"Big Fish offers something different in Orange Beach, specifically some of the best sushi you can expect to find in the area. The rest of the seafood-heavy menu is also influenced by Japanese flavors, mixed in with unexpected options like meatloaf muffins. Overall, it’s an unassuming spot that packs a big punch, and is a good option when you’re tired of fried seafood (if that’s possible)." - Clair Lorell

Google
We visited Big Fish for sushi, based on suggestions from others. The place kind of seems like an old Chinese restaurant- the tables are wobbly and the place just needs some attention. Our server was actually pretty awful, pretty much non-existent outside of taking the orders. Started with the Beef Tatiki. It was pretty good. We ordered 5 rolls. The fish all seemed very very fresh. The wifey claims the spicy tuna roll may be her favorite in Baldwin County. I wasn’t as impressed. I did appreciate that the fish seemed super fresh, however, the other flavors were a bit lacking to me. Also not a huge fan that cucumber is in nearly every roll. It wasn’t bad at all- just not jaw-dropping good. I do think with a little love, this place could be a real gem. Check it out if you wanna. Or don’t. I don’t think you’re gonna miss out one way or the other.

Exceeded expectations! We are visiting from Houston which is known for many top-notch restaurants. We are spoiled and often disappointed when visiting other places and dining out. This place knocked us out! The fish dishes and sushi were fabulous. The one meatball dish was good, but not great. We were a party of 6 and the bread pudding with a scoop of ice cream that we shared topped off the meal perfectly. My wife told Chris (our server) that we will back before we head back to Houston.

This was the last dinner during our trip to Orange Beach before we head home the next day. The menu had so many great options that I wanted to try but I was in the mood for sushi 🍣. We were able to get in and get a table with no wait and the service staff were great at getting drinks out and answering questions about the menu (both for drinks and food). The food was awesome and I love when chefs take time on the presentation. To me, good food is elevated when it is plated with intention and I loved everything about this visit and look forward to coming back and trying more creations on the menu ☺️

Google
Very good sushi! Generous portions; flavorful, well-cut fish; fresh ingredients. We also enjoyed the Oreo bread pudding. Excellent meal! Our server was also pleasant and attentive. I would gladly eat at Big Fish again.

I went out with my husband for date night and omg! What an amazing restaurant! The food, drinks, atmosphere, and service! Just wow! We had a great time and we will definitely be back. We had the sautéed red snapper, chilli garlic sashimi, fire cracker shrimp, and a ceaser salad ! Austin was our bartender and he was so friendly and attentive. Dillion checked in on us periodically and was so nice! I am big on service and Big Fish is now at the top of my list of best restaurant experience!

Google
This place is an EXPERIENCE- superb from start to finish, especially with our excellent waitress Niyah. The service was very well paced and she recommended the best and that was what we sought for. From the Beef Tataki as our starter, to the Chef's Specialty dishes of Red Snapper and Swordfish as our proteins they were on top a mound of perfectly cooked cabbage and mashed red potatoes. To the drinks, Martinis and dessert cocktails that paired amazingly well with their to DIE for Homemade Honey cake; which is the best cake we have put in our mouths. We live 8 hours away but we will be back next year for sure!

Google
It was quite a surprise to walk in to a fabulous setting, not what you’d expect looking from the outside. The atmosphere was peaceful, the service was amazing and the food was incredible. We will definitely be back and I highly recommend. Even great for vegetarians :)

Google
Very busy restaurant . Waitress did an adequate job. We had a fresh catch option…fish had no taste, potatoes were semi warm and just a bit salty, cabbage and pineapple sauce was fair. We have enjoyed coming to Big Fish for years never having a bad meal. We did mention to our waitress and she said sorry. With the entree at $45.00 probably won’t be returning.

Yelp
Best place to get fish in Orange Beach. Don't be fooled by the strip mall looking outside of this place. It is very nice inside and offers the widest fish selection of any restaurant we go to in the area. This night we had halibut and Golden Tile done Big Fish style with jasmine rice spinach in Sherry Soy Ginger sauce. Yum! Wine selection is big and they have a nice bar with seating. Looking for a great date night place you've found it here.

