Google
Big Catch is easily my go-to sushi spot in Calgary! The fish is super fresh, the rolls are packed with flavour, and everything is always beautifully put together. I love that the menu has both the classics and some fun, creative options. The staff are awesome—friendly, quick, and they make you feel right at home. The vibe is relaxed, and the food always hits the spot. If you love sushi (or want to start loving sushi), you’ve gotta check this place out. I’m already looking forward to my next visit!

Google
This was our first time here and it was excellent. The sashimi is cut thick and the nigiri and oshi are amazing! Great presentation of everything. Friendly and helpful staff. A little noisy but you can still have a conversation. We'll definitely be coming back.

Google
We had an amazing dining experience yesterday when we ordered the Flower Platter for takeout. Everything was incredibly fresh, and the balance of flavors and proportions was absolutely perfect. Thank you for such high-quality, beautifully crafted sushi — we’ll definitely be back!

Google
Very tasty sushi, good quality, friendly staff and good service! Had the deluxe sashimi and a bunch of their square sushi things. Pretty pricey, but worth it! Made reservations for a table, got seated straight away.

Google
The Sushi was very good. It was authentic Sushi. They didn’t overload the Sushi with sauces like other places need to. The fish was delicious on its own. Everything was displayed beautifully. The portions were a bit small and we left hungry.

I love this place. I usually order out which is fantastic. First time eating in and the food was as good and fresh as always. The staff are very friendly and happy. Cute little spot. Amazing sushi both in and out of the restaurant. Highly recommend.

Google
Great sushi. We decided last minute we would like some sushi for dinner. Stopped in ordered a takeout a the desk. Had our order ready in about 10 minutes. Had a wonderful chat with the host. All round pleasurable experience. We have order sushi from here numerous times it has always been good.

Google
Big Catch has a really special place in my heart. I discovered this restaurant ~2018 and have come back numerous times to bring friends, relatives, and for celebrations. The quality of the raw fish is always on point, the aburi style sushi is beautifully arranged, presented, and taste amazing. This was the first restaurant I'd seen use edible flowers to enhance their presentation. I last visited on my birthday this year and they came out with a dessert and a little card which I thought was so sweet. The owner and the servers really care about their customers. Because it is pricey I try to reserve it for celebrations or when friends from our of town visit, but food-wise I am never disappointed. I've always said Big Catch is my favorite Japanese restaurant in Calgary and I don't think that will ever change. Proud to have a Big Catch bias (:

Yelp
The family had a craving for sushi and we were around the Chinook/Macleod Trail area so found this restaurant. It's in a mixed use area of residential and commercial. There was plenty of parking. The place is not very big and we had to wait a few minutes for a table to open up before we were seated. The restaurant is very nicely decorated. We ordered the Atlantic Salmon Sashimi, Albacore Tuna Sashimi, Saba Sashimi, Tropic Rush Roll, California Roll, Veggie Tempura, and House Green Salad. Everything was super fresh and tasted great. The family really enjoyed the meal. The staff were friendly. There is a QR code that you get the menu and you can order off the site (create account) or let the staff know what you want to order. I think the restaurant is better for couples, friends, or business meetings. There was nothing wrong for our family but just the vibe and ambience I think caters to more intimate setting. Prices also were more expensive so bringing a family with big appetites could set you back. We had a great time and enjoyed the food.

Yelp
Ever since trying pressed sushi for the first time at Vancouver's Miku, one of the first things I do every time I sit down to plan a trip to Canada is research the city's best oshizushi spot. Big Catch's menu immediately enticed me with the extensive selection offered, and was one of the most anticipated meals of our trip. We started off the meal with their house made yuzu-infused ginger beer, which was refreshingly light, citrusy and officially takes the cake for my favorite ginger beer of all time. As you can see from the photos, the painstaking attention to detail and pride that they have in their craft shines through in the dazzlingly aesthetic sushi pieces that are *almost* too pretty to eat. I was literally giddy seeing the plate come out because of how beautiful everything looked. To start off, I would highly recommend the Madai Nigiri, a delicately sweet red sea bream that is perfect to kick off your meal before digging into the special rolls. The menu offers a pretty extensive selection of rolls with a variety of protein options (wagyu, Miso-braised pork and mushrooms in addition to the standard fish). Everything we got was incredibly tasty (Autumn Haze, Magic Mushroom, Iron Goddess, Saba Blaze) but the most memorable standout was the Magic Mushroom, which comes with 4 different kinds of Japanese mushrooms topped with a bomb truffle sauce, making for an exquisite little bundle of umami that may be one of the best vegan rolls I've ever had. To finish off our delicious meal, we got the sweet potato panna cotta, which checked off all the boxes: unique, not-too-sweet and portioned just right for sharing. Service is top notch and the hostesses and servers are all incredibly sweet. Our bill came with a personalized, hand-written punny note and adorable drawing, which was a nice quirky touch to make our meal even more memorable. This charming little restaurant absolutely deserves a spot on every sushi lover's Calgary itinerary (online takeout is available and popular but I have to insist you dine in for dinner)!

