Besty’s Is Open at Evelyn’s Park in Bellaire | Eater Houston

"Located at 4400 Bellaire Boulevard inside Evelyn’s Park in Bellaire, Betsy’s quietly debuted this week from the team behind Eloise Nichols Grill and Liquors, Adair Kitchen, and other Houston favorites, taking over the historic Yellow House from The Ivy & James at Evelyn’s Park. The interiors have been revamped with a “buttercream yellow” bar, black and white striped wallpaper from Farrow & Black, topiaries, and a vintage photo of the restaurant’s namesake — owners Nick Adair and Katie Adair Barnhart’s mother, Betsy — while picnic tables and patio chairs provide outdoor dining overlooking the park. The menu leans toward comforting eats, including steel cut oats made with maple-pecan non-dairy milk, the beloved Eloise Nichols black bean burger, and a pesto rice bowl, alongside coffee drinks, breakfast tacos, pizza, and a lengthy list of wines and beers. Betsy’s is now open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m." - Amy McCarthy

Google
We've driven by this place a few times and decided to check it out. It's next to Evelyn's Park, and has a large open seating area, shaded with games. Quiet and beautiful. The park is NOT pet friendly, and I asked the staff if the restaurant was. They said they don't mind dogs, but people still complain about it, so not worth the hassle. Breakfast tacos were delicious. Service was great. We want to check it out at night since they have alcoholic drinks too. Seems like a chill vibe.

Google
I will describe my experience in Betsy’s like comfortable. If you want family oriented it patio restaurant this is your place. A simple menu and delicious food, spacious patio sitting with nice music ideal to enjoy in a fall night in November.

Google
I went here yesterday (Sunday afternoon) for a late lunch. I’ve been wanting to try this place for a while. I ordered the crispy tex-mex salad, which was delicious. Normally these types of salads come with corn, which I’m not a fan of, but this one did not so I didn’t have to request any alterations. The salad was filling and refreshing. I also got an Agua Fresca which was also good. The service was quick and friendly. I recommend this place to families, as this is right next to an interactive park. I’m not a parent, so kids running in and out isn’t my go-to type of vibe; however, I now know to prep myself or to order to-go. Update: a few weeks later, grabbed the same salad to-go to bring back to work for lunch. Salad was disgusting; see pics for proof. (Absolutely kidding—it was still delicious🤣)

Google
Such a pretty place to sit and enjoy nice weather. Beautiful ambience. Very kid friendly with an awesome park next door. Great service and really good food and smoothies.

Google
This place is special, they have dining in and out doors. The salads are amazing, taste so fresh, plentiful if you get a protein. Nice place to have a working lunch too. The grounds are well kept, good parking, and lots on the menu.

Riah H.

Google
Park is often busy, so be prepared for bad parking and a long wait time. Knowing those two things, the food is delish! I admittedly didn’t get much, just a breakfast taco (brisket) and a smoothie. Both were very good.

Google
Being here with the kids fills our hearts with joy. The idea of ordering food and savoring it outdoors in this beautiful weather is simply magical. Sharing a meal in nature fosters a delightful atmosphere, creating lasting memories for all. The harmony of good food and fresh air elevates our experience, reminding us to cherish these moments together. Definitely 1000% recommend this BETSY restaurant.

Google
Great restaurant conveniently located inside Evelyn's park. Their fried pickles are delicious, and this is a nice spot if you want an easy lunch that doesn't break the bank, especially if you have kids. The food is however, mostly American, and made up of a lot of fried things, so not ideal health wise, but still delicious. There is a large seating area outdoors, as well as some indoor seating. This restaurant also occasionally has free music, so keep an eye out for said events.

Yelp
The place I dream of back home. We are traveling in Houston for the weekend and found this gem. It's a nice little restaurant that has amazing pops, a great outdoor place for kids to play and it's in a park. The park has a splash pad, and a trail for kids to ride bike, scoter etc. there's also a huge green grass area. We did not try the food unfortunately, but great ambiance. Definitely worth a try.

