Breakfast and Lunch Chain Flying Biscuit Is Opening Castleberry Hill, Atlanta - Eater Atlanta

"A second location of Woodstock-based shaved ice shop Big Easy Sno-Balls is now open in Midtown on Monroe Drive near Boulevard, according to What Now Atlanta. The shop resides in the same retail strip as virtual reality bar Revery: VR Bar. Big Easy serves over 75 flavors of shaved ice; a popular summer treat found throughout New Orleans. The Woodstock location is open from March through October. It’s likely the Midtown shop will follow suit. [WNA]" - Beth McKibben

Google
Love the fact these folks use a kiosk for ease of ordering. My London Pound Cake Surprise was out within minutes of payment and uniquely flavorful and excellently made. However, I'm pretty sure someone urinated around the only table out front because shortly after I sat down to enjoy my SnowBall I smelled the order very strongly.

A Disappointing and Rude Experience We stopped by this snowball shop during a family trip, and the experience was honestly awful. We ordered eight snowballs — a decent-sized order — and the man working there was rude from the start. When we asked for extra napkins (which is pretty reasonable for a group), he only gave us a small handful and acted like we were asking for too much. Customer service was seriously lacking. No friendliness, no appreciation for our business — just a bad attitude all around. I’m originally from New Orleans, and let me tell you: a snowball isn’t just about the ice and syrup. It’s about the experience, the hospitality, and the vibe. This place completely missed the mark. We gave this place a little bit of our vacation time, and we really shouldn’t have. If you're looking for a good snowball and even halfway decent service, skip this place. It’s not worth it.

Where do I even start…I love supporting small businesses but this spot isn’t worth the time, money or effort. This spot has had its time…they literally closed off majority of the space and have opted for a little iPad or QR code to order from. There isn’t any AC in the lobby and people are crowded around waiting. This is ATLANTA, GA it gets hot here. No way should you operate without a properly working AIR CONDITIONING UNIT. Having a snow cone business is genius but this one is just too poorly operated for my liking. I will never be back. Furthermore why would you put this ridiculous wall up? There’s literally a slither of space. How are people even supposed to hear their order if you stand outside. I ordered online and they never texted me when my order was ready. Had I not walked back inside I would not have known my order was ready. Don’t waste your $5+ dollars people. The syrups are watered down and don’t have much flavor anyway.

Rebecca Duren

Google
The tiny and unairconditioned (80+ degrees) lobby is not manned by anyone. You’re in there by yourself. You just make your order online or at the kiosk. I didn’t exactly feel welcomed. No ability to ask questions, or get clarity on how to order what you want. Then for 4 of the smallest size (all the same flavor), the wait is LONG. There was no one ahead of us that we could see. When they finally opened the drive thru door inside the lobby, the stench of a giant bong rip filled the lobby. My kids and I weren’t looking for a contact high today, thanks. To make matters worse, she only made one of the 4 sno-cones we had ordered. Not coming back.

FIRST OFF I DID NOT PURCHASE A SNOWBALL. My review is regarding my in-store experience. I’m a technologist and I completely get that businesses want to utilize their staff where it matters most and online/kiosk ordering allows for that. My concern is that there was no one available to ask questions to. There is one way glass so I’m not even sure there was anyone there. My suggestion would be to at least greet your customers and let them know that although we only take online kiosk orders we’re here to answer questions. It’s a very impersonable experience which is far from what you would expect based on the thought of getting snow balls a kids. Additionally reading the responses the concerns of many customers says everything. Very rude and unprofessional. No empathy just snarky and condescending. Businesses do not survive without customers.

Google
The very first time I purchased a snowball from here I was hooked because iykyk , ain’t nothing like a Nola style snowball! After going back multiple times I did not find consistency in the soft shaved ice. I’ve seen about 3/4 new faces in here and I’m assuming that they are not so good at shaving the ice like the owner and honestly I don’t like that because I don’t know when to purchase or not and hate taking the chance and continuing to get crunchy ice in a cup. I mean this has by far been the worst 😂🤦🏽‍♀️ I know things won’t always be perfect but consistency is key here and that has caused me to only be went to get a Sno-balls from here unless the owner is working.

