Big Lou's Pizza

Big Lou's is known for their amazingly large pizzas! I believe their biggest is 42" round?? It will feed a large amount of people and you'll still awkwardly take some back home! I've been many times and have never felt disappointed by their food. Side salads are ice-cold, fresh, and delicious. Their pizza is good, a little greasy, as to be expected, but good flavor and quality of ingredients with a lot of variety if you like a more flavorful pizza. Is it the best pizza you'll ever have, NO... and not to be harsh on them, but it's just not a brilliant and creative pizza, which to some people might be a good thing, but to me, it's just good without hitting that status of "Great". I still go here often, and honestly, possibly the most under-appreciated item on the menu, is their Pizza Wraps!! They are beyond delightful and an order has three which is just enough for a lunch hour meal if you're in the area. This place has some quirks and isn't here to give you the best meal you'll ever experience. Service is typically good but don't expect to be pampered. They're known for their incredibly large pizzas and simply being there when they bring one out to a table, even if it's not your own table, is an experience worth the trip. If you can assemble a large group of people, the value and size of the meal becomes reasonable and a memory you'll share for a lifetime. Kids are absolutely fascinated by these things, and rightfully so! Images are of a 37" pizza and an order of pizza wraps as takeout. As their motto states, "We don't do average, we do BIG!"

This has to be one of the best pizza spots in San Antonio, and I’ve been around town trying them all! Definitely has some of the freshest and more premium ingredients, and the brightest smiles around! Food: 20/10 The food is definitely as fresh as it gets, there’s a little wait but always remember that the wait is WORTH IT! Everything seems to be made fresh to order, and everything just melts in your mouth! The dough is just great for those who like to eat the crust, and the portions are just GENEROUS! Also the prices are very affordable compared to the portions served; you definitely get your moneys worth! Service: ♾️/10 It would be a disservice if I didn’t shout out a certain team member who went above and beyond, his name is Zack! He was definitely trained with the Big Lou’s vision in mind, and he kept up with our party to the fullest extent! Refills were timely, he checked up on us. He was just a great person overall, and did everything to the upmost excellence! If he doesn’t get a raise soon, I’m gonna raise hell instead! Atmosphere: 10/10 The atmosphere was great, it felt like a cool old school pizza diner, full of antique posters and tables. The lighting definitely set the mood in place, and the smell of pizza was just perfect. Overall I definitely recommend this place to anyone interested in trying a great pizza place, you will not be disappointed!

Biggest pizza I’ve ever seen! They have a tray in a nearby room to show just how massive it really is. No joke — you’d need a group of 20 plus to finish it. I didn’t go that big though 😅 Instead, we ordered two pizzas and 12 wings. The Sweet Memphis BBQ was super tasty, and the brisket pizza is a must-try. Our waitress was awesome and the service was excellent. Next time, I might just go for that 42-inch pie 😉

This is my first time at Big Lou’s Pizza. We went here to celebrate my brother’s birthday and it well be one of our future go-to spots for family celebrations! Our server, Nate, was outstanding—he even joined in singing Happy Birthday with us, which made the occasion extra special. Everything came out perfect, and the food was both delicious and satisfying. Highly recommend for anyone dining with a large group!

Big Lous is our favorite place to celebrate as a family. Zach our server was fantastic even though as a group we were a lot. He didn't get anything wrong! The food is always so delicious and filling. Would recommend for any large group!

We were a party of nine. Amanda was our server. We were seated right away, given menus and drink orders taken. We received our drinks in a timely manner and then our orders taken. Amanda explained the process for separate checks. I ordered t He Chicken Parmesan Fettuccine. Our orders were delivered in a timely manner. We all enjoyed our meals. Amanda w as an excellent server and her service was outstanding. The ambiance was pleasant. We will return.

Everything was delicious at Big Lou's. I hadn't been there in probably 20 years. I really was impressed with their cheesy breadsticks. They were so fresh and hot but the marinara sauce was just as delicious , the sausage pizza didn't have much flavor, but the pepperoni pizza was really good and the beer was served in an ice cold mug. It was cold and delicious.

