Where to Eat and Drink Near Great Smoky Mountains National Park | Eater

"Despite the campy decor and stereotypical Italian photos that make the place look like an Epcot version of a Neapolitan pizzeria, Big Daddy’s is the real deal. With three locations on the western side of the Great Smoky Mountains, including this Gatlinburg branch that’s mere minutes from the park, this is a pizzeria that feels touristy but exceeds expectations. Wood-fired brick oven pies are stretched thin and cooked quickly to achieve a delicately crispy thin crust before they’re strewn with toppings like meatballs, Genoa salami, sweet barbecue sauce, and shaved prime rib. You can’t go wrong with a classic margherita either, or the fantastic appetizers, like wood-fired wings and wood-baked soft pretzels with fonduelike cheese sauce." - Matt Kirouac

Stopped in for a beer and pizza after a super long day of walking. Big Daddy's did not disappoint. Had a cold beer, cheese garlic bread and pepperoni pizza. Ordered at the counter and found a seat. Drinks were brought out right b away and they were not super busy. Garlic bread came out first and we realized we should have ordered a small pizza instead of the larger one. No worries both garlic bread and pizza were almost as good the next day. Both were delicious. We prefer this location over Pigeon Forge, smaller and not as noisy.

Google
Very good pizza and garlic bread. Service was good. Restaurant was quiet. Seems like hidden gem. Just a blocks walk off the strip. Best priced meal we had the whole visit. Definitely recommend this place.

Google
We chose this restaurant solely because it offered vegan cheese. For the first time ever my lactose intolerant daughter was able to order pizza at a restaurant! Thank you for offering vegan cheese and at no extra cost. This meant so much to her and us! The bread sticks & pizza were served hot & all was delicious! The staff was friendly as well. Thank you! This was some of the best pizza I’ve eaten in my lifetime. I’ve been to Gatlinburg five times now and cannot believe I’ve never eaten here before. I give their pizza a 10/10!

Google
Came from northern Kentucky. Looked pretty good in the pictures. Tasted even better than the pictures looked. Sticky wings were amazing as well. Everyone was very nice and super helpful with what we should order. Highly recommend!

Google
So the food was okay… the salad was cheap and made with crap ingredients for $8. The kids pizza was made different than the other pizza, not cooked all the way, cheese wasn’t Melted underneath, and the end was burnt. The beer was flat, saw true serve one time when he took our order…wish I had gone to mellow mushroom.

Google
We ordered a variety of things…specialty pizzas, cheese pizza, Caesar salad, and a couple of appetizers. Everything was delicious and the service was speedy. The guy at the counter (Jamie?) was extremely friendly and personable. We liked the place so much that we even bought a couple of their shirts for souvenirs!! Highly recommend!

Google
Great spot for pizza after a day in the Smokies! The crust is fire — a delicious neapolitan pizza with a soft slightly chewy crust baked perfectly in their wood fired ovens. We had a cheese and pepperoni - voted on my the kids, and it did not disappoint, evidenced by the amount of times we returned while we were there. The place has a fun, laid-back vibe and service was quick, even when it was busy. Very friendly staff! Easy 5 stars. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in town!

Visiting from Texas and saw this place. It was great the pizza was baked just right...I definitely recommend.

Yelp
The pizza crust was the only part that tasted just ok. I would find another place to have pizza Wife was still hungry tried the bbq place adjacent but the otitis soup was to go, but no good either. Sad we went there Not our flavored food

Yelp
Service was good, friendly. It's counter serve, so there isn't a ton in the way of "service" though. Perfectly fine by me, because it's quicker and they can accommodate more people this way. The pizza is very good. Everything was tasty from the crust to the sauce to the toppings. I can't say it's the best pizza I've ever had, but it's up there. I might say that they go a little light on the toppings though. E.g., my wife asked for goat cheese on hers, but it was honestly hard to tell if there was any there. The one odd thing i found is that if you order a Build-Your-Own, you're going to end up paying a lot more, even if the toppings you add are the exact same ones on one of their classics. E.g., A 10" Mamma Mia is $19.00. But if you "build your own" with the same toppings, you'll pay $11 + $2.50 + $2.50 + $2.50 + $2.50 + $1.50 + $1.50 + $1.50 + $1.50, for a total of $27.00.

