The Best Breakfast Sandwiches In Chicago - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Steak and eggs might be a popular NASA astronaut breakfast, but we don’t have to go to space to get it. Instead, we like grabbing a steak, egg, and cheese from either of Bia’s Cafe Marianao two locations (one in Irving Park and another in Dunning). The highlight of this casual Cuban spot’s breakfast sandwich is the steak that's thinly sliced, juicy, and peppery. But it wouldn’t be complete without a great supporting cast of grilled onions, tomato, melted cheese, and a crackly long roll. Feel free to also order a colada for the perfect morning pick-me-up." - john ringor, veda kilaru

Bia's Cafe Marianao Review - Irving Park - Chicago - The Infatuation

"One of the best ways to eat steak and eggs is in sandwich form at Bia’s Cafe Marianao in Irving Park (there's also another location in Dunning). It's out favorite thing at this counter service Cuban spot—thinly sliced, juicy, and peppery steak, and a great supporting cast of grilled onions, tomato, melted cheese, and a crackly long roll. They also have a tasty Cubano as well some delicious churros and pastelitos filled with guava and cheese. And if you need a pick-me up, feel free to get a colada, too." - John Ringor

It's a little Cuban treasure that will fill anybody's taste for a morning sandwich. A small cozy place, affordable prices with the flavor from a giant place, service is great and the food is excellent. Update, before it was great, now is not worth it, the sandwiches taste like cheap ham on dry bread, I open the sandwich twice and I count 3 thin slices of ham, the coffee?, was so bad, I think McDonalds make much better coffee. Honestly, I do not recommend this place anymore.

Google
When this place first opened, I think the quality of the food was better. I order the ham, egg, and cheese sandwich and over time it has gotten worse. The eggs are always burned now, and I'm getting a taste of vinegar which makes me think they're cooking the steak sandwiches right with the ham egg and cheese and there's some cross contamination.

Today, I had the pleasure of stopping by Bia’s Café Marianao on my way to the car dealership, and I’m so glad I did! With such glowing reviews online, I had high expectations—and this café exceeded all of them. The atmosphere is truly transcendent, instantly transporting you to Cuba with its vibrant energy and the sound of happy conversations all around. It’s a place where the joy is infectious. The food? Absolutely incredible. The tostones chips are to die for, and the double Cuban sandwich was one of the best I’ve ever had—perfectly balanced flavors that left me wanting more. One thing that confused me at first was the ordering process. I wasn’t sure if they came to the table to take your order or if you ordered at the counter. It turns out you order at the counter and then find a seat—no big deal once I figured it out. The staff was friendly, attentive, and clearly took pride in making everyone feel welcome. The café was clean and well-maintained, with great music that added to the vibe without overpowering conversation. Overall, this place is a gem. If you’re looking for amazing Cuban food, a warm atmosphere, and great service, Bia’s Café Marianao is the place to be. I’ll definitely be back!

Google
I had a fantastic experience at Bias Café in Marianao! The food was absolutely delicious—fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared. Everything I tried was cooked to perfection, and the portions were generous. But the highlight for me was the mamey milkshake—it was rich, creamy, and full of authentic flavor. Definitely one of the best I’ve had! The atmosphere was welcoming, and the service was friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for great food and a truly delicious milkshake. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Google
The food was great. It was fresh, cooked perfectly and hot. Some flavor was missing, but this was better than my usual torta I get from other restaurants. The price was better too.

Google
An absolute gem. Great Cuban food at a fantastic price point in this day and age. The double steak with cheese runs less than $11 and is a ton of food, enough for 2 meals for some people. They also have empanadas, yuca fries, plantains, and croquettes as well as coffee. Friendly. Fast service as well. Only bummer is I often think about this place in the evenings and they close at 4pm!

Norma Rodriguez

Google
I was brought to this place and it’s been a blessing. The food is amazing and always on point. It’s a ways from my home. But I always manage to take the drive as it’s well worth it. Never disappoints. I would give this place 10 stars if possible.

Google
It's conveniently located near my workplace. The steak sandwich is delicious. The double steak is even better. Prices are the best. Very affordable and the sandwiches are very filling.

