TLDR: AMAZING, CREATIVE and ALL AROUND DELICIOUS FOOD and DRINKS. MUST GO!
We won a dinner here from the James Beard Auction and were excited to try sometime new in Naples. From the very first encounter with the Bicyclette team, they were amazingly kind people and we knew we were in a great night. As part of the auction, Chef Kayla planned a custom, progressive menu for our family of four which included cocktails, snacks, and 4 courses. We received the menu a week before our reservation and were already drooling when we got there.
All the food was innovative and delicious. Often creative new twists on a classic dishes. And not just great tasting, but a fun feast for the eyes as well. The cocktails were also just as impressive - we tried 4 different signature cocktails, with 4 very different flavor-profiles, and none disappointed. All were well-balanced (not too sweet or too smoky) and they matched their descriptions perfectly. We even got a surprise Amaro digestif at the end - served chilled with lemon peel, a perfect ending to the meal!
And of course, no good meal is complete without great service - and we couldn't have asked for better service. The restaurant will well staffed - always someone around to answer a question, refill your water or wine, or just check in. The owners and partners are also buzzing around, making sure everything is going smoothly.
We had such a great evening, we've already made another reservation to try their normal menu! As real food-lovers from NYC, we were shocked by the quality and style of food at this new(ish) restaurant in Naples and can't recommend it more highly. Run, don't walk, to Bicyclette Cookshop!
The snacks:
Potato Millie-feuille with caviar: perfectly salted two-bit potato goodness. You can just barely spot all the paper-thin layers of potato piled together.
"Popcorn" chicken oysters - They took the best, most tender part of the chicken (the 'oyster') and made a bucket full of popcorn chicken. Crispy, not at all oily, and accompanied by a light but still little spicy dipping sauce. What's not to love here.
Yakitori mushrooms, and wagyu - perfect grilled meat, next to mushroom flavor-bombs. I could've made a meal out of any one of these snacks.
Mains: all awesome, and the presentations - just wow!
Uni sitting on uni-foam cloud - I love uni, enough said (sea urchin)!
Arctic Char with Beets - visually stunning, and the fish was perfectly cooked with the middle being just on the right side of 'rare', and the outside covered in a ring of 'ashy' flavor that complemented the sweetness of the beets.
Lamb Belly - this dish was out of control good. Lamb belly was so tender is just fell apart under the fork, and had SO MUCH FLAVOR. The kohlrabi salsa and sorrel leaves provided a citrusy lightness to balance the richness of the meat. Pure perfection. If I was forced to pick a favorite, it would be this one.
Dessert - like a twist on a deconstructed creme brulee. The more I ate, the more I loved it. Despite being full, I couldn't stop going back for just one more bite. The custard was firm but still light and creamy. Combined with the crunch 'brulee' stopping and the unexpected peppadew sponge cake (which didn't taste like pepper but had a surprise sweetness you couldn't place). But the secret start was a pepita-caramel crunch hiding between pits - salty sweet perfection.