Yelp
This was a standout on our trip! It is a hidden gem. The service/our waitress was amazing and very attentive! The menu offers great selection for everyone.. we loved the fresh sushi rolls!

Claire M.

Yelp
Our food was so delicious we went twice. The cowboy roll and awesome roll were a 10/10! The crab cakes and firecracker shrimp were our favorite. The only downfall was our waitress Slavina was so rude and couldn't bare to even crack a smile. Basically throwing the our checks on the table. I have never experienced such bad service in my life. The food was worth the bad service I must say.

Yelp
Food, service, ambiance...the whole experience was amazing. Highly recommend for anyone near Orange beach!

Yelp
After a vacation full of mediocre dining experiences I wanted, well really, needed Big Fish to be the cat's pajamas. The environment - They sat us in the booth line behind the bar, it was dark and difficult to see. I could hardly read the menu. The food - I ordered the Grouper prepared with dill and capers. It came thick and tough. The second I had to pick up my knife to cut through the fish, I knew I had to send it back. It was promptly replaced with the Red Snapper prepared "Big Fish Style" sauteed fish, topped with scallions & ginger, served with spinach & jasmine rice in a sherry soy broth. I'll admit it was a solid dish, but is it worth $48, no. My toddler had the chicken and fries, heavy on the fries lacking in chicken. Their servers and management are efficient and kind. I feel like I ordered wrong; sushi was likely the better choice.

Kathy G.

Yelp
Very nice place. Nice interior. Menu had many choices of fresh fish, sushi, steak and other specialties. Real menus not just a piece of paper. Cloth napkins. Service was very good. Food was very good.

Coleman O.

Yelp
Another awesome meal at Big Fish. We started with the fried Lobster Tail. Money!!! Ended our meal with the Golden Tile Special. Absolutely delicious. Kudos to Big Fish!

Sarah T.

Yelp
Love the atmosphere of this place and the food was fantastic. The sushi was some of the best I've ever had! The service was great too and we got our food super quickly for how busy the restaurant was.

Adam P.

Yelp
Food is great! Service is great! The ambiance is okay. The restaurant is in a strip mall. And there's no live music. You just show up eat and leave. The food quality and service far make up for a lack of ambiance!

Ed B.

Yelp
We had a family of 12 including 2 great grandsons and everything was delicious. Our waitress Elena did a very good job and my son said it was the first time that he witnessed his son-in-law finish everything on his plate. My wife who is very picky about items said it was the best meal she has had probably since I stopped working. She had the scallops and white chocolate bread pudding and even tried the appetizers and enjoyed them. I exchanged half of my fiery shrimp with his tuna as we could not decide which we wanted and both of us thought both were equally good. The only complaint that I heard was that the avocado overshadowed the lobster in the sushi roll, but the other sushi was excellent. We definitely will be back if ever we are back in Orange Beach and my wife picked up a card to give to our daughter whose friends are talking of coming here from Texas.

Jaime P.

Yelp
Service with Adele was amazing. Food was cooked to perfection. Vibe is classy but relaxing! Short review but the experience will speak for itself! AJ was so sweet and attentive checked on us to make sure experience was amazing!

David S.

Yelp
Great meal. We were seated immediately for dinner. The firecracker shrimp fried rice fish was wonderful.

Tyler B.

Yelp
The atmosphere is somewhat formal, but accommodates families. Sushi is by far the best in the area. Order your fish "big fish style" for Asian fusion type of meal. Great drink menu.

William C.

Yelp
This was my first time at Big Fish in Orange Beach, AL. This unassuming space nestled within a strip mall definitely met my expectations, as they were built up by family of mine. The highlight of the menu is the page of fresh fish that can be prepared grilled, blackened, or bronzed; however, you may also choose the Chef's special which is a fish of your choice, bronzed and topped with lump crab meat, and paired with sautéed vegetables and sticky rice with a soy sauce reduction sauce. The wine list was good, and service was excellent. Clean restaurant, clean bathrooms, and everyone was friendly. I highly recommend Big Fish if you are in the area and are in the mood for an elevated, seafood heavy menu in a business casual dining setting. Entrees run between $20-$50.