Yelp
Stopped here with the family for lunch, we got steak sandwiches, tostones, fries, chicken empanadas, and for drinks we got a cafe con leche and a passion fruit tea. Everything was amazing especially the steak sandwiches! We also met the owner Marcos very nice guy, you can really tell that this place is a staple in the community and for a good reason...food atmosphere and the people, all dope. Don't snooze on Bia's we were going to hit johnnies beef down the street but decided to try something new and very glad we did!! 10/10

Yelp
I'm in town from Miami, Florida (home of many authentic Cuban restaurants) and I have to say that this restaurant's steak sandwich is the real deal and delicious! The staff is also very friendly and welcoming. I'll definitely be back again

Yelp
Great coffee, if ethnic style sweetened speaks to you. Good Cuban sandwiches & more are tasty & can hit the spot. Two bummers: their homemade BBQ sauce is not available till later morning and parking is unavailable out front. But since the Metra construction is still not complete, if you can walk a lil' you'll find some on the corner. Wish they had an area of the street held just for them or with a temporary 20 min zone. There are more than one Cuban sandwich joints in Chicago. It's worth it to try them all. Better hours in da Chi.

Yelp
Great customer service! I had the steak and cheese sandwich but the bread was soggy I expected my sandwich to be toasted. The establishment is cozy and they are friendly.

Yelp
This is an authentic sandwich shop with no frills and delicious food. When you walk in there are locals eating at the small tables or lined up for their takeout. It took some time to take our orders because they were so busy. We had takeout double steak and double cubans. My first bite of steak was filled with rich beefy flavours. The hot sauces were really spicy and I loved them. The cuban was also very good but I hate to admit it but I preferred the steak slightly. You can't go wrong with the sandwiches but make sure you use all the hot sauces because they enhance the flavours.

Yelp
When I worked closer to the financial district, I used to go to Cafecito's locations on Wells and Roosevelt, but that seems like a lifetime ago. So it's been tough to get a decent Cubano or Vieja Ropa samwich. I'm also a big fan of the Philly cheese steak, I love beef and cheese and onions and peppers, etc. so when I saw that Bia's has both sandwiches, along with credible reviews and ratings, I said to myself, "Get yourself over there and get some pronto." There's plenty of pahking on Addison St., fyi. Inside, there are a few tables and there's a long table along the wall, where you can grab a stool and have your meal. You order upfront and they'll bring your food to you. I'm really into protein so I got double meat on both sandwiches. The Cubano comes with roasted ham and ham slices, along with cheese and mustard. The steak sandwich is really where it's at - so tasty and flavored just right. Between the two - the steak sandwich reigns supreme. The empanadas were a little underwhelming but at least I gave them a shot. I believe it's byob, not 100 percent sure though, fact check before you bring your Schlitz. Hope to be back asap and go Cubbies!!

Yelp
The steak sandwich and the Cuban sandwich are absolutely delicious. I would definitely order them both again.
google avatar

Yelp
Doubling up the meat on a medianoche is the absolute best price to happiness ratio of any sandwich in Chicago. Adding a cafe con leche (easy sugar) makes it Last Meal worthy.
google avatar

Jon B.

Yelp
The food here is enticing , mind you I'm a bit bias. I've been eating sandwiches here since I was very young. The service is great they are quite busy so plan ahead for parking and seating is limited so be ready. The ambiance is like you'd expect for a delicious cafe , could include some music but maybe it was turned down. Try it out it makes for a great meal for breakfast lunch or dinner but take it to go!!

Yelp
Delicious Cuban sammiches and great tasting coffee. Got the double steak and the reviews didn't disappoint. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Friendly staff, great food and fast service! Always one of my first stops when visiting the Chicago area. Highly recommended. Oh and definitely get yourself some pastelitos!!

Yelp
I loved this place! I drove by multiple times and never stopped and then finally did and got an assortment of sandwiches, empanadas, and of course, amazing coffee. I have now gone back several times because the sandwiches are crave worthy. And the coffee is outstanding. A little gem in the middle of our own neighborhood! Thanks to the Shop for opening up and being here!

Mindy G.

Yelp
We tried this for the first time tonight and had a little of almost everything. Delicious! Amazing food. Friendly people. We will be back!

Hayley Z.

