairly new establishment. It's pretty low-key and they have djs come and play on certain nights. If you are a house head, dj Wayne Williams plays a house mix on Thursday evenings which was a treat. The drinks were good and you can tell they really care about presentation of each cocktail. I only took a star off because I thought they had food (small bites) but we were told they didn't serve food nor could we bring outside food in. It's not a huge deal, but maybe they can reconsider adding a few small bites to their menu. Overall a good chill ending to my night with some good drinks and music. Recommend this place.

Yelp
Amazing chill bar in the old part of Chinatown. I honestly thought this was super hidden but so underrated. I asked Tristan the bartender what is a nice alcohol forward drink with tequila or whiskey and he told me about SUPER NICE. A cocktail with tequila + mezcal and coconut milk + lychee + lavender, lemon & lime. It was delicious and topped with agave & Hawaiian lava salt on the edge of the glass Really nice bar for a chill night or even a DJ-filled evening since they have different theme nights, an open dance floor (which usually is a lounge), and goes till 1-2am normally Will be back to try their other cocktails! Note cocktails are $15-$20 but they have a wide range of drinks

Yelp
I found this spot through Groupon, and what a find! Cool bar to get drinks. I believe we came on "Emo Night" from what I overheard another patron say. Good playlist going. The bar had just switched over to their fall menu, but the bartender made the matcha piña colada for me, as I had seen the cocktail was listed in their online menu. Delicious! I'm glad I was able to experience the cocktail! I also had the Luna Love it was good, but I wouldn't order it again.

Yelp
Was blessed to be able to check out this bar during the soft opening. The owner was great and so welcoming. The staff was knowledgeable and showed so much passion about the food menu. We felt so welcome and definitely want to return. The space feels upscale and is going to be a hidden gem in Chinatown. By the way, the drink menu is out of the world. My favorite drink is the Champagne Cocktail. It's made with Moet, Hennessy, and grapefruit bitters. Wishing you all the best and much success!

Yelp
It's gone completely downhill since the change of ownership. The hours are subject to whoever is working. If you ask any questions, they treat you like garbage. It's after 8pm on a Friday, btw. The time before I sat at the bar and it was 20 minutes before I was greeted. It was rudely with anger and no remorse. This place will fail. I hope the next owners understand what "service" means in the service industry. It's a shame.

Yelp
We will never ever ever ever support an establishment like this. It had absolutely no Style. There was Red stuff on the floor in the bathroom and definitely not Clean. Absolutely not Gorgeous. Don't blame me if see something bad, say bye bye baby to this place !!!

Yelp
There aren't a lot of bars in Chinatown in Chicago but this is a solid one of the few existing! We actually tried to go to the speakeasy nearby but it was WAY too packed so we came here and I'm glad we did! On a Saturday night it was populated but still had available tables and bar seating. The DJ was vibing and the ambience was cool and had some futuristic lights above the bar and on the back wall. Fun place to lounge with friends and grab drinks and have a conversation. Overall low-key and tasty drinks. Good for a chill night, and reasonably priced.

Maritza G.

Yelp
Amazing service and even better drinks!!! The vibe was amazing as well to hang out with friends

Yelp
Attractive spot conveniently located in Chinatown. The staff was really nice and attentive. We were there for an after concert party and we were able to continue the fun! I love an outdoor patio these days and theirs was spacious and comfortable. I'll be back.

Yelp
Small bar, recently established so everything looks new. Had a live DJ when I visited (Friday night). Drinks were not cheap and staff were nice. A few large screen TVs in the lounge area to set the mood. Very clean unisex bathrooms x2. Not ideal for larger groups 6-7+
google avatar

Yelp
I really like the potential for this place. Great location, manicured admittance and decor, and finely crafted cocktails make this an ideal date night ending spot. Can't wait till my next visit. Pro tip: ask for a Whistle Pig Old Fashioned.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing service and thoughtful cocktails. The gentleman who served us was incredibly helpful and attentive-- can't wait to visit again the next time I'm in Chicago!
google avatar

Yelp
Great drinks for a good price. Place can get a little crowded for larger groups, but they'll try to accommodate. VERY knowledgeable bar staff, which is really the deal sealer. Edit: I should have posted pictures, but I drank them too quickly.

Yelp
Sweet lighting. Awesome atmosphere! Good friendly people. Try the Hubble Highball!!!!

Yelp
Amazing drinks and the owner and bartenders are super chill! Highly reccomend. The Obi Won, Aviation, and their custom Cinnamon Old Fashioned are well worth a try!

Yelp
Excellent bar with excellent service. The bartender knows his stuff and was super friendly. The cocktails were absolutely delicious with unique flavors. Cool vibe with beautiful lights and art

Yelp
Had the BEST TIME @ Best Bar on Friday evening. The environment was comfortable, yet chic and the staff were ALL amazing! I will definitely go back and recommend the bar to others! Thanks Best Bar Crew!!!

Yelp
I visited this bar after Summer Dance Chicago and had a fantastic time. This is a hidden gem in Chinatown. Love the ambience, alcohol selections on point and the staff was pleasant and fun. I will definitely be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Place is amazing! Drinks were absolutely incredible and the music was on point! The vibe was great and it was nice to go somewhere a bit different.

Dr. M.

Yelp
Cute bar, TERRIBLE bar service! Others seemed to be enjoying the atmosphere and libations, but I got the distinct feeling that our guests weren't welcomed, maybe because we were totally ignored and disregarded while we sat at the bar for 20 minutes, without any acknowledgement trying to order a drink! I mean, the bar staff wouldn't even look our way. It was bad enough that the setup for us out back was disappointing and not reflecting the quality service indoors, which is why we came indoor. It felt very out of place and other patrons noticed and complained of this treatment as well. Atfer waiting, we left. Needless to say, I don't go where I'm not wanted so I won't return, and I'm sure this is exactly what the establishment wanted.

Yelp
Heard good things about this place and had to see for myself. Cool, low key vibe. Bartenders were laid back yet attentive. Nice place to grab a drink and enjoy good convo and a nice atmosphere. I plan to be back soon.

Yelp
Fresia and Charlee really gave. They were so fierce. Def gonna be coming back. They are the mother I never had. They are the siblings everybody would want. They are the friends everyone deserves. I don't know better people.

Yelp
Cute, trendy bar with creative and fun drinks. Great atmosphere and friendly service!
google avatar

Torie T.

Yelp
The owner was working as the bartender when my boyfriend and I decided to stroll in on a Monday evening. The vibe was swanky and cool, with perfectly crafted cocktails to match! The energy made it a great place to celebrate my first day at a new job. I would totally recommend this bar to locals and frequent Chinatown-goers like myself who want to experience a fun and extensively unique menu like this place! My boyfriend and I will absolutely be returning to try the rest of the menu. Tonight, I had the "Buzzed Aldrin" and Passionfruit Margarita. The flavors were bright and tasteful! Can't wait to return and say that I went to this bar before it was cool
google avatar

Edith L.

Yelp
Great vibes at this bar! One of a kind in Chinatown. The cocktails are phenomenal, music isn't too loud, and my friends and I had great conversations tonight. Definitely will be coming back in the future.
google avatar

Doug H.

Yelp
A terrific Old Fashioned, cool ambiance, and a bartender that knows his business! Highly recommended to stop and unwind.

Jim M.

Yelp
Went here for karaoke to find out they have pretentious rules on which songs they allow people to sing. Get over yourselves.

Yelp
What a welcome addition to Chinatown! Came here with a group of 6 friends, instantly met with warm service. Great cocktails, wonderful service, all in a nicely decorated space. Chris and all the other staff members were super hospitable!
