"A relative newcomer to the Marin dining scene, this tiny storefront from Betzy Decker serves tacos de buche and tacos de cabeza alongside the more familiar al pastor and carne asada.  Savor the texture of fresh ground blue corn on picaditas topped with fried beans and queso fresco. Or one of the eight variations of pupusa, including three vegetarian options. There’s even a veggie version of quesabirria (with potatoes) and a family-size version, for those days when more is more." - Christina Mueller

Google
The food was flavorless. Birria tacos had no flavor, no salt and the consume served with it was also lacking flavor. I would describe it as beef broth with onion. No chiles to make the consume red and flavorful. Our super burrito had a weird sweet flavor with no seasoning and we threw it away. I will not return here.

Google
The food here is nothing short of amazing! It is one of the best Mexican cuisine I have had. It was really good! Got a super burrito and super quesadilla which was super delicious. Can highly recommend the food here!

Google
The best tacos and papusas I’ve ever had! The tortillas are the best and the papusas melt into every bite!! You can eat there but it tastes great even 20’ later. 😋😋😋

Google
New taco place in Westend area, San Rafael. I have tried their veggie taco and al pastor taco and both were yummy. My husband and my kids had carne asada tacos and they liked them a lot, too. The staff was nice. They have indoor and outdoor seating as well. We’ll go back to try more things on the menu! 09/07/23 I went to Betzy’s again to grab dinner for me and my family. I had bean and cheese pupusa and I think it was the best pupusa I’ve ever had. My husband and and kids also loved the quesabirria and papabirria they got.

Google
The first time I went it it was great and so was the second. I got shrimp tacos and each tacos had 3 grilles shrimp. The third and FINAL time I went to Betty 's Taco in San Rafael was awful. They gave me 1 and 1/2 FRIED Shrimp per tacos. I don't like Fried Shrimp!! I will NOT go there again.

Carl Laigo

Google
Really good Mexican fries the lengua is super soft and the fries are so crispy yet fluffy on the inside. This place deserves all the love it can get !

Google
Don't walk run! Betsy's Taco's is the bomb! I cannot believe how good the food is here. Best taco I've ever had. Carnitas taco was delicious. The tortillas are homemade and soft and delicate. It's the best thing to happen to Marin in a long time. PS- they have Papusas.

Nick Tuyau

Google
Betzy's Tacos is an absolute must-try! If you haven't been, you're seriously missing out. Their burritos and nachos are fantastic, but let me tell you, the Quesabirria is a game-changer! The staff is not just friendly but genuinely welcoming, and the best part is the menu won't break the bank. I can't recommend it enough - go give it a taste!

Yelp
Pupusas! This unassuming storefront in a small parking lot at a triangle intersection in West San Rafael has the best pupusas in the area. They offer about half a dozen options, including a great three-for-$15 deal. Sit and eat while they are hot and melting, or bring home and enjoy! There is limited seating both inside and outside, but a bonus is that the restaurant is open until 10 pm, which means it has the entire outside area after a certain point in the evening.

Yelp
Another Mexican food place in Marin that is overpriced and lacks flavor. Sadly the burrito was not good and I only took one bite. The birria tacos had no flavor, a tiny sprinkle of onions and the consume was flavorless. Not traditional. Basically beef/pork dripping and broth with some cilantro. Lacks any chilis that give consume flavor and color. Nothing had salt (not like there is any flavor the salt would have brought out). Service was fast and good. Restaurant was small but nice and clean. Out of politeness I didn't even try to get a refund. So far the best Mexican food nearby is Taqueria Bahia.

Dave

Yelp
Pretty solid mom and pop type Mexican food. My go to place for a burrito in San Rafael. Fairly priced.

Ivy C.

Yelp
Legit tacos! I found this place on a list and can't believe how crowded it was on a Thursday lunch. I ordered at the counter. My kids both got two plain carnitas tacos. (They can customize your taco order) I got the tripe and al pastor tacos and one birria. I also asked for a side of rice, which they got (not on menu). Overall amazing hole in the wall place and delicious tacos. I'll be back!

Frank P.

