🐾 Dog Friendly 🍺 Great Brews 🌮 Delicious Food (delivery option) 🎲 Fun Games 🏈 Sports on TV What a fun place! We’re often looking for a spot to take our pup and we were especially excited that Big Lick Brewing allows doggies INSIDE! Since the food offering is offsite, this is perfectly allowed. At each table you’ll find a QR code to order food from two of the nearby restaurants. We opted for Tuco’s and LOVED the Birria Tacos + Nachos. (See photos) There were games for adults and kids with all ages here enjoying the space. We’ll stop in again if we’re around! 🍻

Big Lick Brewing offers a polished and spacious setup right in downtown Roanoke. The interior is open with a wraparound bar, while the outdoor area features plenty of umbrella-covered tables—ideal for both small groups and larger gatherings. It’s clear the space is well cared for and designed for comfort. We happened to visit during a live Irish music set, complete with Uilleann pipes and Bodhrán—an unexpected and welcome throwback to our time in Ireland. As for the beer, Fish Lips was the standout. This grodziskie-style ale brewed with 100% oak-smoked wheat was soft, smoky, and true to style. A unique option for fans who need to shake things up from traditional lagers and IPAs.

Google
Really cool brewery. The inside has a lot of seating along with the outside as well. The games to play and stuff to keep you busy or your kids while you're there. The staff are nice and the beer is pretty good. It's definitely family-friendly and a great place to being your dogs, if you wanted to.

Google
We stopped in on a Monday evening as we heard there was Irish music. The music is a group in a small backroom. It's mostly a bunch of folks who gather on Mondays to play together. The music was wonderful. The sour ale I had was great. Many beers to try. They don't serve food, but you can order from next door on your phone and they bring it over. We had the chips, salsa, guacamole and queso. It was really good. Well worth the stop if you like craft beers.

Maybe it's me!! First time in this establishment and I guess it was about 5 minutes and noticed no one asked "what'll be",no big deal ya know. Give the new patron a chance to look over the tap list!! Well, another 5 minutes goes by and the photo explains it all. WOW 👌 So I finally get noticed in a somewhat empty brewery, no introduction, no mention of specials, I don't even think there was any eye contact on the part of the staff. Anyway I see how this is going to go.... So I order a beer and then was asked to start a tab, again no problem 😊 I get my beer and ask for another! So I don't have to wait another 10 minutes. When the staff returns, I asked for the tab!! I got a look like Dahmer walked in!! So the moral of story is, "I knew it, I felt the vibe" I might try this establishment on another shift, every body has a bad day once in a while....

Lovely date night stop. The bartender was warm and welcoming. Great advice on flavors to try in a flight. Really cared about our experience. And it was great! Loved everything we tried and appreciated the variety of offerings. The facility is huge inside and out. Lots of natural light and fun decor that works for a quick drink or an afternoon of fun with friends. Loved the doggie biscuits. Shows that they care about all their customers. Big Lick was a win!

Google
Stopped in for dinner and beer while on a road trip from Delaware to Western NC. We really enjoyed our time here! Located downtown, Big Lick has indoor and outdoor seating. They have a diverse beer menu, and had live music when we were there. The beer that I had was really good. They also have several local restaurants that offer QR code orderering from your table. Note: Parking can be a little tricky. They have something like 35 spots available but those fill quickly. People were having to search while we were there. Still, if we lived in the area, we would be here often. We hope to return.

Google
In town and friends suggested Big Lick as a good go to. First time here on a cold March. There was a huge outdoor patio for warmer times and the inside had plenty of seating throughout. There was a live band on this occasion with a younger crowd for a jam punk style atmosphere. The brews were good and the inside itself was decorated nicely. It was super busy but we never had a problem getting drinks and moving around. The noise was a bit intense for the building but all in all a good stop for a local feel and draft beers. Cheers !!

