When you go you have to ask for Jennifer she is the best server I think I have ever had. She knew what I wanted before I did. My eggs come out perfectly every time when she orders them for me, soft but not runny! Food is always above par and atmosphere is exactly what I need on a Saturday morning. Very family oriented but don’t feel bad if you come alone you will be treated as if there are 10 people at the table. Breakfast here has become a staple and I will forever ask for Jen as my server

Staff is bilingual and no wait for seating. Whole location is pretty outdated. Bathrooms were clean but had a strong sewer smell. Parking was free and easy to get into. Food came out in a timely manner. Staff is very nice. My steak tasted like it was cooked in the microwave, no char, no grill lines, no sear. Hasbrowns had no flavor, very oily. Priced reasonably Kids loved their meals. Adults didnt like, but it was edible. I wouldn't come back.

whoever was in the kitchen at 9am on december 18th making crepes, they did a horrible job. my crepes were crunchy, burnt, and like very weird tasting. not to mention, the strawberries were horribly cut. every other time i get the strawberry crepes, they're good so whoever was cooking sucks. no offense.

Love the Spinach and Feta cheese omelet with sliced tomatoes toast and eggs over easy.🤗

The Big Apple has never failed me! I’ve been coming here since I was a teenager, and it’s always been a reliable, welcoming spot. I recently met up with an old co-worker for breakfast around 10 a.m., and the timing couldn’t have been better. We were seated immediately, and it was the perfect coffee and tea kind of morning. We both enjoyed delicious omelettes while catching up over a few hours. I had the veggie omelette with American cheese, wheat toast with strawberry jelly, and well-done hash browns. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and cooked just the way I like it. I love their generous portions—very satisfying! Value for the dollar? 10/10 every time. And just in case you’re wondering, all that pepper was my personal touch! If you haven’t checked them out yet, you should. The Big Apple remains a favorite of mine, and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it too!

I ordered a turkey sausage omelette the omelette had two different meats in it? One unknown meat, order was remade in a quick fashion apparently they just threw another omlette together it disgusting taste, wise and visual. I will upload a picture. I will never be going back there again 🤢🤢🤢🤢 I ask for manager 2nd time i was told she was too busy to see me i wouldnt advise any one to order turkey omelette

We went in for a quick bite on a rare Monday off and was very disappointed. We were seated and never acknowledged by the wait staff. We waited over 10 minutes. A larger family came in and were immediately greeted, given water and a waitress came over to take their orders. We asked if anyone was working the area and no one ever came to our table. We proceeded to leave, let the staff at the front know and went to Maria's Pancake House in Hazel Crest where service is always great!! We will not patronizing this establishment any longer.

It's a breakfast spot. Exactly what you expect in the south suburbs of Chicago. It's consistent. The menu is rather big - lots of options for breakfast, brunch or lunch. The coffee okay. I suggest ordering the eggs over medium. They can tend to under cook them just a tad.

We finally were in town again and got a chance to dine in to see what this restaurant was all about. I've had takeout from the establishment before and it was delicious, so I wanted to see how the service was. The gentleman at the front when you come in was polite, and friendly. He walked us to our booth and sat us. Our server Cheryl came over and took our order, she was friendly and helpful. We knew what we wanted so my fiance and I both ordered the turkey skillet and I had mine with wheat bread and the eggs over medium. I loved how the inside looked, it wasn't dirty or looked like it wasn't well maintained. The food came out and just like I remembered with my takeout it was delicious. Our server came over to check on us several times and always greeted us with a smile. I also want to point out that they have plenty of parking which is hard to find at a good restaurant. I also like how well-maintained the bathroom was. We will definitely return as I feel there are so many other items on the menu that I would like to try. So the next time we're in town we will stop by and have ourselves some more great breakfast.

