"This charming restaurant is the full-service offshoot of local culinary legend Sabina Bandera's acclaimed mariscos cart, La Guerrerense, located across the street; founded in 1960, and thrust into the spotlight over the years by Ms. Bandera's creativity. The mouthwatering tostadas offered here at Sabina are identical to those served at the cart and include the version spread with bacalao ceviche and heaped with tender, chopped octopus. Hot items are a bonus here, as in the pozole mariscos. The delightful bowlful features a caldo colorado broth stocked with an abundance of seafood, hominy and diced avocado. Regardless of your order, the product quality is great; down to the tortilla chips accompanied by house-made salsas." - Michelin Inspector

Excellent place, the room was nice, beautiful street view from the balcony. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that they never told us that they change the rules about the room cleaning service, In most of hotels that I've been to, you HAVE TO put the sign outside the door saying that you DO NOT want to be disturbed. In this place you are supposed to put the sign IF YOU WANT your room to be serviced.. management said that we should have read the sign. I said all the hotels follow the same rules, why did you change it and why did you you didn't let me know about it when I booked in. Just saying this FYI...

Google
Beautiful hotel, my room was roomy but still felt cozy. The staff were helpful and friendly. My one complaint would be that there was only one usable electric outlet, and it was not next to the bed like in most other hotel rooms I’ve stayed in. But that’s just me nitpicking. The parking lot is small, but you can rest soundly knowing your car is in a safe place. I would definitely stay here again.

I would definitely stay there again. I stayed five nights. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean. It was quiet in the hotel despite being in the Historic District frequented by tourists. The only downsides were the water pressure in the shower was low (but possibly due to local water conservation regulations) and the bed was harder than what I'm accustomed to, but I got used to it after the first night. If you want to eat where the locals eat and the food is home-made, I suggest Maribel at 211 Alvarado, just a few minute's walk away. The caldo de pollo, the homemade salsas and handmade tortillas were like someone's abuela would make. Maribel is on the east side of a little plaza of stores.

Google
The hotel and rooms are attractive and clean. Most of our electrical outlets were not working. The front desk staff were excellent. I'd stay here again.

Google
The staff was friendly but that was about the only good part, it is overpriced, the noise is loud from the outside bar, and they charged me twice for my room Edit: I appreciate the response from the Hotel so I will update my review from 1 star to 3

Google
Very clean and neat rooms staf very helpful and great at answering questions. Great central place for walk and shop

Google
Hotel is conveniently located on Main Street to everything local. However, parking is very tight for a full size truck. Rooms are interestingly designed. You can hear neighbors too. It’s basically what we expected for a hotel like this. No frills or nothing fancy, just a place to sleep.

Nice hotel. Rooms have fridges coffee makers and balconies. Swimming pool and terrace to just chill out. Bar and restaurant are ok

Yelp
I don't understand if some people realize this is a Best Western and not a Four Seasons. I had a great stay at El Cid and would come back if I needed a place to stay whilst in Ensenada. The location is perfect. You are close enough to the bars and the party scene, but far enough to where the drunks and loud music aren't outside your window. Our room overlooked the pool area, which we didn't use, but saw enough people enjoying and having fun. The parking situation looks like it could be tricky, but I think that goes with any hotel in the area. Our friend stayed at a hotel across the street and ended up parking at their overflow parking which was around the corner. Parking is a struggle downtown, but then again, it's like that anywhere in a "downtown" setting. The people at the front desk were very nice and offered to help with whatever we needed. Every time we came in, they said hello and asked us if everything was good. The best part of all was the AC in the room. I am always hot, so to have a nice, new AC that works great was just awesome. I had a great stay at El Cid.

Yelp
They charged me money because another guest smoked in their room (not mine). This is incredible. Our windows were never even open and we don't smoke cigars nor have any. This is scamming and fleecing Americans for cash. I will NEVER stay here again. I recommend no one stay here because they will charge you for what other people do in different rooms. It doesn't matter if you follow the rules. They just want money. Incredible. Stay away!! If you decide to stay bring a lot of cash because if somebody smokes on the other side of the hotel YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY THEM.

Edith M.