Yelp
We were visiting the area and wanted to check out a local brewery. We arrived shortly after 7pm after parking in a small parking garage down the street since their parking lot was full. It was a beautiful fall evening and there were a good number of people enjoying both the outdoor and indoor spaces. We made our way inside and were impressed they also had a live band playing on the stage. We looked around a bit, enjoying the industrial feel of the building and the music. We took a place in line and ultimately I chose a pint of the Bareback Bronco IPA. We love good swag so we made our way to look at the offerings. My wife quickly commented on their cute and clever designs which are printed on soft, comfortable cotton shirts, hoodies, etc. They also had a good selection of assorted discount t shirts available in small, xxl and xxxl sizes. The band engaged the audience with the Chris Stapleton favorite, Tennessee Whiskey which was fun. We ultimately decided to enjoy one of the high top tables outside while I drank my beer, which I enjoyed and ended up purchasing an additional 4-pack for our long weekend in Roanoke. Great stop, if you enjoy local breweries, make sure to stop in. We noticed they are also open Sundays. We did see some people with food that appeared to either have been delivered or they brought with them.

Yelp
This is a nice, clean, spacious brewery with seating Inside and out. My husband really enjoys their beer and this time was no different. They are dog friendly. Service was quick. There is a nice selection of merchandise. There was a very relaxed atmosphere on a Monday evening.
google avatar

Yelp
Great service and beautiful atmosphere. My husband and I were in town running errands and we decided to stop in for the first time. Really cool spot for a good beer. We will be back again!

Yelp
While this looks lovely inside & out and has its own parking lot,we felt their beer selection was a bit lacking, especially as we had just been to another brewery in the area earlier. The big plus is that since there's no food inside (there's a foodtruck outside),dogs are allowed inside to enjoy the ACd space :) I liked some of the notes in the restrooms-very well said! The bartenders are knowledgeable and able to recommend different flavors-this just wasn't our "pint of beer",so to speak, but perhaps it may be yours..?

Yelp
Great place and inviting. Live music is awesome and the beer selection is deep and delicious

Yelp
Stoped in for the first time to meet friends for drinks and music bingo. The atmosphere was welcoming. Service was friendly and fast. The patio area was pleasant. Looking forward to going back for trivia night.

Yelp
May 25, The weather was perfect, the food outstanding, the beer excellant..and the entertainment for the night was Mark Folks..exceptional talent and will definitely be back..second time being there, but first time hearing great music while there..what a great evening! I ordered food and it came right to my table..delicious and hot! What a great place for friends to gather and hear an awesome entertainer..can't wait to go again!

Yelp
Cool spots, but drinks were not very good. Tasted super watery and lacked flavor. Also! The DJ or sound guy is not very professional literally changed the song constantly in the middle of it and kept turning it up super loud and then low. We went here two nights and the same music issues. It was peaceful outside but that was annoying. We went across the street to the Golden Cactus it was a much better vibe.. and the music wasn't as obnoxious.
google avatar

Yelp
Great atmosphere, great beer selection, and great music. The staff is extremely helpful and hospitable. Had a great time.

Yelp
Drinks (3/5): We got the Berry Davis Eyes (3/5) and Open Secret 5.0 (3/5). Both were a fruited beer/gose. Inside/Ambiance (5/5): Dog and kid friendly. Lots of outdoor and indoor seating, but seemed to always be packed with people. There was a stage that I assume is used for live music. I can't wait to come back during warmer weather to chill outside!

Yelp
My wife and I were recently in town for a small family reunion. Needing a bit of a great from, you know, the family, we absconded to Big Lick for a brew or two on an absolutely gorgeous early-March evening. Big Lick is a spacious brewery, both inside and out, with a wide range of beers on tap, and seemingly as many options of dogs to pet out on the patio, always a plus. The outdoor area must be incredible in the summer, and it was perfect on this night as well. A nice, chill vibe with some pretty good beers and conversations to match.

