"There’s no shortage of seafood places in Mumbai. After all, this megalopolis started as a fishing village. Bharat Excellensea is an over three-decades-old spot that trumps all other seafood institutions in Fort. Here, the fish is uber fresh, the service is instantly friendly, and you won’t find their scrape-the-plate-clean prawn curry with unripe mango, onions, tomatoes, and green chillies anywhere else in the city. The dish is the perfect launch to a meal that delivers nothing but piscine hits, like kane ghee roast and gassi with neer dosas and appam. The two-level dining room has an “anything goes” vibe that somehow feels fitting, with murals of blue glass fish and caricatures of commuters jostling on a local train. So give in to the roomy couches and forever fun pop soundtrack, and settle in with a fruity-tart kokumtini, which pairs well with the catch of the day. " - roshni bajaj sanghvi

My friend surprised me by bringing me to a restaurant he used to visit during his student days. The experience was far way better than I expected for a student favorite! A long time old restaurant in this area he meant. Although the space is a bit limited, they've arranged it well to give a very cozy atmosphere . The restaurant has two floors, it is quite low so confused me a little bit at first. The seafood was excellent—no complaints at all. Prices were reasonable, and we had a great time for two people. Highly recommended!

I was invited to lunch at this restaurant by a local friend during my trip to Mumbai, and it was my first experience dining at a seafood restaurant in India. While the low ceiling in the upstairs seating area felt a bit confining and the air conditioning blew uncomfortably cold air directly onto my face, the restaurant overall has a warm, inviting atmosphere with a solid sense of authenticity. One unique aspect is the way the waiter presents a tray of fresh, raw seafood before you order, which highlights their confidence in the quality and freshness of their offerings. Among the dishes I tried, the Bombay Duck stood out the most. It was my first time tasting this delicacy, and I’d compare it to Dover Sole. The flavor was subtle and distinct, completely unlike any Indian cuisine I’ve had before.

I frequently visit this restaurant, known for its seafood. However, as I don't eat seafood, I often select other non-vegetarian and vegetarian dishes. The Chicken Lollipop is a personal favorite. I also recommend the Chicken Ghee Roast, Neer Dosa, and Bebinca with Ice Cream. The service is prompt, the staff friendly, though the prices are somewhat high.

Very poor service and even poor food! crab soup has too many shells pieces which almost bruised by tongue - appams were cold and dry - fish curry (their USP) was average tasting - only saving grace was their solkandi. We then opted for Chinese and the rice was very oily salty and full of soda and they gave us chicken Manchurian gravy with no chicken in it! They said we minced the chicken in it! Wat rubbish! I recommend please do not go. Their upper seating anywys looks illegal construction - can someone help me how can I raise an issue with BMC

Was told this was one of the costliest seafood restaurants in South Mumbai so I had to see what was the hype. There are two seating floors and we were told to sit on the first floor despite preferring the ground floor which was empty. The seating arrangments were very sombre, and the mood lightings were amazing, but they could work on that low ceiling of theirs and the obnoxious 2010 music choices. Before we even ordered our food, a huge lady sauntered in with a tray full of fish and live crabs to explain the house specials. After some deliberation with her, we decided on tempura prawns, rawa fish tikka, rawa gussi, neer dosa and chicken biryani. 1) The tempura prawn wasn't authethic at all, and neither was it Tiger Prawns, but I appreciated the crisp taste nevertheless. 2) The rawa fish tikka was absolutely mouth watering, and was so soft and broke apart on the knife that it tasted like paneer. The masala was good too, but the portion size left much to be desired. It was twice as less than a normal one. 3) The fish gussi and neer dosa is something I don't have much of an opinion of, it was tolerable at best for someone who doesn't like seafood. 4) The chicken biryani was splendid but I do think the portion size was atrocious as you can see in the pictures. Overall, it was an experience with quick service and tasty seafood.

Great place to come and enjoy seafood. They have live crabs to choose from. Even if you are not a seafood person they have some really good options in chicken and mutton. The service is a bit slow but the food is worth the wait. I'm saying this as we were the only ones in the restaurant yet it took pretty long for our order to come. Other than that everything was perfect. Everything we ordered was excellent even the variety or pickles laid on the table were amazing. There is a really clean and well kept washroom. Valet parking is also available.

Only 2 staff managing the front services on a busy Sunday. The menu card card was given, however most of the items were not available. Further, the wait time was enormously high.. good was cold, and uncooked.. pathetic service, food and over all very bad experience. Never visit.