Big place with large private parking lot that fills up quickly Ppl even parked in front on the road Hard to get inside for a table Order 3 pizzas and they are great Sausage has a kick to it but good Their gluten free substitute is cauliflower crust which was excellent and a small extra charge Reasonable prices No reservations unless you have a party of 20 or more

We had a birthday party there and me and my family and grandkids enjoyed the huge pizza and the wings and other entrées stuff was delicious

Ruby having a slice of pepperoni pizza, with some wings, garlic cheese bread. Atmosphere was cool, pizza was good also had the Texan, has jalapeños, to spicy for me, but it was delicious.

There is not much that is cooler than a 42" pizza! But it is cool when it's really good pizza! We got a 42" with 3 toppings and a 20" cheese. That fed 17 football coaches! It was 1/2 the price of a chicken or burger place. The restaurant is a classic "dive" (in a good way) Great for families or larger groups. Service was excellent our waiter was very good. If you are in San Antonio you need to stop and eat here!

4.5 stars rounded up. We're big fans of Big Lou's pizza! Our go-to order is the 14-inch pizza with pepperoni and pineapple, which is always delicious and satisfying. The Honey BBQ and Sweet BBQ wings are tasty, but they were a bit too spicy for our taste. They're a good size, but we rather save room for more pizza. The interior they keep sitting us at has a sports bar vibe, with dark rooms and numerous TVs showing various channels. I'm used to it now, but it seemed super dark to me when I first came. Service here is consistently good. For the best experience and shorter wait times, I recommend visiting between 1:00 and 4:00 PM on weekdays. We went on a Friday around 5 or 6 PM and it was still manageable, but on a Saturday at 3 PM, we waited 30-45 minutes for a table for two. Honestly, it was worth the wait still. Heads up: They've recently implemented a policy requiring an ID to match the credit card used for payment. While I don't mind showing ID, I prefer paying directly at the cashier rather than having the waiter take it. This measure is due to previous issues with fraudulent charges, so just be prepared to present your ID. Also, there's a 3% credit card fee.

We are in San Antonio for my son's BMT. We came to Lou's on a Thursday night at 7:50pm. When we first entered we were greeted by the ladies. We sat down and ordered almost immediately. The food was really good and the service was good too. The only complaint is that they charge for the water which is crazy. Try this place if you are in the area.

Big Lou's offers a fun and unique experience for the family if you want to eat a giant pizza! There's plenty of parking when we visited on a Sunday. My family of 5 waited a short 5 minutes to sit. The waitress was excellent and helpful during our first visit. The atmosphere is that of an old pizza parlor and it quite charming for us of a certain age. The pizza had great flavor and my family of 5 ordered two dozen wings and a 37" pepperoni pizza. We brought plenty pizza home so the pizza and price could easily serve 10. The price was decent and they serve Coke products. We would definitely recommend the experience of Big Lou's giant pizza and overall we will be returning for the pizza and wings!

Still coming back to Big Lou's and Roger is still the BEST part of the Big Lou's experience!!! I hope when you come to Big Lou's you know who to tip!!!!!!

My family and I have been waiting to try this Pizza Place for a while. We ordered the Lemon Pepper Wings, a 20 inch Cheese and Pepperoni, and The Big Texan . All was AMAZING DELICIOUS!!!!!! When we walked in to the restaurant it felt inviting, sports bar feel . No one in a hurry to flip tables or pushing to turn over tables ....... Wait staff was on point . Just came to check every so often, not forgot us ....... We are going to come back next mth.!!!!!!

Food was hot and delicious, took a while due to so many big parties. Our server was rude and rolled her eyes any time we asked for something so super delightful service. The place was packed so for 4 people and a toddler, we just enjoyed our time out. Very crowded dine in space so next time ordering to go! Bartenders were sweet and took care of drinks since we were there for 3 hours and never got refills or any waters.

