Best Chinese Hot Pot and Korean Barbecue in Charlotte | Eater Carolinas

"Though this isn’t exactly a Korean hot pot restaurant, it does offer traditional Korean sundubu, a sizzling red-orange stew containing tofu, noodles, veggies, and a raw egg. Or choose from traditional pork broth ramen or milmyeon, a simple cold noodle soup dish. The Ballantyne location makes it a great pit stop before catching a flick at Regal Stonecrest movie theaters nearby." - Shindy Chen

Google
Smaller menu selection, very easy to navigate options. Dishes were tasty, and flavorful. Side of honey dip seems to go well with everything. Service was basic, but quick and suitable for the menu and atmosphere.

Google
I love Korean food and since I got here it’s been hard to find a good place. I decided to go there for my lunch break and I wasn’t disappointed. Food was great and prepared with good timing. Would definitely have it for lunch more often.

Google
So excited for a great bulgogi beef Bibimbap. The flavors were all on point. The fried dumplings had a beautiful mixture of pork and cabbage with a delicious dipping sauce. We each had a bibimbap, one chicken the other beef. The red chili paste is an excellent addition. We also tried the house cocktail. So refreshing and delicious. Definitely a place to try. This will become my New favorite Bibimbap place

Google
Absolutely loved BimBim in Ballantyne! The food was amazing especially the bulgogi beef, dumplings and pickled daikon radish. Everything was fresh and flavorful. The place was super clean, and the staff was so friendly and welcoming. Definitely coming back!

Google
Came here about 2 weeks ago with some friends. Got the spicy cold noodles and it was decent. I wish it was more spicy but I’m sure they have to cater to the public. Very nice servers.

Google
This place is awesome! The food is spectacular, and the service is 🤌🏾🤌🏾🤌🏾! We love it here. Try the Ramen, the traditional beef soup, and anything else on the menu -- it's all great! We tease them about the music, but it's all in good fun. The ladies are super friendly and make every visit enjoyable. 😊

Google
I have gotten both the Kimchi Mul Milmyeon and the Kimchi Bibim Milmyeon, both are very refreshing and the noodles are the perfect texture. Staff are very nice and the prices are good!

Google
Great place for Bibimbap. The staff is very friendly too. The menu is limited, so you need to be cognizant of that if someone in your group doesn't want traditional Korean.

Yelp
I go here on a regular basis. The food is fabulous and the owners and wait staff are always friendly.

Yelp
My third time here...and this time I brought my husband. We both ordered Dolsot Bibimbap...1 Bulgogi, and 1 Spicy Chicken. We also ordered Fried Mandoo and Ice Cream Sandwich w/ JeonByeong to share. Well, both my husband and I loved the Dolsot Bibimbap...and we both agreed that this place has the best Bibimbap in Charlotte. We also enjoyed the Fried Mandoo and the dessert as well. As always, this place hits everything you can ask for in a restaurant...from nice ambiance (though they could use some wall decor-accents) and good overhead music, to fresh, delicious foods (all beautifully presented) and fast, attentive service. Definitely deserves 5 stars...again!

Yelp
Cooked to perfection, flavors exceeded expectations! My wife and I ordered the Chicken Gangjeong, Bulgolgi Beef Ramen, Bulgolgi Beef Dolsot Bibimbap. Everything came out fast and Hot. We were so happy leaving not feeling stuffed after having a great portion of food. Highly recommended

Yelp
Super delicious food! I got tteok fries and sweet & spicy fried chicken for delivery a little while back, and it was delicious!! The rice cakes were perfectly chewy and had a nice crispy texture on the outside, and the dipping sauces were great. The fried chicken was flavorful and not too spicy. Hope to get their food again soon!

Yelp
My kids and I love Bibim. We order from them at least once a week. Our usual order contains of Korean corn dogs, mandoo, beef bibimbap with soup, ramen and etc. Everything we have tasted has been fresh, delicious and of high quality. This is a fast dinner or lunch for us when we are busy and they never disappoint. If you have not been and want to give Korean a try, I highly recommend them.

