This bakery is conveniently located inside 99 Ranch supermarket, so easy to get some baked goods while you do your Asian ingredients shopping.
We tried this place out two times and unfortunately, the items that we got left something to be desired.
The first time, my partner got a slice of mango and green tea cake. We were both looking forward to try both slices, as we have both eaten numerous Asian-inspired cakes (domestically and in Asia) and know they are good and usually not too sweet. I only tried the mango slice, but I was disappointed. The cake tasted like nothing at all, but was not too sweet and light. Felt like eating sugar really.
I decided to give this place one more try as sometimes there may a fluke when giving a place a first try. So yesterday, I bought a loaf of wheat bread, one pork floss and scallion bun and a chocolate croissant.
Unfortunately, again, many items did not cut it for me. The pork floss and scallion bun was drowning in mayo and just tasted too rich and gunky for me. I am not a big fan of a lot of mayo, so this bun did not work for me. The chocolate croissant was super dry (and slightly burnt) and tasted nothing like a croissant. It was not flaky, buttery or moist and and bun just basically fell apart when you took a bite with flakes everywhere.
The only redeeming quality on this purchase was the wheat bread. This was a solid item and tastes similar to the Asian style wheat breads I have had in the past.
While this place is convenient and inside 99 Ranch and there is an enticing display of all the pastries and baked goods, I am afraid I am not going to take the bait again. I may get another loaf of bread when needed, but will pass on the pastry items.