Josh A.

Yelp
Incredible fish selection. Prepared perfectly and paired with great service! This seems like where the locals go, opposite of a tourist attraction. No scenic views but your stomach will thank you!!

Rachael F.

Yelp
We had a really great meal. Appetizers, sushi, entree and even grilled cheese off the kids menu were all great. The service from Salavia was also great.

Matt V.

Yelp
Been here twice and had a great experience both times. The sushi alone is worth coming for. A food is a bit pricy but the quality is there. Great service as well. Big Fish is our "fancy dinner" option, meaning I actually wear a collared shirt with my flip flops. Enjoy!

Fran S.

Yelp
First few times the food and service were amazing, really like the 2-3 times per year we would come to Gulf Shores for last 5 or so years, it was our favorite and always good! But the last couple times we went, not so mu so we quit going... looking for our new fave!

David M.

Yelp
Unexpectedly a very nice place, good food and prices, would not expect the interior to look as nice as it does and in a strip mall.

Peggy H.

Yelp
I know most are traveling to the area so mediocre food is to be expected because you are leaving soon. But if you want good food and great cocktails/wine then this place will surprise you. Don't let appearances fool you since it is in a small strip mall. They have 3 people on staff waiting to take orders to make the best sushi in the area! Limited menus but what they make is NOT mediocre. But it comes with a price. If you want fried shrimp, fried oysters and French fries, then keep looking because you won't find it here.

John D.

Yelp
This place was outstanding from start to finish!! The staff was friendly and service was great. My waitress Alex excellent service and personable. The special fish menu catch of the day was one of the best fresh fish I have eaten. I had golden tile sauteed and my son had the special amberjack fish . We greatly enjoyed the Blue crab special and delicious fresh bread! I was completely satisfied and would highly recommend this place to everyone. On the way out got to meet the owner who was very warm and treated us like family, great experience , can't wait to bring my wife and daughter back to this place.

William M.

Yelp
Always good. Here is their Happy Hour menu that they keep hush-hush. Great way to start with an appetizer then order a meal off main menu.

Laura E.

Yelp
Most amazing fish. Wonderful wait staff and quaint atmosphere. The waitstaff was very knowledgeable and patient. 10 out of 10.

Brett P.

Yelp
Okay they win!! The best filet in Baldwin County! It was between Jesse's and here but after last night, probably the third time having the dish here, it just reinforced just how good it is. The service is always on point, atmosphere is nice, and priced right for a nice night out. My wife tried it as well and we both agreed, best filet each of us have ever had. Roth Chris and Morton's are a joke compared to Big Fish. Great job!!

Julie H.

Yelp
I don't think it's a secret that this strip mall restaurant is fine dining. Their chef's recipe fish dishes are outstanding, as is the hand rolled sushi. The service is excellent and the staff is top notch!

CJ J.

Yelp
Our 2nd visit but 1st visit was years ago. We liked it then but not thrilled this time. Food was OK but nothing memorable or creative -not flavors or choices that make the restaurant a destination. Spouse had filet. I had sesame crusted tuna. Both were cooked to our preferred doneness but steak was under seasoned, didn't have a lot of flavor. Tuna was large serving but plain tasting- needed sauce or drizzle of something. Our waitress was efficient but "disinterested" & needed better training on menu. We asked several questions about menu items & she couldn't answer them. Asked about a particular desert. She said "It's sweet". That was it. Spouse asked if a particular beer was an IPA. She didn't know what an IPA was. Prices were on the high side which we don't mind paying if the food & service justified them. It didn't & we won't go back.

Ashley C.

Yelp
Absolutely AMAZING!!!! Our party of 9 ate here this evening. I had the chef special and it was PHENOMENAL!!! My husband had the Fried Cracker Shrimp and it was equally delicious! My son tried the sushi menu and cleaned his plate! There is not a single item ordered tonight that wasn't enjoyed! We will definitely be back!

