Had just what we needed in several sizes and color (neck buff). Staff was friendly and the store was well organized and lovely.

Ahhh big five where would i be without you. You want tactical boots you got them. Need camping stuff search no more. Sports clothes found it. Yeah all that and more. Great back packs. This is the place where I told myself if I'm going to buy my first real back pack imma go big. Found one that fitted my dreams for ever with lots of compartments to put whatever you want. Very good backpacks wouldn't buy them anywhere else. Five out of five stars in my book.

A great palette of diverse products. I have no idea how the Ruger Ranch Mini 14 went up to $859??? How times have changed. For over a decade they use to ask $500 for it, and it was reliably $500. Still no Break Free CLP so settle for Hoppe's No. 9. So at least theirs something.

Van Nuys location got ammo back! Went for ammo was helped quickly and efficiently, thank you workers of Big 5 Van Nuys!

They descriminated against me, were rude towards me and lied about the closing time of an area in the store (ammo & rifles).

The greatest sporting goods store around. This is one of the last standing sporting goods we have in California. You're able to get some tennis shoes snow boots sports clothes sports equipment. They always have wonderful sales and they have a clearance section. Goes camping gear fishing gear. customer service is very nice and friendly the other day I came to get some shoes my girl and a sales person was outstanding.

I called the store to verify they could do my eligibility check and they said that I have to go through LAPD background check

Went there on this rainy day! Their Staff ( young Girl ) very kind and resourceful she helped me find what I needed. This is my first time there but definitely going back when I need to.

The workers are good peeps. With that being said their vendors are total trash. Everything I've bought for fitness has fallen apart in a month. Go to dicks, much better quality

Grateful for my local Big 5 Sporting Goods in Van Nuys! Recently was knocking somethings off my "checklist"... Really just a I'm going on a retreat for a full week and need some update things including a queen size air mattress, tarp, miscellaneous items and compression socks (from my recent ankle tumble via tropical storm in SoCal with more to come on my trip lol finally 90% better... I digress). I received good customer service both on the floor and at checkout though super personable from the Big 5 Van Nuys crew floating about more so. My cashier was cool, but 100% ready to get off work... The vibe was there.... I feel you girl, that's why I'm on vacay... Take one too, they're good for you (reset)!! They have a huge selection of sporting goods, athletic wear, swim gear and items including cool pools, camping supplies, fishing as well as hunting equipment and much more. The quality of items is solid, though the small light I purchased with a clip was the one item that didn't pull through for me as it didn't work after adding batteries to it several times, I did have other lights I had purchased from this location previously in the past that do still hold up well. Some items are locked on display like the headlamps, but you can find someone easily to assist you. Everything I was looking for I found and/or was guided to where it would be in this staple location just above Van Nuys Blvd & Sherman Way. They have an easy entrance parking lot and even when a little busier seem to keep things flowing from start to finish... Making this B5SG clear, clean and under control... I'm not sure what the manager specific reviews are regarding, but everyone I interacted with was helpful.

Nice lady at the register directed me to exactly where I needed to go for what I wanted. Came back and they opened another register to help me since there was already another person buying their items. It's Big 5. They did a good job for me.

They almost always have everything I ever want or need. My daughter and I recently started taking up racketball. We came in to get some rubber balls, and they had different sizes and types. The pricing was reasonable. The service was great. They've always been able to point us in the right direction. Highly recommend the place.

Not the best area but the service is wonderful .... Greeting is everything. Great selections and stock. I don't go to big 5 often but this location is pretty good. Needed a day license for fishing (you get it at the cashier) got what I needed and was on my way.

Asked the employer for information and he and the manager had no idea! He was laughing en joking with the female employee and manager. The female employee's were laughing so hard and annoying. Chatting together and don't helping me! And I am was not in a bad mood when I entered the store. I left with a bad feeling.

Big 5 needs to go better with their staff i was in line waiting to buy my product and the girl on register named Kimberly was on her phone. How are you going to be on your phone in front of your customers that's so disgusting and rude.

As we were walking around on our routine morning walk, I noticed there was a big 5 sporting goods store on Van Nuys blvd. I went in looking for dumbbells and came out with a bunch of goodies!:D They had a decent variety of dumbbells to choose from, different colors and sizes, and bought a couple to complement my work out. I also noticed they had a percussion gun which I've been meaning to buy and am beyond excited to give it a try!!!:D I hold all my stress in my shoulders and have heard amazing things about the percussion gun and releasing tight muscles. As I started shopping around, I saw the clearance rack and got a juicy couture sports bra on clearance. :-) I was happy to see that the store is nicely laid out and there's staff on the floor ready to help you. When it was time to check out Tracy, the cashier, helped us out and was super friendly. Overall great experience and I'll be back for all my sporting and workout goods . :)

This Big 5 is always busy. We come to Big 5 like twice a month because all our kids are active in sports. They need more staff at this location to keep up with the customers because everyone is always busy. For all your sports needs and for great deals.

