"New York City has a rich array of Turkish food, and for more than 20 years Beyoglu dazzled Upper East Siders from its spacious corner spot on East 81st Street and Third Avenue. On cool summer nights, locals packed the tables and chairs along the sidewalk in front of the restaurant, a sign of the establishment’s enduring popularity. ... The restaurant closed abruptly in the early part of the pandemic after being unable to work out a new lease agreement, but it leaves behind a legion of fans and its long-lasting legacy as a lively neighborhood restaurant." - Eater Staff

"The Upper East Side’s crowd favorite Turkish restaurant Beyoglu has permanently closed after more than two decades. The restaurant, known for its doner kebab, hummus, and traditional Turkish fare, suffered a massive financial hit due to the COVID-19 shutdown on dining-in and was unable to extend its lease." - Tanay Warerkar

I am as happy as a clam! Very tasty meal for lunch special. Lentil soup, babaganoush and lamb meatballs! Delicious! Best meal I’ve had in a while. Meat was tender and juicy. Super reasonably priced too!

Was my birthday today but didn't want to make a fuss about it. My wife mentioned it was my birthday, to (morally) justify the reason of her BYOB wine, and this is what they gave us. Such an unexpected pleasant surprise from the staff, really appreciated. Thank you so much for your warm wishes! Food and service was above and beyond as well. I really liked Lebna and the Iskandar kebab, two of the suggestions from the staff. Absolutely stunning.

Google
I ordered food from this place on Uber Eats and it surpassed ALL my expectations. The food is absolutely delicious, fresh and flavorful. My chicken shish was tender and cooked to perfection. The rice??? Holy.. DELICIOUS. And the Shepherd salad was so fresh and well seasoned. I wish I could give this place 10 stars, and will be visiting the location in person soon. A MUST GO TURKISH SPOT!!! YUMMY

Google
Had lunch here today with co-workers. They have a lunch special that includes and small salad or soup, appetizer and main. Everything was very fresh and delicious. The eggplant appetizer and yogurt with walnut were my absolute favorites. I ordered the chicken shish. The green pepper was super spicy so be careful. I sliced mine up into small pieces and loved it with my chicken shish. The waitress was very attentive. I have only been to the Papa John's on the block but next time I want to come to this restaurant with my husband.

It reminds me so much of Istanbul. Locals eat here, it's gorgeous and nice size servings make it an ideal food lover hangout. I enjoyed my casual lunch here with a Morrocan friend as we enjoyed the eclectic, creative decor.

Google
This is a nice cozy restaurant, the interior is really pretty. The food is good too. We ordered lentil soup, Lebni, spicy vegetables, and a beef shish platter. The appetizers were so good, the soup was good too. They bring homemade warm bread with two different kinds of sauce which are super delicious. The only thing I didn’t like was beef shish(it was so hard to chew I couldn’t even eat one piece. They need to change it) but fortunately our server was super sweet, she helped us through it when I complained about it and bring a dessert (baklava probably homemade was really nice)even though we didn’t ask for it. Overall it was a nice dinner.

Google
Quality good Service good Price fair Decor casual to medium fancy A more formal looking Mediterranean restaurant. Yet still friendly home town service. Not many people when we went so service was great. They had constant take out orders while we were there so the lack of attendence wasn't a function of food quality. We started with avocado salad and the fried zucchini pancakes. The salad was well salad. The pan cakes I'd go back for seconds. Our entries were shrimp on a vodka sauce with cheese and the beef plater. Both were good. We did a take out for our daughter of the beef as well. A couple of things in the menu ran out so we'll have to return to try them.

Google
The lunch specials are phenomenal!!! So much food and every single thing was good!!! Soup or Salad, Appetizer, and Entree for $15!!!!!! Crazy good and affordable in a time where everything is expensive across the board!!! I can only imagine how good the dinners are!! Ana Kebab 😉 👌 Service is hands down on point too!

Yelp
Always great dining experience at this wonderful Turkish restaurant. Delicious Turkish Specialties, nice wine selection Friendly and attentive service , lovely ambiance.

Francis S.

Yelp
Consistently great good, service and ambiance The staff is friendly and the restaurant is inviting! A great place for a large group.