Yelp
I had an amazing food experience here! I absolutely love Korean food and when my friend mentioned this place to go, I did not hesitate to say yes! I wanted to try everything on the menu! But I tried to practice self control and I went ahead and ordered a lot of appetizers so I could try those! Everything and I mean everything was delicious! The meat for the gimbap was bulgogi beef and it was so tasty. I got my dumplings steamed and they were filled with pork and they were cooked to perfection! I also got kimchi and white rice. Finally, the gimmari was amazing! They are crispy seaweed noodle rolls and I just kept eating them and the sauce they came with was delicious as well! I am definitely coming back to try more items on the menu!
google avatar

Yelp
Very yummy! We stopped here to try the Korean corn dog. It was delicious! We tried a few appetizers. The gimbap was our favorite! Definitely worth the visit!

Yelp
We were visiting Charlotte and desperately needed our Korean fix from where we currently live. We heard great things about this newer spot. We were there a little late in the evening so it was quiet with a few customers. The place overall is very clean and well put together. We were welcomed with smiles from the staff. Our staples for ordering is usually the dolsot bibimbap and soondubu jigae. They both came out piping hot as you'd expect, and the spiciness was perfect. We also tried their tteokbokki, which I kinda wished there was more in a plate but it's probably for the best to not have too much and spoil the meal. The one thing I would say for feedback is there was no banchan or roasted corn tea, which was a bummer they didn't have but it's not something to knock down a star for. If we come back to Charlotte, we will without hesitation come back!

Yelp
Food was alright. Service was friendly enough but a little lacking. Establishment was clean.

Yelp
Amazing service and staff! Super friendly and knowledgeable waitress that was able to explain the dishes we asked about and delivered exactly what we requested. I brought my sister here for her birthday so she could try something new out of her comfort zone. She loved her Dolsot Bibimbap with chicken and soy sauce. It was something she had never seen or even heard of before and she thought it was delicious! I had the same with tofu and Gochujang sauce it was very good, I would have liked the tofu to be crunchy but with all the steam in the bowl I am not sure how that would be possible. It was delicious and I would recommend and get again. We had the Gangjeong KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) for appetizer and it was sticky sweet with a little kick of spice. We almost fought over the last piece but it was her birthday so I let her have it. Definitely good dipped in the Gochjang sauce for more spice! The waitress was so kind and brought my sister a slice of cake with a candle as a gift for her birthday! The restaurant is very nice and easy to get in and out. The restaurant looks to do a lots of both takeout and dine in orders so definitely check them out!

Yelp
Best place we've found in Charlotte area for Dolsot Bibimbap. This is quite a drive from where we live, but we enjoy Korean food and saw the good Yelp reviews and wanted to try it. Beer menu is typical for Asian places - standard Japanese beers (don't expect local IPA's here). We started with the Kimchi Jeon ($14) and the three of us really enjoyed it. My bride and I both ordered the same thing, the Dolsot Bibimbap ($18) with chicken....but I ordered the spicy version. My MIL ordered the Deopbap and added an egg ($20). All of us enjoyed our food and dining experience. Solid spot for Bibimbap.....we will be back!

Yelp
I love this place! I'm so glad I found this gem in the Bally area! Their bibim reminds me of this one place I used to go in Koreatown in New York! Owner is so sweet and attentive and the food is always delicious. I've gone so many times and although it's a tiny restaurant I hope they prosper and open a bigger location. Bathrooms are always clean and ambience is always great!

Yelp
The atmosphere is really nice - huge upgrade from the former kabob place that used to occupy the space. The staff was really friendly and accommodating. The food was very good - delicious, all fresh ingredients, and prepared just right. Ballantyne was lacking a Korean place but this nailed it!