Went in for a quick breakfast and coffee. Was greeted promptly and sat in a large dining are with table and booths. Table had well stocked condiments (sugars, jellies, creamers, hot sauce and ketchup). Don't always see that these days. Very large menu and also a page of "specials". My meal arrived fast. The eggs were fluffy and the bacon with the right amount of crisp. I had the French toast and it was a little dry and bland. Not sure I would order it again. They also offered hot syrup. This was so hot that I had to use a napkin to hold it. May not be good at a table with small children to reach for or spill. Overall prices were reasonable and the service was quick.

I miss the home fries with my skillets but still great portions & well seasoned. Mama skillet the best plenty of meat & veggies.

I was a regular at this restaurant when it was the Looking Glass. While I was in town visiting family, I had two separate breakfasts here. Both of them were adequate, but nothing spectacular. The service was friendly, helpful, and prompt. I would go back when I was in the area.

I've only ordered take out but oh boy! The skillets are amazing! For me it's like four portions. They make it to perfection! Love this place!

For the place it's good food. Big portions for a fair price especially in today economy. The service is superb compared to any spot in the area including the McDonald's and ihop. I love going during the week to pick up my breakfast and on my kids bdays they enjoy the calm atmosphere because on a weekday most people are just picking up so it isn't too overly simulating for them. I appreciate the staff always making them feel comfortable.

Food is consistent in taste and quality. Mainly because of their wonderful chef, Gus. Place is neat and clean, ready to receive guest. Side note, I Highly recommend the steel cut oatmeal, which is my Togo favorite. Enjoy

This place is totally like a staple in the neighborhood for breakfast! I gathered with my sis for a morning of catch up and eggs! Lol You will almost always see people you know. It NEVER FAILS! Well for us anyway. We grew up in the neighborhood and went to school, church, and such in the neighborhood-so this spot is always like a reunion with coffee!! Everything I have ever gotten to eat here has been yum! The portions are crazy huge and I always have to take food home!! I am not a fan of pancakes (do not judge me), but I love eggs!! Everything is made to order. One of the perks is that they have assorted coffee creamers! Who doesnt love creamers!!?? You never have to wait forever for a server to come top off your coffee or refill a drink! These womens and men are on top of their service game baby!! ALWAYS!! A nice family run business, doing awesome in food service, customer service and egg slangin'! I love this place! And I believe if the snow allows today, imma go grab my siblings and head there for more!!! #GoGetYouSome Their soups are awesome sauce as well. You can order breakfast or lunch. They are open until 3pm daily so the fun dont last long! Lol

Back Story: My guy orders a steak medium well.. Steak comes out well done!! Now keep in mind he never complains and just deals with it!!!! So he told the waitress whom was extremely nice by the way! She comes back with options!! Option A: Keep the well done steak and they will take $4.00 off of it!! Option 2: They can make another steak but he has to pay for it.. My guy who never complains said just make me another one and I will pay for it! New steak comes out RARE/RAW.... At this point he is mad! They said they will take $4.00 off the new steak! He asks the waitress, is this a joke? At this point he doesnt want to send it back to cook longer (natual human feeling of scared they will spit in the steak). He didnt eat any of his food at all! He was DONE DONE!! I was already mad because why on earth would a BUSINESS make a customer pay for a steak and it was their cooks error!? I get money is important for a business but me personally, I would rather make it right with my customer so that you will return. But obviously the owner John doesn't give a care!!!! He asks for the manager and a lady comes over calming to be the manager walks over and was also extremely nice and said they will take the 2nd steak off but he has to pay for the steak they messed up! The owner never showed his face to us. Matter of fact, I only know the owners name is John because a regular is sitting next to us and tells us his name and agrees that if its their error we shouldnt have to pay for the steak! We have made the decision at this point to NEVER EVER RETURN! Lets talk about morals!!!! The owner should've shown his face to us and apologized and handled the situation he did NOT!! So my guy grabs the baby and all of our stuff and goes to the car.......I then realized he grabbed my purse which had is wallet inside of it!!! So i go outside to get the money to pay for this food. I TURN AROUND and who do I finally see? Our waitress and John the owner...Oh so nowwww this he wanna show his face thinking we trying to DINE AND DASH!!!!!! NO SIR!!!!! Take the money for this meal!!! We not those type of ppl but its quite sad the owner was quick to try and chase us down and decides to show his face because he thought we were trying to DINE AND DASH!!! Not the case at all!!! I walked back in once i got his wallet paid for the meal that wasnt touched nor did they try to meet us halfway with THEIR ERROR! However I still tipped the waitress 17% bc its not her fault and i can tell she felt bad but she doesnt make the rules, John does!! Well John thank you for not giving a care about serice we received!!! You cared more about the cost of this steak than our money and having returning customers (our 4th visit there which was our LAST)!!! At some point with businesses/ business owner you sometimes have to take a loss to make things right with customers who also work hard for their money!!! He wasnt gonna lose his business making the situation right with a customer. Customers keep the lights on, customers are the reason your doors are even open in the first place! He is so money hungry he didnt have any morals at all!! Its the principle at this this point!! Its just crazy to me we didnt see his face until he "THOUGHT" we were trying to Dine and Dash!!! lol! This situation isnt worth stealing but it is worth putting you on blast!!!!! Imma write every review site out here!! They could've at least taken my baby apple juice off!! But we would've appreciated more than anything the owner showing us his face to make things right!! Now we know where not to spend our money!