Yelp
Oh my goddess this place is gorgeous! I absolutely loved the food. Had their miso soup, sockeye salmon nigiri and the spicy salon roll, everything was delicious and they have little heart imprints on the wasvi

Yelp
Wonderfully small, beautifully decorated Sushi restaurant. The service was excellent, our waitress was pleasant and very helpful. My son and I went here on a snowy Saturday, and besides a table of 6 we were the only ones In the restaurant. The dining area is small, with close tables and from my experience, it does seem that it may get a bit loud when packed with diners. The menu is eye catching ( we used our phone, not to sure if they have a physical menu) both in offerings and in price. THIS IS NOT A CHEAP DINING EXPERIENCE! Saying that, it is a Sushi experience like no other that I have come across, ANYWHERE I have dined in my travels! We started with the Spicy Miso soup, almost a Ramen like broth, with a bit of heat. (My heat tolerance is very high as well as my son) so would this be to hot for you? I'm not to sure. RECOMMENDED! Followed by the Shrimp Tempura, again, some of the best that I have had. We even left a couple of pieces until the end of the meal and those were as crispy and held shape when lifted by the tail as the first shrimp! RECOMMEND! Lastly we had the Jupiter Rain Premium Oshi. A feast for the eyes! Each piece was so delicious and almost melt in your mouth. RECOMMENDED! We also had the green Tea, this was free refills, and was nice and hot. An excellent Sushi experience, the whole meal was out of this world! Unfortunately, my only down side to this dining experience was for spending $59 for 2 people, (including tip) we did walk away hungry. Not starving, but hungry. They had my favourite Sushi, Unagi Nigiri (BBQ Eel), but these were almost $5 a piece, and between my self and my son we could have easily polished off 6 pieces. So, great experience, excellent Sushi, quality through the roof, but you're gonna pay for it.

Max G.

Yelp
The prices were unbelievably expensive. 10.95 for a 6 pcs California roll 10.95 for 6pcs dynamite roll Wasn't even very good

Mari P.

Yelp
Omg everything from the service to the food was just fantastic! We are new to Calgary & this was the first sushi experience here - this little gem is just amazing! Has to be experienced

Yelp
This place is very small but extremely popular- especially the online takeout. As of today, they are only open for dining Thursday thru Sunday. Book reservations in advance as it gets crowded quickly. I have had almost everything on the menu and it is all great. Everything is fresh and flavorful. When you leave - the only thing on your mind is when you want to return.

