Our dining with Danyel was the absolute highlight of our visit to Maastricht. Can't wait to come back.
Edit: Two days ago we came back, exactly after one year. It’s such an awesome place:
Our dinner at Danyel in Maastricht was pure magic from the first moment. The beautiful Christmas decoration set a warm and festive mood, and the whole evening became the highlight of our trip. In truth, it was the main reason we came.
The opening bite was perfect: an oyster with shiitake and a precise hint of acid that made us smile at each other. The coconut seafood soup with mussels and shrimps was full of aroma and cooked with exact timing.
The Sauerbraten was a revelation. I say it with love, but not even my mother could match this depth and comfort. True craftsmanship.
Dessert lifted the evening even higher. A crème brûlée with a crust caramelized right up to the limit, cracking beautifully under the spoon. It brought us straight back to our wedding dinner twenty-three years ago. The smooth caramel ice cream beside it rounded everything with quiet elegance. A torch used with absolute confidence.
One thing made the evening especially personal. The Chef and the Sommelier themselves presented and explained each course and each wine. That direct connection added warmth and intention to every plate and every glass. And the fact that the entire restaurant is run by a team of only three people is remarkable. You feel the professionalism in every detail. Only absolute experts can pull this off so effortlessly.
We enjoyed eight courses, and I am not even listing them all. Every single one delivered.
We cannot wait to return and bring friends to this special place.