Jeremy Hayes

Google
I would never recommend this place. It is not a personable experience. We can hear every inappropriate and unprofessional conversation the staff is saying behind this extremely thin and unnecessary wall in between customers and employees. The ice is consistently choppy and not smooth how a snowball should be. Just horrible. That’s after giving the business chance after chance to do right. I wished I would have reviewed sooner.

Deion Bannister

Google
I will consider giving it another chance however my ice tasted very unclean. Like as if someone used their hands to put it together. The flavors were kind of there. I was really craving a snow cone to be disappointed this experience

Yelp
You won't find a better shaved ice desert than Big Easy Snoballs... Great variety of flavors..

Yelp
The first snoball proper I had was in Baltimore. I'm not hard to please when it comes to frozen or icey treats so I quickly fell in love with snoballs. One thing though, crafting the perfect snoball takes a little risk. You may think you like blue raspberry, but then they start offering you stuff like ice cream, condensed milk, and whipped cream and add-ons. The texture and flavor hits different when you add the extras. Then there is Big Easy Snoballs - a New Orleans inspired joint. Back in the day, it used to be a food trailer that was stationed on Moreland and Ponce and eventually a storefront opened. Not too much different than what Baltimore presents for snoballs except you get a little bit of a brass band tune in your head while you're eating it. Big Easy has a gazillion flavors and combinations to try. I'm not an extra syrup/sweet kinda guy so I tend to request less syrup. My favorite flavor is blue-raspberry or black cherry BUT I don't wanna walk around with a blue or red mouth all day so I learned they have a clear blue-raspberry and clear cherry. Then I ramp it up a little with condensed milk. Better than ice cream damn near. As of mid 2024 the service at Big Easy has become almost 100% non-confrontational. They require customers to order from a website. There is essentially no greeting given, no salutation, they just eventually call out a name when the order is ready. Not sure why they moved to this format, but it's not the most inviting. Not really the motto of any food service product with a New Orleans moniker. Luckily, it hasn't affected the snoballs though. My stance is 3.3 stars in the current format of Big Easy.

Josette D.

Yelp
I really enjoy the snoballls but customer service is lacking. Which is probably why they changed it up where you can't even speak to anyone. It's just in and out. Also the waiting area was very hot like the ac was out.
google avatar

Yelp
I love this place. The sno-balls are exactly right they had the correct machine for this NEw Orleans delicacy. I rarely like too much syrup and when I asked them to be light with it, wow they hit it just right, which can be rare. Tons of flavors Cool thought out combos Non-Dairy Creamy Flavor Options Disliked ) Disliked ) Disliked ) Disliked ) Disliked ) Parking is a little tricky if all the spaces are full not many spaces available

Yelp
Very disappointed after frequenting this establishment often over the last few years and summers. Hours posted reflect closing at 9pm. We got there at 8:55pm while customers were still inside and being serviced but we were told they were closed by an older person (assuming the manager). Obviously some sort of bias is in place with this establishment considering we were the customers being excluded. I hate this business feels ok with doing that.

Yelp
Stopped in randomly to get a coo treat - the young lady was courteous, but very inattentive. She was on the phone, which resulted in her forgetting flavors we ordered.
google avatar

Omar K.

Yelp
Everything about this place is awesome! The shaved ice is delicious and the employees are always nice. I recommend for anyone who loves frozen treats. Wonderful experience!!!
google avatar

Yelp
These snowballs were good! The young ladies were nice as we set in the lobby to eat. The lobby was clean

Yelp
Sooo this is the snack I never knew I needed! If you like ice cream, slushees, sno-balls, water ice or icee's please just go and don't ask questions, unless it's "what flavors are the best?" I stopped by randomly with friends and thought this was going to be your regular-degular ice, sugar, and food coloring snoball so I wasn't pressed, but this was NOT THAT! I ordered the wedding cake, cake batter & condensed sweet milk and it was the perfect ending to a hot day! Every spoonful has flavor and this particular one tastes very similar to homemade churned vanilla ice cream. The shaved ice is smooth and the flavors are quality (not just sugar/ice) the flavor selection is great, they have so many to choose from and there's free parking! (If you know the city, you appreciate it) It is a small lot, but free. Say hey to Kelly & China if you stop by, their cool and give A+ customer service.
google avatar

Kayla C.