Yelp
I thought that these 3 (Bean and cheese), (bean, pork, and cheese), (bean, pork, cheese, and loroco) pupusas were good but not the best in the area, as another Yelper posted. The service was excellent and very amicable. The ambiance is that of a classic Hispanic kitchen vibrating with color, music, and joyful conversation. I will return to try the tacos and burritos at some other point, I do feel satisfied, so TTFN

Yelp
I will dream about the pupusas and quesadillas at this place. Friends showed us this restaurant which recently opened in their neighborhood, and I gotta say it was the best pupusa and best quesadilla I have ever had. A lot of pupusas I've had are overly doughy with not enough filling, but this one had an incredible ratio, with so much filling that it was spilling out of the dough. And with many vegetarian options! And the quesadilla- I have no idea what they did to it to make it taste so good, but it was out of this world. Will also put in a plug for their horchata which was delicious and not overly sweet. The service is very quick (food was out within 10 minutes), and the restaurant is small with some bar seating at the window and a table in the corner, but cute. Can't wait to come back here.

Yelp
I recently visited Betzy Tacos located at 1815 4th St, Ste 5, San Rafael, CA 94901, and ordered 3 Quesabirria tacos for $17, along with a bottle of coke. Overall, my experience was satisfactory. The tacos were presented well and were crispy, which was a definite plus. They weren't soggy, indicating they were freshly made and served hot. However, I found that the beef lacked flavor, as did the broth accompanying the tacos. While the tacos were fresh and well-prepared, they didn't quite hit the mark in terms of taste. On a positive note, the restaurant offers both indoor seating and outdoor seating underneath a pop-up in front of the establishment. The staff was friendly and accommodating, adding to the pleasant dining experience. In conclusion, if you're in the San Rafael area and craving tacos, Betzy Tacos is worth considering. While the tacos were fresh and the staff was friendly, they fell short in terms of flavor. However, if you're looking for a casual dining experience with decent tacos, this place might be worth a visit.

Yelp
I've only ordered the pupusas and birria tacos. Both are good but I like the pupusas best! Some of the best I've had and so flavorful. If I'm wanting pupusas then this is my go to, a couple times they've been a little greasy but still good none the less. I like the mixed pork bean and cheese one. The tacos are good too- not the best I've had but not the worst- flavorful and enjoyable.

Ambar C.

Yelp
My new favorite spot for really good Guatemalan food! I've sampled a lot of the menu, and everything is delicious. EVERYTHING. As if that weren't enough, Betzy and her staff are so warm and welcoming and kind. Highly recommend. My initial visit was part of the grand opening / yelp elite event, and I am so glad I went! The food is freshly made, and comes out piping hot! So, give yourself a few minutes to let it cool down. Our order for a family of 4 is 6 quesabirria tacos (no onion), 3 picaditos (asada, al pastor, carnitas), and 2 pupusas combinación (meat, cheese, loroco). I'm not even sure how to express how good and perfect it is. Just delicious. As far as ambience, there is outdoor seating, which is great. There's also 1 large communal table and some bar stools in the window inside. It's pretty much set up for to go or quick eats, but there's a full parking lot and totally fine to hang out. Love this spot. Have been back a few times, and my kids request Betzy's by name now.

Jasper P.

Yelp
A lot of positives here. High quality hand made tortillas, tender high quality meat, everything cooked very well, clean space and bathroom, friendly staff and fast service. However, the flavor is a bit bland, even with their sauces. It could benefit from a bit more salt and a bit more spice. Almost feels like it's made for very bland palates.

Frank R.

Yelp
When I first came here for the Yelp event I ordered some tacos and a quesadilla. They were good. Tonight I was driving by and saw they were still open and banged a u turn to get on some grub. I ordered a super burrito with al pastor and a horchata to go. The wait was a little confusing as 2 people that came in after me received their orders before me. They were not called in, they ordered at the counter. I get home and unwrap the burrito and throw some salsa verde on it. Take a nice size bite and BAM! Absolutely no flavor. Bland as bland can be. Even the salsa. I was surprised as my first encounter was very positive. This burrito would not bring me back. Not sure what happened here. Al pastor should be bursting with flavor. Very disappointed, sorry Betsy.

Noemi P.

Yelp
Food was really good.. they make hand made tortillas for tacos. Then the papusas also are a BIG hit. Second time here and the wait time for my to-go order was not bad with it still being super busy on a Saturday night! Their burritos are massive and filled either with plenty of protein! Small area to eat but enough for a few tables.

James G.

