Food is fresh and delicious, staff are very friendly and welcoming. Prices are very reasonable. I ordered the silver dollar pancakes for my 3 year old grand baby and they were the size of regular pancakes and the regular pancakes are the size of a full dinner plate. However, service is a bit slow and the dining room could use a remodel but it has local flare. Overall it was a great experience and I will return when I am visiting NOLA again.

After a long morning of walking and exploring the downtown area, I got an appetite for some food. I ended up looking up this place and noticed it sale breakfast and lunch. I opt in to try some breakfast and it wasnt the best but it held me until dinner time. The shrimp grits were seasoned to perfection, the cakes were on the tough side but I guess the syrup helped with that.

This place is a historic hidden gem. I ordered pigs in the blanket. Food was great and came out fast. Price was reasonable for location and quality/ quantity. I will be back.

We took the Streetcar up Canal to Dorgenois Street, just to go to Betsy’s for breakfast. We were not disappointed. The atmosphere is like an old-school dinner, nothing fancy just fun and homey. The breakfast is basic, eggs, bacon, grits with toast or pancakes. The portions are very large and the cost is super reasonable. A great experience and we will be back.

Google
This was a very disappointing experience, the place was packed so I just knew it was going to be phenomenal. Waiting at least ten minutes, before being greeted. I asked for eggs scumble lite, now any real cook knows you can't scumble lite eggs with fake eggs. All just went downhill from there. The guy next to me was also his first time in. Look at his wonderful plate with fresh eggs he had a great experience, wish I could say the same.

I’m a Veteran. I am a patient at veterans Hospital, New Orleans, Louisiana. The hospital is about a block away from the restaurant. On occasion, the hospital food is not to my liking. When I call, I give them my name. Some of them know me some of them don’t in either case, I’m always treated with respect And they always deliver when they say they will. The food is excellent. It is always as I ordered it. As long as I live, and that restaurant is open, I will go there expecting good service good food.

I have eaten breakfast here a couple times in the past and was pleased. This time around, the service and the food was garbage to put it nicely. Whomever the young man was serving us needs to find something else to do with his time because this ain’t it! I asked for white gravy for my chicken fried steak and got what looked like cornstarch and salt that looked sour and watery and half mixed because I know it was powder! Vegetables were cold, fries overcooked! I will not be returning here ever again! Yes, scratched from my list! And to think I thought enough to bring my mom here for her birthday! Shame on me!

Yelp
Betsy's is an unpretentiou, solid breakfast and lunch diner with mostly local customers that I always go to when I'm in New Orleans. Today I had Brady as a server and I get the sense that he has never been in good service because he gave me breakfast menu without mention of weekday breakfast special while other customers did get the brea special menu, brought coffee ordered without utensil, didn't provide update on food, didn't check back at any time to see if I needEd coffee refill or anything else, and never brought the check. Food was fine but I'd sit in another server's section if he was a server.

Yelp
During the week our visit was wonderful. A couple weeks ago on a Sunday morning we waited almost an hour for our food and it wasn't that crowded. Bacon eggs and toast were great but the signature blueberry pancakes were not up to speed. I suggest that the manager visit Bearcat to see what a quality pancake standard is now. Want to love Betsy's but they need to tighten up just a bite. Manager was nice to get us fed and apologized not sure what the problem was that morning.

Yelp
Very friendly staff and delicious breakfast . Very reasonable pricing . The pancakes were great. Probably should pass on the biscuits . Very dry . So disappointed.

Yelp
A legendary breakfast stop in NOLA...Food is amazing at this multi generation restaurant and the service is wonderful. They make you feel like family and has that old school New Orleans breakfast diner experience! Definitely go with the PANCAKES...come on now, you knew that was coming with it in the name!
google avatar

Yelp
A really good old school local dinner type of breakfast spot. Great service and very affordable. We really enjoyed this place. It reminded me of places I would go to in the 90s.
google avatar

Yelp
Wonderful local spot. Kind Staff and family owned. Don't go if you're rude or highly critical.