Yelp
My snoball was SO good. The parking lot is tiny tho so walk if you can or park nearby. The wait was long (about 45 min) but they were training a new employee. They have lots of flavors and fair prices. I will definitely be back.
google avatar

Naziya N.

Yelp
LOVE this place! I got the Pink Lady with ice cream in the center after craving a sno-ball/snowcone for weeks and it did not disappoint. Staff is friendly and they had tons of flavor options. Parking can be a bit of a hassle depending on the time of day but people are normally in and out so finding a spot doesn't typically take too long

Sam K.

Yelp
Waited 20 mins being the only customer in the store to get a watery açaí bowl. It was spilling out as soon as I opened the lid. I understand that the manager/owner was training the employees, but he refused to remake the order or give me a refund. He just kept saying "that's how it's made". Terrible service and would NOT recommend to anyone. Left the bowl at the store and walked out paying $8 for nothing

Kagen E.

Yelp
The snow cones here are incredible, really. And all of the hourly employees are great, but the manager/owner is just truly awful. The amount of times I've been in there and overheard him being condescending or just downright rude to his employees, well I say "the amount of times" but it's every time I've seen him in there honestly. This morning I saw him taking a leafblower to the litter in his parking lot, and blowing it into the street and the yards of his neighbors (picture provided). I would love to tell people to frequent this place, because I cannot stress enough how great the snow cones are, but it's very hard to justify supporting management like this.

Katherine S.

Yelp
Whatever you do don't ask the owner/operator a question about a flavor or a topping. He's snippy, passive aggressive, sarcastic and rude. I didn't come in here for years and just came back in today cuz I'd forgotten what a jerk this guy was. It's a snowball place, it should be a fun experience. NEVER AGAIN.
google avatar

James M.

Yelp
Not sure if this is the best run place. Generally their products are good but they are very slow. Like wait 30 minutes slow because the employees move like they're stuck in molasses. However they're the only place that serve sno balls in the midtown area so I guess they don't have to try.
google avatar

Lexus P.

Yelp
Sugar fix satisfied!! Mikayla was on snow cone duty and she was really sweet. As soon as we walked in, she greeted us. She told us how the menu worked and talked to us about the flavors. As a snowball lover I always go for the typical tigers blood or blue Hawaiian... BUT... They have a banana pudding snowball right now. It was to melt for (see what i did there). It was banana syrup with real banana pudding filling topped with whip cream. It was so good! The strawberry shortcake was also very good. Strawberry shortcake and banana pudding together would make for an amazing combo! The flavors and combinations are so interesting. This is a great spot to get you sno-ball fix.
google avatar

Kara T.

Yelp
I love a good snow cone place! They do it like in Hawaii with finely shaved ice. They have a ton of flavors, perhaps too many? I wish more of the flavors were natural. Nevertheless, I am so glad they exist and really hope they stick around. I am perpetually scared I'm going to drive by and see that they've closed. They even have a dill pickle flavor!!! They have lots of options for the dairy lovers too with ice cream and condensed milk. There's something for everyone. This is the hot summer day plan you need!
google avatar

Chrissie B.

Yelp
This place had a sign that said their system was down and they could only take Doordash or Grubhub orders. The problem - Doordash said they were closed (they weren't) and Grubhub would only do delivery. So we were turned away. Kinda scammy. I was so excited to see they had a storefront and drove almost 45 minutes only to be turned away Won't be returning.
google avatar

Terry G.

Yelp
This place was filthy. The floor was dirty, the bathroom was dirty. The atmosphere was dirty and definitely the workers attitudes were dirty. Forrest asked to sample the blackberry and was told they don't do samples. We ordered a Piccadilly. No chili salt, no sour salt or chamoy only pickles. And the pickles weren't even incorporated into the snow cone. Just piled on top. Do not waste your time or money here.
google avatar

Mariea W.

