14 Stellar Spots to Sip Wine in Vancouver and Clark County, Washington | Eater Portland

"Bethany Vineyards grows pinot noir grapes as well as twelve other varietals that thrive in Southwestern Washington’s cool climate like cabernet, barbera, riesling, and gewurztraminer. New wines spend short time in new oak before they are poured into a neutral oak, where they are aged two years or more. The well-manicured grounds with sculpted topiaries and a placid pond create the ideal setting for ladies in loose floral dresses and long-brimmed sun hats to sip wine from long-stemmed glasses while grazing on cheese boards, salads, and sandwiches." - Rachel Pinsky

Google
$15 per shot-flight of 6 wines that are unfortunately undrinkable. You can pick white or red, but you’ll be disappointed either way if you know wine. The staff is friendly, the grounds are nice. The vineyard seems well-tended, but the product itself, the wine, is the worst wine I’ve had in Washington. Such a pretty and calm location, with seating inside and outside, a covered dock, fish in the pond and a chill goose for company.

Google
Really beautiful vineyard/winery in Northeast Ridgefield. One of the few real wineries around where they actually grow, make and bottle their own wines. Great tasting room with samplers, bottles or just glass fulls of many red and white varieties. The grounds are the most impressive in Clark County with its own lake and many locations to sit, relax and sip on some fine tasting wines. Food available in the tasting room.

I love this winery! This is my third time visiting from the East coast and it has been great every time. The wine selection is terrific, the food is amazing, the staff are friendly, and the atmosphere is very relaxing. This is the only winery I have visited in the area because there is no need to go anywhere else!

First visit and my gosh was I happy I chose Bethany Vineyard & Winery. As soon as I walked I was warmly greeted. I grabbed a delicious bottle of wine and some lunch and headed to the floating patio. What a wonderful, peaceful afternoon! The grounds are immaculate, the staff was pleasantly amazing and the food was yummy!!!

Google
What a wonderful experience and beautiful location! We pulled up to taste some wine. Before we went in, I wandered off a little because the place is gorgeous!! Upon getting to the door, we realized it was locked. Fortunately, a gentleman was chatting outside with some folks and he informed us the tasting room Was sadly closed for the harvest. However, he inquired where we were from and soon found out we were from TX and he was more than happy to let us in to try some (little did we know we were talking to the owner). He insisted we come and try and he didn’t mind. Who could say no to Walt! We enjoyed several tastings and in the process had another couple who was in search of wine as we were and they joined us inside as well. Walt is a great, kind soul. We loved chatting with him and just getting to know him as much as we loved the wine. Highly highly recommend the place not just for the beauty, the delicious wine, but also just the entire experience. Walt loves what he does and it shows. Thank you again Walt for an amazing time we won’t forget!

Google
We have been going to Bethany for about 3 years now. For us it is more about the beauty of the property and how kind and friendly the staff is. The wine is just ok and overpriced for its drink ability. The company that sells food overcharges for very simple and small charcuterie boards. We used to come out far more often but we realized there is definitely better tasting wine available. We will be back from time to time because the beauty of the grounds and the great staff are always consistent.

Always wonderful! Nice wine selection, tasty food options, and of course the grounds are the best!! Love to catch up with a friend and relax here. I always recommend this epic winery!

Yelp
Pros - Grounds were well kept Comfortable outdoor seating Cons- The wine & food are not very inspiring Not sure if it's worth the drive from PDX Service was polite and professional

Kim B.

Yelp
Beautiful grounds, great wine and food with amazing employees, thank you for making it a great experience. Just a side note if anyone is looking to take their little ones with them... Check on their policy we where told that kids have to stay inside the building.

Yelp
As someone who has been coming to (and loving) Bethany for 5+ years, today was a very disappointing experience. I have been looking forward to sharing the amazing wine and scenery with my mother and father in law on Father's Day - the scenery was great, but the wine and service were incredibly disappointing. Between the 8 of us, we got a variety of wines and flights. The whites were warm, all of the wines were full of sediment, smelled fishy, and tasted awful. None of us finished our flights, and many of us found ourselves spitting some back into the glass it was so bad. We are not picky wine drinkers at ALL, so this is very telling. This was very unfortunate because we've never had a bad experience with their wine before. Then, we had a waitress give us "warnings" every 5 minutes until they closed. We are assuming the management must have changed recently - if the wine and service ever returns to their former glory, we would love to come back, as we've loved it for so long, but today we felt unwelcome and grossed out. We will be going to one of the many other Ridgefield wineries instead in the future. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because I used to love to come here and the property is beautiful.