Yelp
I had been coming to this place for over +10 years with my friends and family and would always recommended this to anyone if they ever asked where to stay in Ensenada but after this weekend that has changed. They (receptionist and maids) have an operation of hassling you for cash when you check out and saying they will charge you a very "expensive smoke fee." We never smoked or had anything to smoke in our room. They said they wouldn't charge, if we paid $50 CASH. I know I shouldn't have paid it because we do not smoke but what choice did I have besides calling the police there and probably having them hassle us too. Such a shame for a place I had been visiting for years. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!

Yelp
Gross hotel terrible customer service. I reserved a balcony room and the night representative tried to give me an awkward room with no windows. I refused and was given another room with balcony but no cable. The balcony was covered in pigeon crap absolutely disgusting. The parking is very tight you can barely open your car door and the parking attendant hassled me daily about my car. It was very hard to understand him. Internet is very slow and unreliable. I had to use my phone data instead. The room and sheets were dirty and the plumbing/showers are not up to first world standards. They charge $20 a day for a small dog aprox 60% of the price of the room. My girlfriend brought a service animal and the price was the same. The guy at the front desk "juan" made a big hassle about the dog and made sure the absurd charges were applied with management before check out. When later confronted about this he became quite agitated and belligerent and tried to provoke a physical altercation. From observing his prison yard behavior and foul language I would have to surmise he was deported from the usa after a being incarcerated. The hotel should do better background checks on their employees. It's hard to believe a well known international brand like best western could be run like this. One of the worst hotel experiences ever.

Yelp
Pros: Room was clean and air conditioner worked well. The room type we got was great - it had a balcony patio with a sliding door, the patio had chairs and tables and lounge chairs and had a view of the pool. The hotel has a parking lot in the back with parking for tall vehicles (we had a tall 15 passenger van. Cons: Our room had no hot water. We were forced to take cold showers each day. Our friends room down the hall had hot water, but no water pressure, they said the water was barely coming out of the shower head. They were not providing any maid service so thankfully we only stayed 2 nights. All in all, we might consider staying here again - if we could get rooms with working water.

Lizbeth G.

Yelp
All in all the service was good but the was not at all. We all ordered expecting good authentic Mexican food and it was not good. Don't order the shrimp!

Monique S.

Yelp
Second time in two weeks we stayed there. They are dog friendly so looked past the issues the first time. This time we can not! The hotel is old and undergoing some upgrades .. NOISEY is being nice.the maids don't clean the rooms until very late afternoon, usually after 4 pm which makes it difficult if you are out and about and come back to a dirty room. Ice is "available " but they need to " send it up" in 8 nights this happened only 3 times, it is easier to walk across the street the the liquor store and buy it. The hotel floors are dirty ! We walked barefoot in the hotel and our feet turned blackThey then charged us for damages to the towels and bed linens that resulted from this . Needless to say it was overpriced, dirty, loud and the desk staff was just plain rude. Two times once once too many .. look somewhere else if you have any expectations of a nice hotel!!!

D M.

Yelp
I want to say that this must be the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. And yes I have stayed at motel 6 back at home with my Dog. We couldn't sleep at night, the walls are thin. You can hear people watch TV late at night and snore. The A.C. is loud too. We stayed down the street at another hotel and it was less money for a better place.

Nenee E.

Yelp
After camping in San Felipe then driving to Las Cañadas for more camping we where in need of a hot shower and a BED! Driving through the little shops we saw this hotel and decided to give it a try. The price for one night (1 Queen size Bed) was $105 a bit pricey because literally down the street after we payed here we found 2 different hotels and their rates where way more inexpensive at $29/night Anyways here the staff is friendly very helpful and bilingual. The room was nice it had its own kitchenette however the mini fridge did NOT WORK and therefore our drinks remained at room temperature and the worse part is we had bought raw scallop and shrimp to cook and unfortunately we had to throw away.

Daniel V.

Yelp
Doesn't mention pet fees when booking, pet policies on the website and through booking are completely different upon checking in. The staff is rude at the front desk. Charged me multiple fees upon checking in that were not listed when booked and room was paid for in advance. When I said cancel the reservation since what was agreed upon when booking the room was completely different when arriving they could not help me. I stay in Ensenada for weeks at a time, sometimes months at a time and will not be returning to this hotel in town. They take advantage of out of town guests.