Yelp
I had a good feeling about this brewery when visiting Roanoke as soon as we got out of the car. The first thing that caught my eye was the awesome mural and large patio. The patio was lit up with lights and had many hanging options from standing tables, picnic benches, and some lower long row benches around some fire pits. It made it very easy to social distance and feel comfortable. The architecture of the brewery building itself was cool with lots of open windows and modern elements. We went inside only to order our drinks, but it was cool looking in there too. Nice, big bar with some seating and you can see the brewing tanks in the back. They don't serve food, but you are welcome to get food from neighboring restaurants to enjoy while at the brewery. They even had menus on hand and let you know who was open/closed at the time. They were taking COVID restrictions very seriously, which I appreciated. Mask requirements, spread out tables, hand sanitizer available, and reduced capacity. Sadly this also meant they close early these days at 9pm. But we got to enjoy a couple beers before having to leave. My husband got a Juicy New England IPA (can't remember the name) that he really liked. We intended to come back another day and get some of their beers in cans to-go, but it just never worked out time wise. I got the Open Secret Sour- Fruited Gose. I really liked this Gose that featured blackberry, raspberry, Meyer lemon, vanilla bean and lactose. It was described as tasting like Smartee candies I guess due to its pleasantly tart taste. It was great for some easy drinking on a nice Spring evening and had a pretty pink and purple color.

Yelp
Great Brewery! Friendly Staff! Interesting background story. Definitely recommend the IPAs!

Carly M.

Yelp
They were all super friendly and helpful! Loved how it was dog friendly inside and outside as long as leashes and well behaved and the beer was amazing! We each got a flight and did a have a bad beer :)

Yelp
This was a fun spot for dinner during our friend trip to Roanoke. Plenty of seating, good beer selection, and super fast delivery of delicious food from nearby burger and taco spots. The truffle fries from Beamer's and guac/queso/salsa trio from Tuco's were both great. We tried the carnitas and steak burritos from Tuco's also and all preferred the carnitas.

Jake G.

Yelp
Served us right before they were closing very nice Very smart knew exactly what we wanted Nathan was very experienced
google avatar

alyse m.

Yelp
Such a fun space, with plenty of space indoors and outdoors to sip their delicious beer. The vibe is casual and fun, and you can order Tuco's from across the street. There's no better pairing than a Big Lick brew and Tuco's chips & guac. It's dog friendly, too! We're hosting a happy hour here for a big group and the staff was so awesome and easy to work with. Definitely recommend for groups big or small!

Yelp
This brewery and another one was the best one I've had in the area. Lots of choices. The hazy IPA was good. So was the black beer. Sit inside. Outside. You need a mask! They take card. Cool shwag. They didn't have a bad beer. I made sure to try IPA, Gose, Schwartz, lager. All delicious. Yes, flights. But you'll stand out as a visitor. Clean bathroom. Cool vibe. They do growlers and crowlers. Limited 4 packs since they sell out FAST. Go get tacos from across the street and you'll be in heaven!

Yelp
Big Lick has consistently been the best brewery in Roanoke for me. Great variety of beer styles, friendly staff, and lots of space for meeting with friends or just having a beer. Dog friendly and you can bring in food or order from local places who deliver. The outdoor space with fire pits is spacious as well. Enjoy cornhole or my favorite, people watching! If you can only do one brewery this is the best bet. It is also close to Twisted Track, another great spot a little over a block away with great food. Golden Cactus Brewing is literally across the street with a very cool indoor and outdoor space and food as well.

Kenia L.

Yelp
Really nice spacious brewery. It's located in downtown Roanoke but has its own parking lot, which is a plus in downtown. We were looking for something to do Saturday evening/night and this place had good reviews. When we walked in we definitely noticed we were the only Latinos in there but after some initial looks everyone seemed pretty friendly. Tried a bunch of different brews and my favorite had to be the Open Secret. I love sour beers so this one was perfect. The White Bronco was also pretty good. There actually wasn't a beer I tried there that I didn't like. They have some seating inside but I feel like they could definitely add some more. There's plenty of seating outside but it was brick cold so no one was out there. They have a small stage for bands. I was kinda bummed that they didn't have anyone performing especially on a Saturday. I think they had someone on stage the night before but would have been nice if they did performances both nights. Overall, we had a good time and tried some good beers.

Yelp
We chose Big Lick Brewing Company because they are a dog-friendly brewery (outside AND inside). Of course there was limited seating due to COVID but outside they had many covered tables and plenty of seating. Masks were required whenever you were not seated and everyone seemed to comply. The staff was constantly coming around to clear glasses and keep things clean. They had a really great sour beer--Stawberry Peach Gose. Absolutely delicious. The IKera Coconut Brown Ale was also a favorite. Big Lick does not serve food, however, there is a taco restaurant across the street that seemed to be doing a killer business feeding everyone at the brewery with their take out. A really solid spot to stop by if you are in the Roanoke area.

