So here's the thing: it's a beautiful park, but you definitely have to visit during the right time of year.
We went in late May, and let me tell you... If you're not wearing mosquito repellent, get ready to be eaten alive. They will feast on you like it's Thanksgiving in the late spring/early summer.
While playing in the dog park, we were greeted with a surprise downpour of white, fluffy, puffs from the sky. That isn't snow my friends. It's cottonwood. And it'll sneak its way into every orifice and crevice imaginable.
The dog park seemed quite dirty, and so we didn't stick around there too long, and instead chose to walk our dog around the grassy fields and through the lush path with a fascinating boardwalk... Until a second swarm of mosquitos attacked us near a fountain in the thick of it.
tldr: come in the late fall, or early spring. It'll be more pleasant experience then.