Yelp
Delicious snoballs! Interesting customer service. It just felt awkward because the welcoming was as if we caught them at a bad time. But otherwise, just be aware that there is a small parking lot and you may have to request extra syrup. I suggest you try it for yourself!
google avatar

Beverly E.

Yelp
When you're in Midtown, it's hot, and you're husband says "I feel like a snowball." So I take to Yelp and find him a snowball and luckily we were right around the corn from this spot. Scoreeeeeee! Nice, quaint storefront. Best of all, it just opened and there were no other customers. The server was friendly and let us know what our options were. I would definitely recommend if you are a sno-cone enthusiast.
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
This place is simply amazing. If you're seeking a nice and refreshing beverage, this is your place. Time and time again, I always stop here and enjoy a nice snowball. It'll be worth the drive, stop in and get your taste buds enhanced.

Yelp
We had just left the dog park after a hot day and was craving something cold. Found this place and noticed they have many flavors to choose from. They have a sign of no more than five people so they are practicing social distancing for sure. Not only did they have a sign, they would verbally enforce it. It was hard to choose with so many flavors. However, I love the fact that they have coconut and regular condensed milk. What I really love is that they double up on the condensed milk! They not only place it on top but in the middle. The medium cup was actually more than I expected and they give you a straw to ensure you don't miss a taste of all the deliciousness. I will be visiting this place again for sure!

Yelp
Today I simultaneously felt like a kid, back in my home town again, after visiting Big Easy for the first time since relocating to Atlanta, coming up on year seven. The weather outside was perfect for it, despite having to stand socially-distance-feet- apart, in 84 degree sunshine weather, wearing a mask! Once we were able to get our turn inside I was overwhelmed with options to select from. However, they have a diverse menu with a breakdown of pre-selected choices so I chose wisely--one of their creations that appealed to my taste buds. I must say it was one of the best sno-balls I've ever had! Admittedly, if I had any alcohol on hand it would have made this treat exponentially better! However, staying the way it was I would definitely choose this spot again and the creature of habit I can be when I like something, I would choose "Tropical Blast" again. The only con I personally have is that with two people inside having the job of taking orders and preparing the cups, they are a bit on the slower side. Where I'm from, the owner of the establishment works solo and has lines longer than this global pandemic is lasting, yet he still manages to make orders quickly. Mind you, I'm from Florida, the establishment is walk up style (no indoors save for the snow ball man working inside). The way heat is set up in Florida they know how to keep customers happier by not having them wait too long.

Yelp
After eating a huge ass meal at Atlanta's very own Twisted Soul, hubs turns over and looks at me while I'm pushing our 2018 Ford Fiesta rental. "You know what sounds so good right now?" "What?" I asked. "A sno cone." He pulls up the YELP app and gets to work. We end up at Big Easy Sno-Balls located in a slightly vacant and easily missed shopping center. It's around 3pm on a Saturday and its almost empty. Super clean space with a Nola edge. They have a TON of flavors--I'm talking at least 60! Alcoholic flavors, cake flavors, pie flavors, you name it! They even offer it stuffed--this surprise included ice cream in the middle which made this summer treat all the more decadent. "What flavor would you suggest out of the vanilla creme or the shortcake?" I asked the gentleman with glasses behind the counter. "Anything on the suggestions part of the menu is what I would suggest." He replied. "Right, but you don't have a favorite out of the two?" I asked again. "Both of them. He stated, serious as a heart attack. What a HUGE help he was.................. I went with the vanilla flavor in a size small and ya'll let me tell you.... that was THE BEST SNO CONE I HAVE EVER HAD! I mean that sno cone was BUTTAH! Just as soft and creamy .. like velvet or something. And the flavoring was perfect. Not overly sweet, or exceedingly syrupy. The ice cream in the middle certainly wasn't blue bell but not a bad quality ice cream. Clean bathroom and pricing seems to be pretty standard. Around $4 for the small. I'll definitely be back when I return to the Peach state--but I'll avoid asking that employee in particular for suggestions!

Yelp
The owner is a terrible person. He refused to help me with a question in front of my kids. I snapped on him because of embarrassment and he apologized. The staff is great. The only reason I come back is because I can't find anywhere. Every time I go in I hate it, but my kids love it. The ice is good, just had a bad experience with the owner. I really don't want to believe it was a race thing.
google avatar

Jewel P.