Yelp
Visiting from out of town, creating our own beer crawl, we ended up at Big Lick as a part of the Virginia Blue Ridge Beer Trail. They are located slightly outside the Downtown area, in a quaint little artisan area. With ample indoor & outdoor seating & a taco restaurant across the street it seemed like a great place to hang out & grab a drink. Though, as an IPA lover, I found their drink menu to be limited, with only one option on the menu, and the one option didn't particularly wow me, so I think they were meh average, but it was a nice spot to visit.

Dave W.

Yelp
Nice brewery with something new every time I come to Roanoke. I am admittedly a bit of a beer snob and they do not disappoint. Something always available from the 4 main food groups, IPA, Stout, Lager, Brown. Also will typically have my favorites Sours and Belgium/Farmhouse ales as well. Nice room, plenty of space, great downtown location, plenty of free parking. A must stop for any beer lover visiting Star City.
google avatar

Joel W.

Yelp
The outdoor seating area is awesome. The music is usually great. But the beer is bad! The seltzers are never carbonated enough either. I've tried many different styles because I want to like this place. My other 20-something-year-old friends feel the same way. In my opinion, they should try to figure out a couple of basic beers that are good then mess around with the fancy and experimental stuff.
google avatar

Katie L.

Yelp
Came to see a band we enjoy. Beer was good to start the evening. Unfortunately, as soon as the band started, Jessie, a gentleman behind the bar, started loudly and visibly protesting the volume. The crowd had a BLAST but Jessie CONTINUED to show his displeasure to the point it upset members of the audience. Boyfriend mentioned to Jessie that the band was the reason we visited, not him, and to stop being so dramatic behind the bar in front of customers. Jessie proceeded to tattle tail to someone else behind the bar and pointed and snarled at us repeatedly. Left feeling unwelcome and upset due to the experience when we'd normally stay for more than 2 beers. Unfortunately wont be back.

Nancy E.

Yelp
Good beer. Even took a four pack of White Bronco to give as a gift. Staff very friendly.

Yelp
My wife and I stopped in to check the place out. This is probably one of the nicest breweries that I have visited in the Roanoke area. They have a lot of indoor and outdoor seating, which is really nice. They also have a pretty good beer selection from lagers to IPA. The beer that I liked the most was the West Station Pils. It was really good on a warm Friday evening. It is also very dog friendly... I don't have a dog but I like having them around. There was also a band playing called Wake the Sun and they were pretty good. This place was packed on Friday evening! It has a very relaxed atmosphere and they had a guy that was continually collecting glasses from the outdoor area so it didn't get junked up with glasses. They do not serve food but there is a taco place across the street and they keep a waitress going back and forth so that is a really nice convenience. There are two cons and they are not huge. 1. Parking can be a challenge. Even though they have 3 or so lots to park in, they were already all full when we got there. The longer we stayed, the more crowded it got... I have no idea where those people parked! There may be somewhere nearby that I am unaware of. 2. There was only one order point for drinks. The bartenders did a good job keeping it moving, but the line was from the counter to the door pretty much everytime I went to get a refill. But it did move pretty fast. This is a definite return visit for me! We are already talking about meeting some friends there! Definitely give this place a try.

Yelp
I can't say enough good things about Big Lick Brewing. I used to go here almost weekly back at the old location, and I'm glad to see that they've been growing in the past few years to a bigger venue. This local brewery manages to make creative brews with a draught list that rotates weekly and rarely misses the mark. Even though they have been upsizing, the quality has remained exceptional. This would be a top brewery in any city. They excel at IPAs, but their stouts, sours, exports are all solid. A strong recommendation for any beer drinker.
google avatar

Stephanie J.

