Why Foodies Are Flocking to Santa Barbara Right Now - AFAR

"A midtown, locally minded hotel tucked among turn-of-the-century homes on a quiet residential street that features an on-site café serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner; the lemon zest brioche French toast is frequently recommended." - AFAR

Every room in Santa Barbara is overpriced, this was a good balance of somewhat affordable and comfortable. The room we had was upstairs and pretty small, but was very clean and looked like it had a fresh paint job. The bed was comfortable too. The television had a tiny range of channels, and the bedside lamps had electrical outlets, but not USB ports, which seems odd. The staff was pleasant.

This is The Best, Best Western Ever. The rooms are roomy and clean. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with flowers everywhere. There are Mosaic tile accents scattered around. The pool area is beautiful as is the secret garden area with comfortable, cushioned rocking chairs. Best of all is the outdoor Finch aviary which was a wonderful surprise. The restaurant is very good too, and everyone was friendly. It is so nice to have a restaurant on site when you are too tired to go out again. It is convenient to downtown and the beach and we felt safe while staying there. It is wonderful to be able to walk the neighborhoods and see all of the landscaping. It is the best motel we have ever stayed in, in this class.

The property and room were very clean and quiet. Bedding, and towels were comfortable and seemed to be of above average quality. Additionally, the staff was all very friendly and responsive. ||However, the room we were in (2 bedroom apartment) was in definite need of an update. New carpet, bathrooms and kitchen cabinets would be beneficial and might help get rid of the musty smell that the room has. ||I would say that the room and property did meet my expectations as I do not often stay at Best Western properties.

Google
Or stay at best Western plus was one of the best everything was smooth no hiccups staff was friendly. The café was amazing. Our room was always cleaned up. Always cheerful and happy very high tone. We will be back for sure.!!!!! whoever hires people at that hotel does a really good job

Google
I stayed. here for 4 days with my wife. It is a small older hotel adjacent to downtown Santa Barbara. It is designed like an apartment building rather than your typical hotel. Everything worked as it should. The room was clean. It had a kitchen with the usual appliances. The staff seemed friendly and helpful. There was a pool that we did not utilize. There were only a few negatives. It was kind of loud late at night with some partying. We were promised sparkling wine but never saw that. The parking lot is a bit too small to easily manoeuvre. I could not find an elevator to the upstairs units. I recommend the hotel. We plan on returning

Arrived at hotel, the very nice accommodating man upgraded us to king type room. Informative and professional front of house filled us with confidence.|The room was spacious clean and well equipped, the pool and area again clean and relaxing. Dinner at the restaurant on site food very good and reasonably priced. On check out the staff again were efficient friendly. Well done all at Best Western Santa Barbara if every hotel had your approach life would be great. Thanks

Google
Beautiful hotel tucked away in Santa Barbara. The room was updated, clean and spacious. The hotel was a central location to just about everything. Heated pool. Breakfast at the Live Oak Cafe was so convenient and delicious. The grounds and flowers were beautiful, ample parking and there was always hot coffee in the lobby.

Google
This is an attractive property recently renovated. Our room was clean and quite comfortable. The only issue we encountered was notwithstanding being told when we made the reservation that the complimentary breakfast room off the lobby would be available, it was not anywhere near ready for use. Construction can be unpredictable, but I would expect them to not give assurances unless confident the service would be there. However, front desk personnel were responsive and adjusted our bill accordingly. All in all, a good stay at a nice property. Paul & Laura Coble

Yelp
In town for one night to attend a wedding, this was a really nice stay. An older complex of multiple buildings with clean and updated interiors. Exterior hallways but with quieter noise levels than most interior rooms we've stayed in; other than some sounds coming from outdoors we heard nothing from adjoining room guests. There is also a nice balcony. The king size bed was comfortable and they do supply robes. Our room also came with a refrigerator, microwave and a safe. And if you've forgotten any needed toiletries, just call the front desk and they'll take care of you. A definite would gladly stay here again hotel.