Yelp
We need more wonderful local places like Betzy's! I have waited to review Betzy's until we tried a variety of different items, on different visits. The Burritos we super-flavorful, and not too moist, which makes them perfect for eating on the run...or getting them home in appetizing condition. Loved 'em. The Tacos were fresh and crispy, yum! We enjoyed the whole rainbow of them...Pastor, Carnitas, Carne Asada, all fresh and bright flavors, with that Mexico City street-food flair! We love their Pupusas...they transport us back to vacations in Central America (and a couple of the best places in The Mission District). They're really not hard to make at home, but they're even easier to order here..and they're perfect! We absolute love their Horchata and Aquafrescas. Even if I'm not hungry, I will stop by for one of those. It's easy to eat here, even if you're by yourself. They have a bar to sit at, by the window, a communal table inside, and a tented area just outside, at parking lot curb. They keep that area carefully cleaned and welcoming. At Betzy's the service is friendly and efficient... freshly made-to-order food takes a moment to make, but they get you in and served pretty quickly! Speaking of Parking... they are in a small mall with easy parking right in front.

Matthew C.

Yelp
Saw this restaurant pop up on my Instagram feed so I had to check it out myself to see what's popping. Went here to try out their quesabirria. To be honest, I'd give them a 7.5/8 out of 10. The birria was soft and tender but the consome was too watery, no taste. Maybe on some days they are good. Every quesabirria is oily but I think I should try other things on the menu. Self complimentary water is self serve. Overall, it's a cool little spot for San Rafael.

Anndora L.

Yelp
Great food & service! Grabbed a huge takeout order yesterday. It was ready on time and everyone was happy with their food. Delish!! Cute & colorful storefront and small kitchen. There's a large table and counter seating inside with outdoor/parking lot spaces to dine in. Can't wait to come back!

Christine R.

Yelp
Like the old Mervyn's commercials, when they had their sign out, I was chanting open, open, open! When they finally opened, people were so happy. We needed something like this in this Best Buy Outlet plaza. Same owner as Moonlight Deli, Betzy is a savvy business woman. She loves making people happy with food, and who doesn't love food? What a great combo tacos + pupusas ~ FTW! The horchata is also delicious. All their tacos are tasty, can't go wrong with the pupusas, Revuelta is my fave! 'Til next time ~ cheers and see you on Yelp (SYOY)!

Breana T.

Yelp
First time in and it was a great experience! Love getting to watch them make the pupusas right in front of you. I ordered 1 revuelta pupusa and 1 Al pastor taco. The meat was flavorful and you could taste the fresh quality masa used for the pupusas. My only gripe is that they didn't give me any salsa for my taco and I didn't notice until I got home. :( This is some of the best Mexican/Salvadoranian food in Marin for sure! Definitely go check them out!

Miles B.

Yelp
I love this place, food is flavorful! Literally some of the best Birria tacos in Marin county. A lot of other places make their Birria way too salty and give you too much soup. This order is just right.

Luz D.

Yelp
Delicious and authentic Latin food! My favorite items on the menu are the pupusas and picaditas!! The tacos are made with homemade tortillas... amazing!

Mark G.

Yelp
Hours needed to be updated. Came here at 9:30PM, Yelp says they close at 11:00PM. They were closing at 10:00 and the server seemed annoyed. Five stars for the food only. Delicious. Service needs some friendliness.

larry c.

Yelp
Still the best in marin ! Everything about Betsy's including Betzy and her staff makes it "my go to spot" in San Rafael. Their tacos and all else never disappoints

Scott H.

Yelp
absolutely amazing tacos. My first order was for four tacos. I ordered three carne asada and one carnitas. The carnitas tacos were so good I ended up ordering two more. This is a very simple operation with no frills, that is except for fantastic tacos. Service was good. You order at the counter and they will bring your food out to the table. The ambience was very casual. several tables outside under an awning.

Bill H.

Yelp
Excellent fresh authentic Mexican food with the emphasis on tacos and quesabirria tacos! Friendly fast service and nice outdoor tables in the parking lot add to the street credit. Guaranteed to satisfy your cravings for street tacos.

Chris R.

Yelp
What a great place, real good tacos and Pupusas's. Food is fresh and hot. Friendly service, they have a few tables under canopy for your to sit outside and enjoy the food and weather.

Shaina R.

Yelp
Came to check out the new place. We ordered tacos: carnitas, pastor, asada, Birria as well as mesquites, combination pupusa, horchata, and watermelon juice. Our favorite was the carnitas taco! The staff was very friendly and the service was great. Generally, we thought the food was lacking in heat. So if you don't tolerate spicy food then order as it comes. If you prefer heat/spice with your tacos ask them for hot sauce. They have a sauce that they make there that is very spicy (pale green) and tasty. They also have a salsa there (upon request-red) that we found delicious in flavor but not much heat, which was delicious to add to any of the dishes. The mesquite's has that nice chewy corn texture. Could have used some more of the spice powder. But nevertheless, I can never refuse this dish and can never find it in Marin. Overall it was a great experience and we will definitely come back. Glad to have another taco spot in Marin.