Carolina H.

Yelp
I loved this place! I had passed by here so many times and I just recently decided to try it for date night. Firstly, I was amazed by how inviting the place felt, as well as the people. Our host and waitress was very kind and attentive! She sat us at a perfect spot by the window, made recommendations, and ensured our dinner experience was a good one with her positive energy! Now let's talk food We started with the babaganoush; it was delicious. The bread that was served was also super tasty and fresh. I then tried the lamb shish with yogurt which was also pretty amazing, BUT I did end up feeling full quickly so I didn't get to fully enjoy. Will I be returning here? Absolutely!

Arash F.

Yelp
I had a very simple ask. The grubhub delivery driver only speaks Turkish and hasn't delivered my order. Can you call him and let him know? Response: I called, and he didn't pick up. What do you want me to do. It's not my problem. We have given him the food. What do you expect me to do? Reaction: how could someone in the service industry be so irresponsible, so uncaring, so unhospitable? I would never go to this restaurant in person or order from them again. I simply expect you to call him again!!!

Yelp
Nice interior with nice decorations. We went on a Tues night about 6pm so wasn't busy. It was nice that there was municipal parking in lower level of high-rise building next door and no charge after 6pm. Our dinner was marred by very slow service. There was only 1 waitress plus a person bringing out food ( who didn't look comfortable doing anything but bringing out food). Food also seemed to be coming out of the kitchen very slowly which is unfortunate because the food was good. Our dinner on a not-busy Tues took 2 hours. Each table gets a basket of warm bread with olive oil. We tried the cold hummus ( they have a hot hummus as well). It was good. You do not get pita with the cold hummus, we used the bread from basket which was fine. I order the gyro plate and my husband ordered the Adana with yogurt (hot) . We had a small kunefe for dessert. Food was tasty and reasonably priced. I normally would definitely return but seeing other comments about slow service will make me do the tradeoff in my head of whether it was good enough to be sitting for 1.5 hours just waiting on food or someone to come by to pick up plates. Time will tell.

Chris A.

Yelp
I really wanted to give the Beyoglu Grill 3.5 Stars. Street parking & municipal parking in lower level of high-rise building next door. Simple but nice decorations. Friendly, Authentic Turkish staff. Good to very good versions of the Turkish classics: adana, kebobs, hummus, Shepherd's salad. The MEZZE PLATTER which is a combination of appetizers platter. Hummus, babaganoush, lebni, spicy vegetable, eggplant with sauce is enough for 4 and a great way to try many of the cold apps at once. Prices are comparable to other Turkish restaurants. Full bar

Yelp
Excellent food and large portions. Service was friendly and professional. Ambiance is lovely.

Ameenii M.

Yelp
Excellent service? Check. Tasty food? Check. Great atmosphere? Check. Price? Check. I've ordered pick up from this restaurants several times before, however this was my first time dinning in; food was excellent, our party ordered the mixed grill platter, Baba Ganoosh, lintel soup and Kunafeh -- none disappointed - the gyro was extremely good - tasty, and rightly spiced. Overall great experience, it's not your Saturday night date restaurant, it's an everyday family restaurant or your Saturday night drink and chat place!

Yelp
Grabbed dinner for Mother's Day this past Sunday. Ordered 4 entrees and 2 appetizers. The octopus salad was so delicious, will order 2 next time. I plan on going here on weekends, prices are good and not overly expensive .

Yaira P.

Yelp
I went for the first time for lunch and Everything was Delicious, Great portions and well priced. The staff was friendly and attentive. The environment and decor was beautiful as well. Looking forward to going back. Thank You.

Anna K.

Yelp
Mixed grill platter and appetizer platter was enough food for the two of us to have two meals! The mixed grilled meat platter was served over very buttery rice and roasted tomato. The appetizer platter had six dips and we were glad to try all of them. However our favorite was by far the the Lebni - it was out of this world. Also came with some lovely bread.