Worst customer service. The MANAGER MARKO remembered me purchasing a item 2 days before return. I couldn't find my receipt he ended up not giving me my cash and said has to be store credit without receipt. not only he gave me store credit. But he also gave me less money giving me crap about he has to giving me the amount the item was last listed on sale. Gave me like $10-15 cheaper store credit. Then I walk around the whole dirty store with over priced items..... I bought couple stuff then I noticed the tripppe A battery's they charged me almost $17 when it clearly said $14,49. Biggest scammers on 2022. That's the only reason why y'all are in business. Soon Amazon will wipe y'all out

I stood at the knife case ready to buy 3 or 4 knives. There were a few workers around but none of them could be bothered to acknowledge that I was there. An I see you and as soon as I can I will be with you would have gone a long way.

I bought the wrong size shoes at another location . I called this spot and asked for the correct size, which they had. The staff put the shoes on hold for me to pick up . When I showed up, the exchange was very quick and painless. 5 stars for great customer service at this location.

I won't recommend this store at least when the Maneger Melissa its there. I went to buy some items and I asked for some description of something at the store and Melissa (Maneger) answered me with bad attitude i Just asked her two or 3 questions. I don't understand if they survive from costumes she shouldn't work there.

I wish I could give zero stars. We received an item as a birthday present for my daughter. We tried to return it with a receipt and was told the computer is not registering it, store credit only. Looked around the store for 30mins for items to purchase with store credit, only to be told we must return it to the original location which is 20 plus miles away. The item is very big and was not easy to get to the location. Big 5 is not a mom and pop store I expect more from them.

I'm not going to bag on anyone but when you get your weekly flier in the Sunday LA Times from Big Poppa, it shows you all the deals. Right? Why does it seem that Van Nuys is different than Studio City? The price point can only be the same irregardless of location. They all work for the same spirit crushing hourly wage with a boss who doesn't do half the work they do. A la Will Ferrell as Ron Burgundy. I encourage you all to be nice to workers and make them smile. It makes all the difference in their day. It also might shine a light on you.

Prices are not true don't even bother with their mark down prices. They show an additional saving of 20% and when you go to the cash register they don't give you the additional discount. Stay away from this store. Thumbs down to the manager named Josh he has the worse customer service attitude by far!!! He took my sign from my hands when I asked about the additional 20% discount and he said he will not honor the discount even if it's all over the store. I wish I could have given this store 0 stars.

Decided to go to Big 5 and glad I came to this location! I was looking for a gift and had no idea what to get and what certain items were. Ashot was the employee helping me and so glad he did. He was very knowledgeable, polite, and took his time to show me a variety of items. His recommendations were truly appreciated I felt like I walked out with the best gift. Would definitely be coming back to this location!!!

Love big 5. Their website states the Van Nuys location is open until 8pm today. I went out of my way to go here to pick up something I needed and the store has a sign on the door that states they close at 7:30pm. Fernando a manager at the door was extremely rude not just to me but a couple other customers comming in to shop here with the same understanding that they were open until 8pm. I can understand maybe the issue but you do not have to treat people with disrespect when all they are trying to do is spend money with the store.

First I called and they were very helpful over the phone. They gave me all of the information I requested and the person I talked to was friendly. I went down there to get what I needed and upon entry it was very easy to find as the store products were visible with a quick glance around. I got what I needed and the products were awesome. They worked as they were supposed to and the prices were pretty decent. I purposely went out of my way to this store after calling the one in Burbank and not getting a very good response. I was very satisfied with my experience here.

Horrible service, went to get a fishing license for the next days fishing nobody had a login to make one, makes no sense 4 employees with no log in.

Haven't been here in a while, the prices are great and some really cool unique items at Big 5! Will be back!

I think it's time for major corporations to start working on training their employees better. Better on what is good customer service. Better on what is appropriate conversations and what isn't when you're on(and off) the sales floor. There should be no reason that it should be said. It should be common sense. If - even for a minute - you think I shouldn't have say that - THEN DON'T! For example - Went in yesterday to grab an ankle brace from this store. Went to the front counter where there were 2 female cashiers, a male associate and a male manager. They were talking about the new girl they just hired (appropriate). The male associate asked, "Is she cute?" Seriously, that was his first question regarding the new girl. Not appropriate. The manager then proceeds to respond, "Yeah, she's alright. A little on the thick side." SUPER INAPPROPRIATE! Is that your first job? How do you not know that you shouldn't be having this conversation - in front of other females - or on the sales floor in front of a customer - or at all? It's not brain surgery. Yeah, you can joke around, but when there's a customer around, you limit that. Hell when there is NO customer around you limit that! But you don't limit it to what I witnesses. I mean if you even wanted to go into the backroom and have that conversation then fine! But on the sales floor?! I can see why you're looking for more employees. I pity that new girl when she starts there. I pity her when she starts to work with that male associate. But I pity that Big 5 Sporting Goods the most. Cause y'all just lost a customer. I know it won't effect your bottom line - but going back to you guys WILL effect my moral line. And that was a line crossed when I went in there. I'd rather order online and wait 2 days.

