A Guide to Ann Arbor’s Best Korean Restaurants | Eater Detroit

"At Bewon the menu leans heavily on soups and stews (around 20), and the kimchi mandu chi gae — a kimchi stew with dumplings and beef — is highlighted as an amazing elixir for a nagging cold or a pick-me-up after a long night out." - John Reyes

This is our second time coming to Bewon since the new ownership, and just as before, we had a wonderful experience! The first thing we noticed upon entering was the clean and bright atmosphere. With the new renovations and quiet music, my husband described it as calm, minimalist, and peaceful. We were warmly greeted by staff who are some of the kindest you'll meet. My husband ordered the bibimbap with beef. I ordered the soon tofu jjigae. We ordered soy garlic chicken and japchae with tofu for our young kids. My children are sometimes unwilling to try new foods, but to our delight, they devoured the chicken and japchae with tofu and kept asking for more. I had to try some and agreed that it was very delicious! The chicken was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The japchae with tofu was flavorful! My husband enjoyed his bibimbap. I didn't try it, but I remember how tender and flavorful the beef was from our last visit, plus the veggies tasted freshly prepared. I don't know how to cook Korean food myself (though my mom was a Korean chef) and the soon tofu jjigae was so comforting and tasted like home. After visiting Bewon, I decided to read what others were saying and was surprised by some of the negative reviews on here. I think a lot of negative reviewers are forgetting that this restaurant is just starting out and there is a new chef so there are bound to be some changes. One reviewer complained about the digital menus taking up space, but we appreciated how it made ordering easier, especially with young children. For example, at one point our kids wanted extra drinks in the middle of our meal, and it was so easy to put in that order right then and there. No flagging down staff, no long wait. The same reviewer said that they don't give you a bottle of gochujang sauce but since covid we found that a lot of restaurants serve sauces in individual cups (cleaner and more sanitary than those sticky shared bottles). Besides, why is it hard to simply ask for more gochujang? I'm sure the staff would be more than happy to bring it to you. Speaking of wait time, everything came out quickly, even though the restaurant was busy. From the counter, you can partially see what's going on behind the scenes, and both times we visited, we noticed the chef was hard at work, preparing and cooking food fresh to order, and he does it so skillfully and quickly (so no, the food is not simply reheated and assembled as one reviewer speculated). Someone gave 1 star for having to order from a digital menu and not being offered anything to drink but water, but how is that a fair review? There are paper menus available at Bewon if you prefer (which I sometimes prefer, too). Not being offered anything to drink but water? I wonder if they were expecting free tea, but that's something complimentary and shouldn't be expected. Or perhaps the person missed the entire drinks section on the menu? They offer sweet rice punch, cinnamon punch, Milkis (which my kids were big fans of), and soft drinks. Anyhow, I hope people will give Bewon a try. Just as the former owners had their own bumps along the way when they first started out, they became a beloved restaurant over the years. From what we've experienced so far with the new ownership of Bewon, it is very promising, and we wish good luck and much success to Bewon's new restaurant chef and staff!

Went to Bewon with my husband and we loved it! We tried the hot stone bibimbap, spicy pork, and Korean fried chicken — everything was super tasty. The side dishes were fresh and nicely done too. The place has a really nice vibe, and the service was great. I also liked that you can order straight from the tablet attached to the table, super convenient. I heard the owner used to be a chef at the famous Shilla Hotel in Korea, and honestly, you can tell — the food feels a bit more refined. Definitely planning to come back and will recommend it to others! 😁👍👍

Me and my wife was long time customer of this place when it was previously owned by the original owner. After we moved to different state we will still drive hours back and enjoy the food and memories. Since it’s sold to new owner everything changed and apparently new owner don’t care about the business at all, just go check others reviews. For the rating I would recommend before but not anymore. Feed sad when I come in and see the screen and everything, not longer same place.

