Betty’s Seafood Shack has become one of our favorite parts of summer in Margate. We started coming here a couple years ago, and now we make it a point to stop by every time we’re in town. The food is just consistently amazing. Our go-to order is the lobster roll and the grilled shrimp lettuce wraps — the shrimp is always jumbo, super fresh, and perfectly grilled, and the lobster roll is buttery, generous, and absolutely packed with flavor. At this point, we’ve tried almost everything on the menu, and truly, it’s all delicious. Every single dish has been full of fresh ingredients, well-seasoned, and clearly made with care. The atmosphere at Betty’s makes the whole experience even better. It’s right on the bay, and even when it’s packed (which it often is), it never feels too hectic. Watching the sunset while you wait for your food just adds to the charm. And yes — sometimes there’s a bit of a wait, especially on holiday weekends, but it’s always worth it. The staff is friendly, honest about timing, and they’ll text you when your order’s ready, so you can grab a drink nearby and enjoy the evening. We even got to meet Steve, the owner, over Labor Day weekend — such a genuine, welcoming guy. You can really feel the love and care that goes into the place. And don’t miss the BBQ spot they opened next door — it’s just as good. Betty’s is more than just a great seafood shack — it’s become a little tradition for us. Amazing food, great people, and one of the true highlights of our summers.

We came in right before the big lunch rush, so we were able to be helped very quickly! Then less than 10 minutes later, we were served with some of the best seafood I’ve had on the east coast!! My husband came in saying that he wasn’t very hungry and wouldn’t eat anything, but after eating half of my meal, we left with him saying ‘should I go back and get more?!?!’ If you can get in when it’s not too busy, you really had not ought to miss this gem… even if it’s crazy busy, it’s STILL probably worth it. Thank you!!

Google
It’s kind of a complete free-for-all in there, but if you can manage to place your order at the counter and find a spot yeah the food is good. Like really good. Pretty casual and low-key and it’s a good option to kind of sit/take away as opposed to go to some of the fancier places down by the bay. Needless to say was not cheap with two lobster rolls and a dozen oysters, but definitely worth going back. Good on you Betty’s.

Betty’s Seafood Shack is fabulous! We had the Connecticut style lobster rolls… they were the BEST EVER! Enjoyed the atmosphere and everyone was very friendly! So glad we stopped!

Ate here unexpectedly today. Didn't have plans for lunch while at the shore for the day, and was craving a crab cake and this place popped up on my Google search so decided to give it a try. Wow and Wow! Crab cake was more than we expected, flavor, texture, sauce and buttery lettuce, it was a special treat, quite delicious and you can order to your liking fried or grilled!! We also ordered the fried pickles. For better or worse, I have eaten fried pickles all over this country 😆 🤷‍♀️. These are THE best fried pickles ever!! Meaty spears and a thin crispy crust. The dipping sauce was fresh and very flavorful. The staff here is super friendly and we loved the casual vibe... order, eat and go. Before we left, we chatted with Robyn who bakes many of their desserts (don't know if she's the owner 🤔)...super personable; she offered to try their new chocolate covered key lime pie POP( yes, on a stick)!! If you appreciate the flavors of key lime, this for you!! Two people can share one pop. It was creamy, refreshing and fun eat!🤩 Oh, and just to mention, indoor and outdoor seating right on the bay-great views! Can't wait to come back and try some of their specials!

We went there for the first time on Thursday for Happy Hour food - the New England clam chowder, tuna poke bowl and clamp strips. All were fresh and delicious and quickly brought to us out back to the left where we looked out on the bay. We'll be back!

Really love the vibes here. Very kind staff. Super low key. Dressed casual. The foods incredible. Got the fish and chips. That’s our second time going. Got the lobster roll last time. Will definitely be going back!!!

We have been to Betty’s twice, we have also been to all parts of New England, many times to Maine. Hands down, not even close Betty’s has the absolute best lobster roll we have ever had. The best part is the staff and owners are extremely dog friendly. The staff treated our two boxer boys great, we were mad to feel very comfortable both times there. The atmosphere is awesome, on a bay outside picnic tables as well as inside seating.

Yelp
My husband and I went to Betty's for the first time today. I heard they have whole belly clams which are my husband's very favorite...he is a New England boy! I held my breath thinking the clams couldn't possibly be as good as the ones he gets when he travels home. And... he said they were amazing! He was so happy that not too far from our home is our new favorite seafood restaurant. I had jumbo lump crabmeat lettuce wraps which were spectacular. The staff is so friendly and the service, just perfect. We were so pleased that one of the owners stopped at our table to chat. And let's not forget the location...on the water with a gorgeous view. The restaurant is a fun, casual spot. If you are anywhere within 100 miles of Margate, you have to check out Betty's Seafood Shack. We can't wait to go again!

Yelp
Good potential here but an overall disappointment. Would recommend you order and get a number for your table and someone brings the food to you. Didn't care for people trying to get our seats while we had to get our order. Lobster meat had no flavor, was not dressed at all. The lettuce completely overpowered the taste. The fried combo platter was good; the fries were terrible. Did not enjoy having to get up at least 2-3 teams for a side of butter for the lobster roll, more cocktail sauce and a tartar sauce (not provided). Overall a frustrating dining experience, mediocre food, especially at this price point. 2 stars for potential improvement.