Yelp
Just ordered a sandwich, and sadly it's bland as hell. It's usually after 12pm where it's not as good but I was unfortunately wrong. And they periodically forget to add my sauce for the sandwich!! Anyways. It's hit or miss at this point.
google avatar

Josephina R.

Yelp
Food is usually always good. I always order double meat otherwise I feel like the normal amount is never enough. I get the steak and cheese, add an egg and eat with both hot sauces they provide. They only give one of each hot sauce, if you want both. If you want more you'll have to ask. The only negative thing I can say about this place is when you get there, if there isn't someone at the counter, they just have you awkwardly waiting there until that person shows up. There's usually always someone up front, but I guess that person isn't always the cashier, so you just kinda smile and stare at each other awkwardly. I feel like a simple "someone will be right with you" makes such a huge difference, when it comes to customer service, so at least people know they're not being ignored. That's the only reason I have 4/5 stars.
google avatar

Anooj S.

Yelp
Fantastic services and sandwiches! Both the cubano and steak sandwich with cheese were flavorful and nicely portioned. Although I don't enjoy ham normally, the cubano was very good. Would highly recommend and I'm looking forward to the next time I am in the area.
google avatar

Bernardette S.

Yelp
Really enjoyed coming here!!! This is the first Cuban spot I visit while being in Chicago sometime. I was craving a pastelito de guava and pan con mantequilla. I will say, I wasn't disappointed!!! They not the same as in Miami but near enough! The ambiance was clean, vibrant and the service was wonderful. Looking forward to visiting again!

Yelp
I have wanted to try this cafe for a while and I finally did it. Got the steak sandwich, guava BBQ sandwich, chicken and beef empanada, cortadito, and passion fruit ice tea. Steak sandwich had very authentic taste/flavor and very generous amount of meat. Guava bbq was ok but will not recommend nor will try again... Passion fruit ice tea is a must!!! Delicious

Yelp
A bit out of the way for me and worth the trip. Sandwiches are top notch and you really can't beat the value of

Yelp
I've been eyeing this place since I noticed it a few months ago. Today I thought it'd be good to give it a shot. I knew nothing of the place other than it smelled good. Going in, the staff the was polite, conversational, and recommended me what they thought was the best. I got a Steak sandwich with cheese, fries, and a churro. All that cost me like $13 ($17 with tip). The fries were amazing, even came with a home made sauce. The sandwich was insane, the texture and flavor was wild. The churro left a little more to be desired, but a $2 churro while I wait for my food was fine by me. All in all, I am excited to eat here again!
google avatar

Vanessa M.

Yelp
The food and service is exceptional. Best Cuban sandwich and coffee and drinks in town. The owner and his staff will go over and beyond to make sure feel welcome with a smile and positive attitude. The ambiance is bright comfortable. They offer catering for all occasions. Highly recommend!

Mamii B.

Yelp
I want to give it NO STARS... because you cannot tell me that that's not what the hell that is. I was so disgusted I'm never eating from these restaurants ever again

Yelp
During the pandemic, I think my partner and I ordered from "Bia's Cafe Marianao" via the third party delivery services the most in comparison to any other restaurants out there. Their steak and cheese sandwich is SO good and I never get tired of it! The funny thing is that I have never been to either of their physical location for dine-in or takeout, though I passed by the establishment many, many times on Addison. I recently discovered that their fruit smoothies are also delicious and not overly sweet. That may be my new pregnancy craving! I have tried most their flavors and my favorite one is the passion fruit. My partner usually gets the egg sandwich, the bread with butter, and the cuban coffee. Their items are priced fairly and the portion is appropriate for a regular individual's appetite. Sometimes we receive the green and red salad for dipping the sandwich with. The green salad is quite spicy and very addicting. With the dine-in starts to open back up and the summertime approaches, I would like to pay a visit over there and enjoy the food fresh off the kitchen. Well, I will still continue ordering from "Bia's Cafe Marianao" via UberEats or DoorDash if I opt to stay at home.

Thomas G.

Yelp
Really enjoyed this small cafe. Had a Cuban sandwich and it was terrific! It's a tough sandwich to get right in my view and Bia's was excellent. Great to see a small business like this doing well. As we sat there eating our lunch there was a constant stream of patrons picking up take out or ordering in. After eating that great sandwich, it was easy to see why that was the case!!
google avatar

Kristen C.