Yelp
I heard about Big Catch from my colleagues. This restaurant has 3 different pricing on three different menus. Prices on SkipTheDishes are the most expensive of the 3 menus, second would be the dine-in menu and lastly the take out menu. Both the SkipTheDishes and the take out menu have platters and combos. The dine-in menu doesn't offer platters or combos but they have special of the day items. When I say special of the day, I do not mean cheaper prices for the item they have listed as special of the day. The name "special of the day" should have been called "feature of the day". So here is an example: The Big Catch Combo on SkipTheDishes is $21.45 and if you went there and had it to go it would be $16.50. Yes that is a big difference. Another example would be their special Oishi Sushi: Eat in $15.95, Takeout $14.75 and Skip $19.15. Pricing of every item that are the same on the three menus are all different. If you are ordering platters or combos the price differences are huge. Don't forget the delivery charge on Skip as well. Just one platter on Skip vs take-out price difference ranges from $20 to $40. I live in Downtown and it takes me about 20 mins to get from downtown to Big Catch. I came on a weekday when it was about -17 degrees and I thought to myself if I wanted to dine in or take out (to save a few $$). I ended up dining in instead. Sushi tastes a lot better if eaten right away. I ended up getting the 2 Oishi sushi: Autumn Haze and The Una. First off, I really liked the way the presented the dishes. It was really nice laid out. The sushi was made with care. I really liked the flavor. All the ingredients were fresh. The flavor in the autumn haze was interesting because they added like peppermint leaf or some sort of minty leaf in the sushi. The Una had the unique non spicy ginger topped on the sushi. The flavor was so unique that I have never had it in sushi back in Vancouver or in Japan before. Don't get me wrong, the chef and server here are Japanese and I am sure the sushi here are very authentic. I am sure there are restaurants in Japan that serves sushi using the ingredients they used to bring out that unique flavoring. I liked the decorations or sauces that they put on the side of the plate. They were very light in flavor but they were good. The wasabi was stamped with a nice flower and that was very pretty making the entire dish photogenic worthy. At the end, I also got dessert. I got the Sweet Potato Panna Cotta. It was small but it was very light and refreshing. It had a very light hint of sweetness all from the natural sweet potato. Desserts are not offered on the Take-out or the Skip menu. Service here was awesome. I was checked on couple times on how thing were going. Like most Japanese restaurants in Calgary and towns, tea is not free. There is a $1.25 charge for tea. I ended up getting hot water with lemon. I had enough tea at work already and don't think I want to drink any more. Décor inside is really nice. The restaurant is very small and I do suggest making a reservation when coming here. I came on a cold day and there was a table available right away. In Calgary, it is not easy to find a good Sushi or Japanese Restaurant. I have tried many Japanese restaurants in Calgary and it has always been a hit or miss. Prices are always on the higher end when it comes to specialty restaurant like Big Catch. Being from Vancouver, Calgary doesn't have a lot of good Japanese options. I do highly recommend trying Big Catch. The restaurant is located inside the Heritage Station Development Plaza. There are plenty of free parking out front.

Yelp
This is a cute japanese restaurant with amazing customer service. The restaurant is quite small, maybe 16 tables.. The drink menu is folded into origami folded on the table. Menu has lots of colorful photos to assist in decision making.. The food comes out beautifully plated. The wasabi is fresh and it's all in the details.. the plate garnish was impeccable, like art! We ordered bluefin tuna sashimi and it was melt in your mouth! The rest of the sushi was very nice as well.. we had the ginger, rosemary creme bruleè and sweet potato pana cotta for dessert. They don't charge outrageous for the desserts either. I had a yuzu lemonade which was fresh and delicious! We were offered more tea even after we paid the bill, which is often overlooked at other restaurants. I am very pleased with this entire experience. Would both reccomend and return!

Yelp
After hearing great things about Big Catch, my boyfriend and I decided to stop by to celebrate our 5 year anniversary. I had messaged them on Instagram to ask if they were going to be open, as it was a stat holiday on the day we wanted to visit. They said yes, and were kind enough to help me book a reservation through IG! However, when I arrived, they didn't have any record of the reservation :( There was a free table in the corner, but I didn't like how it felt super cramped. Oh well. I started off with a sangria, which was okay but not as sweet as I'd like. We ordered the Chef's Sashimi to start (~$24) which comes with 12 pcs of sashimi - we had a mix of salmon (4 pieces), tuna (4 pieces), hamachi (2 pieces) and bluefin tuna (2 pieces). All of the sashimi was super fresh! (And I was born and raised in Vancouver, so you know I'm picky about my sushi). The presentation for all of the food we ordered was on point! Made for a great experience, and also great Instagram photos (haha). For rolls this is what we ordered: Ruby Sky - bluefin tuna - I wasn't a huge fan of the sauce (it was very salty). I would probably pass on this one unless you're a huge fan of the umami flavours. Autumn Haze - a tasty option for salmon aburi, but the green halo was our favourite! Green Halo - your classic salmon aburi sushi. Was one of our favourites of the night, we liked the spicy kick. Passion Sunrise - surprisingly one of my favourite rolls of the night, despite not being an aburi roll. Would reorder again! Dynamite Roll - your standard stuff, my boyfriend wanted this one I really regret not ordering the Iron Goddess (wagyu beef aburi). Next time! We couldn't resist trying one of their desserts and went with the Matcha White Chocolate Panna Cotta ($2.75). The dessert is very cheap by dessert standards but was a small portion. There was a lot of intense matcha flavour, if you're into that! One thing that I will note is that so many people raved about the excellent service but unfortunately I did not have the same experience. No one came to refill our water and service was only mediocre. Nonetheless, the food was tasty so I would return! It is a little more on the expensive side, but definitely worth it for a special occasion or simply, a treat yourself kind of meal!

