The words on the awning beckoned: "Burgers & Beer".
I was expecting more beer, less burgers but that was before I saw the name of the place. It's an old-school burger joint with many nods to today (Salmon Burger, Beyond Burger, etc.) but not in ambiance.
Having only a short window of time to eat and drink, three of us shared a Basic Burger ($10.95), a Blue Cheese Burger ($11.95), and beer on tap. Each burger comes with choice of fries, beans, slaw, or salad but I sampled only the fries.
Big Mouth Burgers is a welcome find in that it proves it's still possible, in 2018 San Francisco, to eat, drink, and depart full even when you have only $20. It's the opposite of fancy but it gets the job done.
Failing to fully research the menu before ordering at the counter, I missed the opportunity to swap out the standard bun for something more personal and the chance to add a cornucopia of different toppings all at no additional cost.
Keeping this simple and direct, I'll say this: These burgers aren't the bomb or the last word in burgers but they're decent and get the job done and the same thing can be said about the fries. I'd not seek out BMB but if I were in the 'hood and hankering for a burger, their's will do.
