Big Softie

I was super excited to enjoy soft serve ice cream since I hadn’t had it since the days of the ‘Mr. Softie’ ice cream truck, driving through my neighborhood. I was like a kid in a candy store. Dipped cones too, you betcha! First time trying out Big Softie. Very few vegan options. Mostly sorbet options masked as vegan options. I got the vegan vanilla swirl on a cake cone covered in chocolate sauce. I think it was oat based. Nothing beats a cake cone paired with soft serve ice cream! It wasn’t until I got half through the ice cream when I noticed a pesky gnat in my ice cream. The placement led me to believe that either it was already in the mixture, or it happened as the lady was twirling the ice cream on the cone. Ewhh!! But, mistakes happen. I was beyond turned off, and of course, my ice cream went in the trash. What a waste of money and a beautiful ice cream date. My appetite was completely shot after that.

Even on a cold day this place is great. I took advice from the person working the register and they were right- strawberry on matcha is the way to go! I was worried the golden milk flavor would be weird but it actually worked so well, I’m glad I was able to try it before it’s gone! The flavors i chose happened to be vegan which is fantastic if you’re someone who is hesitant to eat ice cream in public, if you catch my drift. Highly recommend!

Big Softie truly surprised me! We tried the Strawberry Sorbet and the Vanilla Cone with olive oil and sea salt — sounds unusual, but it was unbelievably good and packed with flavor. The toppings were everything and took it to the next level. Definitely a must-try spot!

This is one of the best vegan ice cream places I’ve ever visited. The service is welcoming and friendly, thanks to the young staff who took our orders. Our server was lovely, always smiling, and happy to converse about the ice cream. She was the one who served us our ice cream.

Love this place!! Great Matcha ice cream. Service could not be better! I look forward to trying many flavors!

Super cute unique spot in Atlanta! I really enjoyed the Matcha soft serve ice cream that I got with the toppings of honeycomb and sprinkles. The ice cream was really smooth and perfectly sweet and wasn’t overpowered with the Matcha flavor. Although, we weren’t a huge fan of the vanilla ice cream, it was just okay. There’s a small little parking lot in front and then some street parking I believe. There was an area that you could sit outside and a cool hotel/eatery next-door. The line gets pretty long after 7:30, my friend and I did enjoy our time and we would go here again to try different flavors and toppings.

I’m so glad I was able to make a trip to try these before the witch hats left for this season. I could eat this matcha soft serve every day and still want it!

If you're ever in North Highland, Big Softie is an absolute must-visit! From the moment you step onto the street, the vibe is incredible—super positive and alternative. The whole area is charming, and walking around is a delight. The shop itself is small but cozy, with a cool, laid-back feel. The staff is friendly, which adds to the welcoming atmosphere. While the shop has a limited selection of ice cream flavors, it’s more than enough because the real fun lies in choosing your toppings. My friend went for a classic vanilla cake cone, and I opted for a chocolate waffle cone with cookie crumb topping. What really surprised us was the size of the ice creams—huge! The photos don’t do them justice. We ordered the "Petit" size, and even that was massive. Honestly, we couldn't finish ours. The ice cream itself was really tasty, and the price is totally fair for the portion size. The cookie crumb topping was particularly good. I would’ve liked to add more toppings to make mine a bit more exciting, but the crumb topping was perfect as it was. The place feels super cozy, and there’s an amazing vibe around. You can sit inside at a small bar or, like us, outside at some tables owned by other nearby shops. The people around were incredibly friendly and let us enjoy our ice cream in peace. I’d definitely return to try more flavors and toppings. Highly recommend it to anyone in the area!

I was shocked that this little soft serve spot blew me away like it did. The vegan vanilla with the cookie batter shell and the streusel cornflakes were everything I was dreaming of and more. When we got there, the shop was relatively busy, but the line moved fast. I appreciated the girl working behind the counter head suggestion suggestions for what combinations would work well together. I honestly would've probably not chosen the cornflake topping, but she was dead set that it was Fire and she was right. The interior was nothing to get excited about. Nowhere to really sit either but that's OK. Lots of cute little businesses in the area you can walk to. We actually went downstairs to an artist collective for a little benefit show and it was nice to have some tasty ice cream to snack on while we watched!

Big Softie is so great for soft serve ice cream and they even have Vegan soft serve and lots of vegan-friendly toppings. The banana pudding sundae was to die for (and don't worry for you vegans out there, they have a vegan alternative for this sundae too!)