Yelp
The pancake special is always the best bet. It's the best price in the city. The service is always impeccable. I have never had a bad service experience there ever!!
google avatar

Crystal P.

Yelp
Got breakfast from here one morning while in vacation since it was right by our rental. Was pretty good. We just picked up so I can't really say much else but service was good.

Heather D.

Yelp
They continue to cancel orders on a whim. And this establishment does not keep posted hours.

Deborah A.

Yelp
Food was good for the price..may be a bit slower as the waitress are older but none the less!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Woman that answers phone is very very very rude Like wow Do better Betsy's There is no reason for anyone to be so nasty especially when it's not busy
google avatar

Tiye J.

Yelp
Now the ambiance is giving 80s diner so it is not turning any heads. But the food! Bar none! Betsy's have been around for ever because they make great and affordable breakfast. I hope they stay around!

Yelp
Awful service. Ordered a pancake and was brought a waffle (no big deal, it happens). I asked the server to correct it and she argued back and forth that I had ordered the waffle but then said she'd replace it. She left the waffle at our table but I didn't want to touch it in case they wanted to take it back. After that encounter she never came back. Not to ask how it was. Not to refill coffee. And not to bring the pancake. so I waited and finally decided to eat a couple bites of the cold waffle in the last 5 minutes. Food was okay but service was down right terrible. Thankfully, someone who seemed to be the manager, took the waffle off my ticket so I didn't pay for it.

Mark M.

Yelp
Second visit was just as good as the first. If you love a local pancake house with real food and real people, do not pass this place up.
google avatar

Willie S.

Yelp
My wifey's first time here at this establishment and this her plate. She usually eat smaller portions but today she told me she had to stop because the food was so good.

Yelp
We stayed at an Airbnb about two blocks away from here and we stopped in for breakfast before we left NOLA. It is a good, solid breakfast spot. The portions were huge. My eggs were cooked to perfection! Over medium is hard to get at some places and they were on point here. The breakfast specials are only until 10:30 am and they are totally worth it. However, it did take about 30-40 minutes to get our food. That was the only bummer. So make sure you aren't in a rush

Lana R.

Yelp
Service was horrible and slow. Once i sat down i did not get a menu and had to wait for atleast 20 minutes for just a menu, but once i got my food (PSA took forever). It was good

Yelp
2nd time visiting and it was as good as the first! Did the pigs in a blanket and tried a side of chops-DELICIOUS!

Yelp
I gave 2 stars only because the food is so very good. The service is a whole different story. My husband & I are at the VA for an extended time & we've been to Betsy's 3 times. The 1st was without incident. Our waitress, Robin, even told me that they had sugar-free syrup & next time I should get a pancake. So, the next week we go in & I order breakfast with a pancake & sugar-free syrup, coffee, water & sweet tea for my husband. Robin 1st got ticked because he wasn't going to eat!! He got a feeding tube! So, she brings my & it's got powdered sugar on it & got more ticked when I asked for another. Brought it, dropped it on the table & left. She was worse to the couple behind us & finally exploded to them about working on her day off. The wife was just mumbling, "Could you refill my $2.25 coffee?" ‍