Yelp
The hotel is going thru a remodel. Half the rooms are old and dated, and the others, better and fresh, but still, this is a motel. The customer service is very nice, and the rooms are kept clean. We enjoyed our stay, but it is in no way deluxe. 3.5 stars is about right, but I just can't bump it up to 4.0 stars. Location, location, location is the best feature. No, not on the beach, but very central right off State street. * No lobby to speak of, but 24 hour coffee and tea is offered * No breakfast included, but Live Oak Cafe on-prem is good

Yelp
Checked into this Best Western for a 3 night stay for a buisness trip. The staff were great when checking in and the hotel itself had a lovely exterior look. The resteraunt on site was great. Just note that on the weekends they close for dinner which I found a bit odd. The hotel has a pool and a bird sanctuary which was pretty cool. My room (215) was cute however the furniture was VERY outdated. The room did have some nice touches like the ceiling and glass but it just needs some updating foresure. Location wise I loved how quite it was considering you are near a hospital/medical center. Very close to the downtown area, resteraunts and the freeway. This hotel also offers free parking. Just my two cents about this hotel but overall it did the job and it was clean. Thanks for the hospitality Best Western-SB.

Yelp
A wonderful stay at a best Western in Santa Barbara and right across was the Live Oak Café with amazing food and service. The staff for best Western was fantastic. Cannot wait to go back.

Yelp
I checked in and the heater did not work in the room. Asked to be transferred to another room and they sent a maintenance man who got the heater to blow Luke warm air only. It's freezing in the room!!! And 46 degrees outside. They charge tooooo much money for these rooms in SB NOT TO HAVE ADEQUATE HEAT.

Yelp
What you need to know: Santa Barbara is a beautiful, fun, and very expensive town. And the hotels--and motels--are also very expensive. This motel is relatively inexpensive. RELATIVELY. Our room was clean. The beds were serviceable. The bathroom and shower were good and there was always hot water. We were always able to find parking very close to the room. The room had a nice TV and decent mini-fridge. There's a fairly well-rated restaurant on-site. There's also a pool and free coffee and terrific hot cider in the lobby. HOWEVER : The walls are paper thin. PAPER THIN. News flash: Your fellow motel guests don't care about you. Sorry--humans suck. They will jack up the TV volume and talk loudly early and late. You'll hear every word, every cough, every TV commercial, and every shower that your neighbor takes. I suppose you might even hear more interesting things, too. The location is decent. It's not walking distance to the water or to the fun spots on State Street but it's an easy 5-10 minute drive. It is, however, easy walking distance to the original McConnell's ice cream shop (now called Mission Street). So there are pluses and minuses. You get to decide if it's right for you.

Yelp
Approached the front desk, and I greeted the employee. Customer service was ok. The check-in process was easy because I made reservations online for the 2 bedroom townhouse. Parking was a huge issue. You would think having a 2 bedroom townhouse for the wkend you would get 2 parking passes. NO. The employee hesitated about parking on the street. I had to see why, sign posted only 90 minute parking allowed on the street. We received room #248; facing the street. Upon opening the door you are at the stairs upstairs, and to the left is the living room. 1 full bathroom upstairs to share. Half bathroom on main floor. Townhouse was clean. Kitchen w/ all amenities. Little patio area included. Issue we had was the bed. Mattress was extremely hard ( bedroom facing the stairs) ; not good for 2 people who just had surgery. 2 bedroom also had a bad mattress that was uneven causing the person to role to the middle of the bed. We were all extremely exhausted by the end of the wkend from lack of sleep. Also, if you have knee issues or are prone to fall, dont recommend townhouses because stairs are extremely steep. I am prone to fall, and a couple of times, I almost fell. I dont recommend townhouses due to limited parking, but importantly, mattresses are in dire need of replacement and steep stairs.

Yelp
Encina Lodge is wonderful! Hector and Mo went above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed. I couldn't remove the blouse I'd worn and Hector was kind enough to not bat an eyelash to help me out of me, by simply pull my sleeve down to wear I could remove it. This was done with other guests could witness that he was not inappropriate. I would recommend this hotel to anyone!