(Update 9/5 – Second visit after new management takeover) I decided to give this place another try since some of the old menu items have started making a comeback. This time I ordered the seafood pancake, galbi tang, and soon tofu jigae. Still no wooguhji galbi tang on the menu, but seeing familiar dishes gave me a bit of hope. I was surprised when the seafood pancake showed up in a pizza box. Honestly, it didn’t look very appetizing—it seemed like it was missing enough flour/starch—but it turned out to be delicious. The galbi tang tasted very close to how it used to, no complaints there (though if I’m nitpicking, I wish it was served a little hotter). The soon tofu jigae was actually better than before, which was a nice surprise. Because of these returning dishes, I’m bumping up my overall rating. Now please—bring back the wooguhji galbi tang 🙏🏽! —— First time trying the new menu during their soft opening. I’ve been a loyal Bewon fan since moving to Ann Arbor from Asia five years ago. Their galbi tang and wooguji galbi tang were my go-to comfort dishes—I’ve tried them at many restaurants in and outside Michigan, and Bewon’s were truly the best. It’s disappointing to see those dishes disappear with the change in ownership and renovation. This time I ordered bulgogi and spicy beef stew. The food was fine but nothing stood out. On the positive side, the renovated space feels cleaner and more modern, and the staff were warm and personable. Overall, I’d hesitate to return for the new menu unless some of the beloved classics (like jajangmyeon, seafood pancake, and galbi tang) make their way back.

Contrary to the negative reviews, the experience I had here tonight was wonderful! My husband ordered the Beef Bulgogi Set and I ordered the Yukgaejang meal. He had a Sprite and I ordered the Sikhye. Seriously? I dont understand what the negative reviews were talking about. Its a new owner, new chef, new menu. The food is DELICIOUS. The flavors are bright, fresh, and bold. The Yukgaejang i had was so comforting and provided the perfect amount of heat on a chilly day. My husband hadn't eaten all day because he was busy at work, and he went to TOWN on his meal set. The side dishes were refreshing, the entrees were so filling, and the atmosphere was friendly and comfortable. The timing of the items being brought to the table was perfect, and I loved the convenience of the tablet/table ordering system. Definitely will be coming back and bringing friends. I'm going to try all their dishes if this curated chef's menu is like the entrees we ordered tonight!

Google
Heard that ownership changed, and very evidently so. They used to have plenty of side dishes and a soup (as banchan). Their bulgogi was the best I’d ever had. Now we get carefully rationed three half-slices of pickled cucumbers and soupy bulgogi. I also miss their purple rice! A lot of cost reduction practices are clearly taking place but it feels like a completely different restaurant now. They should’ve changed the name of the restaurant so it wouldn’t mislead returning customers. I miss the old “Bewon”

Google
I just went here for the first time since the old owner retired, and, man, it's SUCH a bummer now. They have these fugly digital menus (and which stay on the entire time you eat and take up part of the table and it just ruins the vibe), and the (dolsot) bibimbap now *barely* crisps up the rice. And they don't even give you a bottle of gochujang sauce! You get a tiny plastic cup of it and have to ask for more (which is just more plastic waste). Super wasteful and stingy. The banchan aren't as tasty anymore either - the kimchi was fine/the same, but the other two were disappointing. They also changed some of the veggies that are in the bibimbap, which is fine but I preferred the old preparation. (I also think they raised the prices, but I'm not 100% positive on that) The only two positive changes I noticed were the switch to metal utensils, which is great, and they now give you a carafe of water instead of having to wait for someone to come refill your cup. Overall a huge plummet in quality and enjoyment. The old Bewon was a 6/5 experience, and this new experience is the pits. 2/5, and I wonder if that's being too generous. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Ann Arbor, and now I don't see myself ever going back.

Google
Came here after a long day and found the most amazing Korean food on the side of town… the friendliest and cleanest place. They even accommodated us during their lunch hour.. started with a great cup of hot tea … the kimchi was amazing along with everything else.. definitely will be coming here a lot more often as I was extremely pleased by the quality and service!

Yelp
Short Story: Likely one of the best Korean places in Ann Arbor! :) Long Story: I came to Ann Arbor back in May for a business trip and wanted to get authentic Korean food! I looked around and found this mom and pop place. The restaurant is cozy and has a non-descript exterior. I ordered the galbi combination which included a salad and miso soup. The price was slightly pricey but worth it for good Korean food. The gabli was grilled almost to perfection though the banchan was a bit small. The salad and miso soup were definitely tasty. Verdict: I'll definitely go back!