Yelp
When art and sushi come together . Everything was delicious and we couldn't have picked a better place for my birthday dinner service was spectacular too! . If I had to pick one dish, I would recommend the Iron Goddess - Brant Lake wagyu with Japanese shiso. It was perfection

Yelp
Big Catch is located next to Tim Hortons. Had: Prawn Tempura (Ok) $9.95 Green Halo (Good) $15.95 Jupiter Rain (Good) $15.95 First time trying Unagi Nigiri (It was really good) ($3.45 per) Spicy Tuna Roll (was ok, just like any other sushi restaurants) ($6.50) And had some other Nigiri sushi like Salmon ($2.45 per) and Albacore Tuna ($2.45 per) There some missing sushi that I order that's wasn't on the plate (had to re-order them) The special roll (rectangle cube size) seem small. Nigiri sushi (has small portion of rice) which is good or bad depends on how you want your sushi. Anyway when you leave, they even lend you out the door. Unique experience, first restaurant that I went to that do that. They make you feel, your important to them. Haha Overall: Had good experience! Food is good but could be better. *Wish there more option tho.

Yelp
Extremely friendly service and beautiful plating. All of the items we ordered were of high quality and tasted amazing. The restaurant is quite small with limited tables and does get a bit loud but still an enjoyable experience. We had squid tempura, assorted sashimi, dynamite rolls , autum haze , and passion sunrise. For dessert the ginger cream brûlée and sweet potato panacotta (holy cow amazing desserts) If you are into ordering a large variety of different rolls this probably isn't the place . Most options come with 7 rolls and it is a bit pricier (than most places I usually go to but you can tell the it is higher quality). Would recommend and would come back.
google avatar

Christine L.

Yelp
Went to the new restaurant and we enjoyed our meal. We ordered a couple of appetizers, two speciality rolls, nigiri and a regular dynamite roll. I particularly enjoyed the Autumn Haze roll and tuna nigiri. Tuna was melt in your mouth. The Autumn Haze had a subtle smoky flavour from the scorched salmon. The food is presented beautifully. Seriously, a work of art. The sauces on the side are edible, as are the flowers and other garnishes. Big Catch doesn't rely on mayonnaise or creamy sauces for flavour. Big Catch still does big takeout. Their takeout menu is specially priced combos and platters. I've ordered from Big Catch for parties and it's always a big hit.
google avatar

Maria C.

Yelp
A PLUS PLUS SERVICE there is a huuuuge, I mean huge.... 3 pages of roll selection. I'm so glad that I went with a group of 6 people! The nigri and sashimi is super fresh! The appetizers were so good as well!!!!

Yelp
First things first, this place is located inside a farmers market. I almost left when I saw the empty parking lot. Coupled with the awesome ratings and the lack of people it was a total contradiction. After getting over my initial hesitation I proceeded to look at the menu. When I looked at the menu I was totally impressed. Amazing food, amazing presentation. Wow. Sorry about the picture. I was so hungry I ate half before remembering to take a photo. I recommend everything. The salmon miso soup was awesome and the agedashi tofu was heavenly. Btw, I showed up at 12:00 pm Sunday. By the time we got our food the seats were all taken and there was a line up. Definitely recommend this place. I will definitely come back. I

Yelp
Always consistent and I enjoy the Oshi Sushi and the chicken nanban. The little extras like the always cute notes and flower for presentation show they really appreciate their customers.

Yelp
This is the polar opposite of the my previous sushi bar review, although both restaurants are good. Personally, I don't get the whole multi-ingredient roll thing. Very Canadian, I guess. That said, I have never seen such beautiful and elaborate sushi presentation. The plating is truly gorgeous. Little works of art. The fish quality is very high. We had one roll and a variety of Nigiri, all the fish was very good. I found the rice to be a little under-seasoned, another nod to Canadian diners, I am guessing. Chicken Karaage was excellent, crispy and tender, with a sweet sauce and white sauce that was sort of like a loose-liquidy potato salad. Don't know how else to describe it... I think it was mostly there for visual appeal. Successful dish. Tempura was perfectly crispy, with nice fresh fish and veg inside. The sauce here too was on the weak side, and we could have used more daikon oroshi. Might be an idea to offer it with salt, as an alternative. This kitchen is clearly talented. I'd like to see what they'd serve to a room full of Japanese people. This is a pretty little room, in a strip mall. No sushi bar, which is too bad. I like to see them preparing. Service was very quick, servers are super friendly.