Vivian U.

Yelp
Beautiful rooms, with wet bar, with a mini fridge and so comfortable has air conditioning, the decor is like a rustic mission and the town reminds me of laguna beach, the best is that it is right in the center of it all. If we walked one way all little bars and art galleries and if we walked the other way lined with restaurant and wine shops.

Becky G.

Yelp
FOR REAL BED BUGS. I Never write bad reviews and I've actually stayed at this hotel more than once. Room 405 - Saw bugs on the bed late into the first night but thought it was small cockroaches so I just killed them and thought not much of it since "it's just Mexico" NOPE Woke up with HORRIBLE bites all over my neck, wrists, legs. Horrible burning bites. Wifi doesn't work, TV didn't work. I'm a Best Western Platinum member and have stayed at BWs all over the world. They are suppose to upgrade you with my membership - they literally stuck us in the worst room they had. I get that "That's Mexico" But then you CAN'T charge this much for a room. I don't even pay this much in the US to stay at BW's and they usually supply breakfast too. I also didn't complain because there's absolutely NO WAY they don't know about the problem. It's 2 days later and I am still is physical pain. I have probably 30-40 bites on me and SAW THE BUGS. I didn't google what they look like until we left and yep - 100% Full Grown Beg Bugs.

Yelp
Our only bad experience in Ensenada was eating at El Cid. The food itself was extremely mediocre, and I strongly suspect the leader was running back to the kitchen to get things together to bring to the table. C minus at best. But the real problem is that they did not tell us ahead of time and only cash was accepted, which meant that my friend had to take a 45 minute excursion, walking around town looking for an ATM. The bill itself seemed extremely high, and $71 is a lot for two people to spend on dinner and ensenada. I'm very mediocre Mexican food and an extremely cheap bottle actually and wine that was supposed to have been Mexican but it wasn't. But what my friend was looking for an ATM I reviewed the bill, and came to the conclusion that their addition was as bad as their cooking, and that they had added on an extra 400 pesos (20 bucks) through either bad intentions or very bad math. There are lots of good places to eat in ensenada, but this is definitely not one of them.

Danny P.

Yelp
This place really has potential to be a great vacation spot but it really needs an updated look, the bed was hard, almost was not able to sleep in it thankfully I brought extra blankets to cushion the bed, the shower had Luke warm water and I'm being nice by adding warm, forget about watching TV no cable and the local channels did not want to appear on the TV so that was a bust. Although it was cold we wanted to go swimming and was told the pool was open, well it was open but filthy and the outdoor shower was broken the whole pool area was a mess. The staff was friendly but when the person came to the room to check the "Luke warm" water he said that it was normal temperature and they could not do anything about it. In the end I will not be returning to this place anytime soon, 3 stars for the cool kids kitchen area in the room at knee level better watch your legs.

Henry S.

Yelp
This hotel is in a great location right in the heart of downtown Ensenada. It is small and old but so conveniently located near local eats and bars. The room was cramped, the balcony railing dangerous. Rooms that open into the busy street below make for good people watching. The closet whose back opened into the bathroom was bizarre as was the knee high sink at the entry area. You will hear the other hotel guests any time they are in the vicinity. The staff was friendly and the free parking was on site.

Lala M.

Yelp
Loved the huge rooms, pet-friendly, air conditioner, security, free parking, restaurant, friendly staff, great location. Also, room had a safe, wet bar, and fridge. Walking distance to nightlife and restaurants. What else can you ask for? Maybe just more affordable would be nice, especially on holidays. They were pricey for the area but do give a AAA discount. Also, the restaurant food and service was mediocre at best.

Ariel A.

Yelp
Needs urgent upgrades, not the nice hotel it used to be. Good location, but stay some place else for the price

Amar A.

Yelp
This place is very quiet relaxing and their guacamole is delicious and creamy but I would have rather had street tacos.

Randy M.

Yelp
Such a scam. Meat was way overcooked. Very little tequila in margeritas. Waiter claimed there was a "cash only" sign on door. There was not and when asked to show sign he waffles on it.