Yelp
You can probably find many Turkish restaurants in Cliffside Park area, and among others, when it comes to weekday lunch special, Beyogly is the place. (If it were dinner, we usually opt for Cinar.) We love the Lunch Special menu at Beyoglu. With $11, you get sooooo much - (1) Soup or salad, (2) Appetizer, and (3) Entree. We had : Shepherd Salad, Acili Ezme, Hummus, Adana kebab, & chicken shish. I also love the lentil soup which has a lot of flavor to it. Just wish the Acili Ezme would be a bit spicier. I am not a big fan of Babaganush, so I always go for Acili ezme, Hummus, or Cacik (very similar to tzatziki).

John D.

Yelp
Very good, very fresh food. Came in on a whim passing by. Food took a while to come out but the hot bread they gave as a prelude was delicious and I liked that they gave a jug of water for the table. Waitress was overall pretty attentive and asked if we wanted more bread (is that ever really a question though?) The manti was fresh and tasty, loved the yogurt sauce on top, and the mixed grill was great too. The meats were seasoned well and the shaved lamb as part of the mixed grill was buttery smooth and delicious. Also got a side salad that went great with the hot bread and gave a big portion. Would definitely come back if in the area.

Yelp
Worst customer service ever drove from New York to try me and a friend and we both wanted to order 2 entrees to try things out and take the leftover food they gave us ultimatum to sit on a small table in the middle of the restaurant or nothing because they saving the other tables for 3-4 people tried to explain even if I agree the food will never fit he was rude and we ended up leaving going back to New York horrible customer service before we even order

Yelp
Went for Weekday Lunch Special Food - 5/5. Chicken soup had a delicious broth that becomes even more fragrant when you add the lemon. Bread had good bite to them and the sun-dried tomato dip they came with had a nice pesto consistency. Babaganoush was smooth with good seasoning. Adana kebab had great char on them and the meat was very juicy. The red cabbage slaw had just the right amount of lemon on them for a refreshing and crunchy side. Rice was fluffy and buttery. Service - 4/5. Friendly and fast. Value - 5/5. The lunch specials run at $11 for three courses. Food is delicious and the portion sizes are nice. Great lunch location! Parking - Municipal Garage (Free), Street (Metered)

Yelp
Called this place to order take out for my family who came over to see my newborn daughter... I try to feed my hungry family who wanted chicken chops and lamb gyro more importantly. .. we called near 130 and were to lam gyro won't be available until 3. Tried to call back and then was told won't be ready till 4. 430.... f out of here for this B.S... 2nd call I made near 230 to try to replace the order, lady had the nerve to say, I just work here, I am not the owner. Excuses. .. get on the same dam page with your team / ownership.

Ronu T.

Yelp
I'll start by saying I eat here several times a week, and for a long time. I'd give the kitchen a 5 star, but basically half my orders from this place have been wrong or missing something and that's on the forward facing end of the business. Foods great. Always check your food or your gonna be missing something. If only y'all were professional :( They're also unlikely to pick up your call so I can't even begin to fathom how much business they've lost just by not answering the phone.

Lauren B.

Yelp
Best Turkish food ive ever had. Went for the lunch special and its the best deal in town. Soups, appetizers and entrees were all flavorful and delicious. Excellent service, fast and friendly. Love this place !! Cant wait to come back and try more.

Ally L.

Yelp
We came here Sunday afternoon after I read all the comments here. I do not know who you guys talking about server, but I got amazing service. Melike was our server today; she was all about smiling and answering our questions with patience. We were sad that could not eat iskender bc of shawarma is not ready during that time of the day which makes a lot of sense. But now we had a reason to come back while we are around. We love what we got, only kibbeh was not their best job, other than that we are thankful delicious tasty plates. Thank you so much Melike, keep up with your amazing job!

Hana S.

Yelp
I come here almost every weekend when visiting my mom, their food is amazing and the service is even better. The waiters and waitress treat my mom and I like family and already know our order as soon as we walk in. The food is very clean and only place my mother trusts to eat outside of her kitchen. She gets the chicken shish every time and loves it. The lentil soup is amazing with just the right amount of spices. The salad tastes great! The ambiance is classy and doesn't feel like we're sitting in the middle of a busy Main Street. They also have parking which helps!