Yelp
After reading the numerous 5 star reviews for Big Catch, we got really excited to try their sushi. So we decided to go there for our anniversary lunch "food crawl". So for our first time eating there we ordered their Big Catch combo( 6 piece dynamite roll, 6 piece picy tuna roll, and 6 piece California roll) and the Jupiter roll. All of the rolls tasted great and the food presentation was beautiful! Much better than most full fledge restaurants. The service was amazing and personable. The whole experience just blew us away. We wished we went to Big Catch last cause after our anniversary "food crawl" we felt that we started with the best part of our crawl(Big Catch) and we probably should have ended there! I have decided that Big Catch is this little gem of sushi paradise in the small Market on MacLeod. Definitely recommend it to friends and family. Already looking forward to coming back soon and bringing the rest of our family with us.

Yelp
What a wonderful surprise! Big Catch Sushi is located in the Market on MacLeod. Given the market is slightly run down, this is not a place you would expect to get good seafood. Well, I was wrong. Big Catch not only serves up delicious seafood freshly prepared, but it's presented beautifully like a work of art. You can really tell that they take pride in their food. On this first visit I shared two combos: the veggie and the spicy. A combo comes with three rolls of six pieces each for less than $15. Each off the rolls was perfectly sized, tightly wrapped and stuffed full of seafood and/or avocado. On the platter, the sushi rolls were served with amble ginger, wasabi and extra sauce dots flavoured with herbs, turmeric and spice. With the market closing in October, 2018, Big Catch does have to move. Fortunately, they are in the process of securing a new space. I'm looking forward to being able to visit them again in a new space with (hopefully) longer service hours.

Yelp
I eat sushi in almost every city I go to and I have to say that this is the BEST inland sushi I have ever had. The fish was fresh and the flavors great. This restaurant paid attention to all the little details including how to best flavor their sushi rice (which was delicious). We had the sockeye salmon maki, albacore tuna maki and magic mushroom rolls. All I can say is that they were all fabulous and the truffle sauce on the magic mushroom rolls was to die for. Also, the food was very pretty. Normally when you get takeout you don't expect it to look great. When we got to our hotel the food was beautiful and it even had a little orchid. Finally, I love personalized touches and found the note they wrote me very sweet. The drawing they included made me smile. I will definitely be coming back here and can't wait for next time.

Yelp
I love this sushi. The presentation is lovely, taste is amazing and service is so friendly. I highly recommend this as one of the best places in Calgary!

Yelp
Didn't eat here Drove there to find out that they are Closed Mondays and only doing takeout the rest of the week. Had to leave stars, so I gave them what most do

Yelp
Big Catch was definitely a "catch" of a place to find when looking for a new sushi place in the south of Calgary. Inside you'll find a sleek, contemporary atmosphere with an open kitchen and spacious, comfortable seating. Our server was extremely attentive and we actually had two servers filling our green tea and water up frequently (sometimes without asking). The sushi presentation was second to none in the city. They also have kyoto-style sushi (pressed instead of rolled) which is a nice change, although their sushi roll called Meteor Rain was the best one we ordered. Avoid the Autumn Haze kyoto sushi, it's too simple and has a weird floral flavour. However the Jupiter Rain has more diversity of ingredients and is much more savoury. The sashimi was also excellent, soft and melt-in-your-mouth like, presented in a huge glass conch, so cool! Check this place out... definitely! Also see our full review here: https://bestcalgaryhomes.com/big-catch-sushi-bar-restaurant-review/

Yelp
Best sushi I had in Calgary. The level of customer service was amazing. Highly recommend.

Jennifer And Griffin M.

Yelp
Such a beautiful sushi experience. Everything is presented so beautifully and the staff was all so lovely. We're so happy that we found this gem of a restaurant. It will be our go to for sushi from now on.

J P.

Yelp
Hands down the best sushi I've had in Calgary. It was a bit of a drive from where we were staying but it was definitely worth it. The highlight items we ordered for takeout were: - assorted sashimi - iron goddess - magic mushroom If you are a fan of oshi sushi, this is a must try! A bit on the expensive side but well worth it.
google avatar

Elizabeth K.

Yelp
This gem is in the Market on MacLeod around 76th ave and is my go to place for sushi in Calgary! You may want to note that this is a stall in the market, not a sit down restaurant, but there are tables and chairs to sit down an eat. It has more of a bustling atmosphere, not trendy or romantic. The menu is not huge but there's still plenty of rolls to choose from, with their special rolls being far more creative and delicious than I've had at other places. Its Japanese run with very friendly staff and they also carry stamp cards. Very fresh fish and seafood, good sushi rice, stupidly tasty flavour combinations, and very nice presentation when you eat in.... sometimes when I get takeout too! Highly recommended!