Yelp
I'm from Baltimore where all we eat in the summer is snow balls....these snowballs were not it The flavoring is watery and the marshmallow just has a bad taste. I also worked at a snowball stand in Baltimore for 3 years so my criticism could seem a little harsh, but my three (3) friends and I all did NOT enjoy nor did we finish our snowballs.

Brittnie S.

Yelp
I wish I could not put any stars!!! This place is very unprofessional. Me and my husband stood there for 10min and didn't get acknowledged by anyone. Two workers walked past us and didn't even acknowledge us. We didn't even get greated walking in! We literally just walked out. We will never return here!
google avatar

Blair G.

Yelp
We have been coming here regularly throughout the pandemic. The snoballs are pretty good and I like the value you get when you purchase the size small. It's definitely enough to fill you up! I'm unsettled by some of the interactions I see on this page which is why I deducted a star. It makes me question whether this is a business I want to patronize.
google avatar

Sage E.

Yelp
Only 3 stars because the employees are rude.. they don't greet you , don't say anything to you, just look at you. Other than than it's very good and a nice price! Will not return because employees made us feel uncomfortable!
google avatar

Christin B.

Yelp
Went here today for the first time. Had an ice that was not good at all and they remade it and charged me again. Won't be returning. Charles G get your facts straight before coming on here trying to defend this shit establishment. I have 3 witnesses that saw my boyfriend pay for both of our snowballs. We sat down at the table inside. He ate his and didn't really like it but ate it, however I didn't like mine at all. I got up and asked if I could get another one and the guy struggled to even fix it in the system to halfway charge it. I took one spoon of it and gave it back to them. Charles you're replying to the wrong review honestly because Idek wtf YOURE talking about so gtfoh CHARLES This shows what type of people are running this. This man is CLEARLY lying AND arguing with someone coming to spend money at your establishment. Will let everyone I know to NEVER come here.

Renatta B.

Yelp
If you want a NOLA snowball, stop by this spot. There are few places in Atlanta depending on where you live. The wait can be quite long for a simple cold treat, but there are staffing shortages everywhere. Don't expect to park in the front, but there is parking in the back of the building. The staff are really nice also. My daughter got rainbow with party sprinkles.
google avatar

Evelyn N.

Yelp
Stopped here on a gross humid day. I'm keto so I got the sugar free flavors and didn't love them, but it was still a great little treat!

Taz C.

Yelp
I drove here multiple times with the store saying open and come to find out they are closed when I get there. This is ridiculous
google avatar

Sileena M.

Yelp
I think was like 4.75 for this cup but it had a after taste . So I didn't like the mix I asked for so next time I'll go with the favors they already have mixed up next time . Nice staff so I'll be back

Dwight B.

Yelp
Atlanta, GA - Monroe Dr I been coming here for over two years now. Today I walk in, I guess the owner is having a bad day and he discouraged his employee to put enough juice in the icee and the iced is still all ice in the middle. I ask for more juice because the juice didn't even touch the middle. I know what its suppose to look like. I ask him and he say you have to pay extra. Okay I don't mind paying extra. Just acknowledge the fact that you messed up and own it. His behavior and manners got real aggressive and he turned his back on me, my niece, and nephew as if he didn't care while literally turning his back. What a waste of money going forward and I do not recommend anyone going here anymore. He treats his employees like they are below the earth and I've witnessed this over the years. Not a good place to support and represent The City of Atlanta. I am very disappointed and will be filing a complaint and having the City to look into this. No where does it state or it's posted that you have to pay an extra 75 cents to get your icee made correctly.

Trayonna H.

Yelp
The place is never open! It will say open on the site and google and end up closed. Never answers the phone.
google avatar

Dynin D.

Yelp
So I pulled up to Big Easy Snowballs. Parking was a little hard especially if you have a big car. Once I got out the car and enter the building. The store was very clean and covid friendly. I ordered a small coconut and strawberry, and the young lady suggested Tigers Blood. Previously had tigers blood, not enough coconut flavor. So I ask for both flavors separately to be poured in to ensure I can get a coconut taste. Make sure you ask for more juice(syrup) or you won't get any to add more flavor to the snowball. Overall it was good experience and snowballs. I recommend here if you live in old 4th ward. , ponce and piedmont.
google avatar

Lee T.