Paola D.

Yelp
Booked through Expedia...stayed for three nights. The room was relatively clean and did not smell of smoke (yay). The bed is a bit hard and the pillows as well but the sheets were clean. We left the other day but came back and housekeeping was changing the sheets and cleaning the tub. There is a coffee maker and fridge included in the room along with a tv and cable. AC is also included in the room. The staff was lovely and very accommodating. I would recommend this place to anyone staying in Ensenada, it is right in the heart of downtown Ensenada. If music and noise bothers you, make sure you are not placed in a street view room.

Jose M.

Yelp
Great location close to shops and restaurants. Made reservations for 4 rooms a month in advance. When we got there at for 2:00pm check in we were told rooms weren't ready to come back in 45 mins. Came back an hour later and rooms still not ready had to wait till 6:00pm for rooms to be ready. All rooms where in different floors.

Yelp
Its been about a year, since our stay at El Cid,and unfortunately, this past june, the hotel was all booked up and we had to stay at another hotel close by. To start.it was such a relief to have found El Cid,after a terrible nightmare. We had staying at another hotel from hell, based on a review from trip advisor, but anyway, here are the. Pros and cons for El Cid, Pros. Very clean, compared to other hotels ,AIR CONDITIONER,is a plus+ here as other hotels lack of this, sometimes just an old rusty, rattlung fan,the free continental fan is excellent, the hotel is very private, and secluded from the noisy street, parking is private ,but limited, very nice pool, you get a rapid pass, gate, when coming back pass the border, remember request for the pass, reasonable rates, between $75-100 american dollars for a nice room, and is VERY convenient to the main strip,i.e rsstaurants, starbucks, stores, tattoo parlor, witjin walking distance,mc donalds, and seafood heaven restaurants, also centrally located but yet close to La bufadora, and the Guadalupe wine valley,La Guerrense, tostadas the best ones,i can eat about 6-8 ,and EL GUERO marisco tostadas about a block away. Did i mention my good friend Nico, bellhop guy African guy married to a mexican lady,so humble, sooo helpful, please give him a good $ tip he deserves it, now the few cons Make sure you reserve your room ahead of time,,request a room on the inside of the hotel, meaning looking at the pool, not the street side, for noise purposes, also wi-fi i believe you pay for it.,other than that.its a great place to stay, they are very respectful and courteous, ohh n dont come down on fourth of july is chaos,I hope my review helps ylpur next stay while in Ensenada.thanks for reading.

Betty S.

Yelp
Night manager, Jose, was very rude at each interaction during our stay. Neglected to mention the free breakfast or that they offer Fast Passes, then refused to provide the pass once we'd checked out. Construction commenced early in the morning directly outside our room. Bathroom had drainage issues and problems with our air con. Other staff were very polite and accommodating and the rooms were otherwise nice.

Stephan R.

Yelp
We ate at El Cid during a stop of a cruise and cannot say enough good things about the place. Fun and friendly staff, a really nice location and setup and awesome food. We did see previous, more critical reviews - maybe things were not as good then but if you come now ... great margaritas, authentic delicious food and maybe the best flan I have had.

Juan M.

Yelp
We had a reservation for Friday morning at 9 am and when we got there to check in they told us they didn't have no rooms! To come and CHECK at 12 and for sure 2 after traveling for 6 + hours it was a slap on the face ... wouldn't recommend for anyone booking ahead of time

Julie L.

Yelp
We've been visiting Ensenada since our kids were little and this weekend we decided to go back for our daughter's 30th birthday . We stayed at El Cid for the first time. We had two rooms overlooking the pool. Staff was very friendly and aimed to please. Parking was tight but there was someone there to assist us. No elevator but someone available to carry your bags at all times . The stairs are wide and tiled with beautiful Mexican tiles and a nice seating area at the top of each stair case. They are not steep and nothing to be discouraged by. The rooms are large and spacious. Very clean. Beds were firm but comfortable. Our room was overlooking the pool. The room was nice and quiet. No bed bugs or roaches. This is a nice clean hotel. It is well maintained and full of Mexican tiles and charming decor. Air conditioner worked excellent and there was a large flat screen tv. We will stay here again.

