"The vibe: You’re here for the gorgeous setting, not the serviceable rooms. Top amenities: Day passes to California State Parks, seasonal outdoor pool, al fresco dining, camp store. Best for: Immersing yourself in the redwoods. What's nearby: Pfeiffer Falls and the Big Sur River Gorge’s crystal clear swimming holes. You couldn’t ask for a more central locale, set within Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, a redwood-filled park laced by miles of trails. While the renovated rooms are pleasant enough—make sure yours includes a fireplace—they feel more akin to duplex apartments with clusters grouped around a swimming pool that fills with families on warm days. Yet, steps from your room, you’ll discover lush redwood trails, 60-foot Pfeiffer Falls, a campfire center with seasonal programming, and the beautiful Big Sur River. There’s also an all-day restaurant, outdoor wine and beer bar, and a handy camping store stocked with gifts and provisions."

We booked a long room for 4 nights during the Thanksgiving week. We were nervous as we read mixed reviews but it was all good at the end The room is simple and clean, the beds are super comfortable. Our room has an old style gas heater, but it kept the room warm. There is a small balcony facing the redwood trees. The only place that has internet is the pool lounge. But we are here for relaxation so it is not an issue. There is a very nice fireplace in the main reception area with game tables. We had drinks by the fire place and it was not too crowded. We visited most scenic spots around the Big Sur and the redwood forest here is definitely the most spectacular and emits a nice aroma. It was a great experience.

Google
Great location, but our room was not very clean and they forgot to provide dishwashing supplies and toilet paper—plus we had to wait for our room. We also needed maintenance to come out and unclog the toilet, which did not flush well even upon arrival. However, they were very responsive to requests.

The location is remote and very quiet. Perfect if that's your goal. Which ours was. We drove up from LA. About a 4/5 hr drive with traffic. Couldn't check in at 4 pm check in time the room wasn't ready. Waited till 5:30 pm I wasn't the only one. That happened to at least 4 other guests. I got an apology from the front desk. place seemed to be short staffed. Stayed for 4 nights I didn't get any room service in my room not even an extra trash bag so I can empty it myself. I was gone most days enjoying Big Sur and everything it has to offer. Tried lunch at the restaurant and the food was delicious. The service from Jacob was friendly and attentive despite being the only server and host. Took care of multiple tables and kept his smile and composure. Overall the stay was decent. Those few small things could be worked on, nothing major.

I loved being able to wake up and walk straight to the nearby trails. You can't beat the location and the accommodations. W also enjoyed a delicious meal after a long day hiking in the rain which was the perfect way to conclude our first vacation of the year.

This is a great place to take the family away from technology and enjoy the scenery, nature, and each other. This place reminds me of the movie, "The Great Outdoors", relaxing and scenic. The room we rented has a fire place with complimentary fire wood. We saw wild turkeys and deer. The views on the way were amazing. Take a couple board games to enjoy quality time. There is only wifi in parts of the lodge and not in the rooms and no t.v.

Google
This place was lovely and we really enjoyed a two-day stay here. The room was simple, but very comfortable, and there was great hiking available steps away from the Lodge. There was also a sweet family of Black-tailed Colombian deer who came around to graze in the evenings outside our room. Staff were very friendly and accommodating as well and we loved the onsite restaurant, Homestead. Our single issue is that the heater in the room was quite noisy - in fact, when it went on, it sounded like someone was beating on it with a hammer! Other than that, the place exceeded my expectations.

Google
This was my 5th time staying at the lodge. I brought my girlfriend for her first visit. Never considered staying anywhere else. The lodge does not disappoint. It's the perfect base camp for a stay in Big Sur. We will return next year. If you are considering making a reservation, just do it. They offer 30-40% discounts a few times a year. If you see one, jump on it.

Yelp
This spot was a nifty little stop for food, restroom, gifts/souvenirs about an hour south of Monterey. It's literally off the scenic Pacific Coast Highway - turn at Pfeiffer Big Sur Road - and follow the signs to the lodge. The good and the bad I guess is that it's a shared lot - for both hotel guests and visitors - I actually had to circle the lot a few times when I realized even the farthest out spots were taken. Connected to the lodge is a bit of a cafe (I didn't eat anything here since I had a full lunch before leaving Monterey), gift shop (picked up lots of unique souvenirs here), and a rustic-like lounge area - complete with a Tic-Tac-Toe tabletop game. Prices for food, souvenirs were reasonable considering the tourist-heavy area. Cell reception was a bit bleak - but that's understandable, considering where you are. Nearby are one of the few gas stations in the area - so make sure to top off your tank before continuing on your adventure!

Yelp
Very neglected outdated rooms. All the caulking and trims were rotten in bathroom Wall heater is so loud nobody could sleep, every 20 minutes it would have this real loud bang extremely loud and woke me up every 20 minutes.!!! Upon entry noticed a big black widow in the bathroom window. My oldest son had to take the fold out couch, which was miserable super thin mattress. He said he could fill every spring I didn't take enough pictures, but it was bad. Luckily we walked in to check out the dinner menu and they told us we were closing in one hour. I believe there is two fireplaces, but none were lit. Nothing to make it even somewhat inviting.!? No communication before we arrived which we booked for two nights they were closed the first night as they had no power. So we would've had nowhere else to eat as there is nowhere else to eat for miles!!! I have to say the staff was not that friendly very helpful! Every time I walked in the building, they looked like they were annoyed that we were even there. We were the only ones in the building for dinner, which is always scary.!!!! Dinner was great. My wife had the salmon salad salmon was cooked perfect We were the only ones in the whole building as they were having a staff holiday party that night.