Yelp
I have always loved Betsy's. I was so happy to see that they started opening on Sunday. Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy! We go in and sit at a table near the front door. We sat there for more than 10 minutes as we watched a waitress Evangeline take an order at the table next to us. We sit for a few moments more and we are still not greeted. The waitress comes back and my husband says, "Are you Robin?" since Robin's name is on the table. She say, "No, but I will help you." She does not look very pleasant. She brings us back menus and takes a drink order. She comes drops it off and runs off. A few moments later when she comes back, she's looking at a dirty table across from us and my husband says, "We are ready whenever you are?" She has the audacity to say, "I need to clean off this table. Do you mind if I clean it off and get other customers seated before I take your order?" I pipe up and say, "I don't know why you can't take our order now? We've been waiting! Looking perturbed she came over to take our order. In what food world does a dirty table take precedence over waiting customers? Food -- a 10 Hot Eggs, Hot Grits and Hot Pancakes Waitress -- a 4 for service Attitude -- a 2, seems to need basic training Waiting tables in 10 steps. 1. Greet customers and bring menus 2. Take drink order. Give customer time to look at menu 3. Drop off drinks and ask if they are ready to order 4. Take Order 5. Drop off food 6. After they've had time to taste food ask how everything is and if you can bring them anything else 7. Check back for drink refills 8. Ask them if they would like anything else. 9. Bring check 10. Let them pay and thank them for coming and tell them you look forward to seeing them again. I will go back to Betsy's but if I see this girl, I'm not sitting in her section!

Yelp
It's busy AF be prepared to wait especially after Mardi Gras! Still the best in NOLA

Lo W.

Yelp
Food was excellent! Our waitress was excellent! It was crowded, yet our large party of 15 was seated within 10-minutes. Pancakes were delicious. Potatoes were delicious. Grits smooth and also delicious! Breakfast special is $7.95 and you get A LOT of food for that little bit of money. The restaurant doesn't look appealing but that food hit on every level! Everyone in our party was satisfied!
google avatar

Kathie J.

Yelp
Nice little breakfast and lunch spot with the friendliest staff in town. People become regulars!! The food is good, just like a Diner should be. I ordered a short stack and the pancakes were as big around as the plate. Now I onow to order just one!
google avatar

Yelp
I've been to Betsy's Pancake House almost once a year for the past 15 years. It is still the same! Simple, no nonsense, cheap home-style breakfast and lunch service, with the restaurant filled with regulars (and hardly any tourists). The Breakfast Special is basically 2 eggs, 2 bacon slices, 2 toast slices and grits. Substitute grits for hash browns will set you back maybe an additional 75 cents. There are other breakfast items, but ironically I've never had Betsy's pancakes. Daily lunch specials are posted on whiteboards. Regulars must memorize which days serve what. My favorite is Thursday: the Spaghetti with meatballs or Italian sausage, or the Roast Beef, or the Fried Chicken. You don't get a whole lot of entree, but all are pretty decent and tasty, and nothing will set you back more than $9, including sides. Next time you are in N'Awlins, get a bit out of the French Quarter and eat where the locals eat.

Yelp
Walked in stood right in front of the lady behind the cash register. She never even looked at me. So rude. Not my kinda vibe!!
google avatar

Yelp
Great food and reasonable prices. I've actually eaten here 3 times and the food is consistently delicious. Come in and seat yourself. This place is set in the 60's it seems but don't let that deter you. The food is awesome!
google avatar

Yelp
Casual and laid back. Average breakfast food. Average coffee. Low key and not expensive basics.

Yelp
In LOVE. I was having a very intense waffle craving, and while this is a pancake house...you know, they typically do both. I don't know WHAT they put in their batter, but DANG is it good. Must be lard or something because the consistency is out of this world!! I had the joy of trying the strawberry waffle with whipped cream, and had my socks knocked off. Very old-school, no-frill, pancake house. The servers look like they've all been here for years, and the clientele also seems like they are all regulars. It brings a certain energy you definitely wouldn't find at more upscale brunch spots and I loved it. The prices are definitely right, and the lunch specials look great, too. Nothing fancy, just classic foods done right. I will be going back again this weekend for sure.

Yelp
When I ate lunch here recently, I couldn't believe it had been decades since I'd last stepped foot in here. I was running around on a weekday with one of the college-age nieces and we stopped here because we were both starving and she really wanted breakfast, even though it was noon. Welp, breakfast went out the window when we discovered that one of the $7.75 lunch special that day was fried shrimp on a bun with soup or salad, tea, and dessert + French bread and butter. Yes please! The salad was mostly iceberg but that's OK with me. And the dessert was either a slice of cake or canned peaches. I LOVE canned peaches and am not too fancy to admit that. The sammich was huge and came with fries. So I ended up taking 1/2 of it home and eating it for dinner. The table next to us order the white beans with a *giant* ham hock which was another special and that dude was digging in. I think my niece was freaked out by the ham hock but whatever. Pay at the counter. Tip your server well because they are hustling. Their is a parking lot on the side street if street parking isn't your thing. I need to put this in regular work rotation.