Yelp
Our second time staying here we love the hotel only thing this time the bed was very hard at 9 o'clock in the morning the day we checked out a very loud sanitary truck was pumping outside of our window #253

Yelp
Really enjoyed our stay at this clean, comfortable mid-budget motel. Plenty of parking and front desk was efficient and helpful. Didn't try the pool area but a few families seemed to be enjoying it. A large birdcage on display with lots of colorful feathered friends, cute but I'm not a fan of caged animals. Restaurant on site, too, but we didn't try it. Walkable to all the State Street shopping/dining, but a long walk. Instead we drove several blocks closer and found street parking. Very good accommodation option in trendy, busy SB.

Yelp
TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE by Mark the manager and his rude assistant Helen. My bill for three nights was over 2k. I don't have a problem paying that for a two bedroom townhome in Santa Barbara. What I do have a problem with is the extra $50 and $30 charges for what they are saying was for vomit on the floor and vomit on two pillows. It never happened and I asked for proof Mark said he had pictures but Helen said Mark doesn't have pictures and she hung up!

Yelp
My husband and I are retired and love to travel. We especially love road trips up and down the West Coast. Santa Barbara is lovely, but quite expensive. This motel is reasonably priced for the location and the amenities it offers. We appreciate the on site restaurant and have had good experiences there. The Poolside Suites, which we prefer, come with a small kitchen, the best feature of which is the refrigerator. On road trips we generally travel with a cooler and need somewhere to keep food cold at night, and also a place to refreeze ice packs. As usual, a frequent issue with Best Westerns is the lack of an elevator. It's hard for us older folks to lug all our stuff upstairs. But they can't always give us a downstairs room even if we request it in advance. The rooms would benefit from a refresh, especially the bathrooms, but also the sofas and chairs in the suites. We have stayed here three or four times and overall we like it and will certainly stay here again.

Veronica C.

Yelp
We stayed for 2 nights. The water pressure was down to a trickle in the shower. The parking was in short supply if you returned after dinner. The room needs an update. We will not be staying there again. Which is too bad as Best Western has been our go to for a few years now when we travel.

Yelp
Pros: good price and like the option of having a separate bedroom, especially when traveling with kids. The property and neighborhood are nice. Cons: outdated bedrooms. I saw some nice pictures online but I guess not all rooms are updated. The couch has a weird smell and the bed is small and sinks in the middle...very uncomfortable. I recommend if you're on a budget, but I wouldn't stay here again.

Yelp
First of all, we got there because we have family who works for the same company. I also work at resident business so I've been working my whole life. We got there trying to get a room. I was trying to do my reservation online but can make it so we walk in to the hotel I'm gonna do like a bath review about the employee who made my reservation but it wasn't too nice with me even look at me. She don't even say good afternoon or good morning to me so it was a little bit disappointed because you know I like to feel that warm welcome when I walking to a place where I'm gonna stay or to a place where I'm gonna eat or to a place where I'm gonna drink, you know not against anybody, but I know you guys talk to people and let them know that everyone is the same becomes to spend money and businesses trying to support, but I was really disappointed with the attitude of the employee

Yelp
Decent neighborhood but this is definitely not a three-star hotel. This is a two and a half star hotel/motel. My room was clean but had a musty odor and it looked like an old apartment complex that was converted into a hotel. The staff was nice the pool was clean and the grounds were well kept. Bathroom was clean and the sink and tub drained well. Plenty of hot water. Walls and windows are paper thin just like other reviewers have said. It's not a Hilton or Marriott but it's adequate.