Jill M.

Yelp
We love The Big Fish. Good food, good service. We had an 1/2 hour wait when we arrived, so ordered a cocktail and sat outside in the courtyard. The courtyard needs a bit of fluffing, but served it's purpose. When our buzzer went off, we were seated and our waitress, Nova, promptly took our drink orders and brought out crackers - not just any crackers, but some everything flatbread with a sweet butter. We ordered the steak tataki to begin. The steak was thinly sliced with a delicious soy marinade, jalepenos and Asian coleslaw. Perfect dish to whet the appetite for what's to come. In the mood for sushi, we ordered a couple of rolls and the firecracker shrimp fried rice. The fish/seafood in the rolls was very fresh and the rice was soft and sticky. Delicious. The fried rice was wonderful. Topped the evening with espresso martinis. Great night out, good food, good service

Angie C.

Yelp
Dinner at Big Fish again a year later on our annual vacation. Was fantastic food and service!! Will be back next year!!

Debra B.

Yelp
We are locals and this place is always packed out during "tourist season." We went once the "season" was over and we are so glad we went. The food, wine selection and service were all top notch. We will definitely return and recommend to our friends and family

Matthew A.

Yelp
Outstanding food & service. Ambiance was great & scallops & grouper & shrimp with fried rice all great!! Definitely worth going back.

Joanna D.

Yelp
Firecracker shrimp was amazing. Crab cakes were great, too. Love the unique fusion foods.

Abigail S.

Yelp
The seafood was tasty but was served on a "boring" bed of rice, spinach accompanied it & was so bland-there was no seasoning not even butter on it. My guest had the shrimp skewers on a bed of boring white rice --nothing else accompanied the meal. Service was ok--had to ask questions about the menu etc. She seemed like she was in a hurry. There is no ambience--the restaurant is located in a strip mall. For what you get we found it so overpriced! This is not "upscale" dining!!!!

Chloe K.

Yelp
Best sushi I've had in the area! Got 4 rolls between the two of us. All were awesome. Also got the smoked tuna dip as an appetizer but ate it all before I could get a picture! They don't take reservations, but there is plenty of seating- we got seated quickly on a saturday evening. Definitley recommend!

Tony L.

Yelp
The food was good, however, the hostess was extremely rude and unprofessional. We had a party of 12 and was told it would be a 30 min wait. We knew it would take long due to our large group. The wait was 1.5 hrs. My sister in law stepped inside the large room where we were to be seated, with her infant due to the extreme heat. The hostess told her she couldn't be in the room while the busboys cleaned the tables. The hostess said we were annoying for wanting to wait inside. While we sat down for dinner the hostess pulled out a shade to block our view from the hostess stand. The shade was not utilized for the previous diners. The hostess made us feel extremely uncomfortable and ruined our dining experience.

Steve N.

Yelp
We enjoyed our dinner. It truly is seafood with an Asian flair. My wife had a spinach salad and a crab cake. The salad dressing was tasty and the crispy sesame croutons really went well with the spinach. She said the crab cake was very meaty - and would not share! I had the ahi tuna filet and it was perfectly prepared- seared on outside and cool middle. The edamame and roasted potato chunks were a great combination. And the tempura green beans were delicious. Great menu.

Sandy B.

Yelp
Always amazed at the unbelievably good food and service we get at this restaurant. Tonight we tried a ridiculously good white chocolate honey bread pudding. The outside of the restaurant doesn't look like much, inside is a totally different story. Great experience overall.

Shirley W.

Yelp
Happy we made the drive to try this place! So good! A menu with options for fresh fish! The garlic bread was crusty and addictive. We ordered crab claws for an app and the portion was pretty big and tasted amazing, The fish was perfect. The margaritas were good. We had the key lime for dessert, it was just okay. Can't wait to make this drive again!

Jennifer B.