Yelp
Came here to meet w/ friends on my last night in Ann Arbor. This place was recommended to me 2 years ago but I didn't have the chance to try until last month. It's in a convenient location, right next to my hotel basically. The restaurant is small but intimate. Service was great! The menu offers a variety but I left unsatisfied. Reason I ordered from Mr. Spots via DoorDash afterwards. This was what we ordered: 1. fried calamari (Mitch and Alexa since they had dinner plans at 6:30) 2. fried dumplings (for John and I) 3. bibimbap (John's entrée) 4. mandu gook The dumplings were fried w/o being too greasy, but it lacked filling. It was mostly crispy dough. My soup had a generous amount of dumplings and rice cakes but it was terribly under seasoned. The dumplings were boiled along w/ the soup, the soup it self lacked flavor but the dumplings were chewy and juicy. Not my cup of tea. Glad I tried it though.

Yelp
We ate there every two weeks when we lived there and food was always good, Service was always the best, Laid back for such a small place. Will always remember their kindness and service.

Yelp
We tried the japchae, kalbi, beef mandu, and bulgogi. I love that they have purple rice. Everything was good, and it is not far from Yoon's bakery. I do slightly prefer another local restaurant but it was still good. Service was friendly.

Yelp
Food was delicious and they packed extra banchan and rice for our catering order. Service was great too

Yelp
Wonderful dolsot bimibap! It's a great mom-and-pop restaurant with generous portions. The owners are very sweet and the atmosphere is relaxing. Would definitely recommend

Yelp
Stopped by on a road trip, and got so lucky! Quiet family ambience, legit Korean fare. Reminded us of being in the quaint neighborhoods of Seoul. Food was delish! Service was excellent! Kind n friendly, and proud. Will stop again soon! Thank you Bewon !

Yelp
Amazing food and incredible service. The staff stayed open for us and made us feel very warm and welcome. Highly Recommend!!

Yelp
Absolutely love the food here and the wonderful Korean family which owns this restaurant. Their food is delicious and comforting in the just-like-grandma-made-it kind of way. The family is always so kind and welcoming as well, generous and thoughtful with their guests. My personal favorite is the combination japchae (glass noodles with vegetables and meat) and Bulgogi. They have great side dishes that come with! I'm also a big fan of their Galbi tang (soup) to soothe and warm the soul on a cold Michigan day. The meat is fall-off-the-bones tender. Their tofu soup is also a very solid option. Understandably, they get pretty busy in between the takeout orders and all their dine-in customers, so dine-in services for dinner can be on the slower side. I thus usually prefer to order takeout. They do a thoughtful job preserving all the side dishes individually in foil, so the taste is just as great with their takeout!

Yelp
Consistently delicious! Grandgirls love dolsot bibimbap as do I. Waitstaff always concerned about it being too large for the girls until they see the empty bowl.

Yelp
This is a small family run restaurant in a small strip mall on the north east side of Ann Arbor. This is a tradition Korean style restaurant. It's dark and outdated, no frills, clear partitions in between tables. The service was ok. They seemed pretty busy with take out orders. The food was ok small portions in my opinion but taste was good. No ice for the water. When I went to pay at the cash register I saw the owner sticking his finger in food and tasting it. It looked like they were having they're dinner and family members were showing up, so I hope he was just tasting their meals. Kinda odd. too many other good options to go back for me.

