Big Smoke Taphouse & Kitchen

The most frustrating thing about our visit is the fact that nobody has told the big smoke management team that Covid conditions have been relaxed now and that hospitality and SERVICE has resumed . My wife wanted sour dough avocado and mushrooms yes a bespoke order ,( arrived as apologetic sad portions) , no chance on app so got up to find a coffee person , what’s the point of having three people at the entrance one waving their arms one asking if we have any allergies and one holding the menus and directing people traffic . Americano coffee was so strong that it had its own Facebook page , so dark that it left me needing therapy . Full English is jst that , smoky beans really !!!! Has Trump taken a boat and landed on our Kent coast but nobody told Reuters . Deep fried crispy bacon (sic) had been kept in some turbo jet kiln and so denatured that any self respecting archaeologist would have been pleased to discover this find at a dig site of your choice . We had to get up again to find someone to bring our bill as we had gone off piste , yes we are older yes we are traditional and like a bit of service , but check your socio economic groupings as to who is cash rich and prepared to spend even tip ( for good service ) . This is not our first airport rodio and other operators manage it . The operations management team and above would do well to get the flip chart out at the next monthly meeting and write the word “HOSPITALITY DISCUSS “ this is not a non contact sport.

We were greeted by Caje & served by Vanda, both professional & polite with a smile, can’t ask for more… the breakfast was served quickly & drinks orders arrived within a few minutes of ordering. Nice place to relax & to wait for the flight… the Avocado smash was tasty, added smoke salmon was good too but wish there was a little more of the dish…

The best English breakfast I have had at any airport in the UK. Really flavourful sausages, great scrambled eggs. Even mg English breakfast tea was delicious. Will definitely eat here again. I. Usually disappointed by any meals at airports but this one was great. A lovely start to ym holiday. Kathy was just lovely, attentive and friendly. Other staff all friendly and nice.

We were served by Wintana T, she was very polite and efficient, which made for a great start to our holiday, she had a very positive and bubbly aura. The food was okay, the salmon slightly overcooked. Overall it was a great experience thanks to Wintana.

As far as airport restaurants go this one is pretty accommodating. There they have live sports and we recommend the full English before setting off on holidays.

Wintana was a great server. Great food and some cocktails. Very happy with everything. It's become a tradition when we fly from Gatwick to have a bloody mary here.

After being seated and waiting over 10 minutes for a waitress, I finally ordered through their website. After another 10 minutes, the waitress came around and asked us what we wanted. When I told her I order through the app she got mad at us and took the menus we had and walked away. 5 minutes after that the two beers I order were delivered to the table.

This is always my go to llace to eat in Gatwich, whether a lovely breafast or chill dinner… I also enjoy the service, in particular this time with Oleg being my waiter. Not only was he kind and attentive but brought everything fast and efficiently. Truly a pleasure :-)
