This is one of the best breakfast around. If you've never had the biscuit and gravy here, I'm not just talking, they make their own gravy, it is by far the best biscuit and gravy I've ever had! the employee that served me was amazing she was quite beautiful too. I said at the bar section, so I had quick service, the biscuits and gravy came out quick and they came out fast. It was an amazing experience, by far the best biscuits and gravy I've ever had. What a wonderful great experience I love this place

Big Bad Breakfast (BBB) in Birmingham, Alabama, is a culinary gem that elevates the traditional Southern breakfast experience. Founded by James Beard award-winning chef John Currence, BBB offers a menu that honors the first meal of the day with flair. Upon entering, you're greeted by a lively atmosphere filled with friendly staff and the aroma of freshly brewed, locally roasted Octane Coffee. The interior boasts a cool vibe, enhanced by great music and a bustling crowd. The menu is a delightful array of breakfast classics with a twist. House-made biscuits are a standout, perfectly paired with custom meats sourced from Alabama. For those seeking a hearty option, the shrimp and grits come highly recommended, offering a flavorful blend of creamy grits topped with succulent shrimp. Service is prompt and attentive, even during peak hours. Diners have noted that despite short waits, orders arrive quickly and accurately, contributing to an overall solid dining experience. For those who enjoy a sweet start, the pancakes are a must-try, described as "epic" and satisfying. The Big Bad Skillet is another favorite, featuring a medley of eggs, hashbrowns, and savory toppings that leave a lasting impression. If you're dining with a furry friend, the Highway 280 location offers a dog-friendly patio, making it a perfect spot for pet owners. In summary, Big Bad Breakfast in Birmingham is more than just a place to eat; it's a destination that celebrates the art of breakfast. With its exceptional food, inviting atmosphere, and top-notch service, it's a must-visit for both locals and travelers alike.

The weekends are crazy at Big Bad Breakfast. We tried going to the one closer to downtown Birmingham on a Sunday, but there was at least a 30 minute wait. We drove to this location and it was really busy, but at least they had a table available when we walked in. The place is really loud with the amount of people that are in it and there is an outside seating area, but we were not offered a seat out there. We sat at a high top table, but be fore warned the size of the seating area on the chair feels a bit small and I was continuously feeling like I was going to slip off the chair even though I'm not a large person. Other than that the service took a little while because of how busy they were. The food was really delicious along with the fresh squeezed orange juice. If we do come back to the area again, we will make sure it is during the week so we can actually hear ourselves when we talk.

Google
Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Weird location but it's worth the hunt. Avocado toast was fabulous. Coffee was great. Pancakes good. It was very nice experience

Google
Very good food. Excellent service and very clean. Was able to get seated immediately at a table of our choice. The waitress was outstanding. Highly recommend!!!

Google
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Had an amazing experience at Big Bad Breakfast! The food was absolutely delicious—everything from the crispy bacon to the fluffy pancakes was spot on. You can really tell they take pride in what they serve. Our server Madelyn was incredible—attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed without ever being overbearing. Jana was also fantastic—super welcoming and clearly a great leader on the floor. The whole vibe was laid-back but efficient, and the staff worked together like a well-oiled machine. Definitely coming back soon!

Google
Been meaning to try this regional chain for a while, and finally found a day and location that weren't absolutely packed! 15 minute wait for a table at noon on a Saturday, but we found two seats at the counter. Also a covered patio on the side. Food was ready very quickly despite the crowd, though. Nothing particularly elaborate or unique on the menu, but what they do, they do well. Ordered the Big Bad Skillet with a side of biscuit & gravy, flapjacks, and a Breakfast Dude cocktail. The skillet, pancakes, and cocktail were great, the biscuit was excellent, and the gravy was good but light on sausage flavor.

Google
This place has one of the best omelettes I’ve had in a long time. I ordered the Creole omelette with andouille sausage, shrimp and a side of hash browns it was deliciously cooked to perfection. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was great and inviting. I most definitely recommend this place. Oh yeah I must try the drink menu on my next visit. 😜

Yelp
Food is great! Wait time is definitely worth it if they are packed this food is that good.