Yelp
I've been on the search for a new Korean go-to, and I think I found it. Now it may not look like much from the outside, but inside awaits a great experience. The staff were extremely friendly and quick. The food is very authentic and I love that they give you a full set of ban-chan (sides), even 2 types of Kimchi! Our order: Haemul Pajeon (Seafood Pancake), Kimchi Porkbelly, and Dwenjang Soondoobu (Soft tofu stew) Food was great, the porkbelly was a little more lean than in Korea, but still tasty. TLDR: Great for a no-frills genuine Korean meal. If you get something spicy, get the Dwenjang Soondoobu, If you get something salty, get the normal Soondoobu

Yelp
Definitely need to update my review (and rating) for Bewon in 2022: We have been here numerous times since my first review and it's been really positive experiences for the most part. Their bi bim bap and gal be are our favorites. (They're still a bit slow, but not as crazy as our first visit here. Must have just been bad timing.) They have also been exceptionally thoughtful starting from the COVID pandemic/endemic. Even now (Nov 2022) they have tables spaced out and with physical barriers between each. Anyway, this is our favorite Korean family restaurant in Ann Arbor and they deserve 5 stars. One important tip: call the restaurant first if you plan to dine in! During higher COVID outbreak times they still do close the dining area, and have takeout only.

Yelp
Was disappointed in the food. Ordered the Yuk Gae Jang and bulgogi. The flavor was decent but not on par to similar restaurants I've been to in the area. Also everything was so expensive. The bulgogi was $20 and the plate looked half filled. Both my husband and I ordered an entree and left hungry :/ For a $50 bill that doesn't seem right.

Randy I.

Yelp
A little pricey for lunch. Small serving size. Lower value compared to other Korean restaurants
google avatar

Joline C.

Yelp
We came in for a late lunch on Thursday and the dining room is pretty full. The food is really authentic and good value. Service is good given that there is only one person at the counter providing service for the entire dining room. Ambience is just ok since the dining room decor is outdated and plays blend classical music in the background. However, the food is terrific and we had a fantastic lunch.

J U.

Yelp
Great food. Friendly service. Authentic dishes. The restaurant is small and informal.

Yelp
Small place in a small shopping center. They don't accept Amex. It's cozy and has pleasant scent of delicious Korean food, appetizing. We started with the dukboki app and will share the braised mackerel. We decided to share since we have more Koreans spots to hit on this side of town. They gave us barley tea to start after being seated. The glass top keeps shifting on us, could use some 3M clear plastic stoppers. We are hungry and ready to get our Korean on here. Food smells good, wafting from the other tables. The dukboki is delicious, spicy, the rice cakes are nice and chewy and the veggies are julienned. I could easily have eaten the dukboki sauce with just rice alone, it was that good. App amount and just right. The braised mackerel was nicely seasoned and perfectly cooked, cut into pieces. My husband wasn't loving having to take the skin off, wasn't easy or the bones in the fish fillet either. He said he was too much work. It still tasted delicious to me but be carful while eating it that you don't swallow any bones though. Loving the purple rice here too. The banchans were yummy. We had the shredded white radish, seaweed, kimchi, cucumber, potatoes and rolled eggs. They have nice classical music in the background, classy! The pretty stencils of the trees on the walls are a nice touch. They gave us 4 red grapes for our dessert with our bill, they are the nice big juicy ones but has seeds in them. Both our waitress and the owner were attentive.

Eleanor B.

Yelp
They have the best bachang and always willing to refill in addition to their usual entrees

Yelp
This place definitely warrants a repeat. I visited recently at lunchtime while in Ann Arbor and cannot wait to return! The service was friendly and fast, the food was delicious, and the meal hit the spot for all the right reasons. Situated in a small strip mall, Bewon is unassuming, but the word must be out, because this place was packed when we got there at prime lunchtime. After a short wait, we were seated by a friendly server, who appeared to be one of the owners. He got us set up with menus, took care of our drinks, and then brought some small munchies for us as we waited for our meal. I went for the Bokeum Bap, which looked like it would be filling and just a little spicy based on the description in the menu. In person, it looked even better, and the first forkful confirmed that this was a winner. Within about 5 minutes I had eaten the whole thing! I left satisfied and ready for my next trip back to Bewon -- hopefully it will be soon!
google avatar

Rashida K.

Yelp
It was very fresh and tasty- next time I won't accidentally pour soup into my main dish thinking it was like a noodle shop. My favorite things were the kimchi, pickled cucumbers and the beef in my bowl. The owner was very kind and accommodating.

Maria E S.