Yelp
Amazing every time. The atmosphere makes me feel like I'm back in the 60s in my grandmothers kitchen. The service is always so kind and inviting. I highly, highly recommend Betsys. Their pancakes are absolutely to die for.
google avatar

Lacey D.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my meal here! I am local, it had never eaten at Betsy's before. My husband and I shared a Belgian waffle with banana nut topping, and each got a biscuit sandwich- mine with sausage, egg and cheese; and his with bacon, egg, and cheese. The food was all delicious- it tasted hot and fresh. The service was friendly and efficient. We will be back!
google avatar

Megan C.

Yelp
Doesn't look like much in the outside and when we walked in the staff wasn't very friendly, maybe they could tell we were from out of town. We were seated quickly and the food was AMAZING. The pancakes were wonderful and so was the hot chocolate! We did a Texas and Veggie Omelette, both were delicious! Definitely recommend Betsy's! We never made it back, but joked about going every morning!
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent banana nut pancakes. Service was friendly and efficient. Great experience for a visiting tourist.

Yelp
Betsys is an old fashion type of eatery. You walk in, find a seat and wait to be served. The place is filled with locals and the waitresses show you the meaning of southern hospitality. I had the strawberry pancakes and my fiancé had the shrimp and grits. Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of either because we were too busy stuffing our face. But later in the week we ordered delivery and both got shrimp and grits (the only time I remembered to take a pic.) The food at Betsys is good and omg so cheap. We spent only $22 for two plates and two beverages. What a great little gem this place is.
google avatar

Yelp
Its a hit every time I come Betsys is my family normal day after mardi gras spot. When the crowd dies down and you need some good breakfast this is the place to go! Well, last weekend it was just a busy SEC championship game and there where a ton of people in town there parking down the street and a parking lot across from the restaurant so it makes it easy. When we got there it was a few people waiting all the large parties and just us and of course, we were seated and getting ready to enjoy our meal. I got the two eggs and porkchop and the short stack(i love pancakes). Now being that I normally come here I kinda sorta get the same thing and expect the same service and that didn't happen this time. The service just wasn't what it use to be I don't know if it was the big parties but that's no excuse because during mardi gras it way more people. Our waitress rarely checked on us my friend wanted a sprite and she didn't get it to around the end of our meal because she was occupied with another party. My food was great pork chop cooked to perfect my grits were the right consistency eggs(scrambled) you can't mess those up and my pancakes came hot and ready.

Yelp
Awesome place. The only straight up diner that I've managed to find in nola. Incredible prices and excellent service. Decor is not amazing but the Food is killer. My kinda place.

Yelp
Food is always good. I used to love this place . Daily specials with a salad and desert under 15 bucks but the service sucked . Brought food never looked up from her phone the whole time to see that I had no drink . Went and sat at a table never came back no dessert. It's just too bad . I tipped anyway because server wages are terrible but man won't be back shame

Haylee L.

Yelp
When first walking in we weren't greeted for about 5-10 minutes and then when sitting down i received my menu and no drinks get refills
google avatar

Lauren L.

Yelp
I went to this restaurant with a group who has been going for years, and now I know why they love it so much. The staff was so friendly, and even though my order was particular, it was executed perfectly. I got chocolate chip pancakes with extra chocolate chips, orange juice, and chewy bacon. Yum! Just the right portion too!
google avatar

Miguel C.

