"Bi-Rite Market is opening its third and largest location at 2140 Polk Street. The store, which will also serve as company headquarters, offers fresh produce, pantry items, pre-made foods, and made-to-order sandwiches. Unique to this location is a full-service fish counter, as opposed to a butcher counter. It also features a deep cheese selection, charcuterie, and ice cream pints from Bi-Rite Creamery. The store aims to adapt its offerings based on neighborhood requests." - Dianne de Guzman

"Last October, Bi-Rite Market shared the news that it purchased Real Foods Co. at 2140 Polk Street, with plans to move into the space in 2023. Now there’s finally an update on that front: Bi-Rite’s footprint will be even bigger with the inclusion of the adjacent storefront at 2134 Polk Street." - Dianne de Guzman

Bi-rite is a treat. The produce is local, sustainable, and picked with care. I find lots of interesting and unique fruits and vegetables, and I appreciate that they aren't wrapped in plastic. Shopping here is a splurge, but if I can afford it I want to support responsible vendors that are kind to animals, people, and the environment. I'm surprised by the outrage about pricing: bi-rite doesn't claim to be a value supermarket. I don't shop here for my daily needs, but the prepared foods are tasty. I've bought the chicken noodle soup + chocolate honeycomb squares as a care package for my friends that are currently sick. Welcome to the neighborhood, bi-rite!

May 2025 Trendy grocery category that's been gaining a bit more popularity nowadays with the younger generation. A more stylish and niche type of specialized grocer that leans towards sustainable produce and more crafted takeaways. Displays are well stocked and visually appealing. This store mainly centers on food indredients and has no counters often found in other groceries though.

Super super over priced! Like why? A simple chain bread, 2-3 dollars more than normal price. Frozen pizza for $17, overpriced veggies and fruit. Chips overpriced. Not sure why they are still in business. Nothing too special. The prepared meals are nice, but also - again too expensive. If items were super special or unique i would understand, but no. A simple small piece of carrot cake $10, in a basic plastic container. Nope

Absolutely revolting. I bought portobello mushrooms here and within hours, Mold was already spreading like a science experiment gone wrong, and when I flipped one over—pus oozed out. Yes, actual pus. I nearly threw up. It’s horrifying that the health department hasn’t shut this place down. It feels like anyone with money can run a market, even if they’re selling spoiled food. This place is a walking health code violation. Never again.

Welcome! I’ve shopped at all the BiRites in San Francisco. This one is the largest. It’s strong points are the grab & go salads and take home foods as well as heat up complete meals. I also love the housemade baked goods. The layout hasn’t changed very much from the previous Real Foods market. I do like BiRite for their community support and 18 Reasons non-profit education space in the Mission. This indie market is locally owned too. I wish the prices were a little bit lower, however. But with having a meat and deli counter, BiRite seems to all bases covered except no Ice Cream scoop shop :( as they used to have at their NOPA store. Most sad about that since we need it in the neighborhood.

I just waited 30 min for my sandwich. No other orders were completed during this time. I can’t imagine how long the people who ordered after me must have waited. The real kicker is how bad most of the products grocery products are. The chocolate, naan, and many other things I’ve tried are just bad. And of course each item is triple the price of similar items at other stores. Only come here if you enjoy disappointment. Go to Trader Joe’s 5 blocks down the street instead.

Hi-value foods, so bring enough money as a Fat Cat. It would be better if they could offer special normal priced offerings around the store to balance out their refined choices at higher prices, although earned prices. I suggest this to the management so at the end of shopping, I don't feel like I spent too much. Good lighting, easy layout. Good experience.

Surprisingly large selection since the vast majority (maybe all?) of their goods are sourced from CA. Prices are a bit high but it makes sense with the local sourcing and quality.