Yelp
I liked the property/lodge overall. Restaurant, coffee shop and gift shop were great. There are some trails nearby the lobby, plenty of parking, and good overall location next to other trails and restaurants. I'd say that's about where it ends. I thought the lodge was very overpriced for what you got. Very basic cabin, didn't feel very homey. Lipstick stain on one of the mugs made me question the cleanliness of everything else. Bed was not uncomfortable, but also not comfortable. I didn't sleep too well. Not entirely sure the heater in our unit worked, although it may have been something I just did wrong. Ultimately what turned me off was the pungent smell of marijuana that seeped through the walls of our cabin overnight, and woke me up from my sleep. I get that marijuana is legal in California, but I shouldn't have to smell it within the confines of the cabin I paid nearly $500 a night to sleep in. My neighbors must have been smoking either inside their cabin or outside on the porch. The smell makes me super nauseous and I felt like it was in my face. I woke up exhausted and cranky. Smoking should not be allowed on this property but apparently it is and it can get into your bedroom. There is zero wifi on this property with the exception of the conference center. No service in lobby or hotel rooms. I didn't really care for that. No TV in cabins either. I also felt like the staff generally were not very friendly. Young man at check in and a middle aged man at the coffee shop were a bit surley. I also did not care for the late check in time of 4 pm. I barely got to "enjoy" being in the cabin. So -- overall I'd say this is a great place to stop in and visit, but not stay. Maybe if it was cheaper, that would take some of the sting off all of the negatives. I would not stay here again.

Yelp
Worst hotel stay & no help from Reception. Room was as cold as the outside. Wall heater was so old it was dust coming out. We were told to use the plug in heater. We asked to switch rooms. Denied. Hotel was almost empty. No Stars

Laurie S.

Yelp
Upon arrival Maria warmly welcomed us. Which was great as the temperature was NOT warm! Jacoby kindly volunteered to start the fire as I wasn't having much success. In my eternal search for real fires and hospitality I was very pleased. You will be too. Oh, and give Jacoby a raise!

Mike S.

Yelp
I'm a little surprised by the overall rating. It's about the expectations. This is Big Sur. So you will get the wilderness and nature experience. The rooms are small but feel like cabins. The main lodge is in a different section (parking can be challenging depending on time of day). But, the Lodge is also walking distance from the Trail. We did the nearby trail in the rain (using some plastic garbage bags to cover us). Each cabin/room has its own parking. Pets are also allowed and trash bins/bags are available. I love Big Sur and would come back to this property for more nature Hiking.

Yelp
Check in is 4pm. I lost signal after the Bixby bridge but since it's just all on CA 1, I just look for the signs. Also my gps still showing where I am so I was able to see where it was. Free pass for the 3 parks. Going to the cabin was near by but it was super narrow! One car at a time going in and out. Place was spacious and clean. Sad I don't have signal or WiFi. I was too far from their WiFi to reach. I have to go near the conference center to get WiFi. Pfeiffer Beach is near by. It's super narrow road too. Their restaurant at the lodge is good.

Yelp
A very well maintained state park. So much history here. We stayed in a cabin that felt like a hotel. Drove through the campsites, which all looked clean and spacious. And some right on the river. There is a pool, charming restaurant/cafe, lounge, and gift shop. There is an array of hiking trails. Some great for families, others more challenging. Our favorite was the Big Sur River Gorge trail where you walk through the river and over boulders to get to the crystal clear swimming hole. Five stars for all of the staff. Jacob was a standout, who went above and beyond. Well worth booking Pfeiffer State Park for your next getaway.

Yelp
My husband and I thought we'd only be staying one night in Big Sur, which unfortunately meant that the nice place (Glen Oaks) we stayed last time didn't show up in our search and we ended up at Big Sur Lodge instead. The first room we stayed at would've been ok for an overpriced $150/night, but since it was twice that, it felt like much more of a dingy POS from the start. We weren't surprised by lack of WiFi in the room, but there isn't even WiFi in the lodge, which ended up being hugely inconvenient because of Nicole at the front desk not wanting to do her job. We were hoping to stay an extra night because of extenuating circumstances and Nicole told us nothing was available until Sunday (4 days later), so we had to pack up all of our stuff (which was much more than usual for a Big Sur trip because we were traveling from Japan with a stop in LA) and go elsewhere to use WiFi to find somewhere to stay. Turns out the only place with availability was Big Sur Lodge and we were able to book the exact same kind of room we had been at the night before. When we checked in, another girl had to come help us because Nicole was busy ignoring customers and looking at Facebook. The second room was somehow even worse than the first. The blinds didn't close at all in the bathroom and there was a bunch of stuff left on the counter from lightbulb maintenance. There was also no hand soap. The blinds in the main room didn't close all the way because of an air conditioning unit connected to the window. Can't recommend avoiding this place enough when there are actually nice places to stay with friendly staff in the area (though I will say the girl we interacted with at the Big Sur Lodge gift shop was very kind!).