Yelp
This place is a must! The lobster roll is delicious, reminded us of one we ate in Maine. It was super fresh and meaty, the bun was perfectly buttered and toasted. We also got the seafood combo with scallops, shrimp and a crab cake. The scallops were delicious, the breading was super crispy and the scallop was juicy and tasty. The fried shrimp was good, decent sized shrimp but overall I've had better. The crab cake was also very good, it was all crab meat basically no filler at all. The onion rings were very crunchy and delicious. The breading they use on their fried food it really good and makes for a perfect crunch. You order at a counter and then can sit inside or out. We sat outside on the back deck around sunset and it was very nice and relaxing. We went on a Wednesday night and got our food very quickly. It wasn't to crowded. Overall we will be back for another lobster roll!

Yelp
It was a perfect day in August to spend at the beach. I had to grab seafood, and it was delicious. The lobster bisque was seasoned perfectly and has the right amount of lobster. My crabcake was fried but not greasy, and the coating complimented the crabmeat.

Yelp
We are here two times in a few days. The food is delish, and we loved the views. Being able to watch the sunset while we ate was great. I would order ahead because we did wait 45 minutes for our food. When we did that the second time, we only waited a few minutes.

Yelp
This place is an absolute gem. Every summer I am always craving fried seafood (clams specifically) and it is always so hard to find in the Philly/New Jersey area because it's usually a New England speciality. But this place has it all- fried scallops, shrimp, clams (WHOLE BELLIES!!!), chowdah, etc. All the seafood is fresh and delicious, everything was perfectly fried and seasoned to perfection. There is plenty of outdoor seating (with picturesque views by the water) and it is dog friendly. I can't wait to go back. This will be a new summer tradition!

Yelp
Food greasy Service fair we had to get food ourselves Ambience cramped Will not return

Yelp
Went to Betty's rather than wait an hour at another restaurant. It's truly a shack - but the food was outstanding and the staff was great. We were 5 and 4 of us had the lobster roll - fantastic and a bargain at $24 + $3 for excellent fries. Son-in-law had the blackened halibut special and he thought it was superb. It's paper cartons and plastic utensils but that was part of the enjoyment. First time we were in the area but we would definitely go back to Betty's.

Yelp
The food was okay. I had the battered cod sandwich. It was too big for the roll and that is by no means a complaint from me. The atmosphere was great cause it is by the water.

Yelp
What a great addition to Margate! I love the lettuce lobster rolls. Everything is fresh and good.

Yelp
Perfect! Friendly service, the food came out fast even with the restaurant being busy. Best seafood in the area no question! Everything was hot, fresh and delicious. I shall return!!!

Yelp
Thrilled to have a great seafood option we can walk to in Margate. Our visit to this restaurant this afternoon was terrific. We ordered a lobster roll and clam roll with french fries. The restaurant was able to accommodate our request for no butter on the lobster roll. Portions were great, quality of the food was great and the prices are reasonable for the shore. We ate at a table inside the restaurant and were very comfortable. The people behind the counter are extremely friendly. Can't wait until the next time I visit to try one of their soups and I expect that by the end of the summer, we will have tried most of the seafood options on their menu.

Yelp
I first tried Betty's when it opened earlier the summer and I can't stop going back! The food is delicious and I love the casual atmosphere with the mis matched chairs at every table. The staff is incredibly friendly and eager to please. Last night we had the cod sandwich ( so crispy on the outside and flaky inside) the Manhattan clam chowder and the lobster roll. Yum! And the fries were cooked perfectly! Definitely try the aioli sauce. Love watching the sunset from the big windows as well! So happy Betty's is here!

Yelp
Amazing food and service. A must if you're in Margate, longport or Ventnor Hats off to chef Luis!!!!

Yelp
Betty's has the best lobster roll in the area. It's competitively priced. Good cole slaw too. Betty's is a fun, casual place on the water. You can eat inside or there's picnic tables outside. Betty's serves on paper plates and uses plastic disposable utensils. Save some of your appetite for the delicious ice cream place next door. The raspberry truffle ice cream is insanely good!!!

Mitchell L.

Yelp
Food was underwhelming and very high price. Sent owners a note to try to resolve but never gat a reply.

Yelp
Quick pickup service and great crab cakes. If this place had a bar/dock access it would be great.

Yelp
Betty's Seafood Shack is a tremendous addition to Margate's Amherst Avenue bay front dining scene. Last night was buzzing with cool breezes, great music and an awesome vibe. Their truly "jumbo" shrimp cocktail is perfectly matched with Betty's special cocktail sauce, and the blackened Scottish salmon was absolutely delicious. Leave room for Betty's truly unique Frozen Key Lime Pie on a stick - so damn gooooood! This was our 4th meal at Betty's, and just like their sister Waterdog Smoke House, the food is always a home run.

Yelp
A MARGATE MUST! Today we finally got around to trying the new Betty's Seafood Shack. Adorable atmosphere and very kind staff!! We ordered the lobster bisque, cod box, and crab cake roll. The bisque was incredible, and crab cake was probably one of the best crab cake sandwiches I've had in a long time. A little on the pricey side, BUT food was extremely fresh and you get what you pay for! Love the story of how this place started as well. I went to college in Rhode Island and am so happy to have a seafood shack in Margate, NJ! Can't wait to go back! :)

Yelp
Beatiful restaurant, great food, great atmosphere. Had the crab cake it was perfect amount of food, fries and cole slaw were both delicious. Restaurant sits right on the water, plenty of seating. Can't wait to see how these guys do this summer, it should be busy!