Wife called in and order an when I arriving I expect to wait since the call was placed 40 mins before arrival. Once I get there the order is half filled. Waited another 45 mins at the location for the other half order. Now we have half an order fresh and half an order cool. You'd think we you you pay for over pizza the least that could happen is getting it in a respectable time. Last time I'd come here. At first I had this one star. Now since the situation transpired they offered me 2-1 liter drinks for the issue. Them the lady later came and seem I had my son an offered me a dessert for him and it was a beautiful birthday cake. So respect to the employees making it right. Elvira made it happen

Ordered 133$ worth of food to congratulate my staff at my business (37 inch pizza and 2 dozen wings). I asked if I could take a picture of the large pizza, to which employee responded I'm too busy and I had to push for one. Gave me 4 ranches, no sauce for pizza, had to ask for peppers and cheese. Was told that I had to have cash when asking for blue cheese, or $5 minimum for credit. Come on guys , $140 bucks and you don't have complementary sauces? Worst experience here so far. No wonder it almost went out of business. Let me add to this: Got a call back from "management" saying why I didn't come inside to rectify the situation. I was there physically. At no point did your employees indicate if there is an issue please talk to so and so. So they called to tell me off? Great customer service.

Parking can be confusing...there is parking up front and along the side but you don't go into the front door. It says enter from the back. So head to the back for parking. They have several handicapped parking spots right at the front of the back lot. They have plenty of parking but might be tight on weekends. Plenty of room to get a rollator or wheelchair in the door and to the hostess stand. Had a reservation and waited in the bar area for rest of the group to arriv. It's the experience that you come for...a 42 inch pizza which about covers the table. My second time here. First was during Covid and both times getting the 42 inch pizza with others. And it's a fun experience! Think dark club 50s vibes in the bar area. Was not super busy tonight but our group tables were full. Great service....had one guy doing the ordering and figuring out the cost for our group share...Thank you Dave. Service was nice and attentive, great about helping figure out the best way since they don't split that many checks...and great with refilling my drink. The pizza, pepperoni was ok but nothing I would drive across town to have. As I said it's the experience of that giant pizza. I might like it more with a different topping but it's an ok pizza and filling and fun. I hear the Italian food is quite something but somehow after all that pizza I have no space for takeout. It's something you need to experience and the kids will enjoy it. It's Texas ...of course a 42 inch pizza is what you order. They also have more normal sized pizzas, wings, sandwiches, pasta dinners, garlic knots etc and a full bar.

I love Big Lou's!! The garlic cheese sticks were so amazing. The pizza and wings!!! Yay!!!! So good! The staff was so kind and talked to us. The one thing I will say is they charged us for fountain waters, a dollar each. Besides that I would definitely recommend this place! Also, I have a big dog named Lou so the name was really close to my heart! God Bless you all!!

Me and my family came here after spending a week in San Antonio, we heard all the hype so we visited this place. The customer service was terrible as I've read on many other reviews. We got the big pizza and the pizza was not good at all, I've had way better pizza. We also got the wings which were surprisingly good. I will not be back, we went for the experience and got a good picture to put in our travel book, but definitely a waste of money

