"Big Daddy’s Old Fashioned Barbecue will close its current location on University Avenue after March of 2020. The future is uncertain, though there is hope for a new location. The current site will be redeveloped for affordable housing, commercial, and office space. Although invited to open in the new construction, the owner worries about a prolonged closure. The Neighborhood Development Center is assisting. Founded by Ron Whyte, Bob Edmond, and Gene Sampson, the business evolved from a parking lot event to a sit-down restaurant and back, before settling at the current location. In 2017, the founders sold it to lead cook Manuel Tacuri, who continues the traditional recipes." - Joy Summers