Marko Z.

Yelp
Staff is very welcoming, friendly and will accommodate asap.......unfortunately on our visit on 2/16/17 we found giant bed bugs on pillows and sheets (I have video to prove it) place is very nice but someone has gotten lazy in that department, it happens in the best of places I'd say but only if someone is not doing their job right.

Xochitl R.

Yelp
Ok!!!! 2nd time booking and all was great! Pool issue was fixed and room is same; comfy, affordable, and location. I HIGHLY!!!!! Recommend the message. Wow $40 bucks for 1 hour and it is so well worth it. My neck and back issues are so much better. Definitely best deal in Ensenada.

Charles S.

Yelp
Well, I always look for a different spot to breakfast in when I'm in Ensenada, but I usually end up here. The food is good, I had myself a spinach/mushroom omelet (they actually put the ingredients On the omelet, but it was really good). Food came superfast, the waiter is attentive, the coffee is good and is served with buttered bread and homemade papaya marmelade.

Kristine H.

Yelp
We really enjoyed this inexpensive hotel right in the heart of the tourist district. Our room was filled with art and tile made us feel like we were truly south of the border. The staff was very courteous. Our room was on the street side with the balcony overlooking a restaurant with musicians playing till about 10 PM. We enjoyed it but if you want it quieter, consider the pool side rooms. Also be aware that there is no elevator but the staff will help you with your bags if you need it. We loved the private pool with the little waterfall and plants all around. The restaurant served the best coffee we had in Mexico and the food was good. Wi-fi was free. A very safe, delightful, clean hotel.

Rafael L.

Yelp
Got this hotel room through a 3rd party site, and im very glad I did. The staff and bellman where super nice as soon as I got there. The rooms are very clean and they have free wifi. The room was fairly priced ($55 for a night) in my opinion, it may not be the cheapest hotel room out there but we got our moneys worth for why some hotels down here offer for less. Trust me I know. The best western brand is living up to its name down here, and its staff is doing a great job at that. Btw they have a pool and a spa center as well. Check this place out, either through 3rd party deal or alone.

Paul V.

Yelp
Staff super friendly and supportive. Rooms dates, but nice size. Everything was clean and presented well. Definitely will stay here again.

Maya G.

Yelp
Do not stay here !! Some of the staff are so rude. Got my passport stolen and management wanted to do nothing to help. STAY AWAY !!

Nicki S.

Yelp
For the price we paid it Would have been nice to know that they had fast passes and free breakfast. You can get cheaper rooms with patios overlooking the street. I wouldn't waste my money. Also if your traveling with pets this hotel does charge a pet fee. Most of the hotels in this area do not.

Sal M.

Yelp
I travel to Ensenada about 3 or 4 times a year and always stay at Best Western if not with family. I made the reservation on the phone a while back. When I arrived they did have my room or reservation. They didn't have my request of strip view as well which I always request and get. The first room that they put me in, had BLOOD on the curtains. Which was disgusting!! I immediately asked for a new room and refund! They promised me 10% off my total bill and I settled for a new room. The new room I got was 314 and when I went in, their were No Towels, candy wrappers on carpet and I felt like the room was Half-Ass cleaned! To top it off my wife found bugs on the counter top where she did her make up!! I was tired and did not want to re- move rooms again. I was unpleased with my stay. To top it off I was NEVER given my 10% off the total bill like I was promised. I have gone back and forth with customer service and as of Now, nothing as been done. When I called corporate office customer service in Arizona. The manager Alex was not helpful and told me they couldn't do anything for me! I can't believe Best Western treats their customers like this. DON'T STAY HERE! Is dirty, disgusting and if you are unhappy with your stay. They will do nothing for you. lol

Jeremy J.

Yelp
I would not suggest this place to anyone. The receptionist is not very kind. They don't even have a microwave to heat up baby bottles. I needed to go to the store in front of the hotel to put a bottle to warm. The price is not worth the hotel. They don't offer any kind of breakfast. Way to much for one night $107 USD of a Saturday. I don't think Best Western should lend their name to this hotel.