Amy Y.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to go to because of the lunch special!! Ive never had anything else here other than the lunch special and I always get the same dish, which is the Adana kebab and you get a soup or salad (the chicken soup is better than the lentil IMO) and on days where I would get the salad over the soup, the shepherds salad (tomatoes and cucumbers) is so refreshing. You also get an appetizer and all the ones I've tried are good but my favorite is the eggplant with sauce. As for the entry, I usually don't like lamb because of the gamey taste but you don't get that here. It comes with rice, which is so buttery and delicious along with pickled red cabbage and a grilled tomato. All this for $11!!

Yelp
My brother and his girlfriend had been raving about their first visit to Beyoglu Grill, so they decided to introduce me to it the other night when we were in need of a dinner destination.  We arrived just under an hour before the kitchen closed and were nervous about how that would affect the quality of the experience.  Well, the service was friendly and quick, without making us feel rushed. We were seated at a spacious table in the casual, Mediterranean-inspired dining room and decided to start with some appetizers.  First, we ordered a plate of smooth and garlicky Babaganoush, which was the perfect topping for their sesame seed-covered, doughy toast.  Since there were 3 of us, we also shared the Octopus Salad entree as a starting course.  Shredded lettuce was topped with onions and tender char-grilled slices of octopus tentacles.  The simple balsamic vinegar and olive oil dressing added just a hint of extra flavor, which was all that was needed.  We then moved onto our main courses, and though my companions both reordered the Lamb Shish that they had enjoyed previously, I opted for the Chicken Shish.  I wound up making the better decision, as my poultry was well-seasoned and moist, while the lamb was flavorful but tough and chewy.  In fact, the couple said that the lamb had been much better prepared on their initial dining experience, so the late hour might have been the culprit for this misstep.  Both grill platters were served over thin flatbread and were accompanied by a red cabbage slaw, singular grilled shishito pepper, and mound of buttery rice, all of which I found light and terrific. Unfortunately, my brother and his girlfriend were not as enthused about their second experience at Beyoglu Grill, but I gladly return...though doing so at an earlier hour would be a better plan.

Yelp
I came here with friends and if the food is okay but the service is terrible like what I just went through you have to post. THE SERVER WAS INCREDIBLY RUDE! HE would get annoyed when we asked for water or more sauce and would say omg really and then we would say what, he would be like nevermind. I worked as a server and there is no reason to have an attitude. Please avoid this place and take your money to anywhere. Service is so important and restaurants close out when they miss this out. PLEASE FIRE THIS GUY, glad I took a picture!!!

Vanessa G.

Yelp
I went to this restaurant with a couple of my friends for dinner Saturday night . I have never had a worse experience with service . My friend asked for a ketchup and the waiter literally said omg, clearly sounded annoyed . I wish that was the worst part . As my friends food was being served another waiter automatically brought us the check along with the food. We let all of this go and even left a great tip, as we did not want to make a big deal out of these two incidents . As we are stepping out my friend is putting on her jacket, and the waiter asks if she isn't going to leave . The worse part is yet to be mentioned . My friend posted a review on yelp and now she literally has someone threatening her. See the picture I attached . Please stay away from this plave.

Justin J.

Yelp
The service was absolutely terrible. They were very rude, we were rushed (waiter gave us the bill in the middle of our entree - Didn't even offer us desert!) They used VERY rude comments when we requested ketchup. The waiter commented, "OMG really?" We said thank you when they gave it to us and the waiter gave us an EXTREMELY dirty look as if he was disgusted. We are a group that ALWAYS tips 20% so we gave 18% instead. As we were putting on our coats to leave, we had a waiter tell my friend, "Can you put your coat on faster?" PLEASE read the comments further below. My friend also just got threatened by one of their servers because she wrote an HONEST review about them! If you have any questions you can ask us. We HIGHLY recommend you stay away from this place. Not worth your time!

Chey T.

Yelp
Came here on a Thursday night ~6:30pm. Only party in the restaurant, with several people picking up take out. Eventually the restaurant filled with a few others Our waiter was extremely friendly, polite and accommodating- he was happy to make suggestions about the menu, share a bit of his culture and we were able to bring our own wine at no charge. We ordered bronzino, octopus, lamb shish, and an order of hummus. Everything was perfectly seasoned, flavorful, fresh and generously portioned. However- our food did take quite a while to be prepared. We were in no rush so it was not at all an issue, but if you were in a hurry it may be something to consider. Would definitely return!