Kaylen M.

Yelp
alice was our server, she was the best. the food was hot and they got it out to us fast. overall had a great experience at this location. it was busy in the restaurant but the staff were efficient and friendly.

Yelp
I love BBB! The service is always top-notch, and we enjoy sitting at the bar while ordering fabulous vanilla cappuccinos along with the best BLT in town. My next favorite dish is the eggs benedict. The staff is consistently great, just like the food and service. The ambiance is friendly and welcoming. It's a fantastic local spot for breakfast and lunch.

Yelp
I decided to take my new friend to big bad breakfast since he's never been there before. It was a Friday around noon, so there wasn't many people in there. We both started off with an apple mimosa it was very tasty. I ended up getting the big bad biscuit. It was good, but the biscuit was a little crummy and dry. I don't think I would get that again. My friend really enjoyed his biscuits and gravy and his low country meal Our server with a blonde girl, but I don't remember what her name was, but she was very attentive The bathrooms were very clean as was the restaurant I will definitely be back
google avatar

Chrissie W.

Yelp
sat at the bar. the place was busy. I had a tiny mimosa and immediately thought of the place I wish I would've gone instead. My French toast came out and it was delicious, but I was expecting a bigger portion considering there are many breakfast options in town. I probably won't go back. Prices are too high for what u get in my opinion. soooo... i drove to the place i should've gone. YUM!! Im happy now.

Yelp
Sister date time came back around and BBB was our weekend pick. We could honestly eat a plain bagel while sitting on the car in a parking lot and be happy. lol We are known to order a ton of food and just share everything. Give the two of us a four seater most times because the table will be full. This weekend was on the lighter end so our order only consisted of several bruleed grapefruit, avocado toast and french toast with apple juice and water. French toast was our newest addition to our spread this time around and I had no idea how good it was here. All items were tasty with the plates having a generous portion size. Our wait time wasn't long, food came out shortly after ordering, and our server was distracted by us but did a great job overall. They already know we will be back.

Yelp
Decided to finally stop by and try BBB. Of course they don't take reservations and it was packed. We got there a little before 10 am and there was about an hour wait. Once we were seated, we were greeted as normal and ordered our food and drinks. Keep in mind, the mimosas even though it was your typical beverage, it was slightly overpriced in my opinion at $10 a glass and the glasses were small lol. For some reason, BBB doesn't have carafes. I also ordered the shrimp and grits. It was your typical breakfast dish. It was pretty good and the food was served pretty quickly. To me, the BBQ sauce that came with the dish slightly overpowered the dish and it made it seem like I was eating a BBQ soup than shrimp and grits by the time I was done. Other than that, BBB is your typical breakfast spot.

Yelp
The Yard Work skillet is delicious and "healthy especially if you're vegetarian or just watching your diet. My husband had the BLT omelet, it was delicious as well. Service was ok. The server kept reaching across us to fill drinks and even took my husband's plate before he was finished. All in all a good breakfast spot and will visit again.
google avatar

Yelp
Good morning place to go for an informal breakfast. The food is very good and the staff are nice and friendly. It's a typical lunch/brunch type of atmosphere.
google avatar

Elizabeth O.

Yelp
Do not eat here. Wait is entirely too long for average food at best. Don't bother using the online waitlist, they do not honor.
google avatar

Jake S.

Yelp
Inside is cool, lots of tables they are close together so when folks walk by they bump into folks seating. Checked in on Yelp app for wait list, when I arrived I went it to tell my party have arrived. These helped lessen the wait time. Food was good. I had pancakes with spicy bacon . Pancakes were nice fluffy but taste was basic. Wife got cathead chicken , I tried her it was great. Kid got grill cheese and fries. Looked good. Also got cappuccino, kid sweet tea, and two waters. Waitress was nice just didn't refill water. With all we got came to about $47 (not counting tip)
google avatar

Angela B.