Absolutely love their soft serve! The staff is patient and friendly. The parking at this location is tight and hard to come by. Recommend parking at the Publix and walking here. They have limited flavors but ample of toppings making everyone's experience unique and customized to their liking. They also have GF and Vegan options. If you're in the area I highly recommend trying them. It is a small shop with limited seating. Be prepared to leave with your ice cream or stand in the parlor.

The Big Softie is one of those charming Highlands spots that's absolutely worth a visit. I hadn't had soft-serve in a while and wanted something truly worth the calories, and this delivered. There's free parking (first come, first serve) with the first hour free via the ParkMobile app, which is a nice bonus. The service was friendly, quick, and efficient. The place is clean and you feel like you can sit and enjoy your time. The soft-serve itself was excellent. When a place can nail vanilla, you know they know what they're doing. I'm glad I stopped in and will definitely be back.

I've lived in Atlanta for a long time and have never been here, but our friends insisted we check it out when we had dinner next door. They are lactose intolerant and love this place because it's one of the only ice cream parlors. They can get a dessert there without feeling bad. Know that you'll stand in a line, but it moves quickly. The time in the line will give you the opportunity to decide what you want on your ice cream. I selected the Thai iced tea and strawberry swirl with chocolate gel and crunchy peanuts. It was a divine combination. Who knows what I will get next time, but I am sure I will be back.

Another great place it you enjoy Matcha/Green Tea Ice Cream!! Although they have a limited number of flavors to choose, but Matcha is a must try!! And if you like crunchiness and strawberry, add the strawberry shortcake cake crumbles!! The staff is nice and helpful! The space is small, only have a few chairs, but the vibe is chill~ A very relaxing place to visit.

This second location is great! Parking is tough in their small lot (that is paid) and street parking is not easy, but if you are walking or biking, this is great as I've never been there when there has been a long line. There are only a few indoor seats and a large bar type thing outside that you can post up on to enjoy your treat. The offerings are exactly the same as their original location. I always get the vanilla swirl with crunch pearls as the topping. They are very generous with the crunch pearls, which completes the taste along with their high quality soft serve. No one does soft serve better. Can't wait for their third location to open.

First time trying big softie and it did not disappoint! The location is small but super cute. Few seating inside and outside not a lot at all. The ice cream is so good! And the customer service was great. You have to park on the street near by and walk to this location. Definitely rec

First time at this location. They are consistent across the locations. Still, yummy vegan ice cream. I got the matcha and vegan vanilla. My grandmother enjoyed the mango sorbet.

Just awesome and highly recommend strawberry hard shell if you like strawberry . I kept this short so you could go sooner!!

One of my favorites in the city has opened its second location in Poncey Highland! This space feels much spacious than the OG Summerhill location but offers the same stuff. This time around, I ordered a vegan vanilla and pumpkin swirl with cornflake streusel, which of course hit the spot. Service is always speedy and efficient. Enjoy this place if you're in the area - you won't regret it!

Every flavor and topping is delicious! My go-to is the matcha soft serve in a waffle cone with corn flake streusel. The matcha is a perfect, balanced flavor, not too strong & overpowering but still rich and sweet! The waffle cones are a must too. I also really enjoy the thai tea flavor when they have it. This location has the sweetest and most helpful staff ever. They are so patient and efficient with customers, despite the crazy long lines! The lines also move pretty quick.

Came here for ice cream. Soft ice cream with custom toppings. Service was good and no real indoor seating here so have to eat outside. About $6 for an ice cream with a topping. Ice cream though was very good as were the toppings. You come here for the ice cream not the ambiance!

Completely obsessed with Big Softie rain or shine and so glad they opened this location closer to me! My order is usually a petite matcha and vanilla swirl with cornflake streusel and it is simply perfect. They usually kill it with their seasonal flavors too! This month for AAPI, they have Thai tea and mango sorbet and it is delicious! Unfortunately, you are not able to sample any flavors since it is soft serve, but I have yet to get anything I haven't liked. Service is always friendly and prompt. The shop is very small with just a few counter seats, it is more a take to go and walk around the neighborhood type of place. They have very few parking spaces out front and it faces a busy street. I always park at the block before, in the parking lot behind Plaza theater, which has free 15 min parking after you scan the sign and reasonable rates if you are staying longer.

Saw this online and had to try it. The service was awesome and they helped me pick a delicious flavor. Matcha. Can't wait to come back.