Yelp
Like them a lot more back when they were still at the Farmers Market, and I went there a lot. Decided to finally give their restaurant a visit and I must say the experience was nothing like before. Back then, they were very personable, remembered me by name, and we'd chat. Nowadays, they've got wait staff who are polite and courteous, but the owners mostly stay in the kitchen. My coworker experienced the exact same when she went. Food is still good - sashimi was very fresh but the price have increased quite a bit. Presentation is still as beautiful as ever. I get that things cost more since rent must be a lot more now, but portions for their specialty rolls (~$15?) for 7 small pieces is quite steep. My friend and I spent $95 on lunch and we were still hungry after (we ordered sashimi, some nigiri and some rolls). For that price we can have great sushi in the NW and not having to drive 30 min across town for.
google avatar

Alexes H.

Yelp
Great sushi place. Amazing presentation and their take on things is a little more modern. Really like the mushroom pressed roll, but everything we have had has been great. Best fir going there as they have great presentation. Looking forward to our next visit
google avatar

Tam M.

Yelp
A little hidden gem in the south! Their sushi taste so fresh but this is my new favourite sushi place in Calgary for taste and Esthetics. I love that they are the very few that makes pressed sushi. This place is not big so not recommended for big parties. I don't remember the names of their sushi but it was the mushroom truffle one and another salmon one just give them all a try!!!

Leanne L.

Yelp
Really good sushi. One of my top places in Calgary. I love that they use brown rice in their sushi. Very unique flavour. The service is excellent weather you dine in or take out. Love love love this place!

Hong M.

Yelp
Always an amazing experience here. The service is super friendly, plating is beautiful and sushi is always fresh and tasty. It is fairly small though, so I suggest making reservations.

Yelp
(Review is for their new restaurant location, though they were still amazing at their previous market locale) Where do I start with the praise? Service: Everyone here is exceptionally friendly, polite, and professional. If you start coming somewhat regularly, the staff will begin to remember your names and may even start to recognize you over the phone. They are constantly checking on you to have your water or tea filled as well. Your orders (barring a huge order) usually comes out very quickly. Food: The real reason you came here. I've been to every sushi restaurant in Calgary and can easily say this is the best sushi you will get in the city. The nigiri selection is quite large and all of them are amazingly presented and taste delicious. I'm particular to the tuna selections, but the salmon is also quite delicious. Oh, also unagi (eel), definitely worth trying. The sashimi is incredibly fresh. If you order by the fish you want, the staff will always notify you of what is freshest and has the best cuts so you can tune your order to the best availability of fish. Otherwise, there are options to let the chefs curate a plate for you. I highly recommend this, it has never let us down. You'll always get the best assortment for the day. As for your standard sushi rolls? There is a diverse selection of flavours. From sweet to savoury I guarantee you will find a roll to your liking. Most notably is that the rolls are filled with more traditional ingredients, you aren't going to find a cream cheese stuffed roll to add filling. Everything in there is to jam pack it with flavour, leaving you feeling satisfied instead of bloated. The presentation of everything is on another level. I guarantee you will be amazed at the plating going on here. Words can't describe how gorgeous these plates are. Okay, other than sushi, what do they have? There is an appetizer for what is similar to karaage chicken. Except the batter is so delicately light and zesty. It comes with a delicious mayo like sauce. You'll get a good four or more pieces, perfect as a way to whet your appetite. Drinks: For non-alcoholic drinks, try the house made ginger ale. It has fresh ginger inside with citrus juices. It's not super overwhelming but has a good ginger kick and a nice orange-tamarind after taste. Everyone who has tried it has loved it. The cocktail selection is select, but top notch. My wife particularly loves the Tokyo Fog and the sangria cocktail. I can't be more specific than that. We just order them and they disappear. Too delicious. Atmosphere: It is a minimalist, subtle decor. There are beautiful flower arrangements by the window. A tatami and screen door like color scheme. Tables are well organized to allow the staff to easily get around to and serve everyone. Both the booths and the chairs are comfortable and exceptionally clean. A dual kitchen-prep area arrangement allows the sushi chefs and main wait staff to make the most of the space. It's cozy and still good for inviting larger groups of friends and family out for dinner. Health considerations: If you are gluten sensitive or Celiac, they have a variety of dishes that will work for you, including soy sauce. To top it off, I can't tell the difference between a gluten free and a normal version of the rolls. They perform well in this department.

Yelp
The real deal. This is very authentic, and reasonably priced. They season their rice with red vinegar - which tells you EVERYTHING!