Yelp
We had an unfortunate experience with poor customer service at the Big Sur Lodge in August 2024, with truly surprising results. We realized the first night of our stay that the heat in the room wasn't working. It's pretty chilly in Big Sur at night, even in August, so that was unpleasant. The next day, we received a text from the management asking how our stay was going, and I reported the problem. The clerk told me they would send someone to check on it. I texted again when we got back to the hotel that afternoon, after I realized that no one had checked the heater. No response. I reported it again when we checked out the next morning, and was assured that the manager would contact us to discuss it. No contact. I responded to a survey, describing the problem, and asking again to be contacted. No contact. I wrote a letter to the manager, explaining the problem, and requesting contact. No response. Wow. Could you describe worse customer service? There were a couple of other minor complaints (for example, there was supposed to be bottled water in the room; there wasn't any), but since I couldn't get them to respond to the first complaint about the heat I don't hold out much hope that they'll respond about any other complaints. What's interesting is that Big Sur took a big hit during and after the pandemic (so much so, that we received various solicitations from a number of the local hotels). You would think that a hotel in a remote location that suffered so much as a result of the pandemic would be looking to make their customer's stays at least tolerable, if not comfortable. I actually really like this hotel so I am truly sad that their customer service was poor enough to warrant this review. Back to the Big Sur River Inn for us.

Yelp
Great location, good food available, and great hikes and views right there. Friendly staff and fun gift shop.

Pat T.

Yelp
So comfy, nice people, good food. Check in was easy, the cabins were close to the lodge. We didn't use the pool but people were enjoying it. Nice hiking trails and outdoor areas. The people in the gift shop were so helpful and funny! Loved it there!

Renee L.

Yelp
Pros Your cabin is in the redwoods The lodge restaurant is beautiful with a lovely window that looks out into the redwoods, the gift shop is nice. The beds are very comfy with nice linens and comfy pillows of four on each bed. They have a refrigerator, fireplace and coffee maker. It is quiet and the maid service is great. Free beer flight per night. Nice furniture in room. Cons Cabin is in need of paint. No one likes looking at scuffed old moldy base boards in the bathroom where you have to view it daily. No WiFi uggg not even at the restaurant. No microwave. The restaurant is very expensive, way over priced and not great. My husband went in to partake of the beer flight and he was told that it's their choice what beer you will drink. There was nothing about this our first night and he questioned saying there is nothing about it on the ticket. He can't drink IPA's the server got mad and was rude. We had a two room cabin for three nights. The second room was freezing. They need a second heater in there. I brought a heating pad that saved me or we would have had to leave. With these things fixed we would have given a high score but it can ruin a trip to find these things. Fernwood has a chef quality restaurant, eat there! Still high cost but not as much as the lodge and it's well worth it!

Patricia B.

Yelp
Pros Comfy beds Hikes nearby Passes to Parks Breakfast was excellent at The Lodge. Service could have been better. Cons No WIFI, No Cell Service, No Phone in cabin Shower essentials needed refilled

Mimi J.

Yelp
Great place to stay! Not high end but very clean. Beds are comfortable and staff is helpful.

Hannah F.

Yelp
Accommodating, nice staff, quiet place. They were very generous with the firewood for our fireplace and a free bottle of wine. Partner and I were able to get the Valentines deal. Our room was very clean and cozy. No wifi but that was the point- having a cabin like place and "in the woods" kind of feel. Maybe you all are just going at the wrong time. We went in February while it's not hot.

Marissa N.

Yelp
We had rented a number of rooms for a family wedding. I get the want to leave technology behind, respect it and rejoice in it. However it would be nice to be able to call the main lodge or family you're staying with on a land line. It's glamping in my head. The pool was on the smaller side. We needed to ask for sheets, pillows and blankets for the pull out.

M B.

Yelp
Rustic and dated, which might be unacceptable for some. As someone who has stayed multiple locations in Big Sur, I thought it was perfect (Rustic and 70s-era vibe is what Big Sur is all about!). Cabins are roomy and quiet. Room amenities are minimal, but they warn you up front. Unbeatable location (compare prices to other lodging in the area if you think this place is over-priced). Pool was warm and everything was clean during my 2-night stay. Decks off each cabin are a nice touch.

Nancy C.

Yelp
Recently came here for a weekend get-a-away and I LOVED it! Was it pricey? Absolutely. Would I come here again? YES! I got to the lodge almost 4 hours before my room was ready but the staff let me check in early and gave me a pass to get into all the state parks, so that I could kill some time before my room was ready. Very sweet of her and she also gave us recommendations for local hikes. The cabin itself was so roomy! Everything was clean and there was wood provided for the fire place. The bed was also surprisingly comfortable! We didn't have any wifi but that wasn't a problem, we didn't really need it. Spent the night lighting the fireplace ( it was our first time making one, so that was fun). The location of the lodge is really what sold it for us. Everything was nearby and super convenient to us! We were able to go to Andrew Molera state park for a 8 mile hike and be back in our room within 10 minutes of finishing it. Changed into our bathing suits and in less than 20 minutes we were able to get into the river in Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park to relax our sore muscles. We wouldn't have been able to do that had we stayed elsewhere. The beds were also SUPER comfortable, which was a big plus. I can't say any thing about the food at the lodge since we brought all of our food. But the mini fridge kept our perishables from going bad and the ice machine was always full which helped since I used it to fill up our water bladder to keep our water cold while hiking. Overall the price was well worth it! We saved time since we didn't have to drive far anywhere, the room was clean, the views were amazing, the fresh fire wood was nice, working ice machine, and getting access to all 3 state parks was wonderful!

