Yelp
I'm of the impression that this place HAD its glory days.
We came here because it was within walking distance from our hotel, which isn't the best reason/recommendation. There's a lot of fast food places (and a Denny's, for what it's worth) nearby. I had a friend at work whose husband liked it, and I knew where it was located. That's it.
My next question is WHEN did they visit this place?
I did remember on previous trip to Paso Robles, that we almost visited this place, but, it was busy, and we didn't have time to wait, so we got on the road and went elsewhere. That was then. That sounds like something we would do.
This time, the parking lot looked empty.
It's around 4:30 pm on a Saturday, December 28th.
Interior-wise, the place reminded me of Armadillo Willy's, or a Famous Dave's, up north.
We did have someone promptly take our order and print the bill.
Food and Beverages-Pork Spare Ribs ($23.49, including the 2.50 upcharge for Mac and Cheese for the one side item), Central Coast BBQ Plate ($24.99, includes 1/2 Chicken, Tri-tip, Baked beans, two half slices of Texas toast and salad), 25 oz. Pacifico (10.49), Mind Haze IPA (8.50) and a 20 percent+ tip (15.00) that you have to automatically include on the payment BEFORE you know if the food is any good. I'm not found of that practice.
So, as I'm signing the CC payment, the food is ready for pickup.
No table service, plastic utensils, and you bus your table. There's a basic BBQ sauce on the table.
I kind of assumed there would be more varieties of BBQ sauce over merely one type.
Food- kind of dry. This is why it was ready before I finished signing the bill.
The chicken was kind of dry. It needed the BBQ sauce. My husband's spare ribs looked okay, but, again, it needed the BBQ sauce. The mac and cheese? It was okay, but tasted like the predictable, pre-made, nuked in a bag, mac and cheese that we've had at other restaurants. The baked beans, not that exceptional.
It was more like something I can open from a can at home.
There wasn't anything impressive about the place or the food.
It's probably good for someone with a less adventurous palate.
It's on par with some catering service that would be used for a corporate event/lunch, wouldn't offend anyone, and met the required specifications of the client. I just thought it would be better.
It was overpriced and mediocre.
For the amount of money we paid, I would, at least, expect table service.
We could do better at a Chili's restaurant.
On the following day, I was informed of a better place in downtown Paso Robles. That's for next time. We had to get back on the road.