Evelia C.

Yelp
Food was so flavor less and the Cortito was also bad no flavor no salt no vinegar carrots were too big and NEVER GOING BACK AGAIN! ugh

Malu D.

Yelp
First of all, I would like to thank our dear "Mary V" for recommending "Betzy's tacos!" I tried Betzy's for the first time, on Tuesday, and Betzy's just turned me into a taco lover! I absolutely enjoyed the "carnitas tacos" I ordered! I was at Betzy's again, for the second time yesterday, Thursday. Twice in a week! I truly enjoyed the terrific tacos I had just like I did the first time. Apart from the deliciousness of the tacos, Betzy does not skimp on meat. I look forward to enjoying more of Betzy's tacos and I am now a regular! "Thank you once again, dear Mary V!"

Assad S.

Yelp
This place was recommended by a friend. I wanted to try it out me and my mom she ordered two tacos and it's not like other tacos that we get in town and my burrito was extremely soggy. Didn't have any taste to it.

Jalynne A.

Yelp
Very fresh and tasty. Tacos were different in flavor than other places... perhaps a regional thing. Staff was excellent as it's a super duper small space and the seating is limited... we sat outside. Owner came by and said hi- I love that. Food was very fresh! Spicy. GO! I had the beef taco my friend had the pork and he raved about it- I don't eat pork so I can't attest but I trust his taste buds. :))

Christopher B.

Yelp
I love this place. Handmade tortillas. Super nice people. Beautiful space. Great tacos. I haven't even tried the other stuff yet, because the tacos are so good -- but I want to.

Jessica B.

Yelp
Betsy's Taco's is my new favorite place to eat in Marin. It's in the same parking lot as Jack in the Box between 3rd and 4th St in San Rafael. Plenty of parking and an outdoor covered seating area. This small woman owned business is the bomb. The tacos are homemade. I ordered a Carnitas taco and a spinach and cheese Papusa. I also got watermelon water. This was the best taco I've ever had. I've had a few.. homemade tortillas were soft and fresh. The Carnitas tasted like it was just made. Enough crisp to soft succulent ratio. It's a cheerful atmosphere. I felt like someone's living grandma cooked her best food for me. The Papusa had very fresh masa and was light and airy. I've never had a Papusa like that. Tasty, delicious, unique. I'm moved and in love with this place!

Derek S.

Yelp
The steak tacos were very good. The salsa is a bit spicy but very flavorful. We also really loved the pupusas. Will definitely try it again!

Casey B.

Yelp
Glad that this place is open in our neighborhood, the tacos are the best in Marin in my opinion. Food is not overly seasoned or saturated, for those who like spicy foods, you'll need to add some hot sauce. We had carnitas and asada tacos, both were excellent with the handmade tortillas. I also had the quesabirrias which were outstanding. Some places I have had quesabirria its been too salty, greasy or overly seasoned. These were dang perfect with their consommé Horchata is solid too. Can't wait to go back and try the other menu items. The owner is very kind and friendly.

Margie R.

Yelp
Welcoming, kind and courteous staff. Limited inside seating. However, there are outdoor casual bistro tables as well. Plenty of parking. Festive and colorful decor. My first visit. Had al pastor, carnitas and carne asada tacos, pappas birria tacos and an elote bowl. Will also try the papusas next time for sure. They looked yummy too! All our selections were prepared very fresh. Birria crisp and light. Highly recommend. Fair prices. Will return for sure.

Carlos F.

Yelp
Eat at Betzy's. Handmade tortillas on all of their Tacos and Pupusas truly make the difference. It's like going into their home where they welcome you with delicious offerings. Yeah it's a parking lot seating area or inside dining in a shopping area but don't let that fool you. Order two Tacos and one combination Pupusa and see for yourself.

EJ E.

Yelp
BEST TACOS EVER. And the owner knows it too! Very authentic, fast service and well priced. I sat outside for my meal since the inside is a little packed/small. A little loud inside too. I highly recommend.

Kathy L.

Yelp
Betzy is the best!!!!!! My favorite is the Taco De Carne Asada. The ingredients are so fresh , flavorful, and reasonably priced. Betzy is a very hard working mother who makes her job, parenting and owning two adjoining restaurants seem easy. We know it isn't. Thank you Betzy and staff. You are a great addition to San Rafael's West End.