Yelp
Where do I start? We stayed here at the beginning of November (2023) for a company retreat and extended our stay by two days on our own dime to take a mini vacation afterwards. The staff was nice from the get-go but the room was incredibly run down for the price. I've attached pictures: the carpet was old, the upholstery on the chair was old, the wallpaper was peeling off the walls. What's more, there looked to be black mold on the ceiling. You can see all of this in the attached pictures. The keycard was temperamental from the very beginning. They warned us about keeping the keycards too close to credit cards, but I've never had this problem at any hotel before. In any case, even after isolating the keycards, we had to had to coax and wheedle the door quite a lot to get it open. Then one day, the problem magically disappeared and the door opened every time. I was relieved - until I found out that the reason the door opened every time was that the lock had simply stopped working and we were leaving our door completely unlocked the entire day. When we informed the front desk about this, they sent someone over. It was 10pm and after futzing with the door for ages, the maintenance guy told us we'd have no choice but to relocate to a room all the way on the other side of the complex. We were exhausted and there was no offer to help us move our stuff, so we decided to just cross our fingers the next day and barricaded the door with the sofa as best as we could. I asked why he couldn't just replace the door with another door and he said he didn't want to make too much noise for the neighbors. The sink drainage was sluggish from the beginning and this foul smell came out of it, but it was tolerable. The drainage got progressively worse during our stay and as luck would have it, completely stopped draining on the night before we were to leave the next day. The same maintenance dude came back and futzed with the sink to no avail. He removed the bottom drainpipe, put a bucket under it, and the most horrifying foul stench came out of the bathroom after that. He took at toilet plunger, put it in the sink (Lord knows where that plunger had been) and started plunging the sink like a demon, with foul, black water splashing all over our toiletries. Finally in the end, he gave up and said he couldn't fix it, so we slept in that foul-smelling room one more night. My wife has asthma and between the mold and the stench, got a really bad asthma attack that lingered on for about a week even after we got home. They refunded us one of the two nights and I didn't have the energy to do battle with the front desk to get my other night back, although I feel that was the least they could have done under the circumstances. Throughout this ordeal, the front desk staff were incredibly polite, helpful and friendly the entire time, graciously supplying us with a steady stream of bottled water throughout our stay, giving us a meal voucher for the restaurant because of the door issue, and being generally nice humans. One of the front desk guys copped a tiny bit of an attitude while my wife was venting, but he was the exception. I thought of adding an extra star for this reason, but I'm incredibly annoyed about how toxic this room was. Despite the friendliness of the staff, I'm kind of dreading our next company retreat because of this hotel.

Yelp
Highly recommend; this modest place is full of charm and good people. Restaurant is great too!!

Yelp
We were offered an "upgrade" from a room with 2 queens and a sofa to a full apartment. The apartment had a very, very strong musty scent which is an indicator of mold. The carpet, furniture, kitchen and bath were very old and were probably the source of the mold. We were offered another room with 2 queens. Also had a musty smell, old carpet and bathroom. We were offered yet another room with a king (the only ones updated) or another old room with 2 queens. We took a hard pass and drove home a day early. No hotel should be renting room in this condition. Mold poses is a serious health hazard. Please do not risk your health and stay at this hotel. I'm not the first to have this complaint.

Yelp
Great location and restaurant with an amazing bakery. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Love the aviary! It's a shame that this corner poolside one bedroom room with kitchenette is in such desperate need of updating. The keurig and direct tv is the only indication that I did not wake up in 1992. Hopefully the lovely people who work here will be blessed with a makeover soon.

Yelp
This is such a lovely older hotel. Very quite. The staff are superb. Grounds and rooms are immaculate. Wide variety of rooms from simple to kitchens. Very comfortable stay. Outdoor seating areas. Coffee, tea and fresh fruit around the clock. Beautifully kept.

Yelp
For the price and the location, this definitely deserves a 4! I only stayed here for one night while visiting a friend in town. I like that there are only 2 floors, the staff was very friendly and as mentioned the location is pretty ideal. I will say there parking is very interesting, there were plenty of spaces (and that's only because they allow one space per reservation). You can park in this small "underground" lot, park above wherever you can find a space, you can park on the street (if you can find it), and the staff did mention they share the lot next door where the bank is located (however, I was still a little nervous my car would have been towed). I had a room with two beds, it came with a couple of large chairs, extra bedding if needed and some goodies! (included were fruit, snack bars, and water). The hotel is a bit outdated (could use a little bit of paint), but the room had tons of space. I like how the bathroom is towards the back wall- too many times the bathroom is right next to the front door (which I never understand) and I like how they have the sink separate from the toilet/shower. The one thing I wasn't much of a fan of is how the sliding door that goes to the outside is so close to everyone else, there isn't really any private space or outside patio. Overall, I would definitely consider staying here again, it had everything I needed.

GISELA A.