I am not a fan of leaving low reviews, especially when it is my first visit, but I don't think this one can be avoided. First the good, very nice front end staff, very accurate wait times, and prompt seating after the wait. Unfortunately, from there is where it went down hill. We were warned that they were very busy and that it might be about 5 minutes until our server would be at our table, that was closer to 10 minutes, without even a quick stop by that to tell us he was busy or he would be back soon. The server comes by and goes right to "I'm sure you are ready to order food" no mention of drinks or anything, so we ask for some waters, and he says, Oh i will bring 7 waters for everyone, normal. Then we asked for a few sodas, he warned us that they only had extra large Styrofoam cups and they currently didnt have any lids. No biggie in the moment. We order our food, ask for the wings and breadsticks to come out first, since we knew we would have a longer wait for our 42" pizza. he said no problem took our order and went on his way. Drinks came fast, but my beer took about another 10 minutes to come to the table. I had asked for pickle juice with the beer as well. Initially he said, this bar is out, ill go check our other bar for you. He passed by many times with no mention, until I had to ask him again, he said he forgot but he would go check. He comes back, said they were out, I asked if they put pickles on the pizza maybe i can get it from there, he said he would check and if not he would bring me a ramakin of pickles. That never happened, in fact he never even mentioned it again. Breadsticks come out, AMAZING, best thing we had eaten the whole night. Then as we are waiting for the pizza, no wings. He comes back and says, your pizza is finishing up, and the wings will be out after that. We asked for the wings, FIRST, but I guess he forgot about that as well. Then comes the massive pizza, certainly a spectacle for sure. The spectacle is where the fun stopped, sadly. Pizza gets dropped off, we ask for "buckets of ranch" he said he will get us some, he comes back a bit later with the Wings, no ranch, we ask again, and then finally a 3rd time before we get it brought out to us. Keep in mind, they are busy, I get that, but standard waiter stuff should be the normal. No refills of drinks, no checking on things other than the intial how are things when he brought the wings out. Pretty bad... As for the Pizza, the toppings tasted good, but the pizza was doughy, under cooked in the crust and unfortunately for a pizza of that size, you are handcuffed, you cant ask them to cook it more as it is a novelty item and you might as well just leave at that point because you'd be waiting a long time. We dealt with that, enjoyed the experience the best we could and asked for boxes and our bill. Now they do warn you that paying for your food with Credit card, does add a 3% surcharge, and they need to see ID. Why they walk off with your ID is odd, but its neither here nor there. What IS an issue is that they don't tell you before hand that you are being charged $1 for a water. It just appears on the bill. We had it removed but there was a bit of a standoff over it. I should have known when they were out of cups, lids and dont bring you any utensils that you are going to be in for a ride. Also the big sign on the front of the building that says "We are hiring, apply inside to help us stay open" should have provided more concern. They are clearly cost cutting, and it shows tremendously. Lets not forget to mention their restroom situation, walking to the area for the restrooms, smells horrendously of Urine, and inside the men's restroom, they might as well not even have urinals. There was as much water/urine on the floor as there was in the toilets. Very disgusting, and quite unsanitary. I know this place is very popular due to their massive pizza, and they have been around a long time, but I don't think I will ever recommend anyone try it and I Certainly wont be back for another visit. I think the only reason I am even giving 2 stars instead of 1, is the giant beer mug for only $10 and the bomb ass Garlic Bread Sticks... Otherwise, I would probably give a 1 or even a .5 star if Yelp allowed it.

They don't offer kids size drinks and then charge $3.59 for kids to get adult drinks. $21.54 in drinks for my family at this restaurant.

A very interesting place... dark inside and dirty. Men's room was filthy, not what I expected from a family oriented pizza place. However, our food server was very nice and her suggestion's helpful. The pizza was delicious. If it wasn't so far away from where we live we'd be back. Based on the food server and food I give it 4 stars.

We've eaten at Big Lou's twice. I heard of it on an episode of Man vs Food. Although laid back, it's a bit noisy but fun. Service was a little slow both times we went BUT it's well worth the wait! The pizza is absolutely delicious. Of course we can't eat the entire pizza but it makes for a delicious breakfast the next day!

I am a business owner, and I will not be coming back to this restaurant. First of all, we sat for 10 minutes and were completely ignored by the servers, the hostess, and the man that was having a very interesting conversation with the lady at the podium that is next to the bar. I tried flagging down a couple servers and was ignored yet again. Finally, I decided to take my leave and find a restaurant with better service and where they don't ignore you. I saw two tables that arrived after us, who were not ignored and were served promptly. I am very disappointed with Big Lou's Pizza and I will not be returning.

Poor service today with no help from the management. Only one person's food was delivered to the table. No apologies, no explanation. We waited another 15 minutes while the first food was getting colder and colder. Asked for the manager who did not come out to the table or assist. We finally just paid for the food and left. There's just no excuse for this.

I came to San Antonio for a training for work. I knew I would be her all week. My wife and children joined me later on in the week. When they arrived, I suggested pizza but my wife said she wanted to try this place. We walked in and were greeted by the host. We were seated within minutes. Really cool family environment and atmosphere. They also know how to cater to the adults as well as the kids. As we made our way to our seat, I could help but appreciate that they had no problem letting you know they are 2A business owners. The owner greeted us and shared his story with us. Our waiter was very kind and offered suggestions for our family of 5. We chose the 37" with a quarter cheese, a quarter pepperoni and half meat lovers. The pizza is came out hot and tasty. Fresh ingredients. The kids loved the cheese and the pepperoni. The wife and I knocked out the meat lovers. If you're ever in San Antonio and you want to tackle a lot of pizza with friends and family, tell Big Lou that Wil sent you!!!