Yelp
I can't believe I forgot to post my review! This is a quaint little place that serves true treasures I've returned back twice since Dr H event to earn Breakfast Club badges. The best breakfast tacos in town are served here before noon. #1 are definitely our favorite from taco menu. My very first visit I felled in love. I even went back and purchased a couple more to go for my growing teen at home. Which I was surprised that they were still hot and satisfying once I arrived home (27 minutes away). He inhaled them both like Major Payne. Then was asking me to take him to the place I got them from. We returned only to find out they stop serving them at 12. Then return again to celebrate his birthday, and before departing for NYLT camp in Colorado to celebrate his new adventure! He wanted a really AMAZING breakfast, his Favorite, so we came here to Betsy's who serve the Best breakfast tacos. They make there flour tortillas from scratch too. You can Taste the difference. Being that we are huge breakfast family and taco Experts. We also rush here to get tacos before his photos. This is definitely our favorite taco place

Yelp
Super convenient location, lovely outdoor space with string lights, great place for families with children. Parking can be tough, but you can park across the street at the church parking lot. Food came out really fast, flavors are great, but the portion sizes are very small, it's like everything was kids sized. Same complaint for the Agua fresca, it's $5 for a tiny cup and half of the cup is ice. It's a convenient place to grab a snack/bite if you are already at the park.

Yelp
I went to Betsy's for breakfast with a large group. I was surprised to see how busy it was right after opening on a Saturday morning. The weather was nice which was great since the majority of seating is outside. They do have a small indoor seating area as well. I was hoping they would have a more extensive breakfast menu. I saw photos of avocado toast and quiche in old photos on the Yelp page. When we visited (April 2024), they only had breakfast tacos. I love a good breakfast taco, but I was disappointed that that was our only option. I ordered a Brisket, Egg, and Cheese breakfast taco. The taco was really good and I really liked the homemade flour tortilla. Unfortunately, the taco was small for the price ($3.50). There was barely any brisket in it and the brisket was cut into small cubes. The salsa was pretty bland. It was mild which I prefer, but it barely had any flavor. For my beverage, I had the Kalelujah cold pressed juice. It was very good and refreshing. They also have agua frescas, smoothies, coffee, soda, wine and beer. Betsy's has events like live music and benefit bingo. They even do happy hour from 3-6pm Monday to Friday. The parking lot directly behind the restaurant is small, but you can park in one of the church parking lots across the street if the main lot is full. There's apparently an adjacent lot on the other side of Evelyn's Park as well. I want to go back to try some of the lunch/dinner items and maybe enjoy a nice beverage under the oak trees.

Yelp
I earned my breakfast badge at Betsy's, y'all. It was a perfect day to have breakfast with my Yelp friends on Earth Day. Parking lot is small but I was able to find parking across the street at the church. I saw everyone ordered tacos. But I can't have cheese. I did wish I had tacos though. That's the cheapest breakfast item on the menu. I ordered a hot tea and a muffin. Because they don't serve other dishes on the menu. Outdoor seating was really nice for the spring weather. I would come back to try lunch menu soon.

Yelp
Love this local gem in Evelyn's Park. Nestled under the sweeping branches of the live oak trees, this is a very relaxed place to meet friends and family for brunch, lunch or dinner. The green picnic tables afford lots of options for dining. Date night. An evening out with friends. Breakfast in the park with toddlers. My daughters used to walk to the park to grab a couple of breakfast tacos, cold pressed juice or a smoothie. Lots of vegetarian taco choices, like black bean, egg and avocado or spinach, egg and mushroom. Their brisket, egg and cheese tacos are also popular. Check out their weekday Happy Hour specials from 3-6 Monday to Friday. Half off shareable plates and bottles of wine. Love the beets+citrus and cauliflower with pinenuts. Check out their calendar for special events like Thursday Grill and Music night or Live Music in the Park on some Saturdays. Play benefit bingo on Wednesday nights. Parking can be a challenge. Overflow parking is available across the street at the church. Sign up for their rewards program. Check out the Mad Hatter sculpture after you finish your meal.

Yelp
Love the outdoor ambiance here! Plenty of seating - definitely a family friendly place to eat with space for kids to run around. The park also makes it a popular destination. Parking in the lot behind it is kinda tight but parking was available across the street also. I met up with some fellow Yelpers and we had a blast! They have six different types of breakfast tacos on their breakfast menu, but only basic coffee and latte. They also had some muffins to choose from as well. I had the black bean taco and the spinach mushroom taco. I enjoyed my tacos but they were somewhat lacking in flavor. You get a ton of eggs and fillings but it needed some hot sauce/salt to boost the flavor. I heard they had a more robust breakfast menu in the past- maybe they'll bring that back sometime. Would love to come back during lunch or dinner to try their other menu items!