Yelp
Not gonna lie. The food was on point, as always. However, the sticker shock of a "pitcher" of mimosas is scary. I won't be back with a group for this again. It is quite a rip off. Food and service is always great. 3 stars for the crazy amount of money they charge for juice and a bottle.

R K.

Yelp
Please fix your reservation system. Twice now we had to wait for a hour thinking it was 30 minutes. Last time I was told we were next to watch 4 parties go before us. I ask why we weren't next and I'm told we are next, then 2 more go before us. So many others around us thought they were in the system only to find out they are not. We weren't next checked in but it was still messed up. 2 hours from the time we got there until we left. You know this is a problem fix it.

Yelp
Quite possibly the best breakfast in the South. It's super busy at this location, but we got a table pretty quickly. The food is absolutely incredible. The best bacon I've ever put in my mouth!!! I ordered the breakfast plate with scrambled eggs, spicy bacon, a biscuit, and hash browns. It was absolutely incredible and so much food! My kids ordered the cat head biscuit and the French toast. The French toast is incredible- three large, decadent slices with fruit, whipped cream, and berries. The WOW factor came in the cathead biscuit. Holy cow that's a lot of food! A ginormous biscuit, split in half, topped with two fried chicken breasts, and all smothered in sausage gravy and gooey cheddar cheese. It was an absolute showstopper and so delicious. We can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Last week I decided to eat at Big Bad Breakfast on 280. I received exceptional service, and the waitress was very attentive. I ordered the shrimp and grits, and it was served with gravy and an egg. I also ordered a mimosa, and I was not too satisfied with it. The mimosa tasted kind of tart, and it did not contain enough juice, in my opinion. The menu had a wide variety of delightful breakfast dishes, and I would love to go back and try them. I would recommend the entree I chose to people who like a lot of flavor in their breakfast food. The only downside was the mimosa, other than that Big Bad Breakfast is worth the visit.

Yelp
Was getting a little antsy bc we were told 20-30 mins but ended up being 45-55 mins but I will have to say - it was worth the wait. The orange juice was so fresh and good. My wife got a BLT add cheese and it was amazing. Their ranch is very good. I got the Big Bad Skillet and it was awesome! We also shared a waffle and it was great. It was def worth the wait and Emily was great!

Yelp
The food and the service was amazing. Was seated in a timely manner. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
Wait wasn't bad, the food was Yummy and the service was amazing!!! Hadn't been in a long time & stopped by for brunch after church ... they still have it!

Yelp
i decided to eat my breakfast from the big bad breakfast - greystone location for the first time. i elected to have my big ass breakfast delivered today and was pleasantly surprised on how fast my order arrived at my front door on such a rainy soggy day. the driver made excellent time and she was very nice. the breakfast was still warm as all humanly possible on this fairly long delivery. i ordered the big ass breakfast platter with goat cheese scrambled eggs, country ham, bacon and a side of goat cheese grits with biscuits and gravy. everything was cooked as ordered and under the circumstances still warm enough and ready to eat. the cathead biscuits were very good, big and fluffy. the sausage gravy & goat cheese grits were both delicious and was spiced perfectly. i've never had breakfast delivered before and this will not be my last time. obviously i was extremely pleased with this breakfast and the portion size. this meal easily fed two people. i have now eaten at both the homewood and now greystone location and now know both are consistently very good,

Yelp
Always the best food consistently and I can't get enough of the Cold Brew here. Anna also gave 10 star service!

Ken J.

Yelp
Cold gravy on a hard biscuit. Somehow they managed to mess up the grits too. Orange juice was delicious.

Romona E.

Yelp
I stoped by here on the way to Memphis TN. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The food was served hot and everything taste delicious. I will definitely be back. They also have lunch items on the menu and I saw a few things I'd like to try.
google avatar

Lathan B.

