Cambodian national dish, fish amok, is Malaysia’s equivalent to otak. I tried otak for the first time here today at Bibik’s Kitchen and they make it very good. If you are ever in Siem Reap, Cambodia, visiting the Angkor Wat Temple and have a craving for otak, just head to Malis Restaurant and order their fish amok and I can guarantee you that you’ll be satisfied. Their sago coconut milk dessert bubur cha cha is excellent.
I went on a Sunday afternoon and I got a seat right away. I ordered a soup (fish maw and fishball), a mango salad, some rice, and a dessert. The fishball is of good quality but next time, I will only get fish maw. The salad had way too much mint leaves and it was making it taste bitter. About 70% less mint and 70% less shallots for the salad would be perfect. I thought that it could do with a little more sauce as well. The dessert was served warm, coconut milk with different colored sweet potatoes, sago, and banana. I really liked it.