The service was really good. Zach was our server and even though it was busy, he took great care of us. Philly cheese steak sandwich was spot on and the Chicken parmigiana/angel hair pasta was delicious. I highly recommend and will be a repeat customer.

Went to this restaurant hoping to have a great lunch, but wow being hit with extra fees really disappointed. We were a group of 10 - so that started a fee which I get. Then $1 for water, that better not be faucet water. Then a fee to use my credit card as well. Then the bill could only by split in 4 groups- not sure why it could not be split individually, but that is the rule- and want to respect. The food was great, that I have to say was perfect. Portion sizes are big ! You can definitely share a plate if needed. My other issue is they might be short on staff, just to get drinks took some time. I recommend, but be aware of the extra fees that you will endure as a group.

Today I purchased a large sausage pizza pie and there were only 2 pieces of sausage on each slice. So after talking with manager she felt that some of the sausages fell off the pizza pie during transportation from the oven to the box and she didn't want to replace me with another one . Funny I'm done eating at this establishment..

This place has a great atmosphere, especially the outdoors. It would be a great place to watch sports or a whatever. Anyways the food is amazing at this place including the wings. The staff was prompt and checked on us frequently. This restaurant is super generous with their food. We orders a 20" pizza and wings and we had an abundance of food. The only negative critique is the restrooms . It's smelled awful in the men's bathroom and was quite filthy. I recommend the manager inspects the restrooms and have them mopped and cleaned daily. A renovation of the bathrooms would be awesome! Other than that, I will still enjoy the food at this establishment.

The pizza is not just a novelty. The big 42 inch is fun and tasty. The garlic cheese bread was also great. Our server was friendly and attentive and easily catered to our party of 10. Even if they're on a wait, still put your name on the list as it moves fast. Perfect for a large group

Mild wings 10/10 Crispy rolls sausage wit jalapeño My #1 pizza spot to bring any out of town friends or family to. If they converted to just buffalo wings, they would give all the other places competition. The crispy rolls are always on point, have a nice crunch and lots of flavor!

CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS!!! We noticed that we were charged a service fee (close to an extra $20!) for our party, but we only had 7 guests! They have a policy that states any party with 10 guests or more will be charged a service fee. We luckily caught this but it was unfortunately after we had already paid. We now have to wait for our refund to go through and we're told it would process in about a week. What an inconvenience, and honestly it felt very shady that they tried to slap on an extra $20 and felt like we wouldn't notice. Of course this could have been an error but we were a party of 7; I highly doubt someone could have miscounted. The experience and food were great besides the up-charging they attempted on us. I would like to return in the future but it feels like they try to take advantage of their customers. Questionable business practices...

Okay brisket pizza. I'm not sure the last time I've been in a place that asked me to have my ID with my credit card, but I guess that's a safety measure so I didn't mind. Mara's brisket pizza is tastier.

I wish I the ability to give them a negative star review. Had a horrible service, the staff rarely came to our table. The food took longer than what was quoted to us. The waitress messed up our order and no apologies were even given to us. The worst part was that a service fee was charged to a really bad service provided. Before paying we requested an itemized bill and was told that we'll be getting it once we had already paid. Poor service and management as well, other restaurants that I've been too atleast the management is walking around to make sure the service is good.

So had big Lou's pizza and in all honesty it was mid at best. I mean it's great that the pizza is giant but could it taste a little better. When we started to eat it it wasn't even warm and it only took us 5 minutes to get back to the hotel. I might give them another shot when I come back into town but it's not a omg I need to eat here kinda place.

This is a must when we come down from Houston, but today our experience started off bad. But the Manager stepped in, fixed it and sent us to Amber. Let me tell you, Amber worked the bar & our table and she didn't miss a beat!!!! Order was correct, food came out hot, and she checked on us frequently. This is why we come back, because the management and staff always make us feel like family.

I didn't get a chance to really get into the pizza, but the Guinness on tap was outstanding and the service from the ladies behind the bar was, friendly, courteous, and top notch. I'll be back to try the pizza for sure!