Yelp
First time trying this location. The venue is much smaller than the one in Homewood but I do like that there is an option to eat on the patio here. The service was great and my food was brought out pretty fast. I don't think I ever ate anything new on the menu because the French Toast and Creole Omelette is that good that I do not want to try anything else lol. Eventually I will try something else but I definitely recommend this entree.

Yelp
Love it here and the manager is so hot ! The experience was great overall . Fast paced Nice workers

Yelp
I would like to start out by saying the ambiance is wonderful, the marketing is on point and the restaurant seems to be doing great! So...with that ...I never put my confidence into ambience or marketing. I played it safe and ordered the simplest of breakfast orders, a soft pitch, a breakfast sandwich( sausage, egg and cheese sandwich) with hash browns. And topped it off with a coffee. Simple right? Well, with all the food coming out of the kitchen, comparable to a F1- Formula 1 pit crew, I figured this would be a safe order with knock-out-of-the-park results! So it started with great coffee and no menu given to me. I'm guessing the waitress assumed I memorized the menu? No biggie. At this point, even the toast looked amazing. So I knew once I got my meal it would take a turd wrapped in a tortilla to screw up my appetite! Well, I got my cold biscuit sausage, egg and cheese sandwich and what looked like triangle shaped hash. Again...no biggie. I was hungry! I bit into my cold sandwich and eggs and cheese-good, biscuit-good, SAUSAGE-NOT SO GOOD. I've made breakfast sausage from scratch and there's some seasoning that you absolutely want to add which gives it that breakfast sausage taste. This sausage lacked every bit of seasoning that was needed to make it an actual breakfast sausage and not just some flavored meat. I have NEVER in my life taken out meat from my sandwich IN ANY FORM! I guess there's a first for everything! As for the "hash" browns I can only describe that as rubbery potatoes out of a box probably! Which leads me to this, if you want to call your breakfast restaurant, "Big Bad Breakfast" live up to your name cause there was NOTHING big or bad about it, unless you are living up to it, then call it Big BAD Breakfast.

Bob U.

Yelp
If, like me you really enjoy breakfast, BBB is a must. It's all good, I usually have difficulty choosing. We sat at the counter last visit, and enjoyed chatting with the help and others at the counter. BBB is always clean and neat
google avatar

Yelp
Wow, what an establishment. The food is always great. The service is very good, specially Jamal Penahoee he is just great. The place is always full but they find room for everyone. The location is a very nice area go to my review for farm bowl to see about the Homewood restaurants.
google avatar

Ken J.

Yelp
I like this place, when you can get in. Great breakfast options. Service is very good as well. I guess that's why it is busy... I would recommend this place to anyone on this side of town.
google avatar

Rosilyn H.

Yelp
Best vegetarian and gluten-free options! Also excellent lattes with dairy-free options for the intolerant. Accommodating with a smile!
google avatar

Yelp
Sooo good! Wow! This was a Yelp recommendation. 10 out of 10! We came to Birmingham for the weekend with the kids and it was our first stop! The portion sizes are great the food was amazing! I tried fat back bacon for the first time and fell in love! So glad we visited! Highly recommended

Samu P.

Yelp
Great food. First time to this location and it did not disappoint. The porch was great for having the pooches join us for a brunch. Quick seating at 12:30 on a Saturday, which is a plus. Great service. Would return.

Donnie G.

Yelp
Service and food was great! Highly recommend! It was a great Birthday Brunch! Thanks BBB and Nana!
google avatar

Holland M.

Yelp
BBB's avocado toast is the perfect mix of hearty & healthy. The ingredients were fresh, & the eggs were poached to perfection. I appreciated the gluten free (GF) option, as well as the separate prep space. The server was knowledgeable & attentive- even replaced the watermelon with strawberries in my side of fruit after she overheard I don't like melons. This is easily one of the best GF avo toasts in Birmingham! Suggestion- Label the menu with common allergens. This will decrease the amount of questions asked, speed up ordering, & ease the customer. :)
google avatar

Yelp
A restaurant with "bad" in it's name better be good or it's name could be it's demise. Thankfully BBB delivered on Wednesday morning. I met friends for breakfast at 8:30. The restaurant was busy, but there wasn't a wait for a table. I had the Breakfast Skillet and it was big and bad (in the good way). Three eggs are scrambled with bacon, sausage, ham, potatoes, and onions. The mix is topped with cheddar cheese. It is served with a biscuit. This is a lot of food, and I could only finish half of it.