Yelp
Surprisingly good ‍ Manager stops at every table which is nice....... Gives diner vibes, aesthetically.

Yelp
I love pizza and it's hard to "do it wrong" but Big Daddy's is rough. Our salads were wilted lettuce turning pink and had barely any toppings. Pizza is ridiculously small for $20+ and the meats were thrown on sporadically, some slices were mostly crust or sauce while some had toppings sliding off the wet crust. If this place was dirt cheap I might recommend it for a post-bar bite to eat, but the prices definitely don't match the quality.

Yelp
If you're a pizza snob, don't do this..run! Pizza was terrible! I was bamboozled by the ratings.

Yelp
While taking a much needed vacation in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, my husband and I were searching for a place to have lunch. We noticed good reviews from Yelpers about Big Daddy's Pizzeria, so we decided to go. The restaurant was within walking distance from our hotel and across the street from Ober Gatlinburg park, and let me tell you - it was well worth it. This is a two-sided restaurant, with a barbecue place on the left, and the pizza place on the right. We walked in and were greeted by the nicest young lady. She asked how many we had and we told her it was just us. She seated us at a booth by the window, gave us menus, and took our drink orders. It was very nice in the restaurant, with lots of bright and happy colors, plus posters on every wall. The back area was an open kitchen with a guy handling all the cooking. Our server, Destanie, came back and took our order. We had plans to do some things and did not want a lot of food. We ordered the 10 inch Carnivore pizza and two side Caesar salads. Our salads came out in less than three minutes. The salad was good - nice and basic, with a garlic breadstick. The pizza was at our table soon after, and that was very tasty! The crust was not too thick and not too thin, and the flavor of the pizza was AMAZING. I have no doubt they use fresh ingredients at Big Daddy's Pizzeria. We also had a piece of cheesecake, but I forgot to snap a picture of that slice of deliciousness. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and when we come back for another Gatlinburg vacation, we will stop by again. Definitely recommended!!

Yelp
Great food, friendly staff. Great atmosphere. Loved it! We drove by and seen back oven pizza and had to stop!

Yelp
Food was great, kids had a great time at the arcade. Service was great! Not too long of a wait but it was a popular place so try to go early!

Yelp
We came here for lunch today. I was craving pizza. Big Daddy's did not disappoint. I got my pizza fix with the carnivore. Pizza was excellent! The surprise was the wings. Some of the best wings I've had. They give you a pound of small but perfectly cooked & seasoned wings. I got the house dressing, ranch & blue cheese for the wings. So good. Service was very good. I believe her name was Shaylee. We did not wait long at all for anything. Highly recommend the pizza & wings here.

Angela L.

Yelp
Ordered take out after an exhausting day of tourist activities. Staff was super friendly. Pizzas were still hot when we got back to,our hotel! It's one of MANY restaurants on the strip but we wanted pizza. So glad we chose big daddy's!
google avatar

Yelp
This is a must if you are looking for a reasonably priced and quick meal in Gatlinburg.

Yelp
Fresh ingredients, delicious cheese and the only place we have found nonalcoholic beer! Our waitress was great!

Tim V.

Yelp
We ordered a large take out order for our family. The person on the phone was ver difficult to communicate with and didn't know the menu. When we got the pizza it was not great and the wings were small with not much meat. Overall not a good experience. Don't know what the other options are but I would try them first.

Yelp
The cheapest meal we had while visiting Gatlinburg, and it was yummy! Gypsy circus cider $6 (12oz can) - boyfriend liked it. 10" pizza $15 - got half bee sting & half chicken bacon ranch. Shared between the 2 of us, and we still took 2 slices to-go. Both were good, but we preferred the bee sting. The slight sweetness was so good! The pizzas don't have a whole lot of marinara sauce (which is fine with me), but they do have plenty of CHEESE! (Very good) BEE STING - Marinara sauce, sprinkled with red pepper flakes, diced salami, and topped with mozzarella-provolone blend. Cooked to perfection & topped with brown sugar. CHICKEN BACON RANCH - Olive oil, garlic, mozzarella-provolone blend, chicken and bacon. Drizzled with ranch and buffalo wing sauce.