Bella J.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing experience. Breathtaking view, freshest air, great staff, comfortable room and good food! 1. Reservation: required. We got an insanely expensive lodge because of not planning ahead and that was the only cabin available. 2. Cabins are spacious, truly very large! In my case, our cabin could have easily housed 10 people, just cause I can, I slept or laid on every bed just to try them all. The cabin was too large for us, but better than being crammed, right? Shower takes a while to warm up, but still good. 3. Wildlife: You will hear birds singing, some other animals, I don't even know what they are make noise. There was a HUGE spider as big as my open palm in the shower. Panicked and screamed, but still managed to put it in the champagne bucket and threw it out. No spider was harmed in this story!!! What a thrill that was. I worried that my neighboring cabins thought I was either having an insanely satiating adult time or being killed. Guess what? Cabins are too far from each other for anyone to hear whatever was happening! The whole time the spider comes close to us or moves around, I was screaming while trying to capture it. This place gave me a forever memory.. involving a spider of all things.. good thing I have no arachnophobia. In short, this place will give you a new memory for sure. Don't get me started with the most beautiful scenery in all of California. 4. Food: delicious.

Yelp
I almost didn't book this place because of the mixed reviews. What a mistake that would have been. I rented the Queen room with the fireplace and refrigerator and it was fabulous - spacious and clean, and the location can't be beat. I also found the staff to be kind, informative and responsive, especially Caleb.

Johanna R.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place and will definitely be back, but, this stay was definitely hit and miss. The layout and location of the cottage was fantastic. The cottage had 2 queen beds and was more like a one bedroom apartment without a kitchen. It was roomy and comfortable. The cottages don't have a telephone or Wi-Fi and there's no cell service in the area. Which is ok but, the Lodge was closed when we got there and I had no way to call the after hours number for help when we ran into trouble. We arrived to find all the windows in the cottage open and a moldy smell. When I tried closing the windows all of the locks were broken. I ended up putting the fireplace tools in the window to secure them so we could sleep. The cottage had a fireplace and a deck with patio chairs. The pillows were super cozy, the mattress not as much. The bathroom vanity is nice but, the bathroom itself turned out to be the source of the mold. The closet was full of stuff, an Iron, ironing board, fan extra blankets, etc. There was also a hairdryer. The cottages don't have TV's but, they do have cards and board games which my daughter and I played. There was also a mini fridge (ours had open items from the last guest in it). Brunch at the Lodge the next day was delicious and all of the staff were super helpful.

Chris M.

Yelp
We recently stayed at the Big Sur Lodge for two nights in late November and found it to be quite cozy. It's certainly more rustic than many nearby resorts and lodging, but that's part of the charm. PROs: - Easy access to park amenities and trails - Plenty of firewood and fire starters each night - The Lodge store and restaurant offer all the basic creature comforts you might need - Fridge in the room CONs: - You're probably going to hear your neighbors - Amenities aren't spartan, but they aren't fancy by any means - If you decide to pay for the WiFi, good luck connecting to it It's certainly a place I'd stay again at this price point.

Candice J.

Yelp
Great location with access to hiking trails and free access to 3 local state parks. This property is cottage/cabin style, which adds to the ambiance of being among the redwoods. The place has been around for a while, so the buildings are old, but they're well-maintained. Staff is friendly. There's a pool, on-site gift shop, restaurant, and coffee shop. My only gripe is that the hours for the restaurant and coffee shop aren't posted. They vary by season and perhaps day of the week. Ask so you don't get caught off guard. We'll be back!!!

Jacky C.

Yelp
Booked this place along the Big Sur as we wanted to see everything the Big Sur had to offer and not rush through everything. We were coming from LA and headed towards SF, so this was the perfect overnight stay. For the price and location, this was a good deal. Since the lodge is located right in front of the Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park entrance, you're literally in the middle of no where. With that said, don't expect to have any cell service. Also within the lodges there are no technologies in any of the rooms. No wifi (unless you're in the main cabin or community space, but spotty at best), no TV, no electronic alarm clocks, literally you and nature. Oh yeah, no A/C, but they have a heater. They do supply a huge fan for you to plug into an outlet. Although it was just the two of us, the smallest cabin they had consisted of two beds. During our stay, I noticed the wood floors were not clean as I like to walk around barefoot and the bottom of my feet would be black. We were also not very careful with opening the backdoor to our personal patio, as we let in mosquitoes and other flying critters, so be careful with that. Waking up the next day was super pleasant by nature's alarm clock, Turkey calls at 5AM.

Ola ..

Yelp
Extremely overpriced for what you get. Expect your cabin to look like a motel 6. No wifi, TV, or phone which is ok since you're in the woods. There was hair on the bathroom wall, shower, and even a towel from the previous guest. Gross. Did they even clean? The coffee is in a tea bag, so you have to steep it. Again, ok since you're in the woods, I get it. But the creamer packets were so old that the adhesive to keep it closed had completely deteriorated. The packets were opened and the creamer was all clumped and not usable. Again, gross. I really enjoy coffee in the morning so this was a big disappointment. This forces you to get coffee at the lodge. Only one guy working, long line, and way overpriced. Then let's get to the restaurant. I have never experienced such service - or lack there of. Admittedly there was a large party of mostly kids in the back. But we sat at the bar for at least 30 min waiting to get served. We were never acknowledged. When I asked the server to please take our order, he essentially waved me off. So we figured maybe the service would be better if we grabbed a table inside. Wrong. The restaurant was not even half full. Even though there were about 7 people running around, apparently only one of them could actually take our order, get our drinks, and get our food. It was absolutely absurd. We would wave one person over, and they would essentially just point to one guy and say "sorry gotta ask this guy". When we did finally get our food, it was nothing special. Very average and obviously overpriced. The only positive is the location and there is at least one nice short trail head by the lodge leading you to a waterfall. Is this enough to stay here? Not for me.