Yelp
This is the most beautiful winery in the area. The food is lovely, and they have a nice selection of wines. A great place to enjoy the sun!

Yelp
What a beautiful winery. Just a short drive from the I5, this winery has a lot to offer. We started in the tasting room where the owner loaded up a couple of flights for us. We took them outside to the beautiful patio overlooking the vineyard and the lake. There is also a floating patio for those that want to be even closer to the water. There is a lot of room for events here, so explore the grounds. The white wines weren't to our liking, but a couple of the reds were keepers. We did bring some bottles home, the Pinot Noir and the Barbera were both fantastic and will be great with dinner at home!

Yelp
I came to this vineyard years ago with a group of friends and had the most incredible time. 5/5 would recommend. Fast forward about 5 years I am now married and have an 18month old that I was very excited to share this incredible place with (especially since most vineyards are kid friendly). We came to the vineyard during a beautiful summer day, specifically asked before ordering if it was okay to sit outside since there was a sign that said no outdoor or lawn seating for minors under 21. We were told it was okay to be outside as long as our son stayed with us, so I ordered two glasses of wine to drink on the lawn with my husband. If it hadn't been okay, we would've gladly gone somewhere else where we could sit outside on such a nice day. Within 5 minutes of being outside, we were asked to go inside because there's a body of water on their premises.. Our son was literally sitting between us eating a pb&j on the lawn and had been within arms distance the entire time we were outside when we were asked to go inside; where it is definitely not kid friendly. *If you are planning on bringing anyone here under the age of 21, you are better off not coming or might want to reconsider. *If you are over the age of 21, or have the luxury of having a sitter/family to watch your child, this is a beautiful place to spend time at.

Yelp
I have been a member here for 11 years. The wine is great and has improved each year. My fave food there is the winemaker panini. The owner, Walt, is such an awesome human and his grandson, Eli, has taken over the winemaking. Beautiful grounds - definitely visit in summer!

Yelp
I visited this winery with a friend and had a very enjoyable time. The grounds are manicured so well. The customer service team was excellent and educated on the wines. The music playing and the ambiance was fantastic!

Yelp
Sunday 8/13 /23 Went to Patrick Lamb out door concert We came to listen to jazz music not your boring stories and itinerary . In a 2 hour time period you played less than 10 songs and talked way too much !! !! Very disappointing to say the least !! Tickets at 25 bucks a pop plus taxes .. never again !! Bethany vineyards - charging customers for Kirkland bottled water at 2.50 each .. a case of Kirkland Costco water is only 2.99 .. you would think you wouldn't want to price gouge your customers but you did !! Your wine is horrible !! Won't be back !! A complete disappointment in all areas !!

Yelp
Gorgeous property and vineyard. The wine is pretty spectacular too! Huge amount of outdoor space for comfortable social distancing and a lovely pond in the middle of the property. As for any reviews giving the place 1 star because they have limited kids area, that's really not fair to the owner/business. This is a winery and I'm thankful we don't have kids running around the property.

Yelp
A beautiful place, feeling completely removed from the real world while being surprisingly close to the highway. Both the grounds and the indoor tasting room are what you'd imagine as idyllic winery locations. And, fortunately, the wines themselves live up to the location. This is a spot that I plan to seek out again. Our first visit, not terribly long after retiring, was an experience that my wife and I agreed was the kind of thing we had been vaguely imagining as something to be doing on a weekday afternoon, once the working life was behind us. We both kind of looked at each other and said - we've arrived. Just FYI, for anyone who is exploring this area, the Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens are not far to the north, and may help round out a very pleasant detour off the highway.