Yelp
First brewery visit while visiting friends in the Roanoke area. Big Lick is a smaller brewery (for my Raleigh friends, it is comparable to Brueprint in size). I was able to try 5/7 beers (the other two were not available) in a flight. My favorite beer on tap was the Dirges in the Dark, a Cascadian Dark Ale / Black Ale. The Casey's Kolsch and Gone Koco, a Porter with toasted coconut, were both solid choices too. Chill spot to grab a few beers. Only downsides are 1) it gets loud depending on the crowd and 2) it closes at 9 on Friday and Saturday night, this is too early for a weekend in my opinion
google avatar

Yelp
What a great spot!! My wife is up here helping out a dealership for a few days and I decided to do some exploring. Breweries are always my first search when traveling to a new place, well let's be honest, any place really! This location was easy to find and I had no problem finding a parking spot in their lot at 4pm on a Friday. I asked the beertender for his suggestion as I typically drink porters and stouts and he recommended the Kera Coconut Brown Ale It was SO good! Tons of flavor and easy drinking! I even got a crowler to go of that and a Strawberry Peach Gose for my wife! The entire staff was super friendly and extremely informative! Inside and outside seating and everything as very clean! I will definitely be going back before heading out of town and grabbing some goods to take back home!

Yelp
During a trip to the city of Roanoke, after a day of exploring and seeing what the city had to offer i searched breweries on yelp..BINGO. Big Lick Brewing Company is a great place to gather and drink very tasty beers. They have a very rustic setting, plenty of room and live music and the usual merchandise. I cannot remember the beers i had right off the top of my head but i can say they were good. I tried a few, enjoyed a couple pints and bought a growler and t-shirt for the road. If you are ever in Roanoke and are looking for a good brewery, this is one of the best.
google avatar

Makenzie L.

Yelp
This brewery is SO nice! The space is very industrial and clean. They have a great outdoor space with picnic tables, umbrellas and they allow dogs. It was pretty crowded on a Saturday afternoon/evening, but getting to the bar was never a real issue! We had the Hefeweizen and it was 5 stars!!! We normally always order different beers at breweries, but this one really caught (and held) our attention! They don't have any food options, but promote people going to the taco place next door and bringing back takeout which is kind of a cool option. If I'm ever back in Roanoke I will definitely be stopping by to see what's new on tap!

Leslie B.

Yelp
My daughter and I came here during a weekend trip and really enjoyed the music, dogs and beer!
google avatar

Dani G.

Yelp
This place did a great job over Memorial Day weekend and entering into unknown waters with bars re-opening their patios during Virginia's Phase One Process. You have to wear a mask when you go to order your drink, but you can take it off once you get back outside. No one was congregating outside in ways that they weren't supposed to and the drinks were very good. The sour IPA that they have on draft has become my new favorite and its unlike anything I have ever tasted before. I will be back if im ever in the area.

Yelp
We attended a pre wedding gathering here, and I was curious about the name as I saw it in several different places in town. After doing a little googling, it turns out that Big Lick used to be the name of the town because of salt springs that attracted wildlife. Seems like a lollipop or tequila place would be more fitting for the area, but no, it's breweries that are popular here, especially this one. I really only saw the outside area, which is extremely inviting and well done. Lots of tables, benches, and fire pits underneath string lights. Very pretty at night, and a cool looking mural on the corner building. Almost everyone sitting outside had a friendly canine companion which I loved. As for the beer, well I'm not a beer aficionado. Trying to avoid the least beer tasting beer, I was trying to decide between a mango and a key lime brew. Ultimately, I went with the key lime brew which was fine, but I'm sure a true beer drinker would have enjoyed it much more. Great place to hang out. If you enjoy unique brews, come check it out.
google avatar

Jessica M.

Yelp
Great fun and family friendly atmosphere. Spacious and has live music. Nice beer and hard seltzer selection too.
google avatar

Eric S.

Yelp
One of Roanoke's best places to hang out. Great beer great music and a super friendly and knowledgeable staff to guide you along even during the busiest of times. Parking is a bitch but once you're in you don't care where your car is. Nice outdoor seating and patio area as well as a nice private room for darts or a party. Don't leave this off your list of places to see in Roanoke
google avatar

Elspeth G.