Robert T.

Yelp
Very convenient location, nice basic lodging, staff very friendly. Great gift shop and nice outside bar area. Can't beat the hiking trails right outside your cabins.

Van V.

Yelp
We decided to camp in Big Sur last minute for a M-W in October. Could not get a campsite. Decided to still go and rent a room. Expensive. $300 plus a night even with a promotion. Room was comfortable.Basic. Loved firewood each day to build a fire every night. Deck is shabby. Deck view was poor. But overall area of the lodge grounds is lovely. Gorgeous redwoods. We loved the Valley View hike. Location was perfect to explore all of Big Sur. Loved the spectacular nearby beaches at the state parks. Loved leaving lodge area each evening to drive 15 minutes south for roadside pull off and spectacular sunsets. We bought most of our food at a market in Cambria. Had a cooler and small fridge. Big Sur is expensive. We do recommend nearby Big Sur Bakery for out of this world pastries.

Yelp
Definitely a place to stay to get away. I was happy there are no TVs, no AC (but fans), no phones or alarm clocks. Definitely a way to unplug, especially when cell service is limited. The rooms were nice (although shifting something awful), and it was extremely quiet, considering the place was sold out. The lodge was cute, but I was sad that due to COVID I couldn't sit inside by the fire. The staff was more than friendly, and it was a nice stay. I loved that you could walk to the lodge and trails from your cabin. The only things I would change are- they need more local beer at the café (there was 1 local- the rest were like Bud Light, Corona...meh). And the bathrooms were very outdated. Could use a remodel and a good scrubbing (our blinds were bent, so you could see in and out of the bathroom and there was no way to cover it with a towel). Overall I loved the quietness of it. I had a very great stay- the location is awesome, family-friendly, and even saw some "wild" turkeys. I say wild lightly, as you can tell people feed them as they come right up! P.S. The Thanksgiving dinner they offered was phenomenal! Thank you again for offering it!

Norm H.

Yelp
Had a wonderful stay at the Big Sur Lodge. We had a large dinner party on there patio and Paul the manager provided amazing service. From the food and quality of everything can't recommend enough. Paul went out of his way to make sure we were accommodated. Our was large and on the rustic side but had all the amenities we needed with easy access to everything Big Sur has to offer. Will be back again!

Andy C.

Yelp
We were taken in last night when the north and south roads were closed, leaving us stranded in Big Sur with thousands of others. This hotel was incredible. They took us in even though they didn't have rooms available and let us stay in the lobby or go to the conference center for shelter. We opted to sleep on the floor in the conference center. All employees were so kind and kept everyone calm. Garrett especially was taking care of everyone as we slept all over the hotel lobby with dogs and babies and scared families. He was able to get us saline solution for our contacts so that we wouldn't be blind when evacuating the next day via car. He also booked the next few nights for us and told us that if we get evacuated, they will cancel the room with no charge. We called them when we got evacuated to let them know and the first thing they said was "we're so glad you're safe". They had to deal with thousands of scared people and yet they truly cared about random strangers and they also quickly said they will refund me right away. All of the employees were so caring while we were there, it was actually very touching. Although it was an eventful Easter wknd sleeping on the floor, we look forward to coming back here when the roads reopen to stay in this hotel and actually get to enjoy it next time. The grounds are gorgeous and we actually felt so at home here and calm, even given the circumstances. We pray you all are safe and that we are able to come stay with you again as soon as we can. Thank you for everything!!

Yelp
Had not been anywhere since June of last year and needed a little getaway. Decided here as we love Pfeiffer State park and they did not require a 2 night minimum on the weekend!! Pros: room very clean and spacious, mini fridge, nice bathroom products, coffee maker with local coffees, and a pretty comfortable bed. Heater heated well.Felt COVID safe. Cons: no chairs for sitting outside on deck, only one creamer for coffee, couch not that comfortable and door had a good size gap letting cold air in. We enjoyed our stay and we will return. We also appreciated the locals discount and a park pass!!

Yelp
There are some reviews on here talking about slow internet or the cafe food isn't good, but I think you are missing the point! This is somewhere to come to disconnect and enjoy the surroundings! The front desk was overly accommodating because I had some car sickness and got us a room a bit early. We are city folk so my husband messed up the fire in the room the first time and after just one call a guy came and brought us another fire starter and was super helpful! I'm so glad the internet didn't work and there wasn't a tv! Enjoy your time people! Thank you to the Lodge team, we will be back!!!