Yelp
So a colleague at work, who I'd like to think of as my personal Alexa that always tells me the best local spots for anything, "twists my arm" to go wine tasting. Gorgeous week of sunshine and it seemed the time was right. I haven't been wine tasting in the region, so I trusted my "Alexa". A group of 6 of us met up at Bethany (groups of 10 or more need to make reservations). 4 of us got there first. Beautiful grounds. Beautiful location to host an event. They had Frank Sinatra Xmas tunes playing on speakers outside. Love it! Stepped into the tasting room and we received a hearty and friendly greeting. A tasting flight is $10. We're in. We slowly sipped our first round waiting for the rest of our party to arrive. The tasting included: Riesling Pinot Noir Nebbiolo Barbera Cabernet Petite Syrah I favored the Pinot Noir and Nebbiolo the most of this group. We decided some snacks were in order and ordered a cheese board and the ham & brie sliders. They set up a group of tables for us in their cellar area to sit and dine and brought the additional pours for our tastings to us. Perfect. We wanted to step outside and view the grounds and enjoy another glass and opted for a bottle of the Pinot Noir. They gave us some outside glasses. We stepped onto the floating patio and watched as the sun went down over the horizon. Great spot and I look forward to returning with guests.

Yelp
If there's anything great to take away from Bethany Vineyard, it's the stunning landscape and view of the grounds. The property is fairly large and just hidden in a way that has you feeling you are far, deep into wine country and miles from any large metropolitan. I could see this venue being a wonderful one for a wedding or special private event. The staff were really friendly, warm and generous. They were very accommodating to our family which included 4 adults and 2 kids under age six. The indoor tasting room area is a little small, even though there is a back room constructed with stone which is pretty quaint. I would definitely return without the children since the garden and outdoor patio are off limits to anyone under 21 years old. The wine tasting we did was pretty good, I enjoyed some wines over others. We left with 2 bottles that were reasonable priced and the manager even gave us an extra glass of red to toast us goodbye! It was very generous and we definitely had a pleasant experience. I look forward to going back sometime in the warmer season especially.

Yelp
Stunning location! Wine was fabulous! We were very disappointed with the interaction from the lady that took our food order. She was rude to one of us. At time of purchase she asked each of us for a tip... even though we had to come to her to have our order taken. We had to keep a eye on a table that was kinda far away which was where our food was placed. Since they didn't want to deliver that far away...what exactly would we be tipping for? When one of us who placed the order first asked if the food would be delivered... she said in a loud voice.... I will tell everyone what to expect once I've taken all your orders! It was so rude. I would love to bring my family and friends. I just had a bad taste in my mouth after being treated so poorly

Rick M.

Yelp
Not even worth one star, for the bad service. I was disappointed with people inside, we took some friends who came down from Alaska and we were so embarrassed, we had been to this winery before and when the owner was up front 6 years ago he was so nice and the staff was great then, so sad how things change for the worse. I don't know if I will ever go back! If you're in the area go to Dolio winery much better service and people.

Yelp
We were in this area for a wedding and had a Saturday to explore before the wedding. We decided wine tasting would be fun! We found Bethany winery online and it looked like a cool place. No reservation was needed for a party under 10 people. When we showed up, we were greeted and they showed us to the tasting room. All of the wines we tried were amazing and really unique. The owner was talking to all of us about the backstory of the winery and the different wines we were tasting. The Riesling was my favorite as it was cool and dry. Perfect for a summer day. We walked around after the tasting and loved the area. It was gorgeous and very open. We ate lunch on the nice patio and tried some of their food. We got the cheese plates, paninis and hummus to all share. It was delicious and highly recommended with a bottle of wine. Service was great and overall had an awesome time!!

Yelp
Service was not good We rented a spot and there were no additional things provided No one knew what they were doing Wine is not that good

Frederick G.

Yelp
Good wine, beautiful setting, terrible service. I don't like being ignored by wait staff.
google avatar

Mandy N.

Yelp
Pretty grounds but unfortunately I didn't like any of the wines. They pre pour the flight and then you go sit outside and are left alone. Also, remember to bus your own table .

Mike O.

Yelp
terrible service and even worst wine ! $15 tasting fee which isn't waived no matter how many bottles you purchase Taste's are served in small plastic condiment cups all wines tasted old and flavorless ! Don't waste your time stopping here there are plenty of better choices nearby !
google avatar

Sadie W.