Yelp
We ordered two sushi rolls and a kids meal. The sushi was not great at all. Would not recommend. The kids meal was $15 for literally less than a whole chicken tender + fries. Absolutely insane to be charged that much for what was served. Choose somewhere else. Skip this place.

Joshua H.

Yelp
Nice expensive crowded and loud because everyone is squeezed in. Kind of fancy place if you are looking for that. Sushi was amazing. The rest of the food was average. Come here for the sushi nothing else. Service was good.

Brian C.

Yelp
Terrible food. Small ridiculous portions and a very rude and insulting person think a big shot with tats and all. Very rude. Run don't walk near this place.

David K.

Yelp
It's a pretty decent place as far as Orange Beach restaurants go. Martini selection is creative and ambiance is good. Fish is better than most places in this area so give it a try.

Marsha M.

Yelp
I can't say enough good things about Big Fish Restaurant in Orange Beach! It has been my go-to dining spot for years, and I've never been disappointed. The fresh seafood and incredible sushi options are simply unbeatable. Every visit is a delightful experience, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a top-notch dining experience.

Tyra W.

Yelp
Amazing fresh seafood! We had the grouper- big fish style... it did not disappoint! The firecracker shrimp were also amazing!

Hayden R.

Yelp
From the appetizer to dessert, DELICIOUS!!!! Me and my Fiancé waited an hour, well worth the wait. There is a patio out back to hang out at.

Macy B.

Yelp
Under different circumstances I would likely have given this place 4 stars. Unfortunately, due to waiting 1 1/2 hours for our entrees to be prepared I do not feel this place earned 4 stars. Pros: very cute outside patio where you can order cocktails/wine/beer while you wait for your table, food is decent - we had fresh grouper and tile fish, alcoholic beverages were good and not overpriced Cons: the wait, the wait, the wait, and again ...the wait. I am all for waiting for good food especially in a tourist area during busy season HOWEVER 1 1/2 hours for a fresh fish dish that was clearly served with pre made mashed potatoes and vegetables is insane I really would have loved to try the dessert and coffee as they looked wonderful but after a 3 hour wait between waiting for a table and waiting to eat me and my family had reached our limit. I will say this is one of the better restaurants we have been to while here and it's on the verge of being great but they have got to decrease the turn around time on their dishes.

Halycon B.

Yelp
Big Fish is an excellent restaurant on Canal Road in Orange Beach. I adore the crab salad and volcano roll but then I adore everything Big Fish has on the menu. The menu changes often given whatever is fresh from the Gulf so take your flexibility along for dinner. Diver scallops, sushi, shrimp, crab, queen snapper, triple tail, mahi mahi, trigger fish etc - cooked and presented with flare and taste. This is a top destination for exquisite cuisine in Orange Beach. Don't pass it by.

Julianna C.

Yelp
This restaurant was recommended to us and when we pulled up we almost didn't go in. We were going to "judge a book by it's cover". We would have missed out BIG TIME! From the outside it looks like a strip mall but inside you are met with white table cloths and wonderful aromas. High end dining with a choice of seafood, sushi, or steak. Tip: get the garlic bread! Everything we ate was excellent. I don't think you can go wrong here.

Jeremiah M.

Yelp
First of all the waitress seemed to bothered answering questions and showed attitude. However I was recommended this restaurant and menu looked good. However my Fish was supposed to be gulf caught fresh snapper... but not sure how I could tell as it was WAY over cooked. was like eating the sand not fish . The Spinach tasted like was boiled. My wife also got a fresh dish Triple tail, and it to was overcooked and dry. Was very expensive, and wouldn't care except fish anywhere else I've tried has been better cooked .... the chef shouldn't call themselves that as a fry cook does a better fish. I saw a waiter put to many plates on a tray and one fell off and he used his hands to put it back on plate it fell from . So save your time and money and go somewhere else that cares about putting out a quality product.

Olen R.

Yelp
Great service, with the best, most simple yet creative fresh fish, and killer sushi! The bar is limited for seating, but has a nice vibe.