Yelp
Pretty, clean, nice staff, affordable restaurant on site- wheelchair accessible, parking on site- will definitely return-

Yelp
My husband and I needed to get away after the hustle of the week before Christmas - and we wanted to try something new. My husband also encountered some health issues and we were quite stressed. I prefer to call when considering reservations, to see how friendly and accommodating the staff is. I initially spoke with Jarrod and Paul and was very impressed. I was asked questions so they could ascertain what we are looking for, and put us in a brand new upgraded room, downstairs and by the pool. When we arrived, we were greeted by Paul, Michelle, and later met Catherine and Helen. Everyone went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. I had just had a birthday, and they gave us a complimentary bottle of wine. It was going to be a cold, rainy (which we love) week, so we weren't too concerned with the noise of kids in the pool. The pool was heated so while there were some swimmers, with our patio door closed, we didn't hear anything. The room was spotless; the bed very comfortable. Water pressure was great and there was plenty of hot water. At night, we enjoyed the view of the pool and the subtle lighting. It was very peaceful and actually, romantic. The restaurant on property was very convenient, and the breakfast quite good. The finch aviary was a pleasant surprise. We will definitely be going back.

Yelp
What a great find! Rooms were nice and clean and spacious and quiet. Had to drive to town but it's a short distance. Room prices are affordable.

Anna M.

Yelp
Housekeeping left 1 robe in the room when we checked in and then accused us of "stealing" the "second one" when we checked out. If u end up staying here make sure there are TWO robes in ur room otherwise the lady at the front desk will call u after u check out and accuse u of being a thief.

Yelp
We arrived in Santa Barbara for a college graduation & we all stayed here, it was just for 1 night but its a really cute hotel, the beds & pillows were super comfy, we had to leave early so we couldn't check out breakfast, several family members checked out the bar friday night
google avatar

Jimmy N.

Yelp
I'll say this, it's clean and parking was pretty stress-free. The decor and all the amenities in the rooms are very dated, but at least it was all pretty clean. We stayed close to where the housekeeping and maintenance staff store their stuff, so there was a lot more activity than I would have normally liked outside our room. If you're looking for a place to stay for a night, maybe 2, you could do a lot worse.
google avatar

Jessica F.

Yelp
Jesus at the front desk was very accommodating and professional! They are very lucky to have him working here!
google avatar

Yelp
Four night stay at this hotel. The staff was excellent upon checking in. My room was upgraded to a very large room with L shaped sofa at one end of the room. Neighborhood was lovely and convenient. Parking (free) was great. The down side was really drafty windows (louvers) and freezing cold tile floor in entry area and bathroom. I had to keep the heat on in Santa Barbara. Housekeeping was non existent (??) and nothing got replaced - coffee, bottled water, etc. For $400/ night I don't think it's worth it!!
google avatar

Andy H.

Yelp
We were offered an apology and free complimentary nights .... I would never step a foot in that place again ... the manager denied the fact that they may have sprayed our room with pesticide while we were inside, I called the ask for the name of the pesticide as I am currently sick , I want a refund , the charge was disputed with my cc company

Yelp
What I really liked about this hotel was the tea and the coffee that are in the lobby. I really liked the mint tea that they had. The Good morning coffee was also really delicious. I really also liked how when the hot tub was cold that the front desk sent someone to adjust the temperature of the hot tub.

Yelp
Super convenient location if you're wanting to stay in the upper State Street area. Walking distance to pizza and ice cream (Mission/McConnell's) so that's a plus. The room we were in wasn't the most up-to-date and the window was actually busted letting cold air in during a SoCal "winter" evening but it was fine. The staff is super friendly and helpful so that made the stay even better. And yeah, who knew that the restaurant connected to the hotel was so good. It's the last thing you'd expect from something connected to a Best Western but check out the reviews, it's legit! We didn't get a chance to try breakfast (which looked amazing) but we took 2 big families full of kids there for dinner one night after a long day out and everyone was super happy with their food!

Kaylee R.

Yelp
Staff were incredibly friendly and kind. The room was very clean and orderly. Residents also very kind and relaxed. It was a great experience and would stay there again.

Kimberly Z.