Yelp
Bethany's tasting room is very modern and beautiful inside and then spacious and lush outside. The food is fantastic as well. We both liked a few of the wines each. A great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
google avatar

Kenneth L.

Yelp
This is a lovely property. We sat and had a bottle of wine with a nice cheese plate this afternoon. We sat in really comfy chairs on a floating deck on their own little private late overlooking the vineyard. The staff was awesome. The owner as always entertaining and gracius. The food was very good and the bottle of wine was deep and lucious. It is so nice to have such a wonderdul venue and winery within blocks of my house. Thanks for a great experience. ps - try the potato chip cookies. Amazingly good! Will happily go back again and again!

Yelp
Beautiful grounds and gratifying wines engender Bethany Vineyard & Winery as a convenient destination just off the I-5 highway in Ridgefield, WA. The tasting room is the place to start and sample some of Bethany's distinctive red, white, and berry wines known equally for flavor and character. The tasting fee is $10, but, if you buy a bottle, you get $5 back. Tastings are available year-round on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday plus Wednesday and Thursday in the summer. Once you taste the wines, it's time to get a glass or bottle of your favorite and head to the real beauty of Bethany: the landscaped gardens, peaceful pond, and sprawling vineyards. The setting is perfect for a relaxed meeting with friends in the large water-side gazebo or a quiet spot on a path. The stage and open grass field seem like a wonderful setting for a wedding or event, too. The only thing I didn't like about Bethany Vineyard & Winery was the food. I tried a Turkey Panini with Chips that didn't taste right or match the wines. Perhaps, a Cheese Board, Caprese Skewers, or Ham & Brie Sliders would be better options next time. As with most wineries, club members get discounts on wine purchases and if you plan on enjoying the beautiful grounds and gratifying wines of Bethany Vineyard & Winery on a regular basis, I strongly recommend joining the club.

Camille W.

Yelp
A lovely quiet place for a calm evening/noon for a perfect wine tasting day! The staff are amazing and kind! A great selection of PNW Pinot Noirs and other varieties.
google avatar

Jason C.

Yelp
I've been here a few times. This is my favorite winery in the area. All of their wines are delicious and super flavorful. I've never had a bad wine there. The folks who work there are all super friendly and knowledgeable about the wine selection. I love the grounds as well. They have just perfect places to sit and gaze upon the vines while enjoying a glass of wine. I was sad to hear that Gracie had just passed. I will definitely miss this dog!
google avatar

Angelica A.

Yelp
Beautiful, beautiful place! This was like a land locked in time, and I have never felt so serene. $10 a person for a sampling of about 8 wines, $5 back if you purchase a bottle. We had the best caprese skewers ( mozzarella, cherry tomato, mint leaf with balsamic dip and two pieces of bread) I will be back the second I can, for some more blackberry wine!
google avatar

Tiffany S.

Yelp
There are so many awesome things to say about Bethany Vineyard & Winery! First off, the place is absolutely breathtaking; very serene. Pictures don't do it justice! You have to see it for yourself. I look forward to the next couple of months when everything starts blossoming. The tasting room is very unique and chill. The owners were very helpful and friendly. They explained everything to me and my mom how it all worked. I enjoyed myself so much that I am returning today with my daughter-in-law and neighbor. I can't wait even though it's only been one day. ( ; I found my new haven!! I am so blessed as live about 2 miles from this place.

Yelp
Outstanding It's venue! Concerts every weekend on Sunday great music and food. Come and check it out!

Yelp
Lovely grounds. Lovely scenery. Lovely staff. Lovely wine. Simply. Lovely. Can't wait to go back when the weather warms up a bit.
google avatar

Jamie A.

Yelp
We had only planned on stopping for a wine tasting. But they had an amazing caterer who was serving great dishes to compliment the wine. We ended up walking around the property enjoying the vineyards and the pond. We will definitely be back!---most likely next weekend!
google avatar

Julie P.

Yelp
Beautiful scenery. Super friendly staff. Ham and Brie sliders are awesome! Wine is very reasonably priced.
google avatar

Jeff S.