Yelp
Food is genuine and very tasty. It is family run. Limited number of tables, so we go eat there before rush hours to avoid waiting. Best bibimbab with generous portion of meat and other trimmings (E2 in the menu). Many oriental diners every time we have been there, good recommendation! Service very friendly.

Joan Z.

Yelp
Don't judge this gem by its location! Delicious food, pleasant and fast service. Among all of us, tofu and beef bibimbap, bulgolgi, and japchae all finished to the last crumb of rice. Sides were great.

Julie D.

Yelp
Pretty decent food, but I will never order take-out from Bewon again. Not only did they automatically stuff the bag with plastic utensils and chopsticks, but everything was in large styrofoam containers and the whole thing was in a large plastic bag. C'mon folks, use recyclable materials, and don't automatically add in plastic utensils and chopsticks. Put the food in recyclable plastic or cardboard. Use a paper bag for God's sake! I won't patronize this restaurant until they make this change.

Yelp
Great little Korean restaurant near the Holiday Inn on Plymouth Road. The reasonably priced lunches come with several little yummy side dishes like kimchi, savory mini pancakes and seaweed salad. Service at what I assume is a family-owned is crisp and efficient. You're likely to see plenty of Koreans and Korean-Americans in the dining room, which I took as evidence that the food must be really authentic. My favorite so far is the E3 lunch bowl topped with spicy chargrilled pork and a sunny side up fried egg. I couldn't name all the ingredients, but the flavors all harmonize really well in a sizzling bowl. The sinus-clearing kimchi stew with beef dumplings isn't for the spice-averse, but helped me warm up on a cold fall day. No alcohol served at Bewon, which might be a consideration at dinner time. Not sure if they allow BYOB, but I didn't see anyone else imbibing.
google avatar

Anao Z.

Yelp
Good food overall! I would recommend. Not friendly environment for dine in but def. to go
google avatar

Chuang C.

Yelp
The spicy squids dish reminds me of the dish called squid mouchim. It's kinda spicy but with a little sour in taste. You can eat it with rice or wrapped it with lettuce. Very refreshing. Love this dish.
google avatar

Yelp
Yesterday I went to Bewon with my friend because I heard amazing things about how good their food was. However, maybe because it was overhyped, It didn't meet my expectations We got the ddukboki to start & the rice cakes did not fill up the plate at all. They definitely cheated us on the portion size. I also thought it could've been cooked for longer so that the rice cakes could soak up the flavor. Then I got the yookaejang and my friend got the soybean paste stew . Her stew had this plastic thing in it but we weren't sure what to say to them she just took it out and decided to eat it but stews should definitely NOT have a plastic wrap in them... my yookaejang was good but not anything special. The portion sizes are pretty small compared to some other places, taste is better than places closer to the UM campus. But I definitely had higher expectations. Our server was not friendly and did not look like she wanted to be there. However, the two people who seemed like the owners were very friendly.

Yelp
I lived in AA for five years and Bewon is always my favorite spot in town! Best triple bulgogi and Woo-Guh-Ji Galbi Tang I have ever had! I relocated Boston and I've been searching for Galbi Tang but so far no one can beat Bewon, although I live close to Boston Korean town. For less than 20 bucks you will get a large portion of high quality beef rib, juicy, tender, and delicate. I can taste most of other restaurants only use cheap beef to make Galbi Tang. Their triple bulgogi is so savory! The reason we got triple bulgogi each time is the chicken, beef and pork were so supreme that we wanted to have everything. The sweetness, spicy, classic aroma of barbecue smoky onions and meat, all the flavor are so perfectly balanced. I noticed there are lots customers from South Korea. Always a good sign. I'm Chinese but I really don't appreciate that more and more Korean restaurants are adjusting the flavors to please Chinese and American customers. The owners of the restaurant are so warm-hearted! They can always memorize our favorite dishes and make us feel like home. I am not in Ann Arbor anymore, but I really miss Bewon.
google avatar

Patricia Y.

Yelp
They still give you banchan (the little dishes that come before your main meal) even as a takeout order! We were pleasantly surprised by this. All our other dishes-- the bulgogi, soon tofu, and dukboki- were good, but nothing that blew us out of the park. Really enjoyed their sticky purple rice though! Yet another nice surprise.
google avatar

Ness S.

