13 Restaurants in Philly for Crispy, Crunchy Fried Chicken | Eater Philly

"This new chicken spot at The Concourse at Comcast Center is founded by legendary NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal. Weekdays from lunch to early dinner, there’s a variety of chicken sandwiches (try the “Shaq Attack” with pepper jack cheese, jalapeño slaw, and spicy chipotle barbecue), popcorn chicken, and salads to choose from." - Ernest Owens

Was excited to try the chicken sandwich from Shaq’s restaurant. I checked out the menu on the website and was disappointed that this location offers only a fraction of the menu. The Shaq Attack sandwich I ordered was fairly average tasting, the first bite had an odd taste but the rest thankfully was edible. The fries were a bit of a letdown. They needed to be cooked longer to get crispier, in my opinion. Wouldn’t return as there are better options for a good chicken sandwich.

I was hoping for something better for the price I paid for what I received. I suppose it's because it's under the Comcast Center and they anticipate that businesspeople would come and buy the food with the inflated prices for lunch. The case of Supply and demand. The fries and had a distinct shape and the chicken was just okay. They're called "Big Chicken", however, the chicken just eh, nothing too special.

Chicken had basically no taste and the sauce did not save it at all. The fries were alright. Tons of pickles which was cool but not what makes a chicken sandwich. Adding a soda brought the price above $18 and that price point put this meal at 2 stars.

Overpriced Slop, legitimately $10 just for a box of chicken and nothing else, the drinks bottles were $4 when I could go right outside to Wawa get two drinks bottles for the same price. Food wasn’t all that, most of the chicken didn’t have chicken, it was just bread, $10 let me remind you for only this, this is the definition of overpriced fast food, don’t eat here unless if you are one of the rich comcast employees or something. Not for a quick bite for college students.

For the price and quality it’s not worth it. I spent $18 on a chicken sandwich, fries, and a drink. I wouldn’t even call them fries. They’re so skinny and hardly any potato to it. It’s almost a chip! 😂 Won’t be spending my hard earned money here. The staff was good though.

O!M!G! I got the Uncle Jerome sandwich and fries!! 2 huge slices of tender, juicy fried chicken breast with spicy seasoning!! It was So good! And lots of fries!! This is what a spicy fried chicken sandwich is supposed to be!! And the young girl at the register was so sweet!! Going back again and again!

I tried the Big Chicken spicy chicken sandwich from here. It was delicious and just spicy enough. It was perfectly crispy and it filled me up. I would definitely go back here. Great value and great service as well.

Yelp
The Concourse is the busiest I've seen it in the last few years, and a spate of new businesses, including Big Chicken, have really expanded the options for lunch. After some of my coworkers came back with pretty delicious-looking chicken sandwiches (and very funny photos with a huge cardboard cutout of Shaq), I finally made my way down and opted for the popcorn chicken (Shaq's favorite!) and a shake. With tax and tip, I ended up paying $16.78. I also ended up waiting for 40 minutes for my two items, which left me feeling...not thrilled. That being said, I thought that the Big Chicken team was very well-trained and moved efficiently - they simply were overwhelmed by opening week hype and a ton of online orders. I was impressed that no orders were lost in the 40 minutes I spent down there, and there seemed to be a method to the madness: people generally received their food in the sequence that they had ordered, unless they ordered a grilled item (those seemed to take a lot longer). The staff made clear to me that the popcorn chicken was done with dark meat, which I personally enjoyed. The chicken came with only one sauce option: the Shaq sauce. I liked the sauce, but wouldn't mind seeing some more options for other sauces. Overall, the flavors were good, with a pleasant amount of spice, and the shake was super decadent - exactly what I wanted. I probably won't come to Big Chicken all the time - I don't have 40 minutes to wait for lunch every day, and just about everything, even the salads, has a deep-fried component! But on (particularly stressful) occasions, it is nice to have the option to order a well-executed ice cream shake and some very crispy, tasty chicken items.

Yelp
Ehh. A+ on the crispiness, but I don't think I'm a big fan of dark meat popcorn chicken. I didn't particularly like the chewiness nor the grease. I'd be willing to try the regular chicken sandwich. Service was pretty quick.

Yelp
Yet another contender to the fried chicken sandwich revolution in Philadelphia! Located in in the Comcast center, it's the perfect addition to the market place in this building. I ordered the Uncle Jerome sandwich with cheese which is a Nashville hot chicken sandwich. It's just the perfect amount of spice to it, I did miss having the sauce in the sandwich and the fries were perfect. Not as thick as the steak fries and not super thin. Just perfect. Service was quick and friendly and the area behind looked clean and well kept. I will definitely be back for more.

Yelp
Shaq has opened Big Chicken in Philly, and I was excited to try it. I ordered the grilled chicken club instead of the more popular fried chicken sandwich. When I tasted it I was very happy with my order. That sandwich didn't look like much, but it was delicious. The avocado spread on it works. I added fries, and they were thin cut and tasted fresh. The fries are a winner too. I'll definitely be back to try more sandwich items on the menu.

Yelp
The Popcorn chicken was delicious and crispy. The Cookies & Cream milkshake was a bit too thick for my liking but it was still good nonetheless. The cashier was a very nice lady who was very polite and friendly towards me. I would go again.

Yelp
I got the MDE because they were out of pretty much everything else. It wasn't cooked all the way through which unfortunately I didn't notice until I got back to my office. The sauce was not good. The fries were uncooked as well. An expensive lunch that was inedible. Go to Hatch and Coop.

Yelp
I have seen long lines here at lunch since it opened about a week ago. I guess everyone wants to try the new thing. That along with Shaq life size stand up boards and playing on large TV screens and a autographed basketball giveaway. The counter help was friendly and very kind, her name started with an M. The other counter person another female stole and ate one of my fries out of my bag. The kitchen staff was nice too very respectful. The food, well the bun tastes like a McDonald's bun and there is a lot going on on the sandwich. A dipping sauce was served on the side, I don't know what it was but I didn't like it. The fries are steak fries but thin sliced, they were good, a little soggy but fresh and or ordered well done would be great so I know why she stole one. It took a while to make the sandwich so fresh made but a bit too long for a workplace lunch break spot. Now that I tried it I don't see myself coming back. Stick to basketball Shaq. Good luck with this venture.