Yelp
The Gatlinburg location had a 20 minute wait for a table because of staffing shortages so we decided to order and carry-out. We ordered a 14in. Herbivore pizza. We waited less than 15 minutes for our order. The hostess brought us plenty of napkins, hot pepper flakes, and parmesan cheese with the pizza. The brick oven pizza was moderately priced, about $25, and was delicious. Great pizza- would recommend! Grab a six pack from the grocery store or gas station or spirits from one of the downtown stores and enjoy a cheap, tasty dinner.

Yelp
Excellent service by Jennifer! We had a house sale with the Gorgonzola dressing that was delicious! Then the Mama Mia pizza! It was one of the best pizzas we've ever had! Top it off with an ice cold ipa draft and it was a 5 star plus experience! Want to try the wings next!

Linda G.

Yelp
Really loved eating here! Delicious Naples style pizza, terrific service w/much "southern hospitality" & very cute atmosphere! Would definitely come here again & wish they had a branch in LA!
google avatar

Kaelin C.

Yelp
We tried to call ahead over the span of an hour to order as we were coming into town, and no one ever answered. Then when we show up, there are about four people at counters by the phone... so there seems to be no reason why they wouldn't pick up the phone to take an order. The food was OK... the daddy dough balls were dry I'm not really sure I get the hype. The location was a busy part of town and it was very hard to get out when leaving. As soon as we walked in it smelled like old cleaner.
google avatar

Missie T.

Yelp
Update. We ate this time for table service and utilized the online checkin. Our server was polite and kind. She forgot my salad but everything else was spot on and fairly quick. Table favorite was the chicken bacon ranch. The taco pizza was so so. The he wing it was good but I could have used a little more buffalo and maybe some ranch. I liked the chicken florentine but the rest of my table doesn't like spinach on their pizza
google avatar

Yelp
Wow! My wife and I are well traveled pizza aficionados with a thick pizza portfolio, so we recognize immediately when we tie into a fantastic pie. Ok, let me backup and give you the layout. Patrons place their order essentially at the front door after entering the restaurant. Then it's self seating at one of the many tables or booths. Service was quick, but the crowd was modest being the week after spring break. The pizza arrived piping hot with 8 big slices to the large. Well, we served up our slices. From the very first bite, that pie had our attention! Normally we both eat 2 slices of pizza and enjoy the leftovers. Not this time. We totally destroyed that thang, and afterwards sat there staring at the desolation that a few minutes before was our dinner. Incredibly fresh sauce, well spiced Italian sausage, stringy mozzarella, and a crust perfectly crisp without being too thin. This is the place where appetites go to die. We thought maybe this was a fluke experience. So we went back 2 days later and did it again, with an additional dozen chicken wings. No joke! Stay away from this place if you recently had your stomach stapled.

Richard S.

Yelp
This was probably our 20th time eating at big daddy's Gatlinburg, it's the one place that we always must go to when in town. Tonight was not a disappointment! They've changed their format a little, you now order at the counter and they bring your food to you, but that doesn't change the fact that their pizza is some of the best you'll get anywhere! Service was great and friendly, and our pizza was perfect as usual! We might even go there again tomorrow!

Tia C.

Yelp
My husband and I wanted pizza so I seen this place so we walked right in and was greeted as soon as we opened the door. They are very friendly and the food was great we both got a pizza I decided on the bqq 4 U and he created his own. I would recommend this pizza place to anyone and we will be back the next time we are here. They are very clean
google avatar

David P.

Yelp
Service and food were top notch. We had pizza and wings. Wings are smoked so it's an acquired taste. However the sauce options were amazing. Pizza was super fresh, toppings were plentiful and the crust was super.
google avatar

Chaim M.

Yelp
Golly, this place was empty when we got there, but man it shoulda been packed out the door. The group was split between 4 and 5 stars, you will get great pizza either way. The name alone makes you wonder what you're about to jump into. We didn't find Big Daddy, but Big Daddy saw my pizza needs and whew he delivered. So good it almost slid off my plate onto the floor, but the sauce on my pants was worth it. Great view of the smokies out the window, and boy my pizza was smokin delicious. Check it out next time you're in good ole Gatlinburg.
google avatar

Kevin B.

