Big Daddy’s Barbecue in St. Paul Will Close in March 2020 - Eater Twin Cities

"Big Daddy’s Old Fashioned Barbecue will close its current location on University Avenue after March of 2020. The future is uncertain, though there is hope for a new location. The current site will be redeveloped for affordable housing, commercial, and office space. Although invited to open in the new construction, the owner worries about a prolonged closure. The Neighborhood Development Center is assisting. Founded by Ron Whyte, Bob Edmond, and Gene Sampson, the business evolved from a parking lot event to a sit-down restaurant and back, before settling at the current location. In 2017, the founders sold it to lead cook Manuel Tacuri, who continues the traditional recipes." - Joy Summers

Came in tonight and ordered 1/4 chicken and rib tips combo with mac and cheese, collard greens, cole slaw, and beans. The staff was really friendly. We got a sandwich instead of the rib tips which I think was the brisket sandwich and it was still really great but just was hoping to try the rib tips. The beans are fantastic! The other sides were pretty standard. I'll be back to try more, but I will dine in so I dont get all the way home before I realize we got the wrong thing!

Great rib tips. We split a shipload and i had mine straight up without sauce. I will definately go here again. This place doesn't have a lot of curb appeal ( Kat least in the winter). But its clean inside and comfortable. The staff is friendly and there wasn't much of a wait for our ribs.

My guess the place is more for takeout than dining, but it was okay. Ribs and rib tops were good. The fries were a little under-fire, but okay.

My daughter and I traveled an hour to try their bbq...the pork ribs spot on in flavor and moisture...the 1/2 chicken also moist and delicious...the beef ribs were brisketeske..the slaw good but needed to be a little thicker with the gravy and maybe add some horseradish..the Mac and Cheese needed flavor...the pulled pork....very disappointed...already sauced for moisture...use the drippings 1st...all and all a good place to visit...

They have very tasty beef ribs here. My gal and I ordered a full track and i ate about 3/4ths of them. I had a sore stomach from over eating, but I could not stop myself.... They are that good.

Decent prices, and good food. My ribs were cooked to perfection. Could have used a little bit more seasoning, and the sauces made up for that. Sides were solid. I had the Mac & Cheese, collard greens, and potato salad. All very good. Also had the french fries. They were adequate, but nothing to right home about. My wife ordered the pulled pork. This one item alone is the reason this place didn't pick up that 4th star. It looked like day old cat food, and was poorly seasoned. It tasted "okay" at best, but compared to everything else, it was a let down. Other then that, we enjoyed it and would go back again if in the area.