In town for the weekend with my wife. My father and mother in law wanted to bring us here for breakfast. My wife and I ordered the Turkey omelette with Turkey sausage, Turkey bacon, green pepper, avocado, and onion. Also came with the raisin bread (which was a bit burnt), hash browns and side of grits (they were a bit soupy). Our family sat outside to get some fresh air and a breeze so the server brought our food out in containers and styrofoam cups with lids. The omelette was good, hash brown was pretty decent.

Nice breakfast spot in the neighborhood. Hadn't been here for a while and decided to check it out. No wait on a Saturday morning for a table, for which i was surprised. Very nice waitress. Food took about 15 minutes but worth the wait. Pancakes, turkey sausage and chesse omelet.

This place is down the street from my hometown and I've been coming here since high school. It's definitely above average for a small mom and pop restaurant. I'm in love with the Potato Benedict: HUGE potato pancakes with ham, poached eggs and yummy hollandaise sauce. I've gotten the pancakes and French toast to share before, and the portions do not disappoint. This place will always have a special place in my heart honestly. It's always packed in here and there is actually a waiting period unless you just need a table for two. I personally wouldn't do their paninis (a bit too dry for my taste), but their turkey club is huge as well. One of my favorite breakfast spots back home!

Good quick breakfast. Menu is overwhelming. I don't think there's anything they don't have. The restaurant reminds me of a truck stop. The corned beef hash is delicious and my reason for continuing to patronize this establishment. The biscuits and gravy is also pretty good. The portion sizes are ginormous so I generally just order ala carte but honestly your dollar stretches further ordering a breakfast plate. But I hate wasting food.

Local breakfast spot in my area. Always fast and convenient. Generally good food and beverages, except for the coffee. Coffee there is generally weak or watery. If you are a coffee enthusiast, like myself, then you'll be a bit disappointed in that department. I recommend that you stick with a tea, juice or soda. This was my second time getting a to go order from there. My order was ready in about 10 minutes and all condiments were already in the bag. The owner is always very personable and has a positive disposition about him when picking up or dining in. Definitely worth trying out if you're in the area for a quality breakfast or lunch.

Horrible service! Disrespectful owner.Refuse to fix an incorrect order. All the great reviews! Good for you , was good for me as well ordered every week ,same thing. But when my order was wrong and I complained. The disrespect came from the "owner". Wouldn't refund or remake. NEVER AGAIN. I hope your food is always correct because if it's not don't complain because then the rudeness comes.

Never again! Been going to this place for years. Picked up a take out and got home. Food was cold and my waffle was soft like it was microwaved. Called up there to tell them about the food, lady answered the phone trying to justify the horrible food. I hang up after exchanging words with her. I didn't have time to return to the place and get a refund.