Yelp
So bad. Multiple pies. Not good. Goto Food City and get frozen pie. 100x better quality.

Edward R.

Yelp
Great food! We had the Porky pie and Great white they were both excellent. Outside seating with umbrellas was noce on a sunny day.
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
No cap, this place is fire. Best cheese pizza (i know...you think I'm kidding now) I've had. The parmesean cheese mix slaps! The pretzel app with cheese were great as well. Also ordered the margarita pizza, not bad, have had better, but the cheese pizza is where it's at!
google avatar

Aaron L.

Yelp
This place has amazing Pretzel bites and the service was nice with all of the staff being kind to us during our time eating there plus they play movies on the Tv screens and I personally do recommend you go here during your trip to Gatlinburg (Warning! You HAVE to buy food here you can't just get a drink!)
google avatar

Tonita N.

Yelp
OMG. Brick fire pizza. Wow. I got a basic cheese pizza with 2 added toppings. Hot and good. Haley the waitress love her. Staff was nice and friendly. Looks like a pizza restauran. Love the atmosphere. Found Big Daddy's pizza while on our way to Ober. There really is not much more to say. Highly recommended. Pricing $10 - $20.

Yelp
Visited on 1/13/24 and Megan was our server. She was nice and kept our drinks refilled. The food was good and the establishment was clean. It is right next to the BBQ spot, they share the same facility but on opposite sides of the building. Overall, good place.
google avatar

Joy A.

Yelp
So first thing, this is TN not NY so expectations were low. The service was great, the manager even popped out to answer a question for me. We ordered the meatball appetizer it was mediocre and needed more seasoning. Then we opted for a 10 inch with salami and ricotta. The salami was more like a fried bologna not a true Italian salami. The sauce was adequate but the cheese was a blend - true pizza is topped with mozzarella and only mozzarella. It was just okay for these pizza snobs.
google avatar

Ryan T.

Yelp
Service was good and timely. Wasn't crowded, but there was a wait for the adjoining bbq restaurant. The pizza was fine but if u are from a good pizza place, then don't have hopes too high. The Google rating at 4.5 is too high. Plain inside but it works and is of main Gatlinburg strip which is a positive

Emily S.

Yelp
Food was terrific but management and front house was the best ever encountered when traveling with a large group. Will always be a must to visit when in town.
google avatar

Claudine R.

Yelp
We're looking for a good pizza in the area and big daddy's was not bad for Tennessee pizza. Now, coming from the east coast where we have the best pizza in CT and NY, this hit the spot. Perfectly cooked crust and just enough toppings. We got the Mama Mia and Pepperoni with red onions and mushrooms. Tried the cheesy bread and also also spinach and artichoke dip. It was satisfying. 3 stars for pizza and 5 stars for the appetizers. This was a take out order and service was quick!

Cameron C.

Yelp
Great pizza in my opinion, we enjoyed a classic pepperoni pizza. The crust was great and the toppings were good. The dough balls went well with the garlic butter sauce. I was pleasantly surprised with the food based on the atmosphere of the restaurant. The service was excellent
google avatar

Yelp
In a town full of consumerist attractions, Big Daddy's Pizzeria stands out as one of the best restaurants in Gatlinburg. Upon walking in the establishment, you are met with a decision for barbecue or pizza. So of course you choose pizza and are greeted and seated by the kind staff. Firstly, the wait and service was phenomenal, especially given the saturated tourist market during spring break. Moreover, the dining room was surprisingly modest in occupation. Our waitress was kind and refilled our drinks when they were empty. It ultimately made the experience more comfortable and enjoyable. Now to the juicy part... the food. Pizza Daddy cooks their pizzas in brick ovens, and the taste is clearly represented by that. The Dough Daddy (bread bites) were an exceptional appetizer for the meal. The overall taste and quality of the meal was a testament to culinary excellence. In essence, the experience and taste of Big Daddy's pizzeria is a must if you're touring in the vicinity of Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge.

Ian C.

Yelp
la pizza y las alitas son deliciosas, cuando llegue al restaurante y fui al baño, estaba una mesera con su mandil en el piso del baño, eso es asqueroso y antihigiénico deberían tomas unas clases se seguridad de la comida.