Justine S.

Yelp
Poor service, food wasn't good. The server made a substitution to my order without asking me and I ended up being allergic to the substitution.

Laura K.

Yelp
The Ham & Cheese Omelette is to die for! It's a very savory dish with Swiss cheese and perfectly cooked ham. The breakfast wrap is sooooooo good my mouth could explode with tasty goodness so...GO TO BIG BAD BREAKFAST NOW!
google avatar

Charles K.

Yelp
I always look for great places to eat whenever I move into a new area. I tried Big Bad Breakfast this morning and it was fantastic! Clean comfy seating area, friendly staff and the food was fresh, hot and delicious! It's the kind of place you can eat and hang out for a while. I highly recommend this place!

Katie B.

Yelp
Visited this location on New Year's Day. The service was phenomenal. The food was delicious. Overall wonderful experience.
google avatar

Lara L.

Yelp
Love me some big bad breakfast. They are consistently just great food. We get take out a lot because it is so busy. Their biscuits and BLT cannot be matched! I do wish they would have a non-spicy option. The regular sausage and chicken fingers are a little too spicy for my kids. But that's my only complaint. Fantastic wait staff. Cally W. Is phenomenal.

Brodey R.

Yelp
Really great food, solid drinks, and great service. Will definitely visit again sometime soon

Joshua P.

Yelp
Service was amazing with kind and efficient staff. I got the chicken and waffles and in my personal opinion, it could've been better, but I believe that's due to personal preference rather than the quality of the food itself. The building is very inviting, I wouldn't come here by myself or suggest it but I wouldn't be opposed to coming again, there's definitely some worse places.
google avatar

Kevin T.

Yelp
I had the pancakes and they didn't disappoint. Service was great. My 1st time visiting the 280 location and I will definitely be back.

Jeffery M.

Yelp
Great morning, breakfast, staff, and a little Billy Joel in the background. A great way to end the week.
google avatar

Heather L.

Yelp
This place was delicious!! I forget what benny I ordered but there is a hashbrown under there. Eggs were poached perfectly and the hashbrown was a nice addition instead of the usual english muffin. Fresh squeezed orange juice is always a plus and the biscuits were great too.

J N.

Yelp
Food is great, tasty and filling! Service is quick. Use the checking in the app. Ambiance outside is beautiful and inside can be loud. Great place to meet up after a long night.
google avatar

Steve R.

Yelp
Visited for the 3rd time in 5 weeks. Lots of parking in shopping center. This is my new fav breakfast spot. There has been a wait each time. I sat at bar. Last time ordered the mother of all chicken biscuits. This time ordered the 'henny" with chicken and grits. Food was excellent! Great service from Maddie!
google avatar

Paige L.

Yelp
Hubby and I stopped in for breakfast while on a weekend get-away to Birmingham. We are at the other location last time we visited and enjoyed our food. This location was closer to our hotel, so decided to give it a whirl. Yummy food, fast service, cute decor. Bigger than the Homewood location. Join the waitlist on Yelp!
google avatar

Alyssa A.

Yelp
Service 10/10 Carlos was absolutely fantastic with timing and making sure we were enjoying everything. Probably one of the better servers we've had in Alabama even with the restaurant being busy. The hostess was super friendly and the busser was truly working so hard. Food 9/10 The food was hearty and really did fill you up. Our eyes were definitely bigger than our stomachs. The only reason it lost a point was due to some pinkness in the chicken towards the end of my meal, the rest of it the chicken was cooked perfectly. Honestly, it just seemed like they were busy and it was a slip up. And even then I was so full from eating the rest of my meal that I didn't even get to it.