Yelp
Reasonably priced and soooo good. Tried out Busy's previously but for the same price you get twice as much and it tastes better. Inside seating to get out of the hot Atlanta weather, free parking and easily accessible. Will definitely come back while they're open this season.
google avatar

Lynx M.

Yelp
Great place check em out. Customer service 5 stars, came in a little after 9pm. Gentleman on duty was great
google avatar

Erika H.

Yelp
Sno-balls that reminded me of home! Great service. Kind and friendly! Sno balls are made right in front of you. The ice was fine and not too hard. I ordered the pina colada and peach and it was great! Not Too syrupy at all! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Kierra H.

Yelp
This place is great. There are plenty of flavors. The customer service is great. Everything was explained to me clearly. The place was very clean. They have a points system, and you get points every time you go. Will definitely be back.

Ciara D.

Yelp
So I am a long time customer of Big Easy. Love the snowballs! But today (Wednesday, June 30th Monroe Drive Location in Atlanta). I had a really disappointing experience. I left my house to try to catch the place before it closed. I pulled into the parking lot at 9:45 PM and was so excited the open sign was on (they close at 10 PM). As I got out of my car and walked up to the shop the staff, who was sitting and eating snowballs, turned the open sign off and turned me away with no explanation. Just a hand gesture signaling no. I understand being at the end of the shift and closing down, but if you have your Open sign on 15 minutes before close and see a customer get out of their car and walk up - the honorable thing to do is to take them and turn the welcome sign off after. I usually have great service there, so it was a real bummer to have that experience. Especially after being such a loyal customer. Not to mention I was really looking forward to that snowball!
google avatar

LaToya S.

Yelp
I've been here 3 time and each visit is better than the last. The snowballs are classic New Orleans but with a twist. I don't know what they're doing with their shaved ice but it's never overly icy or has huge chunks you throw away. The flavor selection is vast, I've yet to have a flavor I didn't love. The customer service is great, the young lady who's been there each time is friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. You have a repeat customer in me!
google avatar

G. A.

Yelp
So many flavors to choose from. Great way to cool off on hot days. The ice is smooth. Definitely will be going back!
google avatar

Stacey J.

Yelp
As a native New Orleanian there was not a thing I found Easy about Big Easy Snow-Balls. The reception was as cold as the ice used to make a snow-cone. My 7 year old nephew asked for a strawberry and raspberry snob-ball. He was so excited and asked the owner "wow how do you tell the difference since they both are red?" His response to an excited 7 year old customer......without looking up he replied very dryly "strawberry taste like strawberry and raspberry taste like raspberry." REALLY!! Don't bring that nasty attitude to the real "Big Easy!" I would not recommend and will NEVER patronize this business!!
google avatar

Sharda B.

Yelp
Me and my pregnant daughter wanted ice so bad and you know who really wanted the ice LOL .so we stoped by Big Easy Snowball. What we had got was New Orleans Red velvet with wedding cake and double condensed milk !!!!!!! The shop was very clean. The employees were very friendly and helpful both employees had their mask on. They have a small parking lot in front . They have tables and chairs outside to sit.
google avatar

Jasmine N.

Yelp
Sydney was very polite and she made sure she gave me enough flavor making it perfect!!
google avatar

Ari Kari J.

Yelp
The owner is beyond rude. I politely asked if they had a bike rack so my friend & I could lock our bikes up while we came in to order. He rudely responded for us to "just leave" our bikes outside unattended to come in and order. Clearly "just leaving" 2 ebikes on the corner of Ponce de Leon and Monroe in downtown Atlanta is beyond ignorant. I obviously decided to stay outside with the bikes while my friend went in to order but honestly the entire interaction left a bad taste in my mouth & I decided not to patron the business. My friend was so uncomfortable from her interaction with the owner she didn't even enjoy or finish her snow cone....waste of time and money.