Yelp
The staff are friendly and helpful. They greeted us with smiles and a warm welcome. I find the interiors to be beautiful and simple with mixed elements of wood and metal. I ordered the classic Beef Bibimbap which I loved so much paired with the refreshing grape drink. The plating looked so perfect that you might think it was going to be used for a product shoot. The vegies blended all so well. Not overpowering one another but was a melody of flavors while still being individually tasty. The rice was soft and cooked to the right texture. The beef was tender and seasoned well. The egg was nothing short but perfection with runny yolk topped with a hint of sesame seeds. All mixed together that delivered a wonderful symphony of flavors in every bite while every instrument was still distinctive. Drizzled with their homemade ssamjang. Delicious! My wife had the Sundubu which was actually way better than what we were expecting. So flavorful and rich that was balanced by the soft silky tofu. I'm looking forward to seeing this business thrive and expand!

Yelp
I had the pleasure of coming by BimBim last night for dinner. The restaurant is small, but gives it a cozy, family, warm feeling. Even though the restaurant was busy, I was seated right away. The staff were very friendly, attentive, and helpful. For starters I ordered the gimbap and the fried mandoo. Both were fresh and delicious. If you're going to get the mandoo, fried is the way to do it! They were pan fried perfection! For my main I order the BimBimBap with bulgogi beef with soy sauce. The dish is beautifully prepared and is almost too pretty to eat. The ingredients were fresh and the soy sauce was the perfect compliment to the dish. I cannot wait for my next visit. If you are looking for a hearty, fresh, and delicious meal, this is the place! They are closed on Sunday.

Yelp
We ordered Dolsot Bibimbap with Bulgogi beef, soy sauce, and gochujang and Hotteok for dessert. Wished the rice was able to get crusty in the stone bowl. Hotteok was a little greasy and I would have liked more filling. Otherwise, everything was great. No banchan. Staff were nice and polite. High chairs are available. You get a discount if you pay with cash!

Yelp
A place to grab something quick. This is more like a light meal place - does not have the mini appetizers like traditional Korean restaurants do, and the menu selection is limited. The appetizers - we ordered rice stick and corn dog - were great. Actually better than expected. They were nicely flavored and served beautifully. The Bibimbap was fine. Nothing too impressive but everything was correctly done. The portion was descent as well. Our server was super nice; however we were the only table by then as well so got a pretty "concentrated" service.
google avatar

Yelp
This is such a great little spot for a lunch date! Casual but still a nice looking place nothing too fancy. Service was great they answered all our questions and the food came out so fast even when they were busy at 7:00 pm on Sunday. Prices in my opinion were better than most Korean restaurants. Still on expensive side but cheaper than most. I did like how much meat they had for their bibimbap! Most places skimp out on that! Our total came out to under $50 for 3 apps, 1 entree, and a soda.

Yelp
The chicken "gangeon" . ..not sure of the spelling but definitely sure about the taste! It was delicious! The service was fast and friendly. I went for lunch and dinner in the same day! Guess what...I'm on my way back again today! I'm addicted!

Yelp
There are few places in this city i get to highlight that my black ass can walk into and not be met with dirty looks or the casual too scared to interract. Fortunately this is one of them. Despite coming in my gym clothing a sweaty mess for pickup i was greeted and directed to the proper place for pickup orders . The entire staff was uber friendly despite my appearance. It made me feel a warm welcome like distant friends i haven't seen in years. The sheer professionalism, cleanliness of factilites, and overall vibe of this establishment let me know i shouldn't have picked up food i should've dined in. Im not too saavy on korean food but this stuff was fuego. I relished in every bite. The heat , the sauce , the umami. It was pure bliss in a box ive only oft found at the bottom of a bottle. I don't know how they achieved such an algorithm of powerful but non overlapping flavours, and phenomenal establishment that is only shadowed by the brightness of their hardworking staff. But fuck id be hard pressed to find a Korean bistro that can compete with this place.

Yelp
A friend of mine recommended I try the Sundubu and I'm so thankful she did! Wow, its like a spicy bowl of silken tofu hugs. Sooo comforting on a cold night. I also tried the Gimbap and it was very good. Looking forward to trying more menu items .

Yelp
Great choice if you're craving Korean in the Ballantyne area. I love that they have the Dolsot Bibimbap, and it comes out crackling in the hot stone bowl. The Tteok fries are fun and I really like that they are served with two sauces, the honey and the spicy/sweet sauce which is most likely a gochujang base. It's a small, clean restaurant in a decent location. The prices felt like they could be a tad better, but I am overall happy with my experience there.