Yelp
Update: The general manager reached out to me, and the hotel has given me a partial refund for my 5-night stay. I appreciate the staff's persistence to make concessions for my negative experience (the manager called me 2 consecutive days after I missed her calls & Lee, the evening receptionist, gifted me a bottle of champagne after I notified her that housekeeping hadn't come for the 2nd night in a row after I requested both days). I hope that future communication between the front desk & housekeeping staff is improved & that any maintenance issues can be resolved in a prompt manner. I encourage any future guests to reach out to the staff or write a review if they're experiencing any problems because they seem receptive to feedback. Best of luck to future guests at this hotel! Original Review: My experience thus far has been lackluster at best. The hotel established that housekeeping would need to be requested and would start after 2pm post request. I requested housekeeping the 1st day, and they came at around 11am when we were still in the room. We had to rush out to let them clean. The 2nd day, I requested housekeeping from the front desk, and they didn't even come. Furthermore, one of the nights there was a power outage and the room became a sauna. We slept horribly due to the unbearable heat and poor air circulation (no opening windows in the room) and learned that this happened to the entire building we were in. The problem didn't get fixed until almost noon the next day. I wouldn't recommend others stay here, but for those who do select this hotel, I hope you will have a better experience than mine. Thanks for reading!

Yelp
Loved the hotel, it's adorable. So convenient having the Live Oak Cafe right there, the food was delicious. The staff at the hotel and cafe were very friendly, loved the aviary and that the hot tub was separate from the pool area. AC worked great, room was clean, only downside was the bed was uncomfortably hard and no backup toilet paper. A great location, very easy to get to everything we wanted to see during our trip in Santa Barbara.

Yelp
Clean, convenient and the staff is so wonderful! Our friends canceled the last moment, so they were super understanding and didn't charge us a cancellation fee. We stayed for 1 night in a smaller room, enjoyed the pool and a complementary bottle of champagne from Edith - this girl is the best! She recommended us an awesome bar "Wine Theory" and we had a blast Their Perch Cafe with a big outside cage of finches- is a gem (can watch those birds all day!) the menu is superb and I looooved their coffee, mellow and delicious thank u for our excellent stay!!!

Yelp
So initially I was hesitant due to previous stays at other Best Westerns in other cities but, this being Santa Barbara, I was very surprised and pleased with all I experienced during my stay on our Family Location. My family party was large about 35 in total and we arranged a 12 room plus two suite room block with the Sales Coordinator Jesy Johnson. She mad this whole stay so easy and there were next to no barriers during our visit. The coffee in the labor was fantastic. The in-house restaurant was convenient. The rooms were clean and well appointed for the brand. And the hotel was kind enough to place all our family into one area of the hotel so it felt private and comfortable the entire visit. Even the other guests were pleasant which I appreciated as we could be quite loud at times. This really did set the right tone for our trip. The location is in the middle of a residential neighborhood and about 10 minutes away from all the best things to do and see in Santa Barbara. A big thank you to the wonderful Front Desk Team and Housekeepers who really made us feel taken care of and welcome during our family vacation!

Yelp
We stayed in a 2 queen second floor room 4 nights in June 2021. Beds were comfortable but room is very small, we felt cramped. The second day I asked for the room to be serviced and they did not come but did come the third day by which time we had run out of toilet paper and towels. I think they are under-staffed. I hate the grab and go breakfast!

Yelp
This review is for the wonderful Ryan N at the front desk and reservations. Ryan was fantastic, kind, compassionate and patient. We had special requests and he was accommodating with all our requests. The entire staff at this location is top notch and our family looks forward to returning to this location. Thank you Ryan N.

Yelp
Ok so I gave one star because there is no option for zero. We visited first time Santa Barbara this long weekend. We did our research and find out this place because we wanted to stay near downtown area. Only good thing about this place is location which is undoubtedly super. It's near all the good places. Let me start about this property. We booked suite. The rooms are really tiny and old. Windows are not well insulated. Room got really cold in the night. Even though weather was not that cold. We have to on heater on full speed. Which was so loud. Ants everywhere. Kitchen bedroom bathroom. So many ants around the bed. Bathroom have no ventilation, no window no exhaust fan. I have no wors to explain. This place is just horrible. Please don't waste your money.

