The 26 Best Restaurants In Mumbai

"There’s no shortage of seafood places in Mumbai. After all, this megalopolis started as a fishing village. Bharat Excellensea is an over three-decades-old spot that trumps all other seafood institutions in Fort. Here, the fish is uber fresh, the service is instantly friendly, and you won’t find their scrape-the-plate-clean prawn curry with unripe mango, onions, tomatoes, and green chillies anywhere else in the city. The dish is the perfect launch to a meal that delivers nothing but piscine hits, like kane ghee roast and gassi with neer dosas and appam. The two-level dining room has an “anything goes” vibe that somehow feels fitting, with murals of blue glass fish and caricatures of commuters jostling on a local train. So give in to the roomy couches and forever fun pop soundtrack, and settle in with a fruity-tart kokumtini, which pairs well with the catch of the day. " - roshni bajaj sanghvi

Good, cozy place for a seafood meal. The Mangalorean and Konkani dishes are authentic and full of flavor. Quick service and a family-friendly dining vibe make it a nice spot for casual outings. The seafood is fresh and really tasty. Ambiance is decent — nothing fancy, but comfortable. Definitely worth visiting if you enjoy coastal cuisine!

Located across two floors this 35 year old restaurant serves very good sea food at reasonable prices. Menu is large innovative and well representing southern India. Hygiene and cleanliness is well attended. Service is helpful, courteous and professional. Asian kitchen closes at 4PM, restricting the options. Only upper floor section was open for dining where movement is a bit difficult given all those overhead structures.

An unforgettable seafood experience at Bharat Excellensea! This iconic spot in Fort, Mumbai truly lives up to its legendary status. We started with the rich and comforting Madras Seafood Shorba, followed by the perfectly crisp and spiced Squid Pepper Fry. The Rawas Masala Fry with Neer Dosa was a beautiful balance of flavor and texture a must-try! The highlight was the Surmai Gassi with Appam hands down one of the best gassis I’ve had till date. The Prawns Biryani was packed with flavor and the portion was generous. We wrapped up our meal with the refreshing Elaneer Payasam, which was the perfect light and creamy finish. Their cocktails and mocktails were just as impressive refreshing, well-balanced, and paired perfectly with the food. Service was warm, quick, and attentive, and the ambiance felt like a comforting coastal escape. Whether you’re a seafood lover or just want to explore the best of coastal cuisine, Bharat Excellensea is an absolute must-visit! 🐟🦐💙

An average restaurant at fort, visited it on a Sunday looking at the many reviews. At 12 noon when we reached ,the place was almost empty with only 2 families ,and when we left around 1.30 PM place was available for walk-ins. The is not a big place may be can accommodate 50 to 70 people. The initial problem I faced was there was no water in the washroom, they had kept bottle of water to use. They bring raw fishes to show us the quality & size and we can select he fish that we want. We felt the service to be prompt, but the rate are expensive for the food, service & location ,it costed us around RS1200 per person Our orders surmai Tawa (we had told Rawa ) Good Prawns Gasi average Butter garlic crab -good Bombil fry average Chicken biryani average

The malai chicken was excellent and the tandoori rawas was very savoury. The mocktails we ordered were very creative and delicious. Towards the end of our meal, we had ordered a crab, however, when we got the dish, we were served crab meat instead of the proper crab, but it still tasted amazing. Would dine here again. Staff was very nice and friendly and atmosphere was quiet and calm. Great restaurant in general.

This 36-year-old restaurant in Fort is a delight for all seafood lovers. The legendary Bharat Excellensea serves all kinds of seafood, cooked in exquisite South Indian regional flavours from Clams and Calamari to Bombil and prawns. My favourites here were the Chicken Gassi with Neer Dosa, Peoper Fry Calamari, Crab Soup and their Payasam. This place is pretty renowned in the area for its food that is traditional yet modern, the polished ambience and of course, the crabs by the doorway. Check it out if you’re a fan of coastal flavours.

Just experienced a fantastic meal at the iconic Bharat Excellensea, a 35-year-old gem in Mumbai's Ballard Estate! The restaurant has been recently revamped, and the ambiance is now even more inviting. But the real star is the food! As a self-proclaimed seafood addict, I was in heaven. I sampled a wide range of dishes, each bursting with flavor and freshness. The Tom Kha Soup was a fragrant and comforting start. The Prawns Butter Garlic were perfectly cooked and incredibly flavorful. The *Yellow Chili Prawns packed a delicious spicy punch. The Surmai Masala Fry was a classic done exceptionally well. The Thalasseri Clams were a fiery delight, showcasing the flavors of Kerala. The Rawas Gassi was a rich and creamy Mangalorean-style curry. The Neer Dosa and Appam were the perfect accompaniments to soak up the delicious gravies. But the real surprise was the Sitaphal Tricones Holige! This innovative dessert was a delightful fusion of Indian and modern flavors. A must-try! Overall: Bharat Excellensea is a must-visit for any seafood lover in Mumbai. The restaurant offers a wide variety of fresh, flavorful dishes with influences from across India's coastal regions. The recent revamp has enhanced the dining experience, making it a perfect spot for a special occasion or a memorable meal. Highly recommended!

We had the seafood thali , taste was great had clamps, squid and prawns , one neer dosa , and boiled rice , it was all filling and we liked it however for the cost would expect minimum two neer dosa in one plate and little more curry , we order more just to feel complete thali . the buttermilk was sad .Best part was the mouth freshener given in the end , was great overall experience.
