Impressed! This is one of the best BBQ places in New England! And some of the best BBQ joints I've been too started out as a catering business. Looks like that what these guys have been doing for awhile! Now they have their own little smokehouse and a Drive Thru! (planned to be operating sometime by mid April 2020)
They have a little tiny "café bar" can fit maybe 5 people with no elbow room. 3 tiny tables for 3 people max with no elbow room. And one table fit 4 people comfortably enough. They keep their Chopped wood right outside the door utilizing every square inch they have.
Combo option spelled out "Brisket, Pork, and Chicken" Order came out really quick and I was maybe the second customer of the day. There were about 8 guys moving fast in the kitchen getting everything ready, so I was impressed and grateful that the food came out so quick.
Everything looked amazing! Brisket, Chicken, the sides, and the Pork obviously wasn't Ribs so I was disappointed for about half a second and realized how good the pulled pork looked too. Even came with some pickled cucumbers and onions, I would have eaten more of those too!
Started right away with the Brisket. I was afraid all the moisture and heat would quickly leave the meat if I left it alone for a minute. Still trying to figure out what exactly are the qualifications for great authentic brisket but I would say that this is one of the best in New England hands down. Extra tender and full of that smokey brisket flavor without using too many other ingredients. Little bit of that black pepper taste to the rub and it worked perfectly. Fatty parts melted in your mouth like Smokey butter.
Chicken was amazing. Got a Leg and a small Thigh. Super good rub to it. Flavor was the best I've ever had in a chicken. Only thing was that it almost felt like there was "extra" moisture to it because the skin was like a water balloon and when I bit into it all the juices poured out. I'm talking literally poured. Not like a little squirt, I could tip the leg at an angle and a shot glass amount of chicken grease came out. For a second I questioned it but the meat was perfect and the skin tasted amazing so I didn't stop. I feel like people that grow up on a chicken farm know exactly what this is about and it's actually what is supposed to happen.
Pulled Pork, still trying to figure out what pulled pork is supposed to be. But I think this is the closest to what Real Good Pulled Pork is supposed to be. I've seen Pulled Pork on all sides of the spectrum. Sometimes it's ripped to the point it feels like a mushy hairball, other places they just chop up a pork loin. This was right in the middle, not crazy shredded and not just diced a little so it's a bunch of chunks. Super tender and moist and had a great Smokey flavor. A very subtle BBQ taste to it, definitely cooked with at least a tiny bit of traditional sauce but didn't interfere with the natural flavor of the pork.
Combo came with 2 sides and a cornbread. Got some Pit Beans and Mac and Cheese. It was crossed off on the menu when I went but they seem to have Watermelon Salad at times. Again I'm only assuming what it could be but something tells me it aint just cubed watermelon.
Mac and Cheese I was pretty impressed by, wasn't expecting anything great. White Cheddar taste, creamy, bit of black pepper I could barely taste, white cheddar wasn't overpowering, very heavy as mac and cheese is supposed to be.
Beans were Crazy! The sauce was like a sweet mesquite, apple bourbon, and maple zing. One of the best flavors I've ever had in my mouth. I was even eating it with a fork so you would imagine all that sauce would fall through but the sauce was so infused in the beans and it was just thick enough to still be drippy and hold onto the beans too. Actually I was almost afraid that eating with a spoon might be a little too much.
Cornbread was great too. Not individually baked in paper cups or mini tins. No kernels though, I like the kernels. Not sure how to describe the texture, it's like gritty and dry but cold and sticky at the same time so it was like moist going into my mouth but for some reason it made my mouth feel super dry. This isn't a unique thing, I just can't put my finger on what other kind of cake has done that. But it wasn't a bad thing, really. The corn bread was great.
If you're a BBQ enthusiast like me I Strongly recommend this place. It's some of the best flavor I've ever had. I would recommend dining in if you can but they are tiny so try to plan accordingly. If you can't eat in then grab as much as you can to go.