Yelp
Ordered the double cuban. Tasty sandwich with a lot of flavor. Go with the double if you're hungry...you won't regret it!
google avatar

Herminio M.

Yelp
Good sandwiches and cafe con leche. Little Friendly neighborhood spot. Love the Cuban Sandwiches
google avatar

Susan S.

Yelp
The red sauce is Smokey. Split a cheesesteak with onion and tomato. Hot sauce added to the sandwich. Had half a Cuban sandwich ham, cheese and pickle. Went after high schoolers got out. Loudspanish music playing .
google avatar

Lynn M.

Yelp
Came here for take out during noon. They had a long line during pick up. So we figured it should be good if it's packed during a week day. We got the chicken sandwich This was big! Really filling the chicken was thinly sliced topped with tomatoes, onions, Mayo and cheese that was melted. I got a side of hot sauce and it was perfect! Double steak with cheese sandwich: my fiancé thought this was the perfect sandwich. The meat was very juicy and cooked well. This was topped with tomatoes, onions and added pickles. We will definitely be coming back here again!
google avatar

Mayo M.

Yelp
The double steak sandwich with cheese is as good a sandwich as you'll find anywhere. Ranked Top 10 in Chicago by Chicago Magazine we had to check it out and we we not disappointed. Steak is tender and perfectly seasoned. Bread is toasted and similar to what you'd find with a Cuban sandwich. Comes with a few in house salsas that provide a great compliment to the sandwich. We love it and have returned a few times...
google avatar

Priscilla R.

Yelp
The Steak sandwiches hit right every time. I never get tired of it. Even ordering on door dash it's still fresh when it gets to me.

Yelp
We are on a mission.. not a mission from God (Blue brothers rules ha ha). We are on a mission for a really great cup of coffee and today it continues. On a suggestion and positive yelp reviews, we made the drive to Bia's Cafe and well... AMAZING!!!!! It was well worth the trip and I'm counting down the days until I go back. This is located in the area of Milwaukee / Addison by the high school and located right on the corner. Parking can be a little tight, but we found street parking without too much difficulty. The place has a very warm vibe and Cuba related decor. It almost feels like you're stepping into a little place you found on vacation and getting a coffee before your day gets started. The employees are very friendly and prompt. I came her for the coffee, but will come back for the sandwiches (plus a coffee). I got a coffee con leche and it blew me away. Such a strong, yet comforting taste. I loved it and at $3 is well priced. Now the sandwiches...I need a steak sandwich like NOW and if looked awesome. The guy next to me was eating a ham, egg and cheese sandwich and I almost ordered one on the spot ha ha. I tried a Churro and it rocked! As my quest continues, I keep finding new and awesome places. Put this one on your list for sure!
google avatar

Yelp
Steak sandwich with extra tomato and onion & a large passion fruit smoothie, I could eat this all day every day
google avatar

Liz K.

Yelp
I've been coming here for quite a while and it seems every time I go there is less and less meat on the sandwich. It's a real treat for me to eat outside of my home so I think I'll be taking my business elsewhere. To a restaurant that has fear portions to what they're charging. It's a shame because the flavors on point.
google avatar

Sofia P.

Yelp
i'm updating my review because i am unfortunately disappointed in the customer service... they made me a coffee with almond milk (which i hate) instead of oat milk and when i let them know next time i went the guy just said oh well sorry about that. i literally paid for your mistake and i don't like that--it's not kind and bad business.
google avatar

Gino W.

Yelp
While going up Milwaukee Avenue, just at Addison is this café that is all good. On my first visit, I stopped in for a cubano and a chicken empanada. The empanada came with a guava barbecue sauce. The cubano sandwich was outstanding, very reminiscent of the cubano sandwiches I had in Miami and a few that I had in Brooklyn. On the next visit, I had a media noche and a café con leche. I'm officially hooked on the media noche and it was nice having a café con leche that wasn't heavy handed with sugar. This may be my stop for getting Cuban sandwiches. I still have to try the steak and cheese. Bia's Café Marianao seems to get a lot of business. There is a steady flow of patrons coming and going, a lot getting orders for take-away. Nevertheless, I recommend them highly.
google avatar

Mark E.