Yelp
We came here for brunch hosted by Helene. Far as the food it was fairly decent, it wasn't great but the ambiance and the laid back feel is the reason why I'm giving it a 4 stars. This is a family friendly Park where you can take your kids, pets and friends to enjoy a good time. You can also come here for a jog or even bring a book to read. There's an area where you can trade in a book & grab one as well. So the outside is kind of set up as a picnic area, you can bring your own food or order inside the restaurant. I decided to get their tacos. I got the sausage egg and cheese tacos & brisket egg and cheese on corn tortillas. The tacos itself needed some more flavor but I can tell that they make their tortillas in house. The brisket tacos were nonexistent as far as the brisket being there, I literally got a couple of small shredded up brisket that just looked sad. But for the tortillas itself It was one of the best I've tasted. It was hot, soft & fresh. The salsa that was provided tasted like nothing. My favorite was the melon agua Fresca, it was so refreshing that I ordered it 3 times. I will say it was expensive & it was in a little cup, but worth it. At the end all of us walked over to this sculpture of Alice and wonderland & the person who made it came up to introduce herself. She really put a lot of thought when creating this art. Overall I was satisfied considering I've read a lot of bad reviews for this spot. Parking is a challenge but you can also park across the street at the church. Service was goodish nothing to rave about but they did their job. Will I come back? Yes.

Yelp
The main appeal of Betsy's is its location in Evelyn's Park. There's indoor and outdoor seating, and your kids will love running around. Parking can be a little hard but there's also parking available across the street! The food is pretty average all-American food like sweet potato fries, chicken tenders, pizzas. The pancakes are very fluffy and portion is pretty generous. I wish they came with a little more fruit! Tip: There's live music on Thursdays and pancakes on Sundays!
google avatar

Yelp
I visited with my daughter and grandkids on a beautiful day. We loved the burger and fries. Simple but delicious. The food came out very quickly as well. Not much on the menu but it is a nice little lunch spot in the park. Of course, the park was super fun too!

Mylien N.

Yelp
Um, it's cute. The service was sweet. What I liked about it was that the park was nearby. The nacho was probably my favorite entree that I got. Fish tacos were a no-no for me. Chicken strips were tasty, and the kids enjoyed them. Brussels sprouts were surprisingly good! Also kid friendly!
google avatar

Christian D.

Yelp
The food was reasonably priced and the perfect portion size in my opinion. I got the park burger and my girlfriend got the chicken sandwich with fried pickles and we both enjoyed it! Came out in a timely manner even with a bunch of kids there. The service was standard and they helped answer all our questions. The environment was the best perk as it was a pretty evening to enjoy a dinner date with my girlfriend, who I surprised by taking her here and she enjoyed it. They also have a small beer/wine selection,

Yelp
For years I have relegated Betsy's to be "park food", similar to food one finds at amusement parks and zoos. You eat it because you're already there and it's convenient. Nothing fancy and way overpriced. However, all that changed recently when we went on an Evelyn's park streak because of the beautiful weather. I have to say, now I really enjoy the food at Betsy's! My favorites include the superfoods bowl and the pesto bowl. I also like adding grilled chicken to it, as the chicken is seasoned but not overly salty and not grilled to the point of burnt, which is a big no-no for me. The ingredients are fresh and portions are decent, enough for me with a little bit of leftover for the next day. My husband enjoys their sandwich and pizza options. I also recently ordered a build your own pizza with mushroom and kale and was surprised to find there was also pepperoni and sausage on it as well. Definitely not vegetarian, but it turned out yummy as well! This is a great place to grab a bite after some fun at Evelyn's park! Don't let it's location (in a park) fool you to think that it's not worth your tummy space and pocket book!
google avatar

Daniela M.

Yelp
The cookie Sammy is so bad the cookie is too hard so all the ice cream fell out. Froze is ok
google avatar

Kyle M.