Aurelio D.

Yelp
Great food, speedy service, clean and cozy restaurant, the staff is always friendly and welcoming.

Sara H.

Yelp
Good food. Try the kunfee, so good! I didn't love their manti or the chicken adana. Better options for both elsewhere. They gyro was delicious. Would try again.

Jalize C.

Yelp
Beyoglu has incredible Turkish cuisine. I usually order their Chicken Shish or Lentil Soup and both are very tasty. Their chicken shish is marinated well and it comes with basmati rice and cabbage. Their basmati rice is my favorite, I actually wish they'd put more on the plate haha. The lentil soup is outstanding! Definitely recommend.

Marge T.

Yelp
First time and won't be the last time. Walk in and the nice aroma hits you. 4 people sitting at a table for 6, nice and comfy. We shared: Coban SHEPHERD SALAD - LARGE, fabulous eggplant fry, delicious; hummus VERY GOOD a few other things, all good I shared a fabulous pasta & veggie dish, which I will have again. SO GOOD. No dessert since we were full and wanted to watch the debate. Nice staff. GREAT DINNER!!!

Alice N.

Yelp
This establish is by far one of my favorites. Not only is the ambiance really nice but the food is delicious. Whether you order at the restaurant or order from home they go above and beyond.. I ordered from home and we received the order in a timely manner... they gave us more than enough bread unlike some places that like to skimp out.. and they even gave us a mask that stated "stay safe". I mean if that isn't caring for the community and going above and beyond, i dont know what is.

Iraya C.

Yelp
Really great food!! Everything was fresh, they missed the mark on service. I asked if their dessert came in a smaller serving and instead of accommodating a smaller portion request they just told me not to order it.

Timothy L.

Yelp
My wife & I have been very fond of Turkish food ever since we visited Turkey back in 2010. We've been coming to this restaurant for the past 6 years, mostly for lunch. We like the price-fixed for the choices and value. The lunch price used to be $12, including tax back 6-7 years ago. At the start of the Pandemic, it was increased to $13, and tax was added on, even though the print on the menu indicated that tax is included. We came back here today for lunch again and the price has gone up $15 Inc Tax (that's how it was printed on the menu). The food was very nice and we noticed that the service has improved (used to be kind of slow with just one person doing the wait service). When the bill came, I noticed that tax was added on; so I questioned the wait staff as the tax issue contradicts what is printed on the menu. The manager (or owner) intervened with a negative attitude. Meanwhile, I noticed that he started to cross off the Inc Tax part on all the menus. I used my credit card to pay the bill; the manager came back and told us that we will not be welcomed to visit his restaurant again. We are a bit shocked & disappointed with the display of arrogance by this business owner.

Peipei Y.

Yelp
Went there for a family member's bday dinner. We had early dinner so the restaurant was empty but our table. Which brought us good services. The food was ok, We had over 15 people, ordered many things but none of them was outstanding, we had much better dishes for everything we ordered. Overall, there's nothing remarkable or bad.

C G.

Yelp
Very happy with the service, food and decor. We ordered items that we've never tried and we weren't disappointed. Ordered the lunch special which included the Shepard salad, hummus, and chicken Adana. The portions were perfect and everything Was delicious. Looking forward to returning

Iris C.

Yelp
Love this place. The food is absolutely delicious. The chicken kebab platter, the shepherds salad. My favorites. The hummus is amazing as well.

Gabrielle C.

Yelp
Good lunch special and it's also byo. The lentil soup is amazing and the food is always consistent

David B.

Yelp
I just called now to order some food from this place for the first time since I saw the good reviews and that the price was cheaper than Avo's grill that's right across the street. When I called a woman picked up and said for me to hold on because their systems were down . I stood on hold for awhile and I can hear them taking another order ( which I understand) but then I hear the phone ring and as the line was answered I was hung up on . It's a shitty feeling to be excited about a place u never tried and because of their carelessness you have a completely different POV on the restaurant... I am giving this 3 stars because afterwards I got a call back and although they can work on getting a better system, the food is delicious and it's healthy. I would recommend this place to go eat in... delivery experience can be better.

fatma s.

