There are so many reasons for this low review. First, there are no elevators, so if your room is on the second floor, plan on hauling you luggage up the flight of stairs. Not the worst thing in the world, but if you have heavy luggage, or in our case, mountain bikes, it's definitely inconvenient to lug it up the stairs. Once we got into our room and closed the door, we noticed that the back of the door was covered in some kind of sticky substance. It looked like someone splashed a Coke or something, but it obviously hadn't been cleaned by house keeping. We called the front desk and someone came and cleaned it, but if house keeping missed that, it makes me question how clean the rooms actually are. During our stay, any time we were watching TV, the TV would regularly go black and "No Signal" would flash on the screen before the picture would return. Also, when taking a shower, the water pressure was constantly dropping, and at one point the water flow completely shut off for a few seconds. It was like any time anybody in the building used their water, it affected my water pressure. Finally, when we came back after being gone all day, the room had not been cleaned at all. The trash was still full, and the floors were still messy from the stuff that was tracked in during the snow storm the night before. When my wife went and asked the front desk about it, she was told that the hotel's policy is that they won't clean rooms unless the guest is in the room when house keeping knocks and gives explicit consent for house keeping to enter the room and cleans it. I honestly don't know if this is an actual policy, in which case it is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Do they actually expect guests to wait around all day for house keeping to come by. If it isn't actually a policy, then it was a really lame excuse by a lazy clerk to cover for house keeping screwing up. Either way, I have never been less impressed with a hotel. I'll wrap this review up by saying we will never stay here again, and would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
Follow up:
After reading the Best Western's response, I called to clarify the cleaning policy. According to the person with whom I spoke, our room was not cleaned because we had a privacy sign up. When I said that we did not have a privacy sign up on Saturday, the day in question, the manager proceeded to argue with me, saying the she guaranteed that the sign was up. Since I was the one who took the sign down on Saturday morning before leaving for the day (it was up on Friday), I assured her it was not up when house keeping came by. So her effort to make it right was to argue with me and tell me it was my fault. The even more frustrating issue was that we were told by two different clerks, one on Saturday night and one on Sunday morning when checking out, that the policy is not to clean rooms unless the guest specifically requests the room be cleaned. It does not appear that this is actually the policy, but brings into question the training of the staff. After my call with the manager, I stand by my initial review and do not recommend this hotel.