Yelp
This place sucks, unorganized staff, the food is trash, and they messed up on most of our orders. Go get food somewhere else and bring it to the park instead, you'll have a much better time.
google avatar

Andrew W.

Yelp
Nice dining place in the park! I like the lofty environment and cozy vibe there! They have some tea and coffee as well as some sweets to treat! :) Come and feel the vibe! Cheers
google avatar

Danielle O.

Yelp
First impression was not good. There was a private event so the parking lot had two large trucks blocking the entrance. Small parking spaces so do not bring a large suv or truck. The food was good and service was quick. Water taste like toilet water.
google avatar

Martina S.

Yelp
The setting has so much potential but the food was really bad. The kids' hotdogs had a weird taste and the black bean burger was lacking flavor and texture. The queso had a burnt flavor so we had to send it back. Even the soft serve ice cream was icy and gross! My recommendation is just to get takeout and being it to the park to enjoy those amenities.
google avatar

Laura A.

Yelp
Awesome burger and extra crispy fries. Definitely coming bsck to sit under the trees.
google avatar

Jenny T.

Yelp
This place is a perfect for a family day out. There's a park next door and outdoor seating and it's beautiful. It's clean and the staff is very friendly ! The food is reasonably priced. The only reason I give it 4 starts is because the food was okay. The pizza tasted like a lunchable that was heated up. The wings were also okay. I will go again though and try different things on the menu! Very family and pet friendly !
google avatar

Ananya S.

Yelp
Fun casual place to eat - take a walk around the park it's lovely. I always get the huge breakfast taco and an iced tea. They do have a full espresso menu but the guy who made my coffee didn't know what a macchiato is and made me a cappuccino!

Sally C.

Yelp
Under new management? It's not what it used to be. I was surprised by the recent reviews that said the food was "park food" and not worth the price, but unfortunately, I would have to agree now. We've been going here for years. We have two young children, which makes it ideal on days when the weather is lovely, and it's great how the park has evolved and developed. However, Betsy's has gone downhill. We hadn't been since last fall, and the last time was for a birthday party. So, it's been several months. Please bring the old menu back! I used to love the Brussels sprout salad. There are not as many healthy choices now, and what's left was not tasty at all. I had the Super Food Bowl, and my husband had the fish tacos. The kids menu is still fine--standard American kids' fare. In addition, the staff, like other reviews mention, are not very attentive. Not rude by any means; they just seem like they don't want to be there. Our food came out at record speed, so no complaints there. But when ordering at the counter, there was a long line and three people standing behind the counter seemingly doing nothing with an open register. I wasn't sure if it wasn't functioning until one person finally asked who's next. Unfortunate. We hadn't been in a while because the last couple times there was a bee and fly problem, which is perhaps expected outside at a park, but there were still lots of flies inside today. I'm not sure we'll be back until we hear things have turned around. I hope it will. It's a beautiful, fun place!
google avatar

Tosin A.

Yelp
Popped in for a coffee with a friend and grabbed some breakfast tacos. All in all the food was good albeit much greasier than I anticipated. The environment was lovely and the staff was appropriately helpful.
google avatar

Tim C.

Yelp
My wife has been bugging me to check this photo op out. She said the food was good but the scenery at the park was very cool. They have limited indoor seating so factor in weather conditions if you plan to eat outdoors, we had a slight fly problem but I was pleasantly surprised at how good the grub was. I enjoyed devouring half of a tasty pepperoni pizza with one hand and waving away a few flies with the other, got here too late for inside seating. This is a very family friendly park. No dogs or cats are allowed per the city of Bellaire according to signage. My wife really enjoyed a salad with grilled chicken. I loved "The Nino", a killer smoothie wit' blueberries, strawberries, banana, peanut butter, honey, flax and almond milk.....We had leftovers. They do coffee drinks too, I'll get one next time. They have a water feature by the picnic tables, they have the tea party from Alice in Wonderland, sculpted. They have awesome play areas, a climbing slope with slides . Plenty of places to sit. They have wine and beer. Good food and a cool park.

Mike M.

Yelp
Neat atmosphere, and a tavern style pizza that lives up to the hype. I got one to go, but it looks like a fun spot to hit with people.
google avatar

Sharita S.