Yelp
Very friendly service and very good food. Bewon is an unassuming little restaurant in a strip mall next to the holiday inn. As soon as you enter the restaurant you're greeted by a very friendly server and the chef comes out occasionally to check how you're doing. A very nice touch. The food was very good as well. I got the spicy Dol Sot Bibimbap, which was very good. So was the kimchi and side dishes. The tofu appetizer not so much. Very good overall. I highly recommend it.
google avatar

Anya S.

Yelp
This is the best Korean food in the Ann Arbor area hands down. We love coming here and do it for all celebrations. It's always amazing, flavorful, and fast. Best part is the complementary appetizer with delicious seaweed salad, potatoes, scallion pancake, and more. Dolsot bimbimbop is INCREDIBLE. This is a family run business with the nicest owners ever. 10/10 recommend to anyone.

Yelp
After being disappointed so many times by the Korean food selection in Ann Arbor, I finally found a place that is decent. To be fair, the Korean food on campus is catered towards trust fund babies who grew up with a chef in the house, so it's not going to be good (and is always very overpriced). This place is actually pretty good as far any Korean (or any ethnic) food goes in Ann Arbor. They actually have side dishes, like an actual Korean restaurant run by actual Koreans, unlike some of the places on campus that don't give you any side dishes and have two pieces of mushrooms in the sundubu and rely on uncultured children to harvest profit from. The side dishes were very flavorful but the portions were a bit small. Then again, I'm from north Dallas, where there is an abundance of Korean food. The food was delicious, I ordered the soon tofu and my friend ordered the Tofu Ya Chae Bokeum. The portions were somewhat small for the price we paid, but then again, it's Ann Arbor. Everything in this town is weirdly overpriced. The staff were very friendly and although the service was a bit slow, it was a very homey vibe. I would want to bring my parents to this place when they come visit.

Yelp
This review is about multiple visits from two years ago. Unlike my other reviews where I pinpoint what flavors I liked and disliked, this is more about how I felt. No pictures of glistening eggs or colorful vegetables this time. My father grew up in Hawaii and ate a lot of Korean food even though we are not Korean. For the last two weeks of my father's life, he only wanted to eat Korean food. This place was a short distance from his facility so I was here almost daily. He was refusing to eat the food at his facility. My dad is a picky eater but loved getting bibimbap here. Thank you for making his last few weeks more memorable and providing him with food that made him more comfortable.

Mark A.

Yelp
Was staying at the Holiday Inn so decided to check out this restaurant as it is very conveniently located almost next door. I am not overly familiar with Korean food, but I was glad I checked it out as the food was very delicious. The staff was extremely friendly and greeted me as soon as I walked in and the atmosphere in the restaurant made for a pleasant eating experience. I had the Triple Bulgogi, which was based around three meats, Chicken, Pork and Beef, and had rice as well as some other small side dishes. I thought it was tasty and reasonably priced. The restaurant is located in a strip mall by the highway so it is easy to get to and has lots of free parking. They take MasterCard (not sure what else). I would recommend this restaurant if you are in the area and want to try some Korean food.
google avatar

Kelly Y.

Yelp
This is my favorite Korean food in Ann Arbor!! Their side dishes are soooo good. And the bulgolgi and dolsot bibimbap comes out on a sizzling plate. Fast service and everyone is really nice and friendly.

Yelp
A large group of family stopped at Bewon for lunch one afternoon. We had 11 people so we took up almost half of the restaurant. Luckily it was pretty empty when we first got there (though it was starting to get really crowded once we left). The menu includes several traditional Korean dishes that I'm familiar with, but also many that I'd never heard of. I picked the spicy pork as it's one of my favorite Korean dishes. My boyfriend ordered some fried rice, and we got a bunch of other items including teriyaki chicken for the kids, soondubu soup, and dolsot bibimbap. Everything was really good! The banchan was really nice too, with some scallion pancake, seaweed salad, and a couple types of kimchi. The employees working were polite and quick with tea and water refills. Definitely recommend this place! Note that it was a bit difficult to find on Google Maps.
google avatar

Andrea J.