Yelp
Great food, great Turkish hospitality. It's a busy restaurant over the weekends. Our table was taken care of by multiple waiters and they had micomunication between each other on the orders and asked the same questions twice. It might be only that night. I would recommend the owner to assign only one waiter per table.

Kristina K.

Yelp
Out 3 neighborhoods this Turkish restaurants the best one. "fort lee, Edgewater, and Cliffside park" It is always fresh and yummy. And I mean to say all menus is delicious. My favorite dishes from there "lentil soup, babaganush, fried liver, manti, mix kebab grill, Adana kebab, all deserts are great. Lunch special is amazing.

B B.

Yelp
Incredible!!!!!!!! The food was fresh and delicious! I am in love with this place and will definitely go back. Recommend it to people who love meat and Mediterranean food. Great job!

Vanessa V.

Yelp
I have eaten here a couple of times and also had it delivered. Always consistently delicious and the staff is super friendly! If you love soup, highly recommend their chicken soup!!! My new obsession from them.

Ralph B.

Yelp
Great lunch ! I loved how fresh everything tasted. The hummus was perfect, and the waitress was a sweetheart. She suggested the eggplant appetizer because I wanted to try something new and it was delicious, perfectly made and very tasty. The entrees me and my girlfriend got were also very well composed and for lunch at the price point this is a very good deal. The rice was really good and the ground chicken that I had was a bit spicy but very bold in flavor. Thank you Beyoglu your waitress rocks!!!

Chloe J.

Yelp
Visiting Ny in the summer is the best, but the street traffic watching at this bistro is amazing! The food is authentic and perfectly prepared. Get the appetizer platter and kabobs!! Definitely have dessert and sit outside if you can!! Service is also fast and friendly

Emily S.

Yelp
Awesome lunch specials for $13!! Love the food quality and variety The rice and cacik are my favorite!! Will be returning again for lunch!

Cindy F.

Yelp
I've eaten in this restaurant on two occasions both for lunch, and have also ordered delivery from this restaurant twice for dinner. The restaurant is decorated beautifully. The first time I went there I was pregnant and the food was delicious and the restaurant was warm and relaxing. I recently went again and the waiters were very helpful carrying my daughters stroller into the restaurant. The delivery came rather quickly, and was just as delicious as it was in the restaurant. The first time I ordered they even threw in a rice pudding for my husband and myself which was wonderful. I'm definite going to be frequenting this restaurant again. Menu items I really enjoy are the hummus, Shepard salad with feta cheese, and the Adana kabobs. I can't wait to sample more items. The rice pudding is also a tempting delight. Remember it's also BYOB!!!

Leni K.

Yelp
Surprisingly spacious restaurant with spot-on eats. Between the Chicken Shish and Adana, go for the Adana! It comes with pilaf rice, red cabbage salad, and a fiery hot long green pepper. Definitely beware of the pepper! It's delicious and satisfyingly spicy, but best eaten in tiny bites. The Chicken Shish is nicely charred and cubes of white meat. It pairs very well with the Okra dish, which is simmered in a tangy, acidic tomato base. Overall, the portions are solid for the price. We went on a quiet and slow Sunday night with Turkish music playing softly in the background. The waiter forgot my drink, and service was a bit slow for such a relaxed night, but this place seems legit.

Shaker A.

Yelp
Terrible service. Only ppl in the restaurant and it took an hour and 30 minutes to get our order out. Even when some of our food was ready some of the order was wither missing or mistaken. Order a medium steak and a rock solid piece of cardboard came out. Luke warm water. The only thing they didn't mistake was $1 coke bottles. Overall, 2 out of 10 experience. Poop

Doris P.

Yelp
Wow, this place definitely surprised me. They have the best lunch special deals, comes with a soup or salad of choice, dip, plus an entree. The food was absolutely delicious. We tried the chicken shish And adana along with the babaganoush and spicy vegetable dip. Their fresh bread was so addicting. They have a full bar plus lots of TVS to watch sports. The waitresses were so accomodating even though I was just getting take out. I'm gonna be back soon to dine-in!

Nura F.

Yelp
Good food nice quiet environment the shush kebab was amazing and the falafel was good but the bread was a little burned