Yelp
Moved into the Ridgefield area late last fall and discovered so many wineries in our backyard. Bethany has been our favorite, quality of wine and food and a staff that's always friendly.
google avatar

Donielle B.

Yelp
We were really excited to bring our daughter here to run around, however no minors are allowed outside. Only inside the tasting room. Very disappointed.
google avatar

K W.

Yelp
This is a gem of a winery. The tasting room is elegant, but laid back. Our tasting server was knowledgeable and passionate about their wines. She gave us detailed history about the varieties grown on their property. The grounds are just beautiful. We shared a cheese board that was delicious. We left with a bottle of their So Be It red blend. We'll definitely be stopping by again.

Yelp
I left Texas for some cooler weather and to have a much needed visit with my daughter who lives in Vancouver, WA. The weather was actually hotter here than it was in Texas this week. Despite the hot weather, Victoria wanted to take me to one of her favorite wineries where she has taken several of her out of State guests. Bethany Vineyard and Winery in St. Ridgefield, WA was one of our stops on my second day in the beautiful state of Washington. This well tucked away vineyard has such a peaceful setting with soft playing music as you stroll though their grounds. There is a sitting area under a shaded pergola which is where I decided to enjoy my glass of Pinot Noir. Let me do my best to describe this wine..... The owner was very friendly and struck up conversation as we were ordering our wine. His son was stationed in Abilene, Texas so he was familiar with the humidity that normally graces Texans. There are places to sit inside if you want to get out of the heat or cold depending on the weather. I was going to try their hummus, but have developed an allergy to peppers of any kind. The caterer met with me and let me know that their hummus is prepared in the same area where there is a red pepper hummus made. She did not recommend that I take the chance and have a reaction that could be avoided. Who wants to take this kind of chance when this was the beginning of my vacation? Not me....
google avatar

Melanie M.

Yelp
This winery is located on a lovely pond, has a nice selection of wines, and a decent menu. Before we left, the owner invited me and my children to walk around outside, but then another staff member scolded us for being in the area that was only for "21 and over" even though no one was around. So we left feeling a little unwelcome. Enjoyed the visit but not very family-friendly.
google avatar

Erin M.

Yelp
There is not a weekend that goes by that I do not think about their cuvee. We became wine members because of the atmosphere, the floating deck, the friendly staff and of course, Walt. He comes over everytime we visit on the weekends to catch up and chat. Very personable, so much so we always bring a friend and he will remember them! DEFINITELY RECOMMEND. You will not regret it!
google avatar

Nicole R.

Yelp
Wine tasting was $10 you try 6 different wines I think, they all were great but the first is the sweetest wine. After tasting you can by a glass which is around $6 or a bottle which is around $26. You get a $5 credit from your tasting that can be applied to your bottle perches The atmosphere was perfect, live music was beautiful and lots of shade to stay out of the heat.
google avatar

Ceci L.

Yelp
I absolutely love Bethany, If you go please do a wine sample of the red wine and white wine ,you'll end up loving so many choices they always have great service ,the owner and his wife is absolutely amazing and you always find them behind the bartop ready to help with any questions or suggestions ,not to mention the venue is absolutely beautiful if you want to have a party bridal party or even a wedding or a wedding shower love this venue is a hidden gem
google avatar

Moira R.

Yelp
This is one of the most amazing vineyards I have been to. The views are absolutely incredible and the ambience is unparalleled. I can't drink red wine, so my husband and I decided to skip the wine tasting and buy a bottle of their sweet Riesling to drink outside. They have plenty of seating outside, but the best place to sit is on their floating patio, which is a large wooden pergola/deck that extends out over the lake. It has plenty of outdoor furniture so you can relax and take in the views. You have views of the lake on one side, and the vineyard on the other three sides. I cannot think of many other ways I would rather spend an afternoon than enjoying a bottle of wine on this patio. The owner also came out to visit with us and was so nice! He talked with us for a good 10 minutes about the vineyard, their wines, and the lake. I would highly recommend visiting this vineyard, even if you have to drive out of your way to do so. It is well worth the effort of getting there!
google avatar

Gail L.

