I have used Best Cleaners on A since 2017. They were my go-to when I lived in the area, and they were so good I used them for years after I moved out of the neighborhood. They did good work and they were affordable, though it does look like their prices went up, which is understandable.
About a year ago I gave them a skirt which needed its hem redone. They dry-cleaned it instead. I asked them to redo the hem free of charge. They agreed to it over the phone. Then in person the woman said we can do it for a discount. I said no, I want it done for free. I've paid you already and it looks like the drycleaning is even more than a hem fix would be. I left it at the discount because this was getting ridiculous.
As I don't live in the area anymore and my work schedule is heavy, I can only come in a few times a year, which was never a problem for this business.
I came in the other day and saw they charged me a full $18 to fix the skirt. I asked why given the history. The woman who does the sewing work was behind the counter and she said she knew nothing about it and no notes had been placed, though I'm pretty sure she is the same person who agreed to do this for free over the phone and then at a discount in person!
She said the manager would call me on Monday.
The manager never called.
I called today, three days later and spoke to him. He said he'd love to give me a refund but because I took so long to pick it up he could only give me store credit. I said I'd file a dispute with the bank.
Really disappointed that a good, reliable service, which is rare in Manhattan, has gone the way of the rest and is greedy for a few extra dollars from a long time and loyal customer.