Yelp
This looks like a place only the locals know about. There were families camped out on the lawn and inside of the establishment, which happens to be in a park. I received a gift card for the place so that's how I found it. I ordered a Poboy and one of their juices. The poboy was on hoagie rolls, but it was really good. The juice was doing too much. It was very fresh but by the time I got to the end of it, my stomach wasn't happy. It was a red juice that had beets in it. Apparently it's one of the most popular drinks. I probably wouldn't return because the menu didn't really stand out to me, but it was a nice experience.
google avatar

M C.

Yelp
Sweet environment! Good food and friendly staff. Loved the outdoor sitting and the park next to it!

Brenda A.

Yelp
This was a1 know idea why it took me so long to try this delicious hide away. What a fun place, my burger was great. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu.
google avatar

Mark J.

Yelp
When the weather isn't hostile, Betsy's is a great place to grab a drink and er some food. They really need more staff on weekends to keep up with orders. Their pizza and breakfast tacos plus local beer on tap are the best parts of their menu.
google avatar

Ginny S.

Yelp
Excellent and beautiful place to host a bridal shower for my Daughter. We order drinks and a couple of cheese boards. They had excellent service. It was the prefect day.
google avatar

Pamela Z.

Yelp
I have mixed feelings about Betsy's. The venue is super cute, convenient and family friendly. The food is kind of a mixed bag. The breakfast tacos are pretty solid, however some of the other items are just not good. I had the park greens salad which was very meh. The chicken was very dry/over cooked, and the salad was not dressed right. I'm not sure if there was too little dressing or the dressing just didn't have any flavor. Also the salad could have used more pickled onions and other ingredients. I rarely say this, but I could have made a better salad at home. Also, we had a relatively big party, so kind of complicated order, but not one person got the correct tacos they ordered. They were all mixed up on different plates, on the wrong types of tortillas, and it required a lot of moving tacos around by hand and sending things back (one of my family members has celiacs and can't have flour tortillas). Things were just more complicated than they should have been. We will keep coming back here because it's convenient for us with a kid, but they need to step up their game.
google avatar

Emma G.

Yelp
I popped in for an iced coffee, which was so sweet it was undrinkable. I didn't want to request a remake, so I asked for coffee to balance the over-sweet. They professionally dressed barista wouldn't look at me or speak to me. I'm not sure if this was a once-off, but I don't want to order here again.
google avatar

Natasha N.

Yelp
The atmosphere is super cute - there are a few tables indoors and then the majority of the seating is outside in the park. The food was very expensive and very mediocre. I tried the super foods bowl, veg cubano, Brussels sprouts, fried pickles and chicken wings. Everything was meh. The only good item were the fried pickles, but for $8 I would expect to get more than literally 8-10 pickle chips. Overall I'd suggest using the picnic tables and bringing your own food, maybe just getting drinks from the restaurant.
google avatar

M W.

Yelp
My son and I took advantage of him not having to start work early today and stopped for breakfast at the park. We each had a Spinach, Egg, & Mushroom taco but I paired mine with a Brisket, Egg, & Cheese one while he paired his with a Black Bean, Egg & Avocado taco for a vegetarian breakfast. We expected the usual thin corn tortillas with the Spinach, Egg, & Mushroom. Instead, we got thick corn tortillas that reminded me of pupusas. That was unexpected and made for a heartier breakfast.

Gretchen T.

Yelp
I will never go to this horrible place again. I ordered takeout and the pepperoni pizza was not in a pizza box but smushed into Chinese takeout boxes. it looked like it had been scraped off someone's plate after they were done eating and they sold it to me for an inflated price for hog scraps. Looked like soggy vomit in a box. unbelievable. Rude employees and no one answers the phone on the website. it goes straight to a full voicemail. Health department need to evaluate this place.

Ashley H.

Yelp
Our favorite spot when the weather is nice! Great weekly specials on the menu. We've never had a bad plate of food either!
google avatar

Danny A.

