A Guide to Dining in the Irish Channel

"This little fish market is THE place for crawfish in season (both cooked and live), as well as all the bounty of the Gulf. Swing by for a couple pounds of boiled crab or shrimp and enjoy it at home or in the nearby park (there are no dining tables in the market). Or pick up fresh speckled trout or catfish filets to cook at home for dinner. It’s a neighborhood institution, but they’ll pack and ship to wherever you are." - Nora McGunnigle, Clair Lorell

Great place for fresh and super tasty seafood, especially crawfish! We had boiled crawfish and crabs, the flavor is so balanced yet spicy, goes perfectly with local beer Abita, the owner is so nice he tought us how to eat crawfish profesionnaly. The most important part, everything is so fresh , and the price is very reasonable. We miss this place so much! For two of us we had 4 lbs crawfish, next time would really consider 10lbs... Just cannot have enough!

The only thing that matters here is the crawfish... and for that, you can't get better. The best boil, they do it right. Hard to not eat 7 pounds in a sitting.

I took my son to New Orleans for his 12th birthday. This was one of our first stops. The crawfish were super fresh and the boil was amazing. When they rang up our order I had to ask if they made mistake because the price was extremely affordable. We'll never forget those crawdads

Quite honestly I can't give this place a real review. I will say they are the only place in town I know that sells cold drinks (soda) for less than a dollar. Seventy-five cents. $.75 can you believe. Okay. This place has been here for quite a while. They have all the in season seafood you need. I saw live blue crabs, oysters and some other fish. They had some frozen and seasoned items too.

Was brought here by my fiance as a surprise for my birthday. He knows how much I like seafood apparently he had called around to several places to see who had the best crabs at the best price and this is where we wound up. I am one of those really picky people I only wanted female crabs I got a dozen of the largest size and a dozen female of the next size down and oh my goodness these crabs were fresh and very well seasoned and when I say well-seasoned I don't mean to where it's got too much spice that you need a gallon of milk just to stop your mouth from burning I mean to wear it's really flavorful without all that gosh darn spice that every other seafood place uses way too much of so if you're like me and you want Seafood that you can actually eat without killing yourself what would ever kind of pepper they put in that stuff this is your place it has pepper don't get me wrong but not too it's going to burn your mouth off and you can even let your kids eat your Seafood from here I have a 5 year old daughter who loves crabs and crawfish and usually I have to boil them myself for her to be able to eat it but here the spice was perfect do what you can she can eat it

Love this place for fresh and boiled seafood. Tons of frozen options too for take home. Reasonable prices. Definitely give them a call ahead to check that they have some of what you want cause they do run out. Parking can be tough some days, don’t part in the grocery store lot.

Went on a Friday at opening time - not much to choose from - went for the boiled crawfish and shrimp, also tried a crawfish pie (amazing, must try - fishy and rich, totally yummy!) The shellfish was underwhelming and dare I say it, frozen - distinct bitter ozone taste. The guy who served us was helpful and cheery. Wish there had been somewhere to sit down and start cracking shells. Also wish we had been given some hand wipes or napkins.
