Our team took a food tour in Red Bank with Beyond the Plate Food Tours, led by the owner, Alessia, and it was a deliciously memorable experience. She was knowledgeable, easy to talk to, and showed us some local gems we probably wouldn’t have discovered on our own while giving us the history of the food scene in Red Bank.
We started at Toast Diner with the off-menu Shamewich (eggs, pork roll, cheese between two pancakes) and a mimosa.
At Mi Lupita’s, my favorite stop, we tried choriqueso, elote, birria tacos, chicken taquitos, and fresh juices. They import their corn and make tortillas by hand, which you can really taste.
At the B2 Bistro, the seasonal margarita was excellent. Jersey Girl Cookies hand-delivered, branded with our work logo, cookies to us there before we headed out, which was a thoughtful last touch.
Overall, it was a well-organized, enjoyable tour with great food and a guide who truly knows the foodie communities of New Jersey. I’d happily recommend it to anyone visiting Red Bank, Jersey City or Somerville.