Yelp
Been going there for a while. The food is fresh but the environment and staff are awesome. A great chill lunch or dinner there.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice, quaint location for midday break! Park has plenty of activities for visitors! Check their calendar to plan your day or just be surprised!
google avatar

Yelp
What a great place to either have some wine or drink mimosas while having lunch outside. Located right next to Evelyn's park.. this place is super lovely. We had a glass of wine with their chicken salad sandwich and their margarita pizza. The chicken salad sandwich was t the best.. their fries were pretty good. However, their margarita pizza was pretty amazing! I would definitely recommend their pizza to anyone. We ate outside and then took a stroll in the park. We also walked in the neighborhood behind Betsys.. very pretty area to take a stroll in. Will come back for some mimosas!!

Sandy L.

Yelp
Great outdoor dining especially with kids! I can't believe the bad reviews. Took my 9yo son to the park and he loved his $5 chicken tenders with fries meal. He could not finish the fries so I had a few which were crispy and delicious. I ordered a taco with handmade tortilla and it was delicious and fresh tasting. Added a pancake too. One of the best pancakes I have had in a long time. It was the best $2 spent. It's only served on Sundays and $2 for one and $5 for three. Next time I get 3 because they were so good. Very good selection of food and drinks. These prices can't be beat.
google avatar

Akhilesh B.

Yelp
This is a decent place to sit outside and enjoy the weather with a nice view of the Evelyn's Park. Their food is decent but nothing to die for. The veggie burger and pizza were good.
google avatar

Katie L.

Yelp
We had a delicious, light brunch outside on a beautiful day in Houston. The outdoor dining area is a nice touch.
google avatar

Shawna W.

Yelp
Usually I just come here for the ambiance but today I tried eating their breakfast! I 2 breakfast tacos. The corn tortilla was the best I have ever eaten! It was light and fluffy and the eggs where also good! Would love to return for breakfast! I can't wait until the rest of the park is remodeled! It will then be my favorite breakfast spot!
google avatar

Lgem L.

Yelp
The ambiance it's nice, the food is not bad! But the staff has to learn a few tricks on how to be nicer, not sure if it was the day we went, the waiter/cashier did not even smile at us, or offered us any options or recommendations. I'm not sure I will visit this place again.
google avatar

Yvette C.

Yelp
Super disappointed in this restaurant today. Ignored by the wait staff, asked multiple times for our pizza and was told "they could't find us." We are sitting literally in front of the door with the number as big as Dallas. The waitress just walked by and ignored us again. What the heck. We come here a lot since we live in the neighborhood - and I am about to boycott. Never have I been treated so poorly! Take heed Adair family - this is not acceptable for this restaurant or any in your portfolio. One hour to get a pizza???? Ridiculous.
google avatar

Natalie F.

Yelp
Betsy's has become my go-to neighborhood spot for a quick happy hour or working outdoors during the work week. There is usually ample space for sitting and isn't very crowded unless you come on a Friday or weekend when people are there with their kids or coming to hear live music. Their breakfast tacos are all very good, as are their pizzas. Their guacamole is quite bland, which is unfortunate considering we're in Tex-Mex country. And for being almost $7, their sangria is very weak, if not watered down. They pre-make it with ice (I'm pretty sure), then serve it with a ton of ice. Makes for a great early happy hour drink when you've gotta go back to work, but it's not worth the price. However, their soft serve ice cream is SUPER delicious. I didn't even realize they served it and it was a very tasty surprise.

Yelp
First off service is great. But if you enjoy the "good ole days" of eating dinner while inhaling cigarette smoke your in LUCK!! Nothing I enjoy more than a good second hand cigarette while enjoy the beautiful fresh air! Food 4 stars Cigarettes 1 star Rating 2 stars.

Yelp
I've been here for happy hour several times and it does fill up. During busy hours you can find extra pkng across Bellaire at the church. They have a small lot in back but it fills quickly. Walk up ordering, get a number, find a table and wait for them to bring your food to you. It is next to Evelyn's Park so very family friendly. Variety of foods and drinks- ice cream too!

Yelp
Great food, fun ambience. Perfect for a Sunday brunch with friends and family! I had the pesto rice bowl and a vanilla latte. The service is quick and fuss free. Oh and we were lucky enough to have a farmers market on the same day we decided to go for the brunch. Made the experience all the more joyful!

Yelp
The food is not great but the Alice in Wonderland statue in Evelyn Park is fabulous You Order your food inside and then you go outside to picnic tables to eat I guess there are a few little tables on the inside but not many
