Off the beaten path, but not too far! Walking around Front Street, trying to find somewhere to eat, all we were finding, was long waits! As we were walking and looking for somewhere to eat we stopped to take some pictures of the banyan tree. We could hear someone singing, and we noticed the singing was coming from a building on the corner. To our surprise, and delight it was a restaurant. The Pioneer Grill.
We walked up to a, seat yourself sign. So we picked a little table, close to the man who was singing. It was so nice and peaceful to listen to, as we decided what we wanted for dinner.
There were lots of great choices, but I decided on the fish and chips, which by the way were made with Mahi Mahi. We also ordered the calamari appetizer.
The food was great, and the prices were very reasonable. The atmosphere was comfortable, and reminded me of a restaurant out of an old movie. I bet if the walls could talk, they'd have a lot of history to share. The addition of the singer, who was singing traditional Hawaiian songs, was fantastic.
Most of the restaurants on Front Street are always busy - and loud! All you can hear are other patrons. The Pioneer Grill is only a block off Front St. but seemed miles away. It was nice to sit and listen to the entertainment, and not a bunch of other people talking.
If you're looking for a reasonably priced, casual restaurant, with great food options - give this place a try. I'm not sure if there is entertainment nightly, but it truly was a great!