Yelp
A mixed review ... pros: easily accessible hiking trails (we did the Pfeiffer Falls and Valley View trails in the late afternoon) and wood and matches provided for fireplace use; cons: hole in shower was patched with tape and over-priced useless third-party internet service functioned at 1/20th (yes, we did the calculation!) of its advertised speed. Cabin was somewhat run-down and smelled rather musty. Overall, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Yelp
So this an update from my previous review. You'll notice the 5 stars. Oh and it'll be a gooooood reason it is. Moving on. This review is for room 9. Which has a fireplace and two queen beds with two rooms and a living room area. They make you feel VERY welcomed here. The staff is absolutely OUTSTANDING. The rooms are updated, very clean and very well taken care of. I will also be writing a review on their restaurant. But this one is about the lodge/rooms. Upon walking up to the door of the room I noticed the deck was well maintained. Walking into the room it took me by surprise right away that it was VERY clean and well maintained. The room had a coffee maker, one sink, no bathtub but a great shower. The shower works well, the water is hot and the pressure of the water is great. The fireplace was clean and ready for the next guests. The beds were all fresh. I took the blankets off and inspected them to make sure there was no bed bugs or anything else. They were clean. The floors were vacuumed. Even under the beds had no dust or anything. Oddly I felt like it was TO nice if that's such a thing. But in Big Sur you're sort of use to the rustic cabin in the woods type of feel. And I'm 100% fine with that. I come here to be apart of nature and enjoy the scenery, the sound of the trees with the wind and the stream. It also might be the fact that we got very lucky on how not busy it was. There was absolutely 0 people staying anywhere near us. And I do believe that helped A LOT with how quiet it was and how nice our stay was. Had it been different with a full house of people I don't think I would of had such a good time. Overall though I will say this. The staff here has gotten MUCH better. The kindness and professionalism displayed by them is at the out most highest regard I can say from what it previously was. There was 3 staff members I remember by name in particular. Ashley. Which was a server in the restaurant that I will speak about in my updated review for the restaurant separate from this. Don't worry, everything about this server was good. Ernesto. He seems to take care of the rooms, maintenance, trash and well overall... a little bit of everything. He had an excellent attitude towards us as guests and a good vibe. His wife also works here to and she's a wonderful person as well. Would I recommend staying here? YES BUT I would 100% ask how busy it'll be. if you want the best experience here make sure it isn't busy. Or less busy for that matter.

Yelp
Hate the fact that they charge $37 processing cancellation fee. I don't think they're really clear in their cancellation policy.

Yelp
Came for several nights during the weekday. Convenient lodge location in the middle of several places to visit to the north and south. Has trails embedded in the lodge with a restaurant and shop near the cabins. The cabin was roomy with a fireplace (they provide the wood) and a pretty wide deck outside to sip your drink of choice (coffee and tea provided). The beds were stiff but comfortable. Unit was clean with clean towels and all. You definitely are paying for the location that it is in the middle of Pfeiffer Park in which you qualify to go to other parks with entry fee.

Yelp
We recently had an elopement at the Big Sur Lodge. We honestly couldn't have asked for a better experience! From booking to finalizing everything, Paul Amend made it very easy for us! We had about 20 people in attendance and everyone agreed the Big Sur Lodge did an amazing job. Oh and our dogs were allowed to come too, so yay to being pet friendly! Thank you for making our special day absolutely awesome!

Yelp
I had a great time at big sur lodge! We stayed in a double queen room with a fire place! It was awesome. We had a log of fire wood each day, tea & coffee to enjoy on our porch and plenty of space! We had a nice & clean shower with lots of towels. The complimentary soaps they give you smell SOOO good! The lady at the desk (she was older and working at night) was so friendly & fun! The only reason I take away a star is because we arrived at 11:55 for lunch but they didn't open the kitchen back up till 12 and the guy at the cafe was really rude to us and didn't really let us know until we had to "bother" him enough to ask. Overall a good experience! Nice, quiet & beautiful!

Yelp
It felt good to be in the park, to be so neat the big trees, to be able to hike from our room. And the room was fine with a comfortable bed, a skylight to see the stars and birds flying by, a little back deck. I was a happy camper! And the restaurant was really good too. The only unfortunate thing was that the conditioner/soap dispensers in the shower were empty, so that was disappointing.

Yelp
They tout no TV, telephone, cell service or air conditioning as amenities and they provide each cabin with game of some sort (Parchisi, Jenga, etc.). They offer wifi for $20 a day extra but it doesn't actually work well enough to be usable. Our room was dirty, with mold growing in shower. Bugs everywhere. We were there during a heat wave which I know the lodge has no control over but they didn't have enough fans on hand and the ones they had were disgustingly dirty. It was 90 degrees in our room. Gnats, mosquitos, spiders and dirt were a constant in our room. They don't service the rooms during your stay so you better not get your towel dirty and if you use a cup you hand wash it yourself. We had to change rooms due to the mold in first room but the next room was no better. The cabins can sleep 8 but you can only have 1 car and any extra cars have to park down by the pool in the limited parking there. I spoke to others during shuttle rides to events we were all attending and one couple had also had to change rooms and the next couple had checked out within 10 minutes of being in their room. The lodge required an event be held there in order to book a block of rooms for our family who were all attending a wedding in the area. They charged $4000 for patio usage and closed the café to accommodate the event (so other guests had no where to eat). The bartender and food were over $2K. Absolutely miserable event with two trays of food to snack on (meat was bologna). Flies were crawling all over the food. I saw two servers bring trays by but only one had enough left to actually make it to where we standing, so my dinner consisted of two tomatoes and two cubes of cheese (Caprese salad on skewers). A beautiful blue bird had a feast on one of the stationary trays (where all the flies were crawling). He'd fly onto tray, grab some cheese and fly away so at least we has some entertainment while sweltering in the heat. The bar only served beer and dry wine (which I don't care for either) so I had water only as a choice. One the good side, the surrounds are beautiful and the staff was super apologetic and nice. The manager apologized repeatedly for how miserable the place is, all the while with 3 giant gnats swarming within an inch of her face. I did learn the staff all lives onsite for about $100 a month rent plus free food. The view out my window was of staff cabins, each of which had satellite dishes for their televisions and one had a nice Mercedes parked out front. I highly recommend never staying here. If they kept the rooms clean and if they had a phone so you could at least call other members of your party in their rooms instead of having to hike to their room it would have been better. It's a long hike to the pool to get ice and uphill at least one way. They do have pretty scenery at least.

