I placed an order for a customized cake for a baby shower for my cousin. The total was $400+ & I paid a deposit of $200+, I decided I wanted to pay the remaining balance the day of pickup.
To start, this bakery never picks up their phone or return calls. I left numerous voicemails, stating my cousin went into labor prematurely. I contacted the bakery approx. (5) days before the event and left numerous calls to inform them that the baby shower might be canceled, requesting a callback. My cousin decided to continue with the baby shower. So I immediately called the bakery, and of course they never picked up the phone, I left a message and stated to disregard my prior message about canceling of the cake. And again, I never received a callback.
Day of pickup:
I called the bakery in the morning, and I was able to speak to a live person, and I asked if I could pick up the cake in the early afternoon - since the original pickup time was 11 am - the rep stated it wouldn't be an issue.
I went to the bakery to get the cake & to pay my remaining balance, and there was no cake. The cashier stated there's no orders for any clients for this day. She never mentioned this over the phone when I called in the morning.
The cashier/owner/baker couldn't find my invoice - and stated they have weekly meetings to discuss customers order and the baker Emily didn't mention my cake, so the staff wasn't aware of this order. It took them about 10-15min to find my invoice, which shows to me how disorganized they are.
The owner Dekota and Sean aka (Zeke) was extremely apologetic due to their error, and said they would scramble something up, and put two cakes together & use someone else's decorations form another order. The owners said they would refund my deposit and deliver this new cake in person.
Dekota did indeed deliver the cake and refunded my deposit in cash. He was extremely apologetic, and the cake was cute-tiny. It was nothing in comparison to the cake I initially ordered!! But at the time I was satisfied to have a "cake." We shook hands, and that was the end of that...So I thought...
This baby shower had 100+ people, and everyone knew I was the one that was in charge of the cake. As my cousin is cutting...... the cake collapsed. The embarrassment I felt, I left to go to the restroom to relax my nerves...I walked back into the shower and heard people discussing how disgusting the cake was, omg. I decided to take a piece, and this is not me over exaggerating- this cake tasted spoiled, ugh!!
1 1/2 week later:
Zeke (Head Baker) called/text me, requesting for a call back without giving any details to the nature of the call. I'm guessing he wanted to see how the cake was and to apologize again. At this point, I'm still distraught over this situation, and I didn't want to speak to him and wanted to forget this ever happened.
He continue to send me a text, threatening to call the cops because I'm not responding to him. Again, there are no details for the nature of his call. I was never going to post a yelp about this situation until I received this text. Showed my mother the text, and she contacted the owner....
He stated that I was a thief trying to get a free cake, he was requesting for the refunded money that was given to me; due to the bakery error, to be returned to him. Zeke stated he just listened to the (1+week old voicemails) I left for the bakery. His reasoning behind this was his company was extremely busy during the week and he wasn't able to hear any of the messages on time.....THIS ISNT MY ISSUE!!! As my mother is trying to explain herself and correcting his lies, Zeke became aggressive/frustrated and told her to SHUTUP, and continue to say he will not lose in this situation and Betty Bakery will claim this as fraud to his insurance. But, isn't what he's doing fraudulent???
FYI, I have my invoice/bank statement and my phone records for all the times that I called this bakery. Please see images yelpers; I can't make this story up.