Victor L. F.

Yelp
I went there two years ago and the Ken she is just fabulous. It's just delicious. The Korean ribs is absolutely delicious. The sushi come see different from the Japanese. It's also delicious the five chickens of lol it's just outrageous and the soup they have is so tempted must go in and see yourself

Yelp
Parking is very limited and spaces are tight.but the experience definitely outshines. Welcomed immediately with a genuine smile. Of course we had questions and our server, was patient and explained well. The food came out in sync cooks, sever, and drinks. Clean...table, chair, glasses-Spotless, restrooms, cook area, back of the house CLEAN...Important for me..appetizers, food were wins.... AND that drink. This drink is a must two or three of these order ahead. "The Green Grape" the Crushed Pear Juice is also nice.

Yelp
We enjoy going to Bibim. I know that it's the type of place that if I were able to go more frequently they would remember my order.

Yelp
Glad there is more Asian food popping into Charlotte. The family came from the Ktown of Queens, NY to Queen City. Simple menu of comfort Korean selection like bibimbap.

Emily L.

Yelp
Cute and cozy inside. Service was very friendly and quick. Unsweetened green tea was FRESH and authentic. We got the kimchi pancakes and bimimbap, both amazing. Fresh food!
google avatar

Deniece K.

Yelp

Yelp
Dolsot Bibimbap with beef and gochujang. Very well prepared well seasoned. The egg and rice was awesome. Hotteok and Ice cream perfection! Very easy Recommendation!

Yelp
Really good Korean food. Everything came out fresh and popping hot. The ladies who work here are super nice and friendly as well. Definitely coming back !

Yelp
So delicious! We had the bibimbap tteok & mandoo & it was all delicious. I'll definitely be visiting again
google avatar

Danbi P.

Yelp
Local Korean couple run restaurant serving up Korean bibim bap and more in a cute place. Really enjoyed the dolsot bibim bap and the chicken appetizer. I have been back a number of times to try the tteokboki and ramen, all very good. I think the pork dolsot is my favorite so far, its already seasoned, so I usually do not add any additional sauce to it, but they provide so you can add to your taste. You can order kimchi as a side but they do not have the "free banchan" you might see at other korean restaurants. Free easy parking in front of the restaurant and family-friendly service.
google avatar

Trapgod N.

Yelp
Finally got to try the restaurant and I was not disappointed. The fried chicken bites with their glaze sauce was terrific definitely a must get. I also got the bibimbap tofu the tofu was marinated with some kind of sweet sauce it was so good. Can't wait to come back and try their other dishes!
google avatar

Sam S.

Yelp
I was disappointed, the chicken was hard and not tender also the beef bulgogi lacked flavor. After expressing how the food was to the waitress had nothing to say! I will not return. An entree plus and an appetizer with sparkling water $38
google avatar

Tina T.

Yelp
This place was very modern in terms of their inside decor. It was a very relaxing yet sophisticated atmosphere when you walk in. Our server was very sweet and friendly, always making sure we had everything and checked in on us. The food was soothing to the soul, especially on a cold winter day. We ordered the rice cake (not pictured) and it was a good level of spiciness. For the tofu soup, I would've liked the tofu to be softer but it still was packed with flavor. Overall, it's not a bad place to get your fix of Korean cuisine!
google avatar

Stephen P.

Yelp
Friendly service, flavorful food with nice portion sizes and the prices were a decent value for the amount of food you received. Our server wore a smile the entire time and checked on us frequently to make sure we were enjoying our time there and kept our drinks refilled without waiting. Really enjoyed trying a variety of new dishes based on our server's recommendations and will definitely come back to try a few more things as the quality of both the food and the service no doubt warrant a return trip.

