The Best Places to Eat and Drink in Bethesda | Eater DC

"If you are hankering for New York-style bagels, you’ve come to the right place. This family-owned Bethesda staple since 1982 continues to crank out hand-rolled everything, onion, salt, blueberry, cinnamon raisin, wheat, pumpernickel bagels. There’s always a line here in the morning, but that gives you time to pursue the cold cases and check out the other offerings from the chopped liver (there’s even a vegan version), whitefish spreads, herring and a seemingly endless array of cream cheeses from chive, lox, veggie, to blueberry and strawberry to name just a few. They also make Flagels, flat bagels, and mini-bagels for those interested in fewer carbs." - Claudia Rosenbaum

Where to Eat and Drink in Bethesda - Eater DC

"Credit goes to this shop for upping the area’s bagel credibility. The brand has since expanded across state lines to D.C. and Virginia, but the Bethesda original remains largely unchanged. Find dozens of bagel varieties with lox, cream cheese spreads, or as savory sandwiches." - Tim Ebner

My brother lives around the corner from Bethesda Bagels and we enjoyed some of the best bagels and breakfast sandwiches from here during a recent visit! Whether you’re looking for a regular bagel with cream cheese or a crazy good bagel breakfast sandwiches, this place is a must visit! Order online for easy pickup, or show up and order in person for fast service.

This is the kind of bagel place that makes you a bagel the way you really want it, with an unhealthy amount of cream cheese that we all want to indulge in from time to time. After seeing this place for years and always curious to try it out, I finally had my first Bethesda Bagels experience. I'm a sucker for a good everything bagel, covered with plain cream cheese of course, and I can't think of a better way to top it off without smoked salmon, red onions and capers. And that's exactly what I ordered at this place. I came through on a Wednesday morning, there were only a handful of people ahead of me. I hear the lines can be really long on the weekends, and after having one of their bagels, I can see why. When I got my bagel, I first noticed how heavy my bagel was. Literally, my bagel was heavy, which I knew meant they really packed my bagel - instant brownie points and it only got better. As I was unwrapping my bagel, it looked like it was on steroids. This place may be a bit pricey, but for good reasons. They put a very generous portion of cream cheese on the bagel and are equally as generous with the toppings you ask for. The verdict? Delicious. I'll be coming back and bringing people with me. The only downside is that it's difficult and messy to eat because of the sheer amount of cream cheese they put on the bagel. Even though I am obsessed with cream cheese, I actually thought there was a little too much for my liking. I am shocked that I am saying this, but it's true. At times, I realized I was biting through an inch of cream cheese! Nonetheless, I will be back!

Lately something has changed. I’ve noticed the bagels are more bread fluffy. Seems like there is more yeast cause I’ve gotten different flavors and they are not consistent in texture. Also the orange cranberry bagel is often a hit or miss. Often being made too thin and very hard in texture. I think it’s a quality control thing that needs to be addressed

I have been coming here for 25 years. Always high quality and fresh, always fast, and very reasonably priced where other places have become exorbitant. Just wish they would reopen in NW DC.

The bagel was very good. The salmon was fresh and tasty and very NYC. I wish I had more salmon than tomatoes lol. I tried whitefish too and it’s an interesting taste lol. Saturday it gets busy but it’s a nice stop to make if you’re in the area. I think I it’s the best nyc bagel in the DMV.

We walked from our hotel and found this bagel shop that was hopping on a Saturday morning at 830am. The bagels were huge and dense. We ordered breakfast sandwiches with sausage egg and cheese. They were the best sandwiches I've had in a while. We also ordered bagel dogs for lunch later and they were very tasty as well. I ordered several bagels to take home for our dinner back to PA. So tasty!!

Bagels were fresh and delicious. Ordered Everything Bagels with tomato and a side of whitefish salad. Grew up eating "water" bagels in NJ and these bagels we just right in taste and texture.