So excited Big Softie is now open on North Highland! This soft-serve shop has been on my list, and I'm glad they've opened a location closer to me. I went right at opening on a Saturday, and there was already a line out the door, which I'm sure is because they're still new and everyone's hyped. Their menu is fairly simple--chocolate and vanilla soft serve (+ a vegan vanilla option) with a seasonal rotating flavor. I tried the vanilla swirl with passion fruit hard shell and strawberry shortcake crumbles--literally so good! The employees were super friendly and took their time making sure each order was perfect. The shop was cute, clean, and inviting. Can't wait to go back!

I enjoyed my small cup of vanilla ice cream. 4 flavors and 4 topping to choose from. I liked the passion fruit sauce. Service was on point. Clean place, nothing different than other ice cream parlors. No tables or room to sit. 2 medium cups + 1 large $28. That's a lot. Would I go back? Probably not.

The service was so bad I thought it was a joke. The gentleman with the ponytail working was the worst person ever. He was so rude and told us the place was closed (5 minutes before) and to immediately leave after we got our ice cream. He was so miserable from the get go and seriously ruined the experience. He wouldn't give us gummy worm toppings because that was for the Sunday only, and wouldn't let me pay for them or make an exception. I thought he was joking, and he said he would give me 2 gummy worms, but that's it. Horrendous service. The owners should be ashamed of themselves for hiring such a miserable person to work there.

Great ice cream!! I got the small vanilla with a passion fruit shell, strawberry shortcake crumble and cornflake crunch! The small was a perfect size for me. Will definitely be back!

The actual soft serve is fine. Not great but not bad. The pricing is insane. It was over $12 for a regular cup (pre-tip). Just not even close to worth it. Other better options in Inman or ViHi close by

I LOVE Big Softie and I frequent it very often. However I do have to say, prices here have increased quite a bit over the past two years. That's understandable given everything has increased in price, but Big Softie has considerably decreased their portion sizes. If I'm paying $11+ for a soft serve, hard shell, and topping, I would really hope that I'm not getting a skinny swirl and just a couple of strands of hard shell. I tried to give them a chance, saying maybe it was just a one time thing, but their portion sizes have gotten WAY smaller. Their hard shell has nearly doubled in price in the past couple of years and I feel like I'm getting less than half of what I got before. It's a shame because the strawberry hard shell is to die for!! It's disappointing that the images they post on instagram look nothing like the portions I've been getting for the hefty price.

The ice cream has no flavor - which made me think I had COVID, so I came home and had a bite of Van Leeuwen's... no COVID. Both the quality and ratio of ingredients are off. It's a very mid-level ice cream, ESPECIALLY for $30. And Hardshells are dipped, not dispensed from a ketchup squeeze bottle. This whole operation feels like a handful of college kids trying it out with Sam's Club ingredients and YouTube knowledge.

There are truly not many things as good as classic soft serve on a late summer day, and Big Softie's newest location in a cute storefront in Poncey Highland delivers just that. We stopped in on a Sunday evening for a late weekend treat, and were delighted by their concise but spot-on menu of offerings. She had the chocolate with chocolate cookie crumble, a chocolate-dream, while I had the vanilla with strawberry shortcake crumble, resembling that classic childhood ice cream bar we all know and love. Simple and sweet, Big Softie is a new neighborhood fave.

It was closed today, I have been to the other Atlanta location and I really enjoy the overall vibe. When this one opens up again, it will be great. I have only been to it a few times when it has been closed the last two weeks or so and one time it was open but the line to get ice cream as very long and my group didn't want to wait on it but it was out the door to the street the normal with Big Softie on a warm Summer day. I am excited to see how this location will do and it will be a great addition to the neighborhood.

The policy of not allowing samples is off putting. I don't mind spending $10 on a single cone of ice cream. When I asked the employee if I could sample the olive oil ice cream, I was told no, due to the fact that the ice cream is soft serve. That made no sense. As a teen, I worked in a frozen yogurt shop. Guess what? Frozen yogurt is soft serve, isn't it? We gave out free samples. In terms of customer service, improvement is needed.

Came here after dinner one evening and i got the vanilla ice cream with chocolate cookie crumble and chocolate sauce which tasted so delicious! The ice cream was velvety and smooth and melts in your mouth so quickly and the toppings had great flavor as well! No wait when we got there and service was really quick. Limited seating and parking outside.
