Outdoor beer garden with communal tables for rotating draft beers & locally sourced German pub grub.
"Generally, places that have lines are good. Sure, they might be overrated and test your patience, but look how well Furbies turned out for everyone. Biergarten will have a line—especially on a nice day—but suck it up and wait it out. The German beer is top-notch, as are the sausages and pretzels, and there’s something uniquely San Francisco about sitting in a possibly-converted parking lot surrounded by a chain-link fence drinking at a picnic table." - lani conway, julia chen 1, ricky rodriguez

"Biergarten's pickled eggs boast a head-turning hue and a vinegary taste that goes well with both the creamy filling and accompanying stein of beer." - Rose Garrett, Caleb Pershan
"Your cousin Alex is from a small town and moving to a “big city” seems daunting to him, especially after he saw the mess of FiDi traffic after work. You need to show him that San Francisco can feel smaller, too. Take him to Biergarten in Hayes Valley. Everyone is there to have a few daytime drinks, there are no tall buildings around, and you can make friends with the people sitting at your picnic table, easy. Grab a few giant beers and settle in for an afternoon of letting him change his own mind." - will kamensky
"Biergarten in Hayes Valley is the kind of place you plan to go to for an hour and end up spending the whole day at. They serve a variety of German beers in either liter or half liter mugs, so once you’ve settled in with your crew, you won’t need to head to the bar every thirty seconds for a refill. Rather you can hang out and talk about everything from your roommate’s love of NASCAR t-shirts, to that awful time in middle school when you accidentally made a three pointer in the wrong team’s basket. When you inevitably get hungry, they have things like pretzels and sausages to snack on, or you can head to Barcino or Souvla nearby for something more substantial." - will kamensky, nic strain 2
