Yelp
Have you ever had a meal so epic that you just couldn't stop thinking about it even days later?
Or what about having an authentic, genuine, real connection with another human being during the midst of a worldwide pandemic?
Well, I had both happen to me simultaneously earlier this week and It truly resonated with both my stomach (the burrito) and my heart (a real down to earth owner/customer interaction).
Come, sit back, relax and let me share my tale on how I discovered the Best Damn Breakfast Burrito.
----------------------------------------------------
While making my drive into Beverly Hills this past Thursday, I pulled over to the curb and went onto my trusty Yelp app. At first I searched "Mexican", but only done-in restaurants came up. I refined my search and typed in "breakfast burritos" and there it was...
BEST DAMN BREAKFAST BURRITO (the actual name of this place).
Two thoughts instantly came to mind:
1) That's a bold name for a restaurant.
2) I think its a sign from God, and it's my destiny to go here.
Being that it was just a 2 minute drive from where I pulled off, I put in the directions and made my way over. As the GPS directed me, it showed that I had arrived, but I couldn't see this business whatsoever. So I flipped around, Nothin. Did another flip, looked, but still nothing! I pulled off, looked up the number and a guy picked up after about 4 rings and I asked, "umm is this the burrito place? If so, where are you Guys??"
Low and behold, there was no sign up as they are in the middle of remodeling, but the guy on the phone directed me that I was in the right spot and just to park where I was.
So I walked up to the outdoor table-setup and the guy said, "were you the guy that just called?"
I said yes, and asked him what was good here?
He pointed to the top breakfast item and said the La Meta was by far their most popular, so I went with that.
After a few minutes, the man I had spoken to on the phone came back out from the kitchen and we made some small talk about his business, the current pandemic and so-on. He shared that they also have a Taco place attached called (Otro Día Tacos), an Açaí bowl on the other side (Spooning) and an American-Italian restaurant (Roni's Diner) next door that has been operating since 91'.
It felt like I had known this guy for years and I was just an old friend passing through town to say hi. It was the epitome of what every customer-small business relationship should be and I respected and valued what was shared with me about his passions of running the day-to-day business.
As my order was ready, we fist-bumped and I thanked him for the nice conversation. He said he threw in some chips and salsa and wished me a good day.
As I prepared to eat, my mouth couldn't stop watering. My stomach couldn't stop smiling. And I couldn't get that burrito in my mouth fast enough.
It truly was the...
BEST DAMN BREAKFAST BURRITO!
So half way through my burrito, I decided you know what, I just have to call this guy back and give him my sincere compliments as my soon-to-be 5 star review on Yelp just wouldn't justify my feelings for this burrito.
So I called and spoke with David, the owner, the guy that was so gracious about sharing his story with me during our 15 minute interaction and I expressed my absolute gratitude for his hospitality and I raved and raved about how life changing his burrito was.
I know some of you are wondering, What in the hell makes this burrito so epic??
Well for one, what makes up this burrito truly is what you would want in a real hearty breakfast burrito. In David's words, the secret was having the eggs cooked over easy making every bite moist and full of flavor.
What's in it:
(Eggs over Easy, cheddar cheese, bacon, tater tots, avocado and crema) with an asterisk at the end stating *LIFE CHANGING (and trust me, it REALLY was!)
----------------------------------------------------
So now what?
Where do we go from here?
Well I don't know about you, but I'm going to be giving Otro Día Tacos a go, because tacos are my life. And if those tacos are anything like that burrito,
Lord. Help. Me.
My suggestion to you...
Get in your car. Put on your seatbelt. Drive directly to Best Damn Breakfast Burrito in Beverly Hills. Order a La Meta burrito, unwrap it from its foil, sit down in case you faint and prepare yourself for the BEST DAMN BREAKFAST BURRITO of your ENTIRE life!
Thank you David for keeping it real, making me as the customer feel valued and appreciated and for forever ruining every other breakfast burrito I order at every other Mexican joint from now on. You da man!