So, I lost my goggles at the Sherman Oaks public pool. Tragedy, I know. Even though I felt like I was DYING today, I dragged myself to Big 5 because I know that these peepers get super blood shot when exposed to chlorinated water. As I arrived at Big 5, I took note of the neighborhood. Now, for those of you who did not grow up in the valley, Van Nuys used to be seriously ghetto. Like, it was not a pretty sight (and still isn't in some cases) but along the boulevard it's gotten kind of cool! There are many little family owned restaurants on this street! And there were only a couple of B's! This Big 5 is probably the best location I've ever visited. It is meticulously organized, the sales racks aren't ravaged and they are very well staffed. I tried on goggles of which there was a decent selection and even splurged on a new swim cap and earplugs! The return policy is great! If I don't like the fit of the goggles after swimming, I can bring them back! This store offers equipment for all of the major sports. Even hunting! Yay, shooting things!

This is the smallest and oldest Big 5 I have ever seen. Granted it's a rather old chain, but still. There are a ton of homeless people around the building. There's a rather large parking lot considering the amount of people that probably frequent the store, which is nice. They do NOT carry lacrosse gear.

This review is for 07/07/2012. I swear I wrote about this Big 5 Sporting Goods Store before. I don't live too far away and I've always shopped here for my footwear needs. If Yelp tells me to write, I shall write. Earlier in the day, I noticed the rubber on my shoes were so worn out that I had to get a pair of hiking shoes for my hike to Solstice Canyon in Malibu. There is always plenty of parking spaces, but you'll always notice the trash in the lot. Probably the same trash that was there for years. As you walk in, the store is very cluttered with sports items, left and right. The shoe section encompasses majority of the store followed by the rifles. I found of shoes that caught my attention. I forgot the name of the brand, but it was named after a bear or something. Just remembered the image of a bear. Unfortunately, the Big 5 Associate could not find a Size 13 Shoe. So, I had to find another pair and found a Size 13 Denali Hiking Boots for $19.99. My total was $21.80. The Denali fit pretty well and worked quite good at my hike. This Big 5 Sporting Goods Store is probably the busiest location in the entire San Fernando Valley. Probably busier than Burbank locations. It may not be the greatest, but its been at this location for a long time. They've always have the basic needs for shoes and I continue to hope they have sales on everything. Durand is the Man! Kind, helpful, in a last minute Christmas gift. Wish all salespeople were as cool as this guy. He will go far. Great reason to go to this store.

The 1st Asst. Manager HAROLD!!!!! Is the best thing to happen to this store! He not only solved my problem when they were out of stock with " fitness hula hoops" . He made sure I was able to buy the large quantity I needed followed up with a call to confirm and answered alllll of my questions with the very best most professional demeanor. With a great smile positive attitude. When I arrived to pick up the hoops I didnt have to wait the service was swift easy and great! I was all over the place and being a bit over the top. He handled it with poise and calmness. He is a TRUY GREAT PROFESSIONAL AND SHOULD BE IN A MANAGERIAL POSTION. CAN'T TEACH WHAT HE HAS AND WHO HE IS! I WILL ALWAYS REQUEST HIM WITH ALL OF MY SPORTING GOODS NEEDS! HAROLD YOU ARE A SHINGING EXAMPLE OF WHAT EXTREMELY GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE TRULY IS! THANK YOU AGAIN HAROLD BLESSINGS TO YOU!

We went here for location and roller blades. Um..wow. this place was super small. We stood in the back and tried on rollerblades for at least 30 mins with no store supervision. it was incredible. so we decided to yelp another location and went to Valley Skate and Surf shop. now that place was awesome. I'll review them in a second. All in all, don't waste your time coming here because its obvious that the staff there doesn't care if you are there or not.

Horrible customer service. Only reason why I come here is because its cheap and have variety of things. I hunted down someone to open a dressing room and was instructed not to leave anything in the dressing room. So where will I put the clothes that I don't want??? I put everything I didn't want back on the clothing racks like I worked there. Most of the time they were talking and not helping people out. Tsk tsk. If it wasn't for them being cheap and I wouldn't come here. Maybe that's why they have bad customer service?