Oren L.

Yelp
After moving to Marin from SF, I've been waiting for a good taco place to show up and Betzy delivers the goods! So far, over 5 visits, I've had: 2x orders of quesabirria tacos, 2x lengua tacos, 2x lengua burritos, 3x papusas, the watermelon agua fresca, and the horchata. All of it has been incredible. The quesabirria tacos are so incredibly flavorful. The meat is so tender. The broth is so magical I drank it after the tacos were gone; no shame in admitting that. The lengua is some of the best I've had and the sauce that came on the lengua was perfection. Balanced spice and acidity. I'd buy bottles of it. The papusas were incredible. The cheese was stringy and flavorful. The toppings inside (I got revuelta and jalapeño) were fresh and flavorful. The salsa and slaw that came with the papusas were equally incredible on their own and made the overall papusa experience fantastic. My on complaint about the papusas is the paper they were served on in the tray. It fell apart from the salsa and juices. I can't wait to try more things like their pizza and family sized offerings!

Brian C.

Yelp
The pupusas were tasty/made to order and the service was friendly. The rest of the food we ordered was good, not great, and the portions were pretty small for the price. Macho bowl was tiny and not very macho. The quesabirria taco was good, but the broth was thin and flavorless. The veggie tacos were good/flavorful. Elote was ok; don't think the corn was fresh (frozen maybe?). Horchata was fine, but I've had better. Didn't like that they charge for a small side of chips (which were pretty basic)...not a deal killer, but also felt nickel & dime-y. Will give it another chance, but not racing back.

Janet F.

Yelp
Yum small but clean little spot in the strip. food is absolutely delicious and I'm happy to go back again and again

Kate G.

Yelp
Oooohhhhhhh Betzy what have you done to me?? I was recently introduced to Quesabirrillas and my world ended. The taco, the cheese, the meat....but OMG THAT BROTH!!! I started out getting them from a Truck but I was crazy craving them one night that said truck was not around. So, I figured someone else has to make them and I searched Yelp and low and behold, I found Betzy's. But what if they were not good. Especially delivered?? Oh no. They were good. In fact they were FREAKING AMAZING. As I write this review, not only have I ordered Betzy's twice this week but she is on my radar again tonight as well. You literally cannot get enough. $19 bucks gets you 3 with broth. And it's enough. Not small portions but big hearty Quesabirillias with enough meat to share some with the dog!! And the best part?!? I murder the word each time I order and they never shun me!!

Alex M.

Yelp
Betzys Tacos is okay, but it doesn't quite hit the mark for authentic Mexican cuisine. The flavors just don't taste genuine, and their sauces lack the heat I expect. It's decent, but there are better options out there.

Alex A.

Yelp
We ordered some carne asada and birria tacos for takeout on a Friday night after some beers down town. They were very good, on par with other places we have tried in the area. The man taking our order over the phone was very friendly. I thought it was super nice how he asked us when we would like the order to be ready (I assume they can only do this when slower). We enjoyed our first experience a lot and will be back to try more!

Marie B.

Yelp
Yummy food from Betzy's! Today I had the Carne asada taco and carnitas taco, and both were scrumptious. Mr B brought home a bean and cheese papusa and the 3 quesabirria tacos. Both were good too. Betzy's is going to be on my weekly lunch rotation!

Nish N.

Yelp
They should call it Betzy's Pupusas instead. They are that good. Wash down with Mexican Coke.

C P.

Yelp
I grew up in LA. Tacos got me through middle school and HS. I never found great tacos in Marin - until now. Betzy is an all star. The food is fantastic. No frills. Just delicious. This is my new favorite spot! The Quesabirria is sublime. Tacos are real Mexico City style. Fresh limes and hot sauce. Fakkkkk!

Nathan C.

Yelp
Place comes correct with the tacos, has hit the spot everytime I've been here. Salsa is the bomb too. Good customer service and fairly short wait time. Stop by if your ever near and you won't be disappointed.

Leigha D.

Yelp
The food is very expensive. The food is Ok San Rafael has too many Mexican restaurants. I really miss the last lunch place that was there before.

Alison B.

Yelp
Papusas have arrived! I have tried the two other places in San Rafael that have Papusas and this one hits the mark. And both the slaw and the pupusa's are sabrosa! OK not the best picture. I took it after diving in. They also have burritos and tacos. The Carnitas we're nicely cooked. They need a bigger and permanent Parklet for sure because more business is coming...