Yelp
I ordered sushi for me and my friends during the Corona pandemic. They packed it beautifully with a little note on the lid saying 'Thank you so much Mitchell enjoy the sushi and have a beautiful night '. Even when you can't dine in due to the quarantine, they still find ways to be super nice. When dinning in they are the best service I have ever experienced at any restaurant. The sushi is a bit pricey, but TOTALLY worth it. It is absolutely delicious and I can't describe my love for their food. Friendliest staff and Best sushi Ive ever tasted. Very good sushi for a very reasonable price considering the quality. Would highly recommend for anybody don't miss out on trying the sushi from this small little restaurant, it is to die for. Thank you Big Catch!

Yelp
Un. Freaking. BELIEVABLE. No joke. Big Catch was recommended to me by my brother and it was spot on! My boyfriend, my daughter and I went in on Saturday around 12:30 and were greeted by all of the staff. The ambiance was calming, but vibrant. We checked out the menu, boyfriend and daughter ordered sake. I had a house made ginger ale - delish! We ordered their speciality rolls, the Nine-One-One, the Y.R.A, the Wegyu, and the Magic Mushroom. The flavours were surreal. Everything was so fresh and delicious! Our servers explained every dish, and were super helpful. We crushed those and then ordered the Ebi Mayo, and the assorted tempura, they were all cooked to perfection. We finished off with the matcha panna cotta and the rose yuzu sorbet. TL;DR: everything about this place was amazing. The staff have an obvious passion for t what can only be described as art. Plating was stunning, and they used edible flowers! You can see the pride they take in their craft. I live in Saskatoon and am already looking forward to going back!

Yelp
Unexpected freshness from a "food court" stand... albeit it was at the farmers market. The sushi here was quite delicious! My fellow yelper and I decided to try this out because a mutual friend of ours recommended it. The rolls were crafted thinking of complimentary flavours. We ordered the special platter (quite gluttonous for 2 people), which was adorned with 6 rolls: passion sunrise, rodeo rider, tropic rush, zesty avalanche, meteor rain, and 9-1-1. One of my favourites was the meteor rain as it was spicy and was topped with torched seared salmon, being filled with crabmeat and salmon. Runner up was the rodeo rider filled with tuna and salmon, but the highlight was the spicy sauce and GARLIC CHIPS! Such great dimension of flavour in this one. Third place was 9-1-1 as the heat this one packed was spot on. Tuna and crunchy wonton bits topped with salmon, fire sauce, tobiko, and cayenne pepper really brings all the flavour and texture to the bite. Definitely worth the visit, but bring more people so you can both try more rolls and not feel like you're going to burst at the end.

Yelp
I had heard good things from @maggiem about The Big Catch, so I had to go and check it out for myself! Went with @paulp and ordered the Special Platter. This platter feeds 3 people but we were hungry and did the classic over-order! The Special Platter includes: 1 Passion Sunrise, 1 Rodeo Rider, 1 Tropic Rush, 1 Zesty Avalanche, 1 Meteor Rain, 1 Nine One One. All were fresh and had a great combination of flavors. The presentation was also amazing, nicer than most sit down sushi restaurants that I've been to. I wish we were able to try the Chicago roll too, but we were stuffed. We had 7 pieces left over...but in reality, we should have had more, because we were eating well after we were full in efforts not to waste our order! So again, 3 people could easily share this platter and splitting the cost between 3 people makes it very affordable for the quality and amount of sushi you get. Take note that it is a kiosk inside Market On McLeod, so its not a "restaurant," but don't let that stop you from checking out this place if you love sushi. I will definitely be back to try more things on the menu!

Yelp
I've been on a sushi kick as of late (see: always). More so than usual, as I've had it 3 times in the last week. After the disappointment that was Kin Sushi at YYCFM, I was hesitant to get sushi again at the Farmers Market, but what convinced me to try out Big Catch was: A) The positive reviews from trusted Yelp homies B) The varied vegan options on their menu C) The friendly sushi chefs that were making rolls right before your eyes, rather than making them all in the morning and packaging them in sad looking Safeway-esque trays D) The long lineup I ordered the Veggie Catch Combo, which consisted of their veggie roll (romaine lettuce, daikon, avocado and cucumber), avocado roll, and cucumber roll. I also ordered a seaweed salad. The server taking my order noticed that I had ordered vegetarian items and let me know that their seaweed salad normally comes with caviar on top, but they would be happy to leave it out. He also gave me a Big Catch card, which is a card they stamp for every $10 you spend. After you hit ten, you get a complimentary roll. After paying, I was handed a beeper and told my dishes would be ready soon. The wait wasn't very long, and I was presented with a beautiful tray of food that was garnished with the most adorable carrot, radish and wasabi flowers. Everything was delicious, and I really appreciated that the veggie roll wasn't so large that everything fell apart the moment I dipped it in to soy sauce. The care for preparation was very evident with each bite. I also appreciated that their pickled ginger wasn't dyed a bizarre, nuclear shade of pink. The wasabi at Big Catch ain't nothin' to eff with. It's wonderfully potent. The only downside to Big Catch is that they're only open 4 days a week, and only during 9-5 (with takeout hours during 5-7), but if you can hang tight until the end of the week to fill your belly with huppay sushi goodness, they are worth waiting for.