Yelp
This place is adorable. We called to see if there were rooms available and were able to get a better price and a room with a king bed. I would definitely call with some questions because it did seem that there were certain cabins that had shared rooms but I'm not sure if you shared with a Stranger party. We came out here for our anniversary and I will say that it did not disappoint. It is conveniently located between multiple places and how cool is it to be staying in a forest. The trail to Pfeiffer falls Also was Ok. It was a nice walk but the waterfall is pretty small. The cool thing is that they have stairs and a bridge leading up to it and a little seating area at the waterfall to relax. We also took the river trail and went down to an area that had what looked like steppingstones to cross the river. I tried to get halfway over but the water was getting too high for my shoes. The restaurant is great! Don't listen to reviews who say that the food is terrible. Everything in Big Sur is quite expensive and in the general area we did spend about $100 per meal which is a little crazy but Everything we had was great. Please do not bother with trying to pay for Wi-Fi. It does not work. It is 12.95 for 24 hours but once you connect it disconnects right away. The first time I tried it the token that you need to login went away and I went to the front desk and the young lady there gladly refunded me because I couldn't login and lost the key code. It is convenient that they have a gift shop a restaurant and even camping areas, you don't have to stay in the cabin. They also had turkeys walking around that were gobbling in the morning and I thought that was pretty cool. It is a great place to disconnect and I would love to stay here again and explore more of the park and Big Sur

Yelp
Our 1st official stay for a few nights at The Lodge , I must say it exceeded our expectations. They where kind enough to change our room to a 2 bedroom room ( since our son is with us ) . The both rooms large ,nice eating area in room & bathroom good size , and we found the hidden fridge the next am LOL .. for my hubby he was missing his TV ( but iPad substituted ) overall great room , nice porch to sit and enjoy the scenery, esp the stars at night . The natural neighbors even payed us a visit , wild Turkey ( walks the grounds , stayed down near our cabin most of the day Chasing cars ..LOL) A few deer came out the woods to check us out also . Turkey sat behind our car after we packed up to leave , guess she wanted us to stay another night . See ya next time !

Yelp
Def read the majority of reviews here. You are 100% paying for location and not accommodations and so should weigh the necessity of staying actually in the park vs near it at an Abnb. Pros: it was clean and in the park. Cons: pics look nice but function is lacking. Our experience with the staff was great but the room was mediocre at best. We booked a lodge cabin with kitchen because we need to be able to cook our own food for health/medical reasons. When we arrived, there was nothing to put in the oven for baking (no sheet pan, glass / metal pan, etc). We went to the front desk to ask for something and the gal who helped us did not seemed surprised by our request. She was super accommodating and grabbed us something from the kitchen chef but it seemed weird they would advertise and give you a kitchen and then not provide cooking utilities. When we made it back to the room we found out the oven didn't work. That's right. The oven didn't work. *shrug* Probably why there was nothing to bake on. Otherwise, the place is just super quirky. Not deal breakers, but given the amount of $$ you're spending to stay here, it's annoying. They gave us only decaf coffee pods, and the pods are twice as big as what the coffee makers can use so they are useless. No other coffee makers, so you are stuck with the pods or paying for espresso from the lodge. The stove top worked, but pretty much had only one setting: hottttttt (even for a gas stove this was bad, but remember, no oven!). The pot lids that had knobs weren't properly attached and had obviously been rigged, though most didn't have knobs at all. No wine opener. We were fortunate to get free wifi in our cabin due to proximity to the conference center, but it was super slow (like can't load a webpage slow). No complaints per se, but we wish we'd been better prepared to be offline during our stay.

Yelp
Meh. I haven't read the other reviews but the rating seems correct. Since you're on the California coast and in Big She, you can charge outrageous prices and not deliver a whole lot. We had to stay here as part of a wedding block and had a two queen bed room with a fireplace. When we got in, it smelled like fire and like someone had used the flue incorrectly or something. It also looked like there was black smoot from the fire ON the actual fireplace - which shouldn't happen! We also saw this present in photos on their website..i suppose if you're not used to making a fire then it can pose some challenges.. Everything was fine and the bed and linens seemed clean, but the bathroom was gross and not clean. You can tell a lot about a place from their towels, and these were like old used pool towels being upcycled. Mine had THREE hairs on it that I didn't find (because who inspects a towel before you use it?) Until I was literally drying off in the shower. It was verrrrry off putting and gross. The door frame was dirty and there was also some hair on the floor of the bathroom. I'm usually pretty paranoid and detail oriented when it comes to cleanliness and thankfully the linens we're clean. Overall, the space was nice and the fireplace was cool with the couch and comfy chair. I definitely would not pay for this again and just stay at a campsite or drive 30 miles north to Monterey.