Love this spot. Its been my goto for yrs. right before the covid lockdown my wife and I went for various emergency gear. Staff was great. Man and woman working ammo desk worked through so much bs with rush of customers they deserve a bonus. They remained professional the entire time. No offense but there was a taller and thick and very pretty lady with ponytails in sporting goods that helped me find some home weights as she was rushing to help others. Your staff is great.

I like Big 5. They are on the small side but they are usually crammed with merchandise and have what I need. They're stand-alone stores which makes it easier to get in and out. This Big 5 was super-stocked when I went in for swimming earplugs. I found what I needed quickly. They guy at the register was friendly. Easy parking right off Van Nuys Bl.

Thanks Brandon and Luis for everything and all of your help. You both are very hard workers and very eager to help others. Too bad most employees at most companies are not like you 2. Big 5 is blessed to have you and customers are blessed to be assisted by you both.

My first experience at this location was very pleasant. I felt that Jose, one of the sales associates did a great job showing me around. He went above and beyond with his outstanding customer service skills. I was impressed with his knowledge about the product and will definitely come back again.

I needed help finding a few items and asked the first person I saw. His name was Hugo. He knew where every item was and didn't just point across the store telling me it was on a rack by the fishing poles. He took me to the spot and actually handed me the items. As a result I made a few extra purchases that I otherwise would have left without. He seemed happy to help. Very satisfied.

Don't come here often. But I came in last night looking for a pair of boots and couldn't find my size. Within few minutes I was approached by someone asking if I needed help. They were very helpful and kind. My size wasn't at the store. So a gentleman named "Jose" took the boot and called a nearby location that did have it in stock and requested to place on hold under my name. Went over and I bought it. In conclusion, they are very helpful and customer service was very well met. Good job Big 5!

I purchased a tent from Big 5 - the first time I set it up in windy conditions, the tent pole snapped. I went to BIg 5 and the manager allowed me to exchange the tent for a brand new one. I appreciate that they stand behind their products and they are willing to do what is takes to keep their customers satisfied.

I went to buy a pair of shoes,and the customer service here is shit,I waited for at least 20 minutes to get help at the shoe section bcuz it was only one guy doing everything,then I told him to bring me 2 different sizes of the shoe that I wanted,like 5 minutes later he brings me the shoes in the wrong color,so I tried them on anyways so I can tell him to bring the right color after but the guy disappeared and never came back,I waited at least another 15 minutes to see if he was going to come back and then another female employee came out from the back room and I told her that I need the full black color shoe and said she was not on the clock and that she'll help once she's back on the clock. Don't waste your time or your money at this big 5,it's a big fucking joke of a business.

I have never been to this BiG 5 but I was looking for some assistance and the guy on the floor in the shoe department was not helpful whatsoever and/or knowledgeable... I had to go to the nice cashier to help me and she was very helpful and stepped away from the cashier because of course no line and assisted me... She also had exceptional customer service with customers prior to helping me. I really appreciated her help very much!!!

This is not an honest store, stay away! The manager Jesse was very rude to me and did not return a canope that I bought and I had a receipt within 30 days. I'm very upset with this store for horrible customer service!

Terrible, terrible, terrible! Called in, asked for a specific product and when I get there 10 minutes after calling they tell me they "just sold out". Then the manager tries to say I was wrong when I called and was very specific in regards to what I was looking for.

Great inexpensive place to purchase sporting goods. Clothes, shoes, etc. I bought my tennis rackets from here and some sport clothes. Friendly and helpful staff.

I like Big 5 as they seem to be lower priced than Sports Authority. This Big 5 is somewhat small so the selection is not as big as some other stores. Customer service has always been friendly. Easy parking in the back.

Yes it's cheap, but seriously is it that hard to run a store with descent customer service where you don't feel ripped off? Apparently for Big 5 it is. I went in for $20 shoes tonight and tried on several pairs. Finally I found this incredibly comfortable pair of Skechers sandwiched between 2 signs advertising men's shoes for under $20. A nice clerk found me a pair in the size and color I wanted. So I brought them up to check out and was told they were $60. I informed the clerk that they were on sale in the $20 section she immediately got defensive and called up the manager, clearly not the first time this bait and switch gambit had been perpetrated in that store. So the twelve year old manager came up and immediately started to explain how I was wrong about the price. So I walked him back to the poorly merchandised section and showed him the shoes sitting between the 2 signs and again instead of an apology about their crappy merchandising I start getting a dissertation about why I was wrong for misunderstanding about the price. At that point my tolerance for idiocy was broken and I let into the nimrod. A simple apology might have gotten me back for the "real" $20 shoes, but screw you Big 5 you get nuthin'!