Yelp
Its the little things: Table wobbles, sofa smells funky, not enough pans, WALLS ARE PAPER THIN! You can hear everything from all sides. If anybody so much as walks around upstairs trust me...you hear stomping. There is NO WATER PRESSURE when u turn shower on. Bathtub Faucet works fine though. The restaurant's food is pretty pitiful and the Directv Doesn't work right. Slooooooow internet. I was there for 3 weeks bouncing off the walls with no tv. And slow internet. How would u like to watch every other 5 minutes of a movie? I saw this a lot ... "Searching... if you are experiencing inclement weather, please standby. If this problem persists, call the front desk." I called front desk and the guy shows up and fiddles around and then says it's not working. Yeah duh Other than that it was okay

Yelp
Stayed here for two nights and had we not been upgraded to a suite my review would be less mixed. The good - we were upgraded to a suite (we were not told why), and did enjoy having a kitchen. The suite was a little outdated but clean so that was a win in our book. The staff was very friendly and helpful and there is always parking and the hotel is adjacent to a good cafe. What could be improved - the windows are extremely old and do not insulate the rooms well / a couple were broken in that they wouldn't close shut. Luckily we're in SoCal and so the room was not unbearably cold at night. The main issue is that the window right above our bed was seemingly broken in that it would not close (hence it being cold at night) and as such, the mornings were super loud both nights, starting at 7 am. First morning we woke up to the dumpsters behind our room being emptied very loudly. The second morning we were awakened by a crew of people doing maintenance right outside of our window, also super loud (we were on the 2nd floor and they sounded like they were right outside our window). The bed was also the most uncomfortable bed that I've slept on to date. My partner who can sleep comfortably on the floor was even complaining about how the bed was sunken in in the middle making it very hard to sleep. Overall we probably will not book here again due to the sleeping issues above

Yelp
I am rating 5/5 all because the excellent customer service I received from Michelle over the phone. She was so kind, personable, patient, and helpful. I had a very complicated group of reservations and she was able to make it happen with no hesitation. She even checked in with her staff to accommodate a concern I had and they did with no issues. Michelle and the hotels willingness to assist with the accommodation makes the high nightly rate so worth staying here. I was just in awe with how easy she made the process. Kudos to Michelle. She definitely needs to be recognized by higher management! Thank you Michelle!!

Yelp
Wow - the pictures on Yelp are EXTREMELY misleading. We booked this hotel for the sole fact that we could sleep in a separate room from our toddler. We asked for a Pack n Play beforehand and were told it would be in our room upon arrival. It wasn't, so we called the front desk and asked for one. We had to call three times. Two hours later it appeared. The hotel room itself had lime green, stained shag carpet. We all stayed in socks and shoes because it was so grimy. The walls were mirrored, and the furniture was old and sticky. Clearly no money has been added to this hotel since 1979. Seriously so gross and so outdated. We checked out as soon as we woke up because we (unfortunately) couldn't wait to leave.

Yelp
Great hotel in santa barbara. Comfy rooms reasonable rates friendly staff. There is a nice restraunt on the property where the owner makes all the desserts themselves. Great food good coffee and a quiet location. Give it a try

Yelp
We stayed for 3 nights here. The hotel was old and did not smell very good. There needs to be better ventilation for the bathroom. There were also ants in our hotel. The pool was nice. The restaurant that is part of the hotel has a very good breakfast and dinner. The food was the best part of our stay. Sorry we would not come back.

Yelp
Bottom Line: Awesome staff If i've said it once, Ive said it a million times - effort shows and lack of effort sticks out like a sore thumb. Its clear right from the off that the people who work in this place actually care. Sometimes things dont go as planned or mistakes occur but its what happens after something like that is what matters. The facility is nice but its a hotel - they are all fairly similar as they are supposed to be - its the people at the end of the day that really makes the biggest difference and the people that work here are fantastic.

Yelp
This hotel is a great place located about 5 mins from downtown sb and state street. This hotel is definitely set back into a neighborhood though, so if you want bustling nightlife right outside your door this might not be your place. It's set up almost like a little village, with multiple buildings. There's a cafe/restaurant, pool, hot tub, lots of outdoor lawn chairs for sitting, and bird cage. Parking is easy and the staff is friendly. It worked out great for us because we were working in the state street area. I wish that the ceilings were a little bit thicker, it's rare that I hear people above me at hotels, but I could definitely hear footsteps from above during my stay here.