Yelp
This place is like Miami personified, it's only a shame they're not using actual Cuban bread. The price is a steal, the flavors and the quality are great, and the staff is all super friendly and attentive. I could eat their Cubanos all day every day and drink coladas and be happy as can be. I'm so thankful for finding this place. They're probably the best Cuban sandwich shop in all of Chicago.
google avatar

Phil S.

Yelp
New BBQ Chicken Guava sandwich for $4.25 + tax. Are you kidding me? You can't beat this. The only issue is parking is tough because there is a factory on the next block over and the streets around it requires resident parking. The BBQ Chicken Guava sandwich is very good with a slight sweetness of the Guava infused in the chicken meat. Add a hot Chili Habanero sauce and viola delicioso I prefer the double steak, but the chicken sandwich is very good.
google avatar

Ana V.

Yelp
This place has the exact same taste as the original Mariana, no difference in that, which is absolutely delicious, got empanada also and yeah those were good too

Kaylee M.

Yelp
I love their double steak sandwich and their coffee. I go here at least once a week. It's very affordable too !
google avatar

Yelp
Every time I got back to my city this is my first stop when I land.... Love the steak sandwich bread real toasted yummy! Coffee so good, good customer service and services are quick and cheap! Give it 100%
google avatar

Monica R.

Yelp
If you haven't been here you're missing out! I have made it a at least once a month visit! My favorite is their steak sandwich and hot coffee it's mouth watering and for a while you can't talk to anyone bc you're so focused on your food! And their empanadas are a cherry on top
google avatar

Jimmy P.

Yelp
This place is legit. Great food, real people who want to give their best. IGNORE! A!##$$ like people called Justin, petty, angry, can't be pleased for nothing. Just go to their profile and see who they are. 99% of their reviews are negative. That says everything about a person like this.

Joseph T.

Yelp
Great food. Love that it's in my neighborhood! If you order a Cuban sandwich get the extra meat! It's so good !
google avatar

Tom G.

Yelp
I saw this restaurant on Chicago's Best on WGN and said to myself "I had to try this place" and I wasn't disappointed. They feature the steak sandwich and the Cubano sandwich. There is an ongoing friendly rivalry who has the best sandwich the steak sandwich for the brother or the Cubano that the sister makes. I tried both with a friend and they were very good it was hard to pick the winner. I would go back again in a heartbeat. It's a fast paced place with Latin music in the background. They get you in and out very quickly. The owner and the staff is very friendly and helpful with the menu.
google avatar

Robert H.

Yelp
First time stopping in and most definitely wont be the last. Awesome spot for a quick bite or to grab a cup of coffee. My wife and I both had the Cuban sandwich and it was . The best Cuban sandwich, by far. I had a taste for some coffee, so I tried a Cortadito... and that was too. Service was great and the place was clean. I highly recommend checking out this spot if you haven't already.
google avatar

Petrina S.

Yelp
Some of the best breakfast Sandwiches made fresh or the Cuban Sandwich for Lunch. Just as you'd expect very tasty! Best tips call ahead and pick up. Parking in the back and because of Covid you have to walk around to the Narragansett entrance which is ok because you can exit to your parking. Friendly staff and clean place...love it! Sandwich De Bistec Ham, Egg and Cheese Sandwich, Cuban Sandwich and their Cafe con leche mmmm. *UPDATE Addison and Narragansett location. I'm speaking about
google avatar

Yelp
Chicago might be known for its Italian beef's but after living here my whole life I think I found my favorite sandwich in all of Chicago. The Steak sandwich here is INCREDIBLE. I recently moved to Irving Park and was delighted to find this joint nearby. The staff is always friendly and the food here is incredible. My wife is partial to the Cuban sandwich. I order here once a week and look forward to it every time!

Yelp
I have ordered from here over the last 8 months from the cuban to the extra steak sandwiches Lord mercy! Coffe is delicious or pastelitos de guayaba and cheese!!! Try it all and enjoy! There's nothing in there menu I haven't enjoyed a 100% Take the chance and try them if you haven't yet!!!!