Yelp
The first thing we noticed was the 92.5 Health grade, but it was too late to go somewhere else, so we decided to stay and just try the food out. Little quaint place. Nice atmosphere. Nice wait staff. We wanted korean food other than the usual KBBQ. We found this place and decided to give it a try. Ordered 2 Deopbap dishes, $18 each, spicy pork, and beef bulgogi. Taste was good, but felt food is catered to the American palate and not as authentic. No banchan offered, so we got a little side dish of kimchi, $3, but taste was on point. Radish, also $3, was a bit dry and sliced thicker than usual. Gochujang sauce was quite watered down. Overall, the place gives you a taste of Korean food, but it is Americanized. They were quite busy, and the service and food was okay.

Yelp
I only have one word.......for this dynamite Korean place where i only get the dolsot bibimbap with plenty of free parking.....bibimtastic!

Yelp
Fantastic Korean food and healthy! I have been waiting for an authentic Korean restaurant to open in Charlotte for 12 years. My hubby and I have been to Bibim at least 5-7 times since it opened. All the dishes are fantastic especially the kimchi Jeon and Bibimbop Pork Dolsot! The gimbap and mando is also very yummy. Great ramen also if you like really spicy. The service is excellent and very clean environment . Best food outside of S Korea and Flushing NY. The chef had an amazing restaurant in Flushing NY and i had no idea until I asked if he worked anywhere else. I ate at his restaurant in Flushing and had no idea he opened a restaurant in Charlotte. Highly recommended for excellent fresh food
google avatar

Norah H.

Yelp
The food came quickly and hot n ready! The sundubu was amazing and super flavorful. It came with rice on the side that was steamed perfectly! The tteok fries weren't the best; they lacked flavor in both the fries and the sauce that came with. The green tea was warm and refreshing. Overall a great experience with an upbeat vibe inside!

Jessica Y.

Yelp
Yummy food and great service! This hit the spot for my friend who was visiting and used to live in Korea

Raymond C.

Yelp
Consider #1 tofu soup in Charlotte, very good soup and rice is really amazing, perfect for to the tofu soup!

Yelp
Ramen on a rainy day. Choose this spot with a friend of mine and thought we'd try something new. Couldn't go wrong with the pork ramen. It was great and service was quick and attentive.

Jasmine Y.

Yelp
I went in for lunch this morning and the staff were all very kind and attentive. For their Summer Special Menu I enjoyed the kimchi mul milmyeon which was just the right amount of sweet, sour, and savory. Overall, the food was incredible and I plan to be a regular customer from now on :).
google avatar

Michael W.

Yelp
First time eating here, I was so excited to eat here. Service and ambiance was great, it's a small place but the decor and service were top. We started with the Mandoo and Tteokbokki for appetizers and the presentation and flavors were top, reminded me of mandoo I had in South Korea . Dinner we ordered bibimbap with bulgogi and the spicy pork bibimbap both dishes were flavorful, only down was that my dish was not in the traditional (hot) clay pot and it wasn't as hot in temperature as my husbands who had it on the clay pot. I recommend to order it on the clay pot. We all enjoyed the food and service, brought back memories from our vacation in Seoul this past June. We will come back to try some more dishes

Yelp
Bibim is the new star of this shopping center, the best restaurant for sure. As of this writing, I've visited three times and have yet to be disappointed. I recommend the dolsot bibimbap, having never visited Korea it is legit! Bibim recently opened and is still training staff, some minor and expected opening hiccups. The interior is renovated from the previous owner and nicely matches the cuisine. I'll definitely return for more delicious food!
google avatar

Anthony Y.

Yelp
Food was delicious. They just opened and are still getting their process down. Several group of people left after the staff informed them that the wait may be up to 30 minutes.
google avatar

Ashley O.

Yelp
Fantastic food and great service. It was a large portion and we had leftovers! We will definitely return!

Ellie Q.

Yelp
Finally checked out Bibim Bistro. We tried Fried Mandoo, Beef Bulgogi Bibimbap, and Chicken Bulgogi Ramen. Mandoo and Bibimbap were good, but personally I didn't like the ramen. It was a little salty, and just something about small strips of grilled meat just don't go well with noodle soup. I wish there were bigger slices of good quality (steamed) chicken instead and some veggie toppings to lighten up the flavor. The menu is small, basically just bibimbap and ramen.