Big Apple is comfort food to the max. No frills and no fuss but good food. The portion size is huge and there are always leftovers! This was not my first visit... I have been coming here since I was a little girl. It used to be my after church brunch spot so be warned: If you show up at 10 am or 1 pm, you will most likely be waiting outside due to the after service rush. Now that I am not local to the area, I realize that there is another option to get my "Big Apple" fix. You can call and order your food to go. They usually have even the biggest orders ready to go within 20 minutes of your call. The only less than fun part about this restaurant is the wait and the waiting area. Inside the door are some chairs for those waiting to get seated and eat but the line near the register has mere feet to exist. And the line is a mixture of guests trying to pay for their table's bill and carryout customers trying to pick up their meals. More than often, the line blocks the door and creates a fire hazard situation. I really don't know that they can do anything about it. And it is definitely a compliment to be so busy! If you live in the area or are just passing through the area, it is definitely worth a stop and a meal. Be aware though, this place is Breakfast and Lunch only and they close at 3pm.

If you're taking out... make sure you call your order in due to the fact it's always busy! It's worth the wait though, the food is Delicious! I had the Boston skillet one day and ordered the East Coast skillet (no pic) and OMG I loved every bite. Also, huge portions, worth every penny!

A great place for breakfast. The staff is friendly and will accommodate your order selection if not on the menu. I enjoy the eggs benedict with egg whites and turkey links. I always have enough to take with for the next day, sometimes two. The price is right, and the wait time is short if any.

There was a group of us (10) last month that decided last minute to have breakfast together as some had to travel back out of town to their homes. We called to make a RSVP but was told they don't accept that but she did ask how many and when we would arrive. We did not have a long wait at all, the variety of meals were all delicious (I love the steak), the coffee and service and prices were great as well. Our server was the best. Very attentive but not bugging us. My husband and I decided to go back again last week and we had the same great experience. It's always busy which is a sign of Constance fresh food prep.

For as many years as I've been coming to this restaurant, today will be the last day. The worst customer service EVER!! If you choose to eat outside, beware!! There is one server for eight socially distanced tables. We had to pay prior to eating which would have been ok but because the waitress was so busy, we had to go in after 20 minutes to pay ourselves to get our order started. 30 minutes later, I go in to check because people who arrived at the same time as us and ate inside are now coming out after completing their meal. I explain this to the manager and he tells me that's just how it is. I asked for my money back and he says no because the food is ready. Then where is it?? NEVER AGAIN!!!!

If you're looking for breakfast, you've got to get to this restaurant. We live across the state line and gladly travel 40 minutes for the great food and exemplary service. We have never been disappointed. Breakfast is generous, and made to perfection. Lunch specials are fantastic... the chicken and tuna salad combo is amazing. Yes, it's a diner.... But a well-run one!!

Came here with the family on a Saturday. It was crowded but we were sat pretty quickly. I ordered the Denver omelet with has browns and decided on pancakes asking if they could add pecans. The food arrived pretty quick and man... it was so much. But the star was the pancakes not only did these bad boys have pecans on them they had them in them as well super fluffy but not heavy at all and delicous. I'm not a pancake fan really at all from a restaurant because a lot of places can't make them. But this place was amazing. I still talk about them from time to time.. only issue I had was a lady got upset and was screaming cuss words at the man behind the desk and he returned the same language. They both were so loud and there were kids present.. But the food was food so I mean it was worth it

I used to really love this place until today. There customer service absolutely stinks! The manager told me that I cannot be seated and have a cup of coffee while I wait a few minutes for my partner to arrive... What would be the difference if I'd told him that I was dining alone? Seems toe that all he cared about was SEATING PEOPLE AND GETTING THEM OUTTA THE DOOR AS QUICKLY AS HE COULD. The irony is that my guest arrived, we ate and left before the single diners that were seated before us. Customer Service is everything, I WILL NEVER SPEND MY MONEY HERE AGAIN!

I love this place. Every time I come in town. I eat here. I get the big mama scrabble. Eggs over medium. Pancakes are also very soft. Not to mention your eggs are always perfect. I eat off the Big Mama Scrabble twice.