Rachel R.

Yelp
Service was okay, food was good. We got a pound of wings, which were delicious and slid off the bone, but super tiny so it was about 16 wings. We also got the 10 inch pepperoni pizza which was yummy.
google avatar

Sharon H.

Yelp
Great pizza! Thin crust with nice amount of toppings. Server was not the friendliest but was fast and efficient.
google avatar

Stephanie F.

Yelp
This was a super fun pizza place. The Pizza was so good. Wish I would have taken a photo of it before eating it. You can get half and half of the specialty pizzas. We got the great white and the chicken bacon ranch. Very good. I did try the bruschetta, but it was kinda too sweet with the balsamic vinegarette. The caramel pretzel cannoli was very good.
google avatar

Phillip M.

Yelp
This was our first visit to this location. The kids needed their pizza fix, so here we were. The staff seemed attentive, but our waitress was not in her best mood or very attentive. When I have to ask multiple times for a refill as she passes us numerous times, that's an issue. Her only truly attentive moment was when she brought the check. Other than that, she appeared to want to be somewhere else. The food was above CiCi's but could have had more flavor for the price!
google avatar

Kristen R.

Yelp
If you are looking for fast, but tasty pizza, this is the place! We decided after spending the entire day at Ober Mountain, that we needed real food and Bug Daddy's was across the street. We were seated immediately, ordered our antipasto salad and pizza and witching 5 mins we had the salad (which was enough for my daughter and I to share) and witching another 5 mins we had pizza! We ordered the carnivore with Italian sausage on 1 side (our daughter doesn't like it), and it was hot, and so very tasty! The restaurant shares a building with their sister restaurant that is a BBQ Place, so you have dueling smells, but very yummy tasting for sure. Our waitress Pam was very attentive, made sure we had everything we needed and within 20 minutes we were heading out the door! It was great for having had such a long day already! We will for sure go back!
google avatar

Yelp
The best dining experience of our trip, so much so that we ate here twice in one week! Wood fired pizza!! We decided to give it a try after the tram operator on the Ober tram mentioned that they had great wood fire pizza. We popped in during the week and were seated immediately. *Fun tip, they have a neon sign out front that they will light up if immediate seating is available. We decided to start with an order of the sticky sweet and spicy wings ($13). We almost didn't because the order is "a pound of wings" and that just sounds like way too much. I assure you it is not. Individually they are rather small but they were charred and sticky and heavenly. My husband is still talking about them a week later. The pizza was incredible. Pizzas are available as 10 inch or 14 inches. We went with the 10 inch pepperoni ($12) since we just shoveled in a pound of wings. Everything about this was perfection. The dough was toothsome, and bubbly and the mozzarella offered a great cheese pull. The toppings were simple and just enough. We enjoyed it so much that we returned later in our trip, skipped the wings and each got our own pizza! This is definitely the newest addition to our "must visit when we're here" list.
google avatar

Ashley C.

Yelp
Service was fine. It was clean in a 1990s vibe way. Spinach dip was HORRIBLE bread knits were over cooked but I liked the crunch it added to the bread. We got the chicken bacon ranch which had good flavor. The best was the Philly pizza! Sadly we didn't try a red sauce pizza
google avatar

Heather B.

Yelp
The best pizza in Gatlinburg! Plus add great service!! I had the just pepperoni pizza, and it was spot on, only thing I didn't love was the bruschetta, it's not the standard I'm used to, but that's ME! It wasn't bad! You can tell they focus on customer service, which many in a tourist town don't have to lean on!

Stacey B.

Yelp
Great wood fire pizza. Family atmosphere. Great service by our waitress. Reasonable price for Gatlinburg

Alexander R.

Yelp
Impressive! While picking up my order I asked if there was dairy in the crust since we had a friend's daughter with a dairy allergy and figured she could at least eat the crust. Jamie the manager caught on to what I was asking and offered to quickly make a dairy free cheese pizza at no cost just so she could join in. How amazing is that?! I was touched by how kind they were to do that. Thank you for a great experience!

Jamie L.

Yelp
The pizza was just average and the service we found lacking. The girl that took our order was rude and snippy.