Yelp
If you want a view, it is spectacular. The grounds are spacious and beautiful. Our party of 7 adults and 1 infant bought wine and food. The infant, even though he was quiet and cared for, was "against policy" and we were" nicely" harassed 3 times by the employees to keep the child off the grounds and bring him inside the tasting room. You don't plan an afternoon at Bethany for the tasting room, but for the gorgeous view. So our family gathering was broken up with someone holding the baby alone. It ruined the day for my daughter and myself. The "policy" was taken to an extreme and ruined our afternoon. So just beware. Although I understand a wine vineyard is not a place for children, a quiet infant with 7 adults could have been tolerated. We had no idea. The other outdoor tasting room we attended paid no attention to our infant.
google avatar

Ole L.

Yelp
Gorgeous venue! I love wine and I live in this area, yet I've never been here. The place was amazing. The wine that I tried was ok, the prices were very reasonable. I didn't care for the Pinot noir, but the cab franc was money. I would highly recommend comming to this place and checking it out. It truly is an experience. Everyone was very nice at that works there.
google avatar

Cynthia M.

Yelp
My goodness gracious, I had no idea such a beautiful oasis existed practically in my backyard. My mom was visiting from Tennessee and I wanted to show her some of the SW Washington wineries instead of driving all the way out to the Willamette Valley. Bethany was, by far, our favorite stop of the day. I could have sat outside on their amazing patio for hours. The pond and the floating deck were beautiful and I cannot wait to catch a summer concert on the lawn next year. The wines we had were pretty tasty (though I honestly can't remember which glass I had...) and the charcuterie board was very tasty. Definitely, definitely, definitely will be returning!

Brad K.

Yelp
Extremely rude staff and they do not like children for some reason. We brought our infant son in a stroller and told we had to go in the tasting room in an extremely rude manner even though it was not busy in the large open outside area. Better to go someplace else.
google avatar

Vartan V.

Yelp
What a great place to take a date, family, friends or anyone who you want to impress about wine tasting. It has a beautiful view with the pond and the vines in the background. It so sets a relaxing back yard feeling! The customer service was okay. They just poured the wine with not much of a background, history, cool facts, or even how they even make it. When I go to a winery I want to be educated about the wine or else I can get a wine at a grocery store with that type of a service. Now the wine is not bad and has some good fruit. My favorite was the riesling that was not sweet at all and that has a good dry flavor which is the grapefruit you taste. The other one was the Gracee Pinot 2012 which Walt the owner said it was his best wine and it is dam good! Great fruit forward, smooth, with a great elegant finish Salute
google avatar

Shannon H.

Yelp
No longer family friendly. Even though the ground are beautiful and large children are no longer welcome to anywhere but the tiny trasting room. Which as a member for several years now is disappointing. Needing child care to take in a tasting and enjoy the grounds is not an option for us for many years to come. I've always loved my membership here, the staff and Walt. But of the other wine clubs we have I've never had one unwelcome to families. So I'll have to cancel my membership this year. But if you're single or childless you'll love this Vinyard.
google avatar

Erin M.

Yelp
I absolutely love going here for a relaxing time wine tasting and enjoying their beautiful property with friends! It was wonderful when we could bring our kids so that's the only downside now, is kids are no longer allowed, but I understand why they went a different route. They serve great food as well and are extremely friendly!
google avatar

Greta B.

Yelp
Great wine and a beautiful place to enjoy it. Very nicely landscaped and peaceful grounds. The staff is friendly and the food is reasonably priced. We haven't been to a concert there yet, but I do appreciate that they have a "no kids" policy on the grounds that apparently (from reading the reviews) IS enforced. That's what keeps the grounds peaceful (Thank you!!!).

Yelp
Wow! I couldn't have been more disappointed with my last visit to Bethany. I've been going to Bethany's for over six years and make frequent outings for tastings. I wanted to start my daughters 23rd wine tasting birthday with friends at my favorite winery, Bethany's. Rather than tasting we purchased four bottles thinking that would be easier on the staff. We were asked to leave and go outside. Keeping in mind it was 39 degrees outside and raining. The staff were heard making rude comments about the kids in the background, as well. Unfortunately Walt was not there or I would've made him aware. I will NEVER return, nor will I recommend going there. We proceeded to Three Brothers and could've been treated nicer by the owner and he had a great time with the group.