Yelp
They're not enforcing social distancing and masks right now. I left early yesterday because there were crowds of people gathering without masks and ignoring boundaries. They are also using non-recyclable disposable cups right now.
google avatar

MandA R.

Yelp
We stopped in for a quick drink and my husband and I ordered the saison. Very good! I liked the small, cozy, relaxed vibe of this place. The free popcorn was good and the bartenders were friendly. There was a guy selling pizza slices in the front of the room if anyone got hungry. We were only here for a beer so not much else to say except we liked it here and would return.
google avatar

Allison M.

Yelp
Agree with all the previous reviews - great place to check out with awesome indoor and outdoor space + dog friendly + delicious beers. I got a flight with 6 of their IPAs and they were all pretty solid - my favorites were the white broncho, oblectation, and mosaic hoptimism (I really like new england IPAs). They offer pizza and tacos from places right nearby, which I didn't get to try. Overall, just a really amazing space, lots of seating inside as well as a big wrap around bar. They have a really nice outdoor deck space that I didn't utilize on a cold day, but can imagine being really nice on a warmer occasion.
google avatar

Lucas E.

Yelp
This is exactly what you want from a micro-brewery in a medium size town. The beer is really tasty and creative. The service and ambiance is great. I felt a sense of community which is think something breweries are typically good at, and Big Lick is no exception. No food, but there is a place across the street you can oder from via a kiosk inside the brewery, and they will bring it right over. Spacious. Well ran. If I am ever back in Roanoke I will be back at Big Lick.

He Said She Said ..

Yelp
He said: This place is a winner. I have reason to come from a nearby town to this town for the Boy's sports practice and finally "found" BLBC. The few times I've been here have all been Sundays around 2pm and each time seating was easy to find and the beers came quickly. This time She came with me, so we finally get to write a review! First off: the staff is awesome. Friendly, attentive, helpful, and willing to chat about whatever if time permits. Far too many places don't have this "feature". The beers seem to rotate nicely. Each of my visits have had at least one new (to me, anyway) offering. And, what's this? A brewery that makes a black lager? Very cool. I'm not calling this the best style of beer in the whole world, but I really like it and BLBC is doing it right. Finally, BLBC has a great relationship with nearby eateries. Sometimes there is even a person posted from the nearby taco shop *in* the tap room. Gotta love that. She said: After hearing He rave about this place, I was happy to finally have a chance to visit. As He said, the staff is great, the space is groovy, and the beers are tasty--what more could you want?! "Good food" you may say, in which case you're in luck because the Mexican place across the way provides exactly that. I wish we lived a little closer (as in, around the corner) so that we could visit way more often. Potty Points: Five out of five potty points. Sparkly and clean!
google avatar

Brendan J.

Yelp
Love the rotating drafts and friendly service. Can always find something good, and has been one of the most dog friendly places in the area, inside and out. Annual membership is well worth it if you get a chance in January.
google avatar

Jesse C.

Yelp
Great beer love it & the atmosphere was awesome I love the fire pits. They welcome dogs.
google avatar

Ron B.

Yelp
Big Lick offers a great variety of great beers, with at least 15 or 20 on tap every time I've been here. There's lots of parking on the street, and it's very pleasant when you get here. Ample outdoor seating if you're into that sort of thing, one TV usually playing sports and a large air-conditioned indoor seating area with tables and bar. Four ounce, eight ounce, and 16 ounce pours. The taco place across the street often has an employee in big lick, so you can order here and the food will be delivered shortly.
google avatar

Jayne G.

Yelp
Nice brewery! Cool vibe inside and a large outdoor area put front. Both inside and put have staged for entertainment. We sat at the bar and ordered a flight of 6 beers. We loved 5 out of six so that is pretty good odds. The beer was flavorful and they had a large variety on tap. We will be back!
google avatar

Nick L.

Yelp
Being from New England I am critical of IPA's everywhere. This brewery has fantastic beers, with ambiance to match. Only been on Saturday nights but this spot is ALWAYS busy with good live music.

Scarlet B.

Yelp
Pretty cool spot inside and outside with lights and tons of patio area, darts in the back. Dogs are inside and outside which is cool. Nice area to watch a live band.