Yelp
Outstanding sushi, as expensive as other YYC joints but this one stands out for freshness, creativity, and for delivering a great customer experience. Eat here.

Yelp
Really good and authentic sushi. The guy at the counter is extremely friendly. We ordered the 911, Alaskan and ten pieces of sashimi. They tasted awesome. Super fresh and had a good combination of flavours. Their plating is also very creative, they made a dragon using wasabi! Wow!

Yelp
Really great sushi for the price. Service was awesome too, the guy really took his time to make recommendations according to what we liked. It seems like they mostly focus on rolls as most of their menu covers the various rolls they offer. However, we ordered some sashimi on the side too and it was fresh and tasted great. Would totally recommend. The miso soup was really good too. The presentation of the food is great and I thought it was kind of funny that we were eating off of a gigantic plate. The food all tastes as good as they look though so don't worry :D I have to point out that the hours of operation are kinda wonky, and they do make everything once ordered so it takes them some time, especially if they are busy. I believe you can call to order take out/pick up. We spent our time walking around the farmer's market as they give you a buzzer for when your food is ready. Wouldn't recommend as a place to grab a quick bite.

Yelp
Wow!! Super impressed with this place! For a small spot at the farmers market, this place has some serious flavour and freshness for sushi. Everything on the menu looked amazing and it was really hard to narrow it down as I was a solo diner that afternoon. I will definitely be bringing back more people so I can sample more items. I decided on the rodeo rider roll (based on the recommendations from other yelpers), the autumn haze roll, which was a new edition, as well as salmon sashimi. First and foremost, I want to say that the presentation of the sushi is beautifully done, complete with gorgeous geode plate. The sushi also was absolutely delicious. I loved the subtle spice and crunch from the garlic chips from the rodeo rider roll, I really recommend that one if its your first time. The salmon sashimi also tasted really fresh. Another bonus is that they have brown rice as an option for no extra charge! They have lots of combos and platters, so this is an excellent place for take out sushi. I can't wait to come back for more! The only downside of this place is their hours as they are only open during the farmers market.

Yelp
Mighty fresh and tasty. Very clean and modern. Excellent experience with the service. In addition to the sushi basics, they had some very good custom items. Worth trying just for their own custom items.

Yelp
I started eating at Big Catch years ago when they were still in the market. I was so pleased when the brothers moved to their current location. They did a fabulous job decorating, and making the space feel modern, comfortable and current. The food is always delicious. Everything is made from scratch and is PERFECT every single time. They have inventive new rolls on the regular, and their cocktails are incredible. I normally don't indulge, but it's impossible not to enjoy a drink there. My absolute favourite roll is the Green Halo, and my partner is obsessed with the dumplings. I really can't say enough good things about Big Catch. Service, food, ambiance and consistency are all grade A. Takeout during Covid times has been easy with their online ordering system. As usual the takeout is beautifully made and displayed, and accompanied by handwritten thank you notes with little water colour sushi rolls. The personal touches bring me so much joy. This restaurant is maximum effort allllll the way.

Yelp
So fresh and beautiful presentation. Was in a hurry and I was accommodated within a short period of time. Tempura shrimp were huge. I will be back. Very clean inside. Very friendly staff.

Yelp
Quality sushi at an unassuming location. Coming from Vancouver, and now living in Edmonton, it was a nice surprise finding an authentic Japanese run sushi joint on the south side of Calgary. Service was excellent and selection varied with something for everyone. Quality of fish was fresh though consistency was not 100% through every dish. The house made drinks were quite refreshing and unique, and pair well with the seafood offerings. Price was on the expensive side and overall comparable to places such as Miku in Vancouver, though with value being slightly lower. However for all sushi restaurants in Alberta this is to be expected. Would definitely visit again if in the area.