I think Big Lou's is a place you go to just say you experienced it because you're in San Antonio and they have Big pizza. We waited in line for a while and the hostess was borderline rude with subtle undertones of a not so kind disposition. However, we were blessed to have the best waiter. Young man who was patient, and attentive. Jerrell, a prior Navy seaman so understandable, he is a credit to his service. He was way patient with my friend who is overly picky due to her dietary restrictions. He in my opinion made this visit enjoyable. I love the pizza, it's the staple so stick with that when you go. The additional items were ordered like the spaghetti were a bit bland. But the cocktails were delicious. I had a Big Lou's old fashioned and it was great. They also have a great variety of desserts. Prices are not bad at all either. I would say overall, we enjoyed our time. However the first impression and wait left us with a thought of leaving it to just the one time visit. Some kindness, greetings and smiles go a long way. I have to note that as we were leaving a waitress yelled and smiled, thank you all for coming, have a great night and that was to me proof that whoever's at the door can make the difference

Overall it was great. The wait time was exactly the amount of time I got told it was going to take. The server was fast and friendly. Food came out in a timely manner. My only knock against them is the food seemed a little too pricey but overall it was great.

I've always loved big lous pizza, even as a kid. I remember coming here and wondering how they could make a big Ole pizza and keep it hot when ready. This last visit was a bit disappointing. the service was very distraught. I'm not sure if it was because they were busy or just rude, but patience is required to deal with families of 5 or more constantly. Maybe a little more training would be nice. Now for the food, it took over 1 1/2 hours to get us our pizza. We noticed there were other families around us getting their pizzas before us. Even though they came after us, my family was bothered until we realized that they were the same size pizzas coming out. We brought this up with our waiter, (which did a great job, by the way ) his response was, "I'll go check on it," and "it just came out of the oven." When we got our pizza, it was not hot, as it "just came out of the oven." This then became frustrating. We had to bring it up with the manager. The manager was able to discount 20% on the order for the inconvenience, but truly i expect better from this place. I would rather have a good time and good food than a discount.

Pizza was amazing! Pizza came out hot and dough was 100% cooked, toppings were plentiful and crust had a garlic butter on the end that we loved. Wings were very good! Big and juicy, loved the chunks of garlic parm on the wings. Tea was also very good. Only drawback was I'm pretty sure waitress forgot the wings as we dint get them until we were half way down with the pizza and had to ask for them. Otherwise great experience! Attempted to visit Big Lou's for a New Years run in January. Called ahead to make sure they would be open; drove all the way from Austin only to find them closed. Guess you can't trust the help answering the phone! Round two, planned nowhere near a major holiday. Gathered my car club peeps in South Austin and headed to the South Side of San Antonio. Upon arrival, our party of 16 was seated in a timely manner. Solid service from start to finish; more on that later. We started with wings in three different flavors. Cue the 5 minute photo op for your social media followers; then grab 2ft long slice and get too it. Crust is thin which I think is deliberate because you're cooking such a large pie. Flavorful sauce; decent amount of cheese. I'm gonna say for the size there's a minimalist approach to the toppings. The mushrooms were actually chopped instead of sliced. When it was all said and done there was one slice left. Buddy Mike took one for the team and finished it off for the glory shot of the empty tray. Drink refills happened regularly but I'm knocking a star off for one critical reason. At no time from apps to the check...a failure to offer any condiments. It would have been nice to have some ranch and or blue cheese for the wings and pizza.

Went for lunch today. My wife's sandwich come out in a timely manner The waitress said mine would be right out. 10 minutes go by, no food, we asked for the manager. No one comes to the table. 5 more minutes, I go and talk to someone, they tell me the sandwich had to be remade twice and it was on the way. 5 more minutes still no sandwich. I go find the manager, pay for my drink and my wife's sandwich and we leave. The manager didn't offer any apology or any way to fix the problem. She didn't seem to care.

The experience is a 5 star. We ordered the 42 inch pizza quality of the pizza was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Quality was a probably a 3 star rating. Yes it was a 42 inch pizza but with 9 of us we demolished it pretty easy. So quantity at 113 dollars is a 2 star. We can go to Mario's in Kemah and if I spend a 100 dollars were bring home a pizza and a half. It was a fun time. Their menu is large. Forgot they charge you a dollar for water. It's not bottled.

Great pizza and service as we were feeding 52 students and 9 adults and they were quick! Pizza was flavorful and I had cheese and pepperoni slices.