Yelp
We had stayed at the Lodge previously in 2011 and loved the chalet style cabins. So when we planned a return visit to Big Sur, we knew where we wanted to stay. It saddens me that I have to give a lower review rating than I would have six years ago. Especially since they've recently completed a renovation. While the cabins are still wonderful, the main lodge and dining options are nothing less than in the minus range. Jessica at the front desk was the only, and I mean ONLY, competent and pleasant person I directly dealt with during our stay. She deserves a raise and a promotion. Big Sur Lodge is lucky to have her. Everyone else needs a serious course in 1. customer service and 2. how to do their jobs. My request for the same cabin we had previously was honored, which I appreciated. Upon entering, our porch light was out and a slat was missing from one of the window blinds, compromising privacy. We waited until the next morning to report it. Jessica was on duty as she had been at check-in, wrote down what I told her was wrong, and it was remedied by our return that night. I credit Jessica with seeing to it. The restaurant should not be open if it is not being run properly... and it is far from being run properly. The staff who are there are obviously not happy, and let it be known by their demeanor and comments. I got better service once they realized I was worth a good tip, honestly. Speaking of dining for guests, I have never stayed at such a high nightly rate when breakfast wasn't included. Even the five star in London I stayed at was comparable in cost and included breakfast. This seems to be the norm for Big Sur however, so I won't fault the Lodge. It's just a frustrating observation. The bar wasn't open even though it was supposed to be. The restaurant closed early for lunch leaving people with no notice. As a matter of fact, the placard outside said lunch was available. I guess it meant the grab and go items available in the gift shop, though people weren't being directed there either. My husband wanted ice cream one afternoon and was told they were all out. The girl at the counter failed to tell him there is an ice cream bar assortment sold in the gift shop. Maybe she didn't know. She should have. The point is she blatantly didn't care. Wifi is available for a charge. We found we got sufficient service through our provider while onsite and in our cabin. It was slow, but it worked. We love the cabins and the hikes onsite. You are paying for the surroundings in large part, and I understand that. I hope they work out the kinks, unfortunately I won't be back to find out.

Yelp
Reference - We stayed in room 53, $300/night for two nights in early April. Pros: 1. Beautiful surroundings 2. You receive free entrance to 3 out of the 4 parks. Cons: 1. No free wifi service and the paying wifi is so slow it is hard to search or plan ahead. 2. The radiator makes LOUD clink, clank, and metal banging sounds all night long. 2. The entire room smells moldy and worse in the bathroom. 3. The bathroom fan is very loud yet doesn't function as an exhaust fan. 3. No lounge chairs for people to sit except the one small desk chair. 4. They don't clean the room unless staying there for over three nights. They don't take out the trash nor provide fresh towels daily. 5. The walls are very thin. You can hear people snoring from next door. 6. No TV, no phone in the room. 7. Skip the Lodge restaurant, overpriced and tasteless.

Yelp
We did a spontaneous Big Sur extended weekend in April, and when we looked online for available hotels in the area, Big Sur Lodge popped up. The price was right, and it's right in the heart of the area, so we decided to give it a try. Glad we did! We're a family of four, so the cabins with the extra bedroom were nice. Cabins are roomy with a good sized bathroom and shower, and all the amenities you would need. The entire cabin was clean, and the beds were comfortable. They give you a free bundle of firewood each day so you can light a fire. It was really nice to have on chilly nights after long hikes. My kids and I enjoyed using the heated pool during the day as well. We were awoken each day by the local wild turkeys, which roam about the cabins during the day. Some deer were also grazing outside our cabin in the morning. There are several trail heads that are accessible from the cabins so you don't have to drive to them, which is nice. The lodge office, restaurant and store are very convenient, and have everything and anything you might need. The staff was very friendly and helpful too. We didn't eat at the restaurant, but we did get coffee and ice cream after we hiked the Buzzard's Roost trail. PROS: Prices are very fair for the area Convenient, designated parking right in front of each cabin Clean cabins Almost instant hot water for showers Free firewood Friendly Staff CONS: Wold be nice to have towels out at the pool They advertise that they have a poolside bar. It must only be open during the Summer, because there was none.

Yelp
Family of 4, two adults, two kids... We stayed for 3 nights in a family cottage w king bed and two twins. Property is dated but charming. Staff are friendly. Food in the cafe is good... Only things the room is lacking are some maintenance updates; the heater was VERY LOUD and kept us up all night. Beds and pillows were comfy tho... Walls are very thin so we could hear our neighbors, very clearly. Showerhead was leaking and hardly sprayed, exhaust fan vent was super dirty. Room was nicely laid out and furniture was in good shape. Overall we enjoyed our stay but left tired due to not sleeping. I would suggest adding a microwave so families can reheat food and larger bath towels, they were soooo small, it was hard to dry off after a shower. We brought a folding kids table and chairs so our littles had somewhere to sit (glad we did!). Note, wifi and cell service are very spotty, download movies ahead of time for kiddos to decompress. Great location, you can hike right from the property. Pay attention to the cafe hours, they don't always have hot food. Little store and giftshop was nice too.