Yelp
Betsy's is a breakfast place. What else do you want? The place is like a waffle house or an ihop, but a little more homey than that. Staff is friendly, food is good enough. The one thing that I'd say is a must is the breakfast special. Till 10:30am you can get two eggs, pancakes, bacon, and grits for $5.50. Now that's a deal! Colleen was my favorite of the waitresses, but they're all great. Come here enough, and you're likely to become a local regular =)

Yelp
5 stars! Really good Sunday breakfast. I recently went here on Mother' Day after church. My parents go here every Sunday for breakfast and there's normally a line that goes out the door. On this visit be must have beat the crowd. I walked in and was seated right away. Drinks were taken and so was our meal within 5 minutes even though every table was occupied. The wait staff and the porters were all quick. The food didn't take long at all to come to our table. I had some of the best grits I ever had. Thick and creamy with not one lump (I hate those lol). The bacon was really crispy and the toast was great. My dad is a complainer (in general) and he didn't complain about his eggs, so I'd say they do a good job on eggs and the rest of the things on the menu. The location, great! Canal St two blocks away from the new medical complex. I'm not sure if there is a crowd on weekdays like on Sunday morning. There is street parking all around, and I think they have a parking lot. If I'm not mistaken, they are only open for breakfast and lunch until 2pm 7 days a week. A must stop for good, cheap breakfast food. I will be back soon if not with my parents, then with friends.

Elise A.

Yelp
Great food, terrific ambiance. You don't get more authentic than Betsy's. They have a sign on the wall "be nice or leave." And they mean it! They've been serving up comfort with a short stack on the side to generations of locals.
google avatar

Joni R.

Yelp
A great spot to eat with a great ambiance. The service is really good and the food is down home deliciousness. Betsys has a neighborhood feel where people come from all walks of life and are generally quite friendly.
google avatar

Karlie N.

Yelp
The food was delish, perfect home style breakfast. But what was really great was the friendly atmosphere, and the staff! They were super on it. Very attentive, and very fun. They did half the work to keep my four year old entertained, and didn't mind taking the time to converse with him when he wanted to talk with them. They got me ice for my baby when he bonked his head. And promptly offered answers to any food or city questions. Prices were also great. Thanks for the awesome New Orleans welcome!
google avatar

Travis C.

Yelp
One of my favorite places in the city to get a good and cheap breakfast. The staff is always nice! Very local feel to it. As if you're at your family members house. Lol. Get the Fried Chicken with Eggs and homestyle hash browns! You won't regret it!!

Ashley W.

Yelp
Watched one lady in horror as she changed an infants diaper right on the counter next to where they have food. The baby was that of one of the staff members, cute and adorable but so disgusting to clean feces next to food. Im a server and would NEVER do that.
google avatar

Budha U.

Yelp
The best way to describe this place is to compare it to I hop and waffle house. It's like Both places but homely atmosphere. Pancakes and egg was good I will repeat! Good pancakes

Yelp
So, I really really really wanted to like this place. It has great reviews.... After just leaving, I don't understand how.....My family and I decided to finally go for breakfast. I love pancakes, and let's face it, you really can't go wrong with something easy like that. Well.... when we get there, we got to sit wherever which was nice :) the waitress comes with two menus, and I say thank you, can we get another? My husband went to the restroom. She never brought it. She then comes with the silverware and forgets my husbands, leaves to get him some. We watch her grab silverware and she sets a table ok fine we sit for another 5-10 min and she comes back to take our drink and food order. While we were waiting a party of 6 come in. They sit for a little bit and say you know, we are going to go somewhere else. The waitress said something to them, they walk out and the waitress tells everyone "oh they wanted to eat at Neals good luck that place is nasty. " fast forward 15 more min and we get our food. The pancakes are super thin, my bacon was soggy, the grits were ice cold, the hash browns were dripping grease and my husbands toast never came. And my husband has had an empty cup of coffee for about 20 min. If you decide to go there, I'm not stopping you lol. I will say don't expect anything. It's not good the waitress talks about the customers and they charge for to go boxes lol We won't be back