My boyfriend and his buddies LOVE this place! This is their spot! Anytime we're in town visiting, we stop in for breakfast. This time we stopped twice! Nothing fancy just good, home cooked food! Tip: the restaurant closes at 3:00 pm daily. Breakfast time can be pretty busy so be prepared to wait. No worries! Portions are large and the prices are reasonable. Either way, you won't be disappointed!

Loved this place for a long time until the food started coming back not made correctly or orders were totally messed up. Not sure if there was a change in management but hasn't been as good as it was a few years ago. I would recommend it but it's not my first choice to go to for breakfast

The big Apple is a great breakfast place, I would recommended this place to very body. The food is good and they give very big portion the service is awesome the waitress are super patient. And I almost forgot to tell you it's cheap the food is good and affordable.

Absolutely loved this place, our waiter was extremely polite and helpful. Never overbearing but we didn't want. Serving portions are great always leave with my meal, can't finish in one seating. I love this old country love feeling.

We were seated the minute we walked in! Our order was taken by a really nice waitress, and our food was received rather quickly. There were a couple bluffs, but on a Friday morning the place was rather busy. When my food was messed up, our waitress was so apologetic and my food was replace just as quick as I got it. Everyone makes mistakes!! I got stuffed Strawberry crepes and a half order of biscuits and gravy. I must say both of my plates were some of the best plates of breakfast food I've ever had. Atmosphere was very comfortable and nice. I would definitely return again (:

I'm not in love with this place but it's very close to my house. The stuffed french toast was not that good. The waffles weren't that impressive either. The hash browns had no seasoning. The service was nice and our waiter was very sweet. The service is why I gave it at-least a 3. The food is probably a 2.

I remember growing up in Chicago and eating breakfast from Pancake Houses all the time. Now that I live in New Orleans, breakfast is not the same. I ordered the garden omelet, which has tomatoes, onions, green pepper, mushrooms (I think), and cheddar cheese, along with extra crispy hash browns and two pancakes. Everything was delicious. You can't get this type of breakfast from Ihop!

Pretty good breakfast spot. Extraordinarily busy on weekends, yet that doesn't typically affect the service. Varied menu, I have never had a bad meal here. My only problem has ever been with the other patrons (I've seen a few fights, etc.)

Every single time I order they always forget something! They are rude and unprofessional. They would even give me a refund for the entree they forgot. I was very upset the food taste cold and gross

I love Big Apple! I've been coming to this restaurant for three years now. I can always depend on their food being tasty. Also, even when it's busy, I don't feel the wait is terribly long. For a cheap price, you do get a lot of food. Their menu offers a lot of choices as well. The only recommendation I would have for staff is to stay on top of the bathrooms a little more. I've never seen them in filthy conditions, but they can get a little dirty doing peak hours. Other than that, my husband and I are regulars.

Just a regular diner joint. I have only had breakfast here so I can't speak on the other food items. I usually get one of the skillets-I like the fact that they actually have it chopped finer than most places I have been. Husband's fav is the banana nut french toast. The wait is as expected on a weekend morning, so sometimes it is better to call for a to go order. It comes hot if you time it right as they are packaging it! They do not waste time and everything is in the bag for your meal unless you know you like something out of the ordinary!

The food is always warm fresh and delicious! We get it to go often and they always send home everything you need as well as condiments.

Terrible place . They messed up my order very oily skillet and the manager said he will give me a credit but I've been there 3 times since then and they give me the run around when it's time to check out. when I called in and spoke with the manager 3 times he told me I can come in and get a credit but no one can help me when I arrive . Today he was I saw him his face turned RED when he saw me there but they say he left by the time I checked out. It's only 11:40am. They said he left for the day and couldn't reach him. I've been going here for years I will never go back and I will be spreading the word about the low customer service and selfish ways of the staff. Very cheap with there supply of food they served me a half glass of apple juice today and the bacon strips are very small it's only a matter of time that this place will be closed for business.
