Dinner for 4 on a Friday night and we really wanted to like this place. The location which is along the route into the Holland tunnel means do NOT drive down this street during high NY-NJ traffic congestion times. Park and walk a few blocks.
Bice SOHO has a clubby vibe with beautiful people and a marginal DJ (per our 2 resident DJs who were part of our dinner party on this warm evening). The service was very good and the owner, Rafael, was definitely the best part of the experience. We felt like we were in the Italian fashion capital of Milan.
All of the food was acceptable, but there were no standouts here as a foodie destination. The veal cutlet was, unfortunately, the low point as it was thin, over breaded, underseasoned and very, very dry. Perhaps a sauce may have saved it, but unlikely as it was dessicated, almost jerky like. Everything else was inline with most mid-level northern Italian restaurants. The best dishes we had were the Alba pizza with wild mushrooms and the burrata appetizer.
The female to male ratio here tonight was 3:1 and a live singer also performed a few of his contemporary, self-written songs.
Come for the pizzas, appetizers, wine, glamour and mostly Rafael and you won't be disappointed. Summary is that if you're spending about $500 on dinner for 4 here then come for the nightclub ambiance, confidence is high that you just might get lucky.