Yelp
The service was great, but the food was mediocre. It felt like a small, family run business. Very simple inside, no frills. I ordered the typical bibimbap but it just seemed to lack flavor. You got the typical side dishes but I left feeling still hungry. Disappointed.
google avatar

Mandy W.

Yelp
Came here for dinner since it looks like a traditional Korean restaurant. The seating area looks small but it can seat a lot of customers. There was maybe a 5 minute wait at 7pm on a Friday night. Not bad. 6 sides were served first. There were a great variety of sides. We ordered dayji bulgogi, galbi, and japchae. Overall, I thought that the portions were smaller than expected. I've had a lot of Korean food in Boston so the portions tend be large. I thought that the portions could be bigger for the price that we are paying. The dayji was good. It could use a little more heat. The galbi definitely satisfied my craving. It didn't have as much char compared to the ones I've had in the past. Otherwise, it would have been perfect. The japchae was fantastic! The server and employees were very friendly. Looks like it might be family owned. Everything is super organized and clean. I would definitely come back. Their menu also served many more things that I have yet to try!

Laufet M.

Yelp
It was a small family run restaurant that was quaint and welcoming. The food was delicious and the prices were very reasonable.

Yelp
Fresh and carefully-prepared dishes, with friendly service! Galbi ribs were flavorful and perfect, purple rice has just-right texture, and they had little pickles/sides attractively included in a lunchbox. Ordered a large takeout lunch for a group and the owner made sure to get everything right, it was ready in less than 15 minutes. They can make some dishes (eg soft tofu stew) vegetarian if you ask. We've come here regularly over the years and will keep it up.

Yelp
BeWon is a simple, unpretentious, family-run restaurant serving authentic Korean dishes. I have come to enjoy the cuisine here several times and have been satisfied each time. The menu is not as extensive as a few places I tried when I was in Seoul, South Korea, the last time (not long ago) but the dishes that are available here they do do very well. I like the owner's philosophy: quality over quantity. I can personally vouch for the shrimp tempura, tofu and beef Bi Bim Bap and bulgogi dinner. My dining companions all enjoyed their dishes. Service was attentive and courteous. Dine here in confidence! Enjoy! ------------------ Disclaimer - I did not receive jack (not even a gyoza) for submitting this review. I have no connection to the owners, other than I can see they are honest, hard-working people. Good luck!

Yelp
I stopped in for a quick bite before volleyball, next door. The seafood pancake was a little salty, but really very good. My fav, so far, in Michigan. The spicy rice cake was cooked well, and spicy. The woman that took my order wasn't very attentive, but I was the only one in there and wasn't hard to get her attention, followed by a big smile. I look forward to going back.

Yelp
Just grabbed a carry out. Absolutely delicious. The different textures and perfectly spiced sliced ribeye were flavor town in my mouth. Beats the Greasy stuff found and a Coney Island. Would definately go back. Just need to photograph What I ate on the menu to remember.

Yelp
Delicious food - 5 stars. We enjoyed the pajeon for an appetizer. Then had the bulgagi beef and jap che for entrees. It was served with two different kinds of kimchi, daicon and other sides - all very tasty. The service was attentive and friendly. Our waiter was very kind when we asked questions about the various dishes. The only downside was the decor. Very "old diner" like. However, it did not take away from our enjoyment of the meal. We'll be back!

Yelp
The service was great! But the food was not that great. I'm used to pretty authentic Korean food so I'm probably biased, and there are so few Ann Arbor Asian places that I really wanted to like it. But the banchan was only okay, and bulgolgi beef was not that flavorful. The restaurant had a friendly approachable ambiance and the waitress was super nice, but I'd say in terms of food it wasn't the best. The fact that they used purple rice was a plus though! Made it all feel fancier.

Yelp
I was in town for work, this place was just around the corner from my hotel. Figured I'd give it a try. Very friendly service, food was awesome. Some of the best, if not the best, bulgogi I've ever had. Go eat here.
